FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

FROM THE BOARD CHAIR

Bravo! Vail is a celebration of music, nature, and community. The finest orchestral players, worldclass soloists, leading conductors, and brilliant chamber players perform for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. As Artistic Director, it is my passionate wish that the summer delivers excitement, fun and discovery. 2016 was a summer of memorable “firsts”: our first chamber orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, led by the incomparable Joshua Bell; our first “outdoor” work, John Luther Adams’ Inuksuit for a multitude of percussion; the debut of Motown powerhouse, Ellis Hall, with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra; the first Vail appearance of violin sensation Lisa Batiashvilli with The Philadelphia Orchestra; the first live accompaniment of a Charlie Chaplin silent film with the New York Philharmonic; and the world premiere of Danish composer Poul Ruders’ Piano Quartet. None of this could ever happen without the energy, indefatigable support and relentless work of so many. To our Board, Donors, Staff, Volunteers, Audience Members, and Leaders in the Community, BRAVO! and THANK YOU! It is an honor to play a part.

The 2016 Bravo! Vail Music Festival was a phenomenal success. Thank you for making it all possible! From the first notes of exquisite performance of Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields to the distant drumbeats which closed John Luther Adams’ Inuksuit, the music making delivered every time. I am closing in on my first year as Executive Director of this extraordinary institution. Bravo! is a place where curiosity, dedication, and excellence are translated into transformative musical experiences. It is a privilege to be a part of it. Bravo! Vail executed a record 85 events in 45 days during the Festival including orchestra and chamber music concerts, soirées, Bravo! Vail After Dark events, Little Listeners @ the Library, Pre-concert talks, a wonderfully successful Gala and the percussion experience, Inuksuit, to close the season. The support from this generous community, a dedicated Board of Trustees and Advisory Council, a passionate staff, and tireless volunteers make it all possible. Thank you!

By all measures 2016 was an exceptional year for Bravo! Vail. With the addition of a fourth orchestra to the season, London’s Academy of St Martin in the Fields led by Joshua Bell, Bravo! has positioned itself as the only festival that brings four world-class orchestras together every summer. Artistic Director Anne-Marie McDermott’s leadership and dedication to Bravo! has been instrumental in our recent successes, and in recognition of her impact, we made the commitment to her leadership for five more years. This year saw increases in ticket and contributed revenue, exceeding goals in both areas. While revenue was up, expenses were below budget which continues our tradition of conserving the festival’s finances. Executive Director Jennifer Teisinger brought fresh perspective and energy to the season. She hit the ground running and hasn’t stopped since starting in January of 2016. We are glad she is part of the Bravo! Vail family. Bravo! Vail would not be a leading classical music festival without your support. Thank you for all you do for Bravo!
