Branson’s Cox Medical Center was the site of a Prayer Square, held from 10 a.m. on August 23 until 10 a.m. on August 24.

Following more than a year of chaos, upheaval and division in our world and right here in our own neighborhood, Cox Medical Center wanted to find a way to bring the Branson community closer together.

Relay for Life event raises money for American Cancer Society

By K.D. Michaels, Staff Writer Months of planning culminated in a very successful Relay for Life of Taney and Stoney counties, despite the weekend weather.

The area’s biggest annual fundraiser in support of the American Cancer Society was held last weekend at the Hollister High School.

“I think we had a great event, though lightly attended,” said Relay for Life Chair Lisa Wilfong.

Some of the Saturday evening activities were moved inside due to the threat of rain.

Said Wilfong, “We did move our fun and games inside, along with our luminary display, due to rain predictions. We had a great fun and games area inside the gym. There were several cornhole games, ring toss with an inflatable flamingo, hula hoops and other yard games. The frozen

T-shirt contest was so funny. They had to get a frozen t-shirt unfolded and on, which was tricky.

Willfong continued, “In the Little Miss and Mister competition, the girls and boys went around and collected money. The boys raised $41.92 to win. Our silent auction did wonderful, too.”

A highlight of the evening came, courtesy of the host venue.

“The Hollister School used their awesome new scoreboard to play three American Cancer Society videos,” Wilfong noted. “That was thrilling to see.”

The fundraiser put Wilfong and her team near their goal of raising $25,000 this year.

“As of now, we are approximately $3,000 from our goal of $25,000,” Wilfong explained.

“This is the closest we have come

to reaching our goal in recent years.

Our next event, Taking Aim at Cancer, is November 4 at the Ozark Shooters Sports Complex. Hopefully we will have great attendance, bringing in at least $3,000.”

CoxHealth raises minimum wage to $15.25/hour, looks to hire more workers

Submitted to Branson Globe CoxHealth’s minimum wage will soon rise to $15.25 per hour.

In addition to greater compensation, this change carries a call to arms for the region. More people are needed at CoxHealth to help meet the dramatic increase in demand for care, both spurred on by the COVID-19 pandemic and in light of anticipated future growth throughout the region.

“We recognize health care can often mean long hours and dif-

ficult work, and that it is not for everyone,” says Steve Edwards, president and CEO of CoxHealth.

“But it is also a place where one can fulfill a higher calling and have a sense of purpose and mission in service to humanity.”

This change represents the health system’s largest starting wage adjustment in its history, impacting 6,500 employees. Of this figure, 5,000 are entry level workers, and 1,500 are colleagues up the career ladder. In total, it represents

a $25.5 million investment.

All CoxHealth employees who earn less than $15.25 per hour will automatically increase to the new rate. To help recognize skill and dedication to the organization, many others in similar ranges who are already making more than $15.25 will also receive raises.

“Our people are our most important asset, and we want to recognize them for the great, life-changing work they do every day, which has been especially pronounced over

the past year and a half,” says Andy Hedgpeth, vice president of Human Resources at CoxHealth.

“We hope that this increase, and the many people and departments it affects, shows our employees how much we value them.”

The increase will be effective in October 2021. Employees who are impacted by this adjustment will be notified in the coming days.

Hollister teacher is Teacher of the Year semifinalist Submitted to Branson Globe The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has announced that Hollister High School Science teacher, Richard White, is one of the 17 Regional Teachers of the Year who have been selected as semifinalists for the 2022 Missouri Teacher of the Year award. The Teacher of the Year program spotlights the positive impact excellent teachers have on their students.

The list of semifinalists includes teachers from multiple grade levels and subject areas and represents all of the state’s nine Regional Professional Development Center (RPDC) areas.

The Teacher of the Year selection process began with the announcement of 35 regional teachers of the year. Next, DESE will reveal the finalists for the 2022 Missouri Teacher of the Year award on Thursday, September 2.

Annual Midwest Sled car show features many unique vehicles

By K.D. Michaels, Staff Writer Dozens of classic cars filled the parking lot of Branson’s Honeysuckle Inn and Conference Center last weekend for the 14th Annual Midwest Sled Car Show.

Deemed “A Car Show to Remember,” the event featured a variety of pre-1976 custom cars, trucks and hot rods, as well as motorcycles and even

a kiddie-car, some for sale, and all displayed for spectators in a fabulous Show and Shine. Other weekend activities included a movie night, a flame-throwing contest, music and food, and a shopping excursion.

The highlights of the funfilled car show were an awards

Children are people, too. Children do not like to be yelled at!

The way we talk to children greatly affects their learning. Our tone and volume of voice are very important as we relate to the little ones.

We need to take the time, whenever possible, to explain and reason with children.

I have observed, over the years, that many parents constantly bark orders to children, often so rapidly that the children do not have time to mentally process one order before being given another. When this happens, children become resentful, confused, embarrassed and often give up trying to obey. They may pout or act out in frustration. They hurt inside because they feel that the one yelling at them does not love them. It becomes even more confusing when, after barking orders to the children, a few minutes later that same parent may say, “I love you.”

maintain those habits. Habits only go so far. Understanding of reasons for acting appropriately will extend the correct behavior. There comes a time in a child’s life when that child begins to question what parents have told them. If they have the basic understanding of the “whys,” they are more apt to stick with what they have been taught.

The use of questions instead of statements is so very important in helping children reason out the “whys” of behavior. Telling is not teaching! When we ask questions, a child is forced to think. Following are some examples of common questions that can be asked in various situations: • How would Bob feel if you told him that?

• What would happen if you did that?

• What were you thinking when you did that?

• What do you think Susan was thinking when she did that?

• How would the people around you feel if they heard you say that?

These are just general questions to help a child think through his/her actions before deciding. They also help to develop empathy and teach decision-making.

Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish wrote a book titled, “How to Talk So Kids Can Learn.” I highly recommend it. Although I do not agree with everything in the book, it certainly helps us rethink how we talk to children.

This scenario gives an untrue example of love. Love is patient. On the other hand, if we slow down, take time to let the child process instructions, and explain where needed, the child calms down, is more likely to obey, and senses love as shown through patience. Sometimes a parent will get better results to simply go to the child, put an arm around that child, and whisper instructions slowly.

Children can often understand more than we give them credit for if we take the time to give the explanations in words they understand.

We forget that they do not have the same vocabulary that we have.

They increase their vocabulary as we explain why we expect them to do certain things. When they have the understanding, they are more apt to act appropriately on their own when parents are not around. Many believe that if they just get their children in the habit of doing certain things that they will grow up and

She had a tireless faith. Bearing the scorn and shame that was common at that time for a woman with a barren womb, she brought her plea before God, asking him to give her a child. She often wept bitterly and wouldn’t eat, which worried her husband greatly. As she cries out to God in the temple one day, Eli the priest sees her and thinks she’s drunk. Though he at-

tempts to send her away, Hannah explains to him why she is there.

Seeing her distress, Eli speaks life into her womb and she conceives a son, Samuel, who would go on to become one of the greatest prophets of the Lord, and the one who would anoint David as king over Israel. Hannah praises God, saying, “For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord.

As long as he lives, he is lent to

the Lord.”

When I became pregnant with my second child, a baby girl, I had no question as to the name God wanted me to give her. Hannah Kathryn. Now, whenever I speak her name, I’m reminded of two great women of prayer: Hannah, Samuel’s mother, and Kathryn Kuhlman, an evangelist who saw many people saved and healed under her ministry during the ‘60s SEE TIFFANY’S, PAGE 7

Reflections: Replay the evidence

and ‘70s. When I speak my daughter’s name, I speak it as a declaration over her life that she, too, will be a mighty woman of God. I could see a God-given tenacity in her even when she was a baby.

One day, when Hannah was only a few months old, I had laid her on the floor so she could play. She had not yet learned to roll from her back to her tummy, but that day I noticed her trying. There was something different in her face than I had ever seen in any baby of that age before—a look of sheer determination. I watched her as she attempted to roll over again and again.

While most babies would have given up at that point, Hannah had her mind set, and she was not going to give up until she accomplished her goal. She became emotional.

You could tell that she was very frustrated with herself. She started to cry, but still did not back down.

She was mad. Finally, full of adrenaline, she mustered up all of her

The prophet Habakkuk, looking at the wickedness of Israel and surrounding nations, cried out, “Why do you make me look at injustice?” (1:3, NIV) He’s not the only prophet to have been surrounded by evil; also, many Psalms are laments, often by David, asking “How long?” or “Why?” The plight of Christians and Western sympathizers in Afghanistan is heart-wrenching; the destruction in Haiti is hard to watch. Closer to home, yet another friend lost her husband to COVID-19. I’ll attend a funeral this week for a cousin who battled multiple ailments and learning disabilities most of his life. My life hasn’t been problem-free: I’m a cancer survivor, our kids have made a

strength and rolled over for the first time.

The constant daily motion of kicking her legs and rocking from side-to-side in hopes of eventually rolling had strengthened her muscles just enough to finally push her over onto her belly. From that time on, she was rolling all over the place.

At only a few months old, Hannah was full of perseverance and determination. I knew that God had gifted her with those traits. As she grew, she continued to display her will to excel, and I was continually inspired.

Such is the determination of a child of God who perseveres through trials, never losing sight of the end for which they strive. And prayer is the practice which builds their spiritual muscles and pushes them over into a new posture that they never could have attained before.

Keep praying and persevering, my friends! Before you know it, you’ll be taking new ground in God’s strength and victory!

A recent devotional piece was a reminder that in the midst of it all, God is still good. He wasn’t caught off guard by any of this, and he has a plan for our ultimate redemption. Reminding readers of that, Proverbs 31 Ministries writer Nicki Koziarz wrote, “Replay the evidence.”

So I did, looking back through journals and notes in my Bible. I smiled as I recalled God’s provision when I was pregnant with our third child, years ago. My part-time job would end with a new baby; our income would drop; jobs weren’t plentiful. No matter how we adjusted the figures, our budget wouldn’t work. We prayed, trying not to worry.

Each week, I shopped—fru-

gally—at a local grocery store that had a punch card for a weekly cash prize drawing. If the person whose name was drawn had visited the store that week and had the card punched, the cash was theirs; if not, the amount increased the next week. We often joked about how we’d spend that jackpot, as I faithfully had the card punched, but it was never me.

Just a few weeks before Luke was born, the prize worked its way up to what was a pretty sizeable amount 26 years ago.

As I pulled in to shop that week, my daughter began to yell, “Mom! The sign! It’s your name!” Sure enough, I won, an amount just enough to pay off the last bit of my husband’s student loan and the balance on our car. Eliminating those payments, with careful budgeting,

we could manage. God knew exactly when I needed that prize.

Life still isn’t perfect, but there’s more evidence: I’ve had good checkups for 12 years. Our kids are productive, caring adults, their bad choices behind them.

Our finances are recovering.

Habakkuk may not have lived to see improvement, but he wrestled through his arguments by recalling God’s past provision and said, “Yet I will rejoice.” (3:18). David reminds himself in Psalm 103:2 to “forget not all His benefits,” and in v. 6, “The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.”

When things look bleak, take a moment to replay your evidence. God is good; his mercies win in the end. Justice will prevail.

Recovery Jamboree family fun day planned September 18 Submitted to Branson Globe The community is invited to a Recovery Jamboree on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This fun day of food, games and fellowship is a collaborative event hosted by area recovery support organizations in honor of National Recovery Month.

Marietta Hagan, project coordinator for the Stone & Taney Counties Substance Use Initiative at Cox Health, said the goal is to promote recovery, showing the community not only that recovery is possible, but that many people in recovery are now thriving and giving back to the community.

Drug Free Ozarks will host a photo booth for fun pictures with friends or family. Other participating organizations include the Sim-

mering Center, Brook Wellness Center, Door to Hope, Missouri Alternatives, Celebrate Recovery, Taney County Drug Court, Stone County Recovery Center, Sanctuary of Hope, Burrell Health, CAM, and Standing by the Door.

There will be a bounce house, popcorn and snow cone machines, water balloons, and games such as corn hole, plus music and a silent auction.

Recovery Jamboree will be held in the parking lot and adjoining grassy field at Sanctuary of Hope, 1790 Bee Creek Road, Branson, with parking available at the Branson Schools’ district office next door. Come on out and help celebrate the area families living successfully in recovery—and see what is possible!

Music City Coffee at King’s Chapel Branson set to open August 31

By Cindy Thomas, Staff Writer King’s Chapel Branson announces the grand opening of Music City Coffee, located in Music City Center at 1839 W. 76 Country Blvd., on Tuesday, August 31. Coffee shop manager Jenalyn Davis and her crew invite local residents, tourists or anyone needing a relaxing break from driving “the strip” to stop by on Tuesday for buy-1-get-1 coffee drinks to celebrate.

Coffee shop hours are 8 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday through Saturday. The shop is also open for an hour before King’s Chapel Sunday services, which start at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Music City Coffee offers a full line of basic and specialty coffee drinks. They plan to ro-

tate seasonal flavors, with the grand opening just in time for fall favorites including pumpkin spice. A selection of teas, both iced and hot, is available, plus a fruit-based refresher drink.

Baked goods from Branson’s Moonlight Bakery are available, and some breakfast items will be added soon.

While there are several great coffee shops in the area, many on the strip are drive-through only. Music City does not offer drive-through service at this time, but the goal is to provide a comfortable, welcoming place to sit down, take a break, and take advantage of free Wi-fi or just relax.

“We currently have seven full-time agents working out of our downtown Branson office,” Grady noted. “My wife, Karen, is also a licensed agent, but she has taken a leave of absence to be a grandmother to our grandchildren. I have a son, Jeremiah, who works in the software industry, and my daughter, Jordan, who is a broker in our office.”

A native Missourian, Grady was born and raised in the Branson area.

“I was born in the old Skaggs Hospital which is now Cox Medical Center,” said Grady.

“I write a daily column, and we also do a weekly, live, interactive broadcast from our office in downtown Branson. My wife and I are also founders of Harvest House International Ministries in the Philippines where I serve as president and senior pastor. We currently have 20 churches on the Island of Mindanao, a Bible school, a Christian school, feeding programs, hundreds of life groups, and outreaches that minister to thousands on a weekly basis.”

Grady quipped, “My motto is, ‘I sell real estate to support my mission’s habit.’”

Grady made his first trip to the Philippines in 1998, responding to a call he felt to go into the mission field.

The Hollister and the Kimberling City Harter House locations offer curbside pickup, as

do several other area businesses, but Harter House also takes it to the next level with home delivery. The Hollister location serves ZIP codes 65672, 65616, and 65739, comprising Hollister, Branson and Ridgedale addresses; the Kimberling City location serves 65686. The delivery service was started as an extra convenience during the COVID-19 lockdowns and is being continued as many people still appreciate it while dealing with sickness or schedule challenges.

Are you ready to show proof of COVID vaccination?

By Gary J. Groman, Independent Writer An August 16, 2021, wsj.com article says, “Your vaccine card could soon be required at many of the best restaurants, clubs and shows...”

Two things are happening, increasing the likelihood that people will be required to show proof of having received the COVID vaccinations.

The first is the FDA approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine on August 23, 2021. The second is the growing number of employers, businesses and entities requiring proof of such vaccinations.

A recent Fortune.com article entitled, “All the major companies requiring vaccines for workers,” lists major companies imposing some sort of mandatory vaccine requirements for their employees. Although varying in scope as to which class of employees they apply to, these include companies such as

AT&T, Chevron, Cisco, CNN, CVS, Frontier Airlines, Google, Microsoft, Tyson Foods and many more. And it’s not just employers requiring proof of COVID vaccinations from employees.

There is a growing list of entities requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccinations from customers, fans and those wanting to participate in certain activities or events. Fans wishing to attend NFL Las Vegas Raiders games will have to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Cities such as New York and San Francisco require proof of vaccination to get into restaurants, entertainment, bars, etc.

Lisa Marshall, the Director of the Taney County Health Department (TCHD), advises that of this date, in Missouri, the best form of proof that one has had the COVID vaccinations is the CDC’s “COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card.” Marshall was asked what those who, for

one reason or the other, didn’t have a CDC card could do. She said, “Individuals that need additional verification of their COVID-19 vaccination can request a vaccination record from the Taney County Health Department.” For various reasons, that record will not be a CDC card but rather the requestor’s official Missouri Immunization Record.

This writer did not realize the importance of keeping the CDC card when he got his first COVID shot in January 2021. Consequently, the CDC card he got for the second shot in February just verified that shot and did not reflect the original shot.

When I called the Taney County Health Service (TCHD) to inquire about getting the first shot added to my card, I was informed that, although they could not do anything to update the CDC card, they could issue me a copy of my official “Missouri Immunization Record.”

This is an official record showing the dates of COVID vaccinations.

I called the TCHD at 417-3344544. At the menu prompts, I selected “8” for “COVID Information” and “3” for “Other COVID Questions or Concerns” under that.

More than likely, like me, you will get a recorded message that they will call you back. I received a call back within a few hours.

They took the information needed and said I could pick up the im-

munization record at the TCHD office at 320 Rinehart Road. It could not be mailed because of the requirement to show proof of identity.

A couple of days later, I went to the TCHD. Upon arrival, I called 417-334-4544 and dialed “590.”

The person said to come up to the window with identification and that they would be right out. Less than five minutes later, I was leaving with my official Missouri Immunization Record.”

New Branson coffee shop has a unique name and menu

By K.D. Michaels, Staff Writer A unique new coffee shop is already popular with locals and visitors alike.

Owned by Damian and Christie Porfirio, The Ground Up opened in April of this year. You will find Christie behind the counter of The Ground Up, as she takes care of the day-to-day operations, while Damian focuses on the couple’s second business in media production.

“I am a Branson native, and Damian is from Tennessee,” explained Christie. “He moved here in 2016 to pursue acting and filmmaking. We met in 2018. I was the general manager for Bob Evans for four years and have been in the restaurant industry in Branson for 16 years. Damian started his media company here in 2017, so he has been doing that for a while.”

According to Porfirio, The Ground Up strives to offer a unique menu.

“We are focused on making the best Italian espresso drinks you can get,” Porfirio explained, “We also serve a variety of baked goods and other specialty drinks such as ice cream floats. We are big on supporting small businesses and our community by selling local art and merchandise in our shop, too. We do a feature twice a week on our social media accounts to highlight these small businesses, as well.”

One small business that The Ground Up supports is Table Rock Coffee Roasters.

“We have partnered with Table Rock Coffee Roasters to roast our coffee beans for us,” said Porfirio.

“They were super helpful in coming up with a special blend just for us.

We have partnered with Ice Cream Factory out of Eldon, Missouri, to supply our ice cream. They are a small, family-owned business that

When asked what sets The Ground Up apart from other area coffee shops, Porfirio explained, “We feel it is the personal touch and how customizable our drinks are. We have so many flavors, syrups and toppings that you really can create almost anything you can think of. We also have ice cream, which many coffee shops don’t have. We can pretty much start and end your day on a happy note.

The last thing I feel sets us apart is the variety of art and merchandise we sell. We truly have a lot of talent in our shop.”

Said Porfirio, “My mom came up with the name. She felt it really spoke about how I have grown as a person and how Damian rebuilt his life after moving here. Plus, we literally had to dig the ground up to build The Ground Up. So, there is a lot of personal meaning behind it.”

By Cindy Thomas, Staff Writer The community is invited to “Star-Spangled Branson,” Saturday, September 4, at 10 a.m. This special concert and educational session, a presentation of Liberty Lectures, will be held at the Hughes Brothers Theatre, 3425 W. 76 Country Blvd., Branson.

Featured speaker will be Darren Myers. Myers serves as director of the Freedom Encounter Museum which will open soon at the former Yellow Ribbon Theatre, 3220 Falls Parkway in Branson. As an educator and pastor, Myers became a student and researcher of American history.

Together with his congregation in Rolla, Missouri, Myers hosted a

patriotic educational rally for several years before deciding to pursue patriotic education full time.

With his wife and son, he founded Freedom Focus and began traveling to share the message of the faith foundations of the United States. For the past few years, the group has presented a patriotic show during Branson’s Veterans Week. Now the goal is to have an interactive, educational museum open year-round to help Branson visitors learn more about American ideals through the eyes of the founders.

Legacy Academy to hold shoe drive

By K.D. Michaels, Staff Writer The Legacy Academy is holding a shoe drive beginning on September 1, to raise money for the Legacy Parent Council and to help those in other parts of the world.

The Legacy Parent Council is joining forces with Funds2Orgs to benefit the Christian-based school.

Shoes – new, gently worn, or used – gathered by Legacy Academy, will be purchased

by Funds2Orgs, based on the total weight of all shoes collected. Shoes will then be distributed, via Funds2Orgs, to a network of their partners in other nations. The shoes are then sold, with those funds helping the less fortunate in developing countries with basic needs, such as food, clothing and shelter, as Funds2Orgs helps those in

need start and maintain businesses.

“We are excited about our very first shoe drive,” noted Legacy Academy Director Kathryn Jones. “Our heart is for our students to be mission-minded. The shoe drive is a great way for us to turn our words into actions and help others who are in need.

It is important to involve our students in these activities as it provides us an opportunity to talk about what the Lord calls us to do, and that is to love our neighbor.”

Locally, the money raised from the sale of the shoes will allow the Parent Council to help the Legacy Academy students and teachers in a variety of areas.

Reader’s Corner: Taneyhills Library to offer computer classes Submitted to Branson Globe Taneyhills Library is excit-

ed to announce new computer classes beginning in September.

Thanks to grant funding, the library has a tech room with several laptop computers, so classes can be held in a private area with plenty of workspace and time for instruction.

The first class, “Show Me How: Basic Computer Training,” begins Tuesday, September 7, at 10:30 a.m. in the Stanley & Elaine Ball Tech Room at the library. The course runs for four weeks. Each session will have about 30 minutes of instruction, followed by 15 minutes for Q & A about the lesson or other computer-related questions.

This course is designed for individuals who are new to technology or want to learn about using a computer but are intimidated by them or afraid they lack the necessary skill set. As many events and daily activities were forced online by the COVID-19 pandemic, some people felt lost

and unable to socialize, worship, use telemedicine services or order groceries. This class can change that! Classes will focus on using email, passwords, getting comfortable on the internet, using the mouse to navigate, and possibly learning to do some online shopping. Each class participant will have a computer to use during the class instruction time, so there is limited class space and registration is required.

Fall semester gets underway at College of the Ozarks Submitted to Branson Globe College of the Ozarks began the fall semester with worship and a workday on Aug. 23 with classes beginning on Aug. 24.

The traditional Character Camp student orientation took place this week.

Every semester at C of O begins with Character Camp. This weeklong experience introduces new students to C of O’s community, including team building, campus service projects, student interaction and mentorship. Over 300 students were split between 32 different “families” to take part in the orientation.

“Character Camp provides our new students with a Christ-centered experience, creating opportunities for community and personal growth,” said Dean of Students Nick Sharp. “The College is excited to welcome a new class and is committed to foster-

ing an environment that pursues faith together.”

Upperclassman served as “moms” and “pops,” answering questions and leading the new students in events throughout the week.

The week included breakout sessions, convocations, a challenge course, trips to Silver Dollar City and White Water, and campus service projects. As part of the festivities, students participate in the “catwalk.” During the catwalk, the incoming class walks through campus together linking arms, displaying unity among classmates. Near the end of their senior year, they will walk the path again, but in reverse order, culminating by exiting the Gates of Opportunity for a social gathering, sponsored by the Alumni Association.

“I had a great experience when I was in Character Camp,” said

Ethan Hutchison, senior computer information science major.

“My goal as a pop was to show the incoming students the love of Jesus and provide the students in my family with an amazing experience, all while building invaluable relationships.”

The College also uses the week to prepare students for their academic journey.

“Character Camp includes a meeting between new students and their academic advisors, based on their choice of intended major,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Eric Bolger. “Many professors speak at Character Camp, giving students guidance on how to be successful in college, both academically and personally.

CoxHealth begins universal employee COVID-19 vaccinations Submitted to Branson Globe After seeing vaccine safety, efficacy and full FDA approval, CoxHealth will move to universal COVID-19 vaccinations for its employees.

The decision was led by the health system’s physician leaders, who are advocates for the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.

CoxHealth’s COVID-19 Incident Command team – comprised of medical directors of many specialties across the system, including Infectious Diseases, Pulmonology, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, and nursing and physician leaders – supports universal vaccination.

Cox Medical Group leaders, who have been elected as representatives by hundreds of physicians across the system, have given it unanimous endorsement. These voices are also supported by the health system’s board of directors and administration.

“This decision is ultimately led by science, which has shown us that vaccinations are the way we can end this pandemic,” says

Steve Edwards, president and CEO of CoxHealth.

Under the change, all CoxHealth employees must have their first dose of vaccine by October 15. This decision applies to all physicians, vendors, students and employees who are on CoxHealth’s campuses.

“Ultimately, this decision has been made in support of our most urgent priority of protecting our employees, patients and community. We have seen great tragedy over the past 18 months: Hundreds of lives lost due to COVID-19, even more left with long-term impacts, and untold moments of pain for our employees and community members due to this dreadful virus,” says Edwards. “We take this opportunity to unify and move forward together as we work to protect our community, as we have been called to do in health care.”

To date, nearly 70 percent of CoxHealth employees are already vaccinated against COVID-19, as well as more than 90 percent of physicians.

By Kerry Dawn Green Make ahead breakfast for busy fall mornings Quantities vary based on number of desired sandwiches. This recipe is for 6 hamburger-sized bun sandwiches.

• 9 eggs, scrambled and seasoned, as desired • 6 hamburger buns, grilled on stove if desired • 6 slices of cheese of your choice Bake eggs in a small cookie sheet at 350° to desired doneness. Once done slice into 6 equal squares and allow to cool slightly.

Top each bottom bun with egg and

a slice of cheese.

Cool. Wrap tightly in cling wrap and freeze.

For breakfast just pop in the microwave for 30-45 seconds with wrapper intact. Sandwich will stream in cling wrap and be perfect for on the go.

Taney County Health Department receives Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic designation Submitted to Branson Globe Congratulations to the Taney County Health Department (TCHD) WIC Program which has been designated as a Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. TCHD is one of 52 WIC Clinics in the state to receive this distinction. Being a Breastfeeding Friendly clinic means that employers proactively support women who choose and continue to breastfeed their infants.

“Implementing the necessary steps to be a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic” is not easy,” states Wendy Faulkner, TCHD Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, “The WIC team works together to apply for this certification every year.”

Some of the criteria that must be met include: • Having a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor on staff to provide support, counseling, and encouragement • Having a breastfeeding expert on staff • All WIC staff must be sup-

Southern Missouri Arts Council will host ‘Elect,’ an exhibit of choices Submitted to Branson Globe The Southern Missouri Arts Connection (SMAC) will host a solo exhibit of local graphic artist, Judah Fansler, September 3-24, at its gallery, located at 7 Downing Street in Hollister.

The exhibit, entitled “Elect,” is a thought-provoking display of graphic-designed labels for pseudo products that highlight the most complex decisions everyone faces. The exhibit also takes a gentle poke at our

Aiel and Brielle Fansler, both accomplished musicians, will be performing original music during the reception.

“I originally envisioned a solo exhibit of drawings with the same theme,” Fansler said, “but

after attempting to force the content into my surrealistic illustration style, I realized it was time to go back to the drawing board.” He turned to his graphic design background. “After all, I specialize in converting a client’s core values about a product into text, graphics, illustrations and visual messaging. My primary goal is for the target consumer to immediately recognize a product’s purpose and

value, choosing it above other products,” he added. “What better way to illustrate my themes.”

For this exhibit he created mock product labels, brochures and posters centered on two themes – virtue and vice. He encourages viewers to pick up and examine the items and ask themselves, how the branding might influence their decisions.

Though academically trained in studio art, Fansler makes his living as a graphic artist. He is the sole proprietor of Packaging Design & Beyond. He attributes his traditional art education background to his success. “It’s why I continue my art training and love to draw,” Fansler said. “I get the unique opportunity to merge the best of both worlds.” He also dabbles in digital painting, but prefers the drawing my hand. “The tactile sounds and feelings that flow from charcoal gliding over the tooth of newsprint, or the satisfaction of ink spreading on illustration board, cannot be digitally replicated—yet.

It all started when Michael met Robbie Bryant, owner of KEG Media one of the most wellknown Lifted Truck designers in the country, whose designs can be seen gracing almost every trucking magazine front covers month after month, and who happened to be staying at the resort back in 2015.

Robbie started up a conversation about creating a cool event for the resort and to introduce Branson to a younger audience —Michael along with his partners, wife Jeannette, and Patsy and Jack O’Kieffe talked it through, and Lifted Truck Nationals was born.

Not only can spectators come enjoy a fantastic outdoor event, they get to hear great music, shop with vendors, play assorted games and get up close and personal to over 500 of the most exciting looking trucks in the country.

To top it off as a teaser for the

show every year the Branson Landing allows them to parade through the lower promenade stopping in front of the fountains for photo opps for the fans. Parade is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening, September 10; and the event gates open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 11; and Sunday, September 12 at Branson Cedars Resort for the rest of the weekend festivities.

This year Michael has teamed up with Dan Bunting the organizer of the Powerboat Nationals Gran Prix Series held this same weekend and will be including their powerboats as part of the parade on Friday evening.
