Forsyth Chamber enjoys historical presentation, plans time capsule

By Cindy Thomas, Staff Writer Members and guests of the Forsyth Area Chamber of Commerce enjoyed a historical presentation by the White River Historical Society at the monthly luncheon on Tuesday, August 10, coinciding with bicentennial celebrations across Missouri.

Luncheon attendees were greeted by 155th District Missouri Congressman Travis Smith, Eastern District Taney County Commissioner Sheila Wyatt, and Presiding Commissioner Mike Scofield.

Devin Fisher of White River Valley Electric Cooperative also spoke regarding the cooperative’s upcoming annual meeting. A common theme was the progress made

over the years as Missourians work together to address needs, such as rural electricity access in the 1930s and broadband internet access now. The elected officials pledged continued accessibility and attention to needs voiced by their constituents.

The feature presentation on the role of Forsyth and Taney County in state history was given by Leslie Wyman, who recently retired as managing director of the White River Valley Historical Society.

She also introduced the current director, Trish Trimble.

The “Billy Bus Kickoff Tour” started where Long announced his candidacy for Congress, at PFI Western Store in Springfield, MO. In addition, Long released his announcement video in his campaign for U.S. Senate.

Throughout the campaign, Congressman Long intends to meet with Missourians in all 114 counties and the City of St. Louis. At each stop, Long will speak about his campaign priorities and his plans to put Missourians first as their senator. “I fought alongside President Trump to preserve our American values and put America first. Liberty Lectures present ‘Show-Me MO’ Submitted to Branson Globe A small but highly-engaged audience gathered at Hughes Brothers Theatre on Saturday, August 7, as Liberty Lectures presented “Show-Me MO,” an educational presentation by state constitutional researcher and scholar Tom Martz.

Governmental operations are personal to Martz, who has one son who is a firefighter and another who is a police officer. In addition to studying constitution-

al law, Martz has a long history of legislative review.

“It’s sad when so many don’t understand how our government functions and that we’re not a democracy; we’re a republic,” said Martz in a brief interview with Joshua Heston of State of the Ozarks. “I’ve made it my mission for the last 15 or 20 years to try to educate people on things they probably missed as they went through public education.”

tation, Martz reminded attendees of the checks and balances the Missouri Constitution, as well as the U.S. Constitution, are intended to provided. Families enjoy FBC’s Back-to-School Bash

By Cindy Thomas, Staff Writer Area families enjoyed an evening of fun, food and back-toschool resources at the annual Back-to-School Bash hosted by Branson First Baptist Church on Sunday evening, August 8, at the Branson RecPlex Park.

In addition to a hot dog cookout and free swim sessions, each schoolaged child received a new backpack with school supplies. There were also inflatables, face painting and plenty of games to enjoy.

A highlight was the performance by stunt motorcyclist Brad Bennett and his team from Real Encounter Ministries. Along with Bennett’s motorcycle stunts, team members Tanner Watson and Louie Cortese kept kids and adults alike holding their breath for aerial bike gymnastics with names like “double

tail whip” and “turn-down” and “double back flip.” Local resident Johnathan Boan volunteered to lie flat on the pavement as Bennett spun around him for a “motorcycle haircut” and then hopped over him with just inches to spare. “It was fun!” Boan commented afterward.

As part of the presentation, Bennett, a stuntman for 21 years and a regular at the FBC event,

shared his faith testimony, saying he “realized I was going to spend eternity somewhere,” referencing Romans 3:23, John 3:16, and Romans 6:23. “We’re Christ-followers first,” he said of himself and his team, “and stunts are simply the way he has provided for us to tell people about him.”

Attendees could also see a Branson fire truck with its ladder extended and visit vendor tables including the Salvation Army, Taney County Health Department, Options Pregnancy Clinic, HeadStart, MOPS, and more for resources. At another booth, families received a bag of household necessities. FBC Branson staff expressed thanks to the many area business and nonprofit partners that donated or were present to help make the event a success.

ing August 31, 2021, as “Shoji, Dorothy and Christina Tabuchi Day.” Christina said, “On behalf of dad, mom and me, we are truly honored at this recognition from the City of Branson. It means a lot to all three of us.”

The proclamation declares August 31, 1921 as Shoji, Dorothy and Christina Tabuchi Day for, among other things, “their contributions in the establishment of the Branson holiday celebrations, their support for music education in the local public schools, and the iconic entertainment the Tabuchi family has provided over the years.

It recognizes that Shoji began performing “in Branson at the beginning of one of the city’s most successful eras and became widely known as the ‘King of Branson’ ” and that he was a 2020 inductee to the National Fiddler Hall of Fame.

Shoji was inducted into the National Fiddler Hall of Fame (NFHOF) on November 20, 2020. At that time he said, “What an honor; it’s humbling to join the ranks of Roy Acuff and the other fiddling greats in the National Fiddler Hall of Fame.” Tabuchi and his fellow 2020 inductees Scott Joss, Dale Morris and Don Rich were part of the gala induction concert on Saturday, November 20, at the Mabee Center in Tulsa. The concert headlined Grammy Award recipient

The National Fiddler Hall of Fame, based in Tulsa, is dedicated to honoring individuals for their contributions to the art of fiddling, preserving, educating and promoting its historical and social significance. Past National Fiddler Hall of Fame inductees include Roy Acuff, Charlie Daniels, Howdy Forrester, Johnny Gimble and Bob Wills, among many others.

Shoji has been entertaining people since about 1965, when he was a college student at Momoyama

Gakuin Univesity in Izumi, Osaka, Japan, and a sister university of St. Andrews University. He said, “I got interested in fiddling when Mr. Roy Acuff came to Japan and did a concert that included “Listen to the Mockingbird” played on the fiddle. It was his music and encouragement that inspired me to come to the United States, and he was instrumental in having me play on the Grand Ole Opry in 1968.”

With his induction to the Fiddler Hall of Fame, Shoji has gone full circle and joins “Mr. Roy Acuff” the man who planted the fiddling seed in the heart of the man who now has joined him in the Fiddler Hall of Fame.

By Pat Lamb Getting off to a bad start in anything is not a good thing, but it is especially important that children get a good start at the beginning of each school year. The start of the year sets the pattern of behavior for the remainder of the school year and possibly for years to come.

Having a set pattern removes uncertainty and much confusion as children practice firm rules in the home. As those rules become habits, parents are more at ease, and

there is less worry on the part of both the parents and the children.

Before school starts in the fall, parents need to sit down with children and pray with them that they will do their best. Undue pressure should not be put on any child to make straight “A’s.” Rather, children should be encouraged to do the best they can do with the abilities God has given them. II Timothy 2:15 is a good verse to use to impress children to do their best in school. If a child can understand that it is God who is to be pleased more than self, teachers, or parents, studying becomes more important.

This gives purpose and the proper attitude toward learning. The prayer instills a sense of seriousness about the importance of behavior and effort.

Children need routine. They need the understanding that their behavior is acceptable, and they

need to know that their parents are concerned with their well-being.

Why not use the cell phone— most older children have one—to help them remember their routine?

Our youngest son programs the cell phone of his sons to remind them of what they are to do and when they are to do it. They can then text him when the chores are accomplished.

A good routine for children each school night might include the following: 1) Homework is done at a certain time and place; then it is laid out in a special spot so the child will not have to hunt for it the next morning.

For the People: A city update from Branson Mayor Larry Milton Hello Friends, First, I want to thank Alderman Bill Skains from Ward 2 for filling in for me during the board of aldermen meeting on July 27 while I was out of town. He kept the trains running on time, and I appreciate his willingness to serve.

I want to make everyone aware of a significant change to easing our liquor license ordinance that passed a first reading at our last board of aldermen meeting.

This month the City will be accepting applications to fill two

seats for the TCED. Keep an eye out for the press release if you are interested in serving on this board.

The Human Resource committee (HR) has had two meetings recently addressing a revision to the City employee pay scale and benefits package. I would encourage you to attend the HR committee meetings if you have input on these matters. Our government is at its best when our citizens are involved with the process.

As your mayor, I am continu-

ing to pursue actions regarding panhandling, extended stay, and homeless issues facing Branson.

These are “big rocks” to move, but we continue to have meetings and healthy discussions. I will keep you updated and involved as these conversations progress.

I am pleased to see that our vehicle counts have remained steady throughout July. Our high periods were July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 which were all Fridays, and averaged 346,551 ve-

Habakkuk: Our responsibility to God’s Word

2) Anything that is to be taken to school with the homework is placed along with the homework in a designated spot to prevent the scurrying around that often occurs in many homes as children frantically try to get ready to go to school.

3) Clothes to be worn the next day are laid out and ready to be put on.

4) Any chores in the home that the child is to do the next day are explained so that the child is not surprised with added activities that may interrupt his/her plans.

Habakkuk 1:1 with my online devotional group.

Habakkuk is one of the minor prophets, so named because of length, not importance.

Depending on the translation used, the verse says “This is the prophecy that Habakkuk the prophet received,” or the “message” or the “oracle.” But some versions say, “This is the burden that Habakkuk the prophet received.”

Prophecy, message, oracle, all sound mysterious and anticipatory. Burden? Sounds like work.

Habakkuk lived and wrote during a time when God’s chosen people were acting like anything but. Their behavior went from complacent to downright disobedient, mingling with pagan cultures and reducing God to a set of rules they didn’t follow. The Northern Kingdom

(Israel) had already fallen to Assyria, and Habakkuk was tasked with hearing from God that the dreaded Babylonians would be the agent of judgment on the remaining tribes (Judah).

No wonder that was a burden! The prophet knew the message wouldn’t be wildly popular. And he had questions: How long would this last? What about God’s promises? And the Babylonians? Their behavior was more atrocious than Judah’s, and yet God would allow them to conquer? What should Habakkuk say to his fellow Israelites?

Actually, that doesn’t sound unlike current circumstances. We live in a fallen world.

I don’t believe God purposely dumped a pandemic causing innocent and good people to die, and I do believe things like earthquakes affect everyone re-

Last, but not least, August 10, 2021, marked the 200th anniversary of our great state. The nickname of Missouri as “The Show Me State” is applicable here in Branson as we are “showing you” what a government focused on the people looks like. We are your public servants.

When these things are taken care of, one of the parents checks in on the child at bedtime to be available to hear questions or comments from the child before hearing the prayers of the younger children.

Older children may want to say prayers in private.

When the listed items are done, the child can go to bed at ease knowing all is ready for the next day. That child knows that the right thing has been done and will have a sense of accomplishment. Both the children and the parents will rest better knowing that all is organized.

When children wake up in the morning and their clothes are ready for them, they don’t have the turmoil in their minds to start the day wondering what to wear. They don’t have to worry about their homework because they know where it is. After a good breakfast, one or both parents can give each child a big hug and kiss before he/ she walks out the door along with a word of advice such as, “Learn all you can learn!” or “No matter what happens today, I will still love you tonight!” With a final, “I love you!” the child is on the way to a good day at school.

Our nation is increasingly secular. Even some churches compromise with behaviors the Bible clearly forbids. For Christ-followers, knowing the Word of God and wondering how to communicate it can indeed feel like a burden. Do we remain silent and “tolerant” and not rock the boat? How do we navigate the intersection of faith and patriotism? Should we speak up to people we love about things that will eternally separate them from God? How long will Christians have to put up with ridicule and censorship, or in some places, out-

right persecution?

In the New Testament, apostles Paul and Peter encourage Christians to be ready to answer when asked the reason for their faith. Both wrote during challenging times for the early church. And both were likely familiar with Habakkuk, as was Jesus.

In ch. 2, v. 1, Habakkuk presents his questions to God but asks himself, “What will I answer when I am corrected?”

He accepts that people more wicked than Israel will be used to accomplish God’s purposes.

He determines to convey the message, popular or not. We don’t know for certain what happened to Habakkuk in the end, but in ch. 3 v. 17–19, even in sorrow, wickedness, and lack of provision, we see him determined to cling to and rejoice in the goodness of God.

Seitz urges governor to call session to address vaccine passports, mandates Submitted to Branson Globe “The recent news coming out that private businesses are, or are planning to, require proof of COVID-19 vaccinations to enter their establishment is an affront to American liberties. That is in addition to news that certain employers requiring COVID-19 vaccines as a condition of employment.” Seitz added, “It is unconscionable that businesses would be allowed to discriminate against employees and patrons based on their medical status or their religious beliefs.”

Last session, Seitz introduced legislation in the form of an amendment to HB 37 to attack this issue by not allowing any “Missouri government entity… to do business with any entity that requires vaccine passports, vaccine passes or other standardized documentation for the purpose of certifying an individual’s

COVID-19 vaccination status to a third party.” The underlying legislation was not passed during regular session.

Seitz said “I believe that if the legislature were given the opportunity to focus on these specific issues, we could pass legislation that would prevent these abuses and protect our citizen’s God-given freedoms. It is our duty as elected officials to confront such ideas as they arise, and it is time for us to rise to the challenge,” adding that the legislature must confront tyranny wherever it exists, be that in government or the private sector. Individual liberty and personal freedom must be protected.

Seitz concluded the letter with a request that the governor call the legislature back into an extraordinary session to address these “grave threats to the liberties of all Missourians.”

Tanco Firearms to hold grand reopening with new location, owner

By K.D. Michaels, Staff Writer Tanco Firearms in Branson West will celebrate a grand reopening next week in a new location and with a new owner.

“The opening of the new location allows us to attract new customers that weren’t aware we were in Tanco Lumber,” explained the company’s new owner Tom Phelps. Tanco Firearms was located inside the Tanco Lumber facility for just over a year.

The new, larger shop opened July 20 in the Shoppes at Branson West.

“We are seeing a lot of new faces, especially on Tuesdays, with being next to El Lago,” said Phelps. “I think this loca-

tion is a great fit for not only us, but the entire community.”

ground in 1951 with the construction of Bull Shoals Dam. Wyman said the Historical Society has agreements with the Corps of Engineers and MoDOT regarding any construction and improvements.

For example, prior to construction of the current roundabout at Highways 160 and 76, archaeologists uncovered a brick fragment from the 1890 courthouse. Wyman also described the impact of the Civil War, as control shifted back and forth until Union forces finally

burned much of the area to prevent use by Confederate troops. She briefly mentioned the colorful personal and political history of Roger Brooke Taney, for whom the county is named.

Prompted by pictures of Forsyth after the town was moved, some attendees reminisced about memories of the drive-in movie theater and various businesses. It was pointed out that the county’s “hanging tree” was located where McDonald’s restaurant now stands.

Other photos showed the Spanish-style judicial center, to which a second story was added to create the current building. Several photos showed the “new Forsyth” of the 1950s compared to “now Forsyth.”

A Neil Diamond Tribute shocks fans and tourists with introduction of band Submitted to Brasnon Globe After a successful two-year national tour, A Neil Diamond Tribute has returned home to Branson, MO. Twelve-time Branson Show Award Winner and Diamond Look and Sound alike, Keith Allynn is shocking fans and guests with the introduction of his 10-piece Double Diamond Show band. “This group of musicians is all incredible in their own right, and I’m honored that they chose to be part of A Neil Diamond Tribute,” says Keith Allynn.

In 2009, A Neil Diamond Tribute was born inside the Branson Mall, located on 76 adjacent to Walmart. Allynn built a 109-seat venue with a friend and sold out his first performance. The dream began.

After outgrowing the venue, the show moved to the Branson Star, followed by the Jim Stafford Theater. When Jim Staf-

ford sold his theater, Allynn’s company, The Diamond Image Inc., decided to run their own theater in historic downtown Branson in the completely renovated Historic Owen Theater.

In 2015, movie producer and director Steve Tatone, visited the theater and fell in love with Allynn’s tribute. Allynn was immediately selected to be featured in the rockumentary: “Diamond Mountain,” due to the uniqueness of his tribute.

What sets this tribute apart from others is that Allynn tells the story of Neil Diamond’s life through Diamond’s own songs, while interweaving his own comedic journey from a top 10 Elvis Tribute artist to Neil Diamond, all for the love of a woman. Allynn said, “I wanted to create more of a production and a third person tribute as opposed to pretending to be Neil. There is only one Neil Diamond, and I

wanted to share some of his stories with his fans.”

As the show grew so did the opportunities. “So many leads were being generated at the theater, we chose to hit the road and tour full-time for the next two years,” says Debi Diamond, VP of The Diamond Image Inc. Selling out shows in venues with 1,000-plus seats, Allynn’s vision became clearer.

Over the past several years, Allynn continues his success with 12 awards for his tribute to date. Though he started as a solo act, Allynn had a vision to grow the production for both his and Neil Diamond’s fans; 2021 is the year that vision becomes reality. The Double Diamond Show Band started with five genius musicians and has expanded into a 10-piece all-star performance band, including four percussionists and three brass players. The band

members are music director and drummer, Tim Pope; percussionist, James McCall; Diana Lynn and Adrianna Fine; pianist, Terry Laird; lead guitar, Bogie Bohinc; bass guitar, Robert Terry; and brass section, Jay Diversa, Bill Reeder and Carl Hose.

“Our musicians are so amazing we dedicate a unique personal introduction to each player as we bring them on stage,” Allynn said. “It’s the first time

I’ve known this to be done, but the audience deserves to know who they are from the onset.”

Raeanne Zurn, Director of Life Homes, has known Pratt for 10 years.

“Dylan came to live with us when he was 15,” said Zurn. “I have seen Dylan grow from a teenager to a wonderful young adult. He works part-time as a cashier at our coffee shop, Coffee Creations. He is also an usher for the All Hands on Deck Show at the Dutton Theater. He spends most of his free time working on his many talents, either in his room or at the Branson Regional Arts Council, and now for the last 14 months, working on his variety show. He is also a great friend and role model to his housemates. His housemates see the independence that he has gained by displaying responsible behavior allowing him to go out in the community and do all of these things that he loves without supervision.”

When asked how he felt about doing this special show, Pratt responded, “It is a dream come true!

I am excited and nervous at the same time.”

Pratt, who started performing at the age of five, noted that the show will showcase “all of my talents, which includes singing, dancing, comedy, magic and much more.

My father, who performed for 37 years with Mel Tillis, will be in the show. Also Terry Wayne Sanders will make a small appearance. My dancers are from Sonshine Dance here in Branson. Also, an opening number by my friends and housemates.”

Jody Madaras is responsible for making Pratt’s dream a reality.

Madaras, originally from Ohio, is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in musical theater. He moved to New York City where he enjoyed a career of directing and performing. A concert pianist, Madaras not only performed in numerous top Broadway productions, but also has a

number of television credits to his name, most notably his stints on the CBS daytime drama “As the World Turns.” Locally, Madaras is known as the mastermind behind the popular “All Hands On Deck” show, which he created and produced.

“I met Dylan last fall when I was directing a production of the Odd Couple down at the Owen Theater,” said Madaras. “Dylan came in to audition for the role of Speed. It’s a funny character in the comedy. As the evening went on with auditions and callbacks, I realized Dylan had memorized the entire role. He knew every line, and he knew the cue lines even.

That was pretty unique. Of course, I cast him in the role of Speed, and he did marvelous in the role.”

It was during a rehearsal for The Odd Couple that Dylan approached Madaras about another venture.

Said Madaras, “Dylan pulled me aside and said ‘Jody, I know you produce and direct and write.

Veterans recognized with Quilts of Honor

By K.D. Michaels, Staff Writer A group of women gathered recently in a Reeds Spring restaurant for a special presentation.

The women are local members of the national group Quilts of Honor.

“Our mission is to give honor to our veterans,” explained Betty Thomas, a Quilts of Honor volunteer. “A group of about 15 women help make quilts and present them to our veterans. Quilts of Honor is a national organization. The quilts are Hugs of Gratitude for their service, sacrifice and unselfish giving so that we can have our freedoms.”

Kathy Bandy, president of the local Quilts of Honor group added, “Since our inception in 2000, we have given out over 775 quilts.

Our goal is to reach the 800 mark this year.”

Ten beautiful quilts, all featuring patriotic colors of red, white and blue were given to appre-

ciative veterans at a recent presentation at the Mid-town Cafe in Reeds Spring. It was the sixth such presentation held at the cafe, which was packed with veterans, their families and spectators.

Dennis Meyer of Branson West was one of the recipients of a Quilt of Honor. Said Meyer: “I was in Vietnam. I served from 1970 to 1972. It was so bad when I came home that I didn’t tell anyone I had been in Vietnam for more than seven years. But now that I’m here in Missouri, I really feel like I’ve gotten a welcome home.”

David Varner of Reeds Spring was among the recipients. Varner served in the Air Force from 1973 to 1977 then worked with the Department of Defense from 1982 until 2011.

“In the sad times we are in, it’s nice that people recognize us for the good,” said Varner. “This is deeply appreciated. Here, they

never forget our veterans.”

When asked why he regularly turns his small diner into a site for the Quilts of Honor presentations, Mid-town Cafe owner Jeff Barnhart explained, “I never served, and I regret that all the time. This is my way of giving back a little bit to those who were less selfish than me.”

Orion Jean is only 10 years old, but after winning a student kindness contest in 2020, he’s caught the generosity bug: The number

of books he’s currently hoping to pool in donations for other kids in Texas? Half a million.

Keeter Center celebrates Missouri bicentennial with ice cream

By Cindy Thomas, Staff Writer Local residents and tourists alike enjoyed a stop at the Keeter Center on the College of the Ozarks campus on Tuesday afternoon, August 10, as the College Creamery ice cream shop, located in the Keeter Center since 2014, celebrated Missouri’s Bicentennial with an ice cream social featuring $2 scoops of its Nettie Marie’s Homemade Ice

Cream.

A quick glance online showed that many of Tuesday’s bicentennial celebrations across the state involved ice cream socials. That wasn’t just coincidence or even simply due to the hot weather; the ice cream cone became the state’s official dessert on August 28, 2008. The 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair was the birthplace of the treat, now

a staple at many community events and the state fair.

Several ice cream shops and companies around the state created new specialty flavors for the bicentennial, and the College Creamery was one of them. Bicentennial Berry, a tasty combination of Nettie Marie’s vanilla bean custard and the college’s student-made red, white, and blueberry fruit spread packed with strawber-

ries and blueberries, was unveiled on Tuesday.

Benders offers next generation collision repair in the Branson area

By K.D. Michaels, Staff Writer Brad Anderson is known to the community as “Body Man Brad.”

Anderson owns and operates a popular auto body shop in the Branson area.

“Benders Body Shop was incorporated in 2015,” explained Anderson. “We took over an existing business in Reeds Spring back in 2015 and moved to Branson in 2017. It was Tin Bender Body Shop for 30 years. It was my father’s business, Norman Anderson, and we took it over and changed the name from Tin Benders to Benders Body Shop.

We called it ‘Next Generation Collision Repair’ because we wanted people to know that we work on the newer stuff, not just older vehicles. My father had kind of a specialty with restoration type cars and people would go to my father to have their Model A’s and classic cars worked on.”

Anderson continued. “Next generation was supposed to keep that theme in mind that we were going to work on the newer vehicles. We have that state-of-the-art equipment to work on all those cars today that are just so high tech.

We wanted to separate ourselves from the old type of body shop that didn’t even have a bake cycle in their paint booth. So in 2017, we moved here and took over the old Eagle Eye Automotive. We acquired a paint booth with a bake cycle, and we got some scanning tools and some calibration equipment. The ‘Next Generation Collision Repair’ is also a reference to me being the son of a body man.”

When thinking of an auto body shop, traditionally you think of accident repair or insurance claims.

But, that’s not always the case at Benders.

“About two thirds of what we do is customer pay repairs, where

they are paying out of their pocket,” Anderson noted. “It could be rust repairs or restoration style work, repainting, so it’s not always accident related.”

Brad noted that he has repainted or restored a wide variety of vehicles. “We’ve done wave runners and golf carts. Right now we’re working on a 2015 Acadia that’s going to be converted into a rainbow trout. So the finish is going to be multi-colored with rainbow glitter to kind of give that look of rainbow trout scales,” said Brad.

“I’ve done two cars for the Celebrity Car Museum. They were from “The Fast and the Furious” series.

We do neat projects. We do a lot of bedliners and rust repairs, a lot of things that other shops actually don’t work on.”

When he opened Benders, Anderson made the rounds to the other area body shops.

“I went and approached other

body shops in town and introduced myself, and to this day we get referrals from other body shops for customers,” Anderson said. “You know, sometimes they just don’t want to spend $5,000 to fix their car. It’s not like we use duct tape and zip ties, but we do have alternatives to meet budgets for people.

People will come here sometimes because they just need the car to operate so they can get to work.

Other body shops will pass on that kind of a job.”

According to Brad, owning an auto body shop was not in his plans.

“I was the least likely, out of my brothers, to be a body man,” Anderson explained. “I didn’t have any interest in doing auto body stuff. But, I think one of the reasons I’m so attracted to this restoration type of work is because of my relationship with Christ and my desire to minister to people. I

think it’s funny that I’m in the restoration business because I think sometimes people need to have some restoration, too. I get a kick out of just meeting people where they’re at.”

Brad noted that he met his wife purely by accident.

“She literally had her vehicle towed to our shop,” Anderson remembered. “I have six children.

We have his, hers and ours. Ours are four and six. Hers is 13, and mine are 13, 19 and 20. The older three live in Idaho. Hers we share and have part of the week. The two youngest keep us pretty occupied.

They go to Trinity Christian Academy, and my wife is a daycare worker there. It’s a neat organization.”

ing with Dylan is very interesting.

I think I learn as much from Dylan as he is learning from me. But the bottom line is Dylan is an amazing performer in the sense that he can do a variety of things very, very well.

When I went through all of his talents and kind of researched what he had in his actor’s tool kit, it was easy to put together a show. So working with him is really great fun. He is just a great young man, and I’m very proud of all of his work.”

Pratt’s show will raise money for two special organizations—the nonprofit Coffee Creations, a local coffee house that serves delicious coffee and specialty drinks, and provides jobs for many with special needs, and the recently formed Theatre for America.

“During the Covid year, I decided to create my own nonprofit professional theater company that will be based here in Branson,” said Madaras. “It is called Theatre for America. I’m very excited about it. The mission is very simple. Theatre for America aspires to create diverse and civic minded theatrical and visual and educational experiences. We

aim to inspire artists and teachers and students and audiences within our Branson community and throughout North America, to embrace life choices which promote national unity among all of our American citizens. It’s very exciting. Our board has just formed, and there will be more information about Theatre for America coming out in the next month or two.”

Madaras added, “This is an extremely special and important performance for our community.

It’s a real shot in the arm for the community in the sense that we’re putting autism in the spotlight here in the show. I’d like to see as many of our citizens at the show as possible, supporting Dylan and his friends and all the performers.

Maybe you’ll learn a little something about autism and the creative abilities of Mr. Dylan Pratt.”

Recipe 2 cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder 1 cup super cold milk 1/3 cup sugar 5 tablespoons super cold butter 1 teaspoon salt 1/3 cup blueberries Additional 1 tablespoon butter, melted Topping 1 cup powdered sugar 1/8 cup water 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice Preheat oven to 450°F.

Mix salt, sugar, flour and baking powder in a bowl. Add the milk into dry ingredients and mix.

As dough begins to form, take tablespoons of butter, broken into chunks, and spread evenly over dough. Knead dough and repeat until all butter is spread in chunks evenly throughout dough. Carefully fold in the blueberries.

Put dough on floured cutting board and roll flat to desired thickness. Cut into biscuits.

Bake 7-12 minutes. Brush with melted butter.

Mix together ingredients for topping and drizzle over biscuits.

Local volunteers, blood donors needed for busy disaster season Submitted to Branson Globe Many weather experts predict a disaster season this year. The American Red Cross needs volunteers to help on the ground and blood donors to roll up a sleeve to maintain a stable blood supply in the face of emergencies.

“We’re preparing for another extremely busy disaster season, and it’s critical to have a trained, ready volunteer workforce to make sure we can provide relief at a moment’s notice,” said Chris Harmon, Regional Disaster Officer for the Missouri Arkansas Region. “This year’s wildfire season is already very active and dangerous because of the severe drought and dry woodlands across the west. And experts are predicting we could see

10 or more hurricanes in the upcoming weeks.”

The Red Cross needs new volunteers to support disaster shelters.

Volunteers will help with reception, registration, food distribution, dormitory, information collection and other vital tasks inside disaster shelters.

The Red Cross also needs volunteers who can work in disaster shelters to address people’s health needs and provide hands-on care in alignment with their professional licensure (registered nurse and licensed practical nurse/licensed vocational nurse). Daily observation and health screening for COVID19-like illness among shelter residents may also be required. We have both associate and superviso-

ry level opportunities available. If you are an RN, LPN, LVN, APRN, NP, EMT, paramedic, MD/DO or PA with a current and unencumbered license, this position could be right for you.

After most disasters this year, the Red Cross plans to open group shelters. However, in some communities, hotels may be more appropriate if the risk of COVID-19, including the delta variant, is particularly high. The Red Cross will also continue many of the safety precautions implemented in 2020, including masks, health screenings, enhanced cleaning procedures and encouraging social distancing.

Local Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly home fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources

for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. If you are team-oriented and want to help your neighbor, the DAT responder may be just the thing for you.

Last year, the Missouri Arkansas Region provided immediate emergency assistance to over 4,500 families after over 3,300 home fires and other disasters.

and exercise. Brad also enjoys jogging.

“Every day I jog about three and a half miles, round trip, from my house to the shop,” said Brad.

“Then I’ll come out in front of the shop, get down on my knees and cry out to God about the shop, and that His presence would be in our shop and that my guys would be blessed, and our customers would be protected. You know, when you ask for more work, sometimes it’s like ‘What kind of panic does that bring in someone else’s life?’

Like that requires someone to have a really bad day for them to come to see me. But, not necessarily. Sometimes it’s just something like faded paint that brings them in. I’ve had people bring their car that they bought brand new 20 years ago and the thought of selling it makes them sad, so they just want to repaint it. I’ve seen people spend $10,000 to $15,000 just repainting and restoring a car that they bought 30 years ago. It’s just real fun to be a part of that – to see people get excited when they see their car come into fruition. Or, when they switch from one color to the next or they are adding some accessories. It brings us a lot of joy to work on cars when folks are just doing it for fun.”

Brad operates Benders Body Shop with a staff of seven, including himself.

“One of the guys worked for my dad years ago and came back to work for us after I took over,” said Amderson. “I have two guys that are right out of vo-tech in Reeds Spring. They’ve graduated from the program within the last two years. So, some of our employees have the vocabulary and they have the book knowledge. They’ve had experience at a school, learning how to do this.

They’re now learning their trade skills. So, we have guys that are at an apprentice type level. Then, my painter has been doing this

since he was a boy, so over 30 years. He spends a lot of time, a lot of hands-on training, with the other guys I have. I’ve got a guy who’s been doing this his whole life and he just wanted something to do a few days a week to keep his artistic skills up.”

Anderson continued, “Some of the guys are a little rough around the edges, but a part of what I do here is offer some grace to some men who I think maybe haven’t received much grace in their lives. I get to see that and how it’s reflected in their work. It’s, again, part of that restoration thing. I’m not dealing just with cars here, I’m dealing with people. Sometimes people are in just as much of a mess as their cars.”

Though they are located on Missouri Highway 165, Anderson noted that the best way to get directions to his business is by utilizing the internet.

“Google our business,” explained Anderson. “Go to ‘Body Shops near me’. They are ranked by how many reviews they have.

We strive to get our customers to

leave us reviews. We really want folks, after we fix their cars, to give us their thoughts. Our Google Business Listing will point you to our website, and our Facebook link, so the Google Business Listing really is the best way to find us.”

Hollister senior attends 81st session of Missouri Boys State

Submitted to Branson Globe Hollister High School’s Michael Schultz was among 504 outstanding Missouri students to participate in the 81st session of the American Legion Boys State of Missouri. The program was held June 12-19 on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

Missouri Boys State is designed to educate and train young leaders in leadership,

citizenship and the fundamentals of government and politics. The student leaders, “citizens,” combine their knowledge and skills to build an entire operational state government in a single week which includes electing city, county and state officials.

Boys State is a pure democracy in that all citizens may vote and are eligible to hold office. Participants fully engage in activities during the eight-day program as they gain an understanding of government, learn about their rights and responsibilities as citizens, and enhance their leadership and citizenship skills.

Schultz says that Boys State will help him to stay motivated throughout his senior year as he prepares for his future. “Meeting other students who are the same

age as me with an equal or greater amount of ambition than me made me feel as though I needed to do more and become more involved in my community and my activities,” Schultz shares. “It was the first time that I have experienced a large concentration of like-minded, fiercely focused teenage boys exposing me to a lot of different views and teaching me how to interact with others that are just like me in the way that they want their lives to turn out.”

Schultz (son of Stan and Kathy Schultz) has earned an academic letter, was named to the honor roll, and is a member of the National Honor Society. He serves as a class officer and as a member of the Student Council and is a member of the Future Business Leaders of Ameri-

ca. Schultz was selected and participated in the Missouri Leadership Seminar. He also participates in basketball, football, and golf and is employed. At Missouri Boys State, Schultz was a citizen of Pershing City; a member of the Federalist Party; chose and attended the law school where he passed the Boys State bar exam leading him to become an attorney and to run for the state office of attorney general. He was elected to the City Council and served as the County Committee Vice-Chairman and as a delegate to County Committee from Ward I. He also appeared on the ballot for municipal judge, county party vice chairman, presiding county commissioner, and senator. And, has been recommended to return as a staff member at the 2022 session.

According to Missouri Department of Transportation Assistant Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer Jon Nelson, traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for youth (15-20) in Missouri, accounting for nearly 12.3% of traffic fatalities during the last three years.

“Many factors come into play in these preventable tragedies, including inexperience, alcohol, speeding, distracted driving and simply not buckling up,” said Nelson. “Bringing B.R.A.K.E.S. to Jefferson City is one of many investments we’re making in an effort to eventually eliminate traffic deaths on Missouri roads.”

Major new talent contest comes to the Ozarks this fall Submitted to Branson Globe Ozarks DynaCom, a multimedia and communications company in the central Ozarks region, has announced a new talent contest to debut this fall. The competition will take place from August 16 through mid-November 2021. After online entries are secured, the public will vote for their favorite acts online and during three live shows. A combination of audience voting and professional judging will select the finalists and ultimate winners. Both the Ozark Arts Council, based in Harrison, Arkansas, and the Branson Regional Arts Council in Branson are helping to produce the contest and are benefiting from live event ticket sales.

“The Ozarks’ region deserves a talent contest of this scale,” said Steve Willoughby, General Manager of Ozarks DynaCom who is hosting the new contest.

“We are in a unique position, with the contacts, resources and large, multimedia coverage across this region to provide the exposure and coordinate the

expertise that a competition of this caliber requires. Our plan is to make the Ozarks DynaCom FiveStar Talent Contest a major event in the region and a huge celebration of talent throughout the Ozarks.”

Contest entries will be accepted online from August 16 through September 12, 2021.

Online voting will begin on September 17 and run through October 10, 2021. More than 30 contest semi-finalists will be selected to appear in two live shows. On November 5 semi-final acts will appear at the Owen Theater in Branson, Missouri, and on November 6, a different group of semi-finalists will compete at the Lyric Theater in Harrison, Arkansas. Top contenders from each semi-final will then take part at a championship, live show in Branson on a date still to be determined. Prize packages will be communicated as those details are confirmed.
