MEETING MINUTES HIGHLIGHTS
Positive feedback from the Community Workforce Summit. May lead to targeted spin-off events such as lunch n learns at the Chamber, Smart Business Center or other location to address various workforce development topics Several job fairs in the area in the coming weeks. Branson Job Fair date set for May 2 at the Branson Convention Center in partnership with the City of Branson and MO Job Center. OnPoint Business Cards available to promote the OnPoint site to job seekers & employers
MEMBER UPDATES BLALA – Lodging Association Convention on April 11 at the Branson Convention Center. Laurie offered TCP the opportunity to present at one of the 45-minute breakout sessions at the Convention. MO Job Center (Megan) – Mini Job Fairs at the MJC in Branson the first two weeks in March, including a prep class each Monday prior to the job fairs on those Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. (Dennis) – Excited about the Branson Job Fair and in connecting construction industry with Taney County Career Days. Hollister – New website is live with link to OnPoint. Have found several candidates through the site. Brokate Janitorial – Will be hiring soon for open positions in March. Titanic Museum – Hiring for a couple of positions but generally have been able to retain previous employees. Launched a new web page for online applications. Express Employment – Crazy placement effort in January, now trying to combat the ebb and flow of employee retention. Mentioned that communication with employees is vital to keeping them on board. Cox Health – Collaboration with CofO Nursing program – hiring students between their Jr and Sr years as externs. Great success in that program. Proves that working with schools works. Jobs for Life – In week 6 of 9 in the JFL Class. Have a committed group of 11 students which is higher than average. Needing employer volunteers for mock interviews and other programming this week. OTC WFD – Skill-Up Missouri Program in full swing – folks on food stamps may qualify for free training through OTC, including technical education. Can go to any OTC location or Missouri Job Center to sign up. New CAN program beginning in May through the Ozarks Promise Grant. Interviewing a registered apprenticeship specialist who will also assist in developing career pathways. Greg Slavik – Opening studio @ Starlight Theater as a hub for country music and entertainment.
