By K.D. MICHAELS, Staff Writer Approximately two million dogs are adopted each year from animal shelters and rescues across the country. On May 20, we celebrate National Rescue Dog Day, in celebration of all of those dogs that have found their forever homes with help from such an organization. Taney County is fortunate to have two organizations that help pets find their perfect homes – Taney County Animal Control and the Shepherd of the Hills Humane Society. Sherry Simpson, who serves as the Animal Control Division

Manager with Taney County Animal Control, has been with the organization since 2009. Sherry and her staff receive animals in a variety of ways. They take in animals that are surrendered by their owner, found as strays, brought in as police assists (animal was with owner who was arrested), death of an owner or service during a natural or manmade disaster. “I looked at the intake for the last three years, and it averaged out to 613 dogs (and 288 cats) on the average for each year,” said Simpson. “The year of the Branson tornado, we had over 100 anSEE ANIMAL ADOPTION, PAGE 12

Reverend Minor remembered by congregation and friends By K.D. MICHAELS, Staff Writer The Branson Christian Church – Disciples of Christ – mourns the loss of their beloved pastor. Reverend Dr. Allen Minor passed away on May 14. Minor, a Veteran of the United States Army, had served as pastor of the Branson Christian Church

– Disciples of Christ for the past eight years, relocating to the area from Ohio, where he served at the Faith United Church of Christ. Reverend Minor, fondly known as Pastor Al, held a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis and a Doctorate in Psychology from

the Forest Institute. Reverend Minor shared the last three years of his life with his beautiful and talented wife, Janet, the Membership and Community Relations Manager of the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce. Members of the church and
