Julie handles rentals at the Robert Plecker Workforce Center and oversees Workforce and Continuing Education operations. She has been with BRCC since 2016, working in numerous capacities within the Workforce division. She currently assists clients with all aspects of professional meetings and events in the Plecker Center and other college locations. She has even helped to plan a wedding on campus!

Andrea recently moved back to the area and began working at BRCC in April. She oversees the “JobStarter Advanced Manufacturing Training Program” in which she coordinates partnerships between local manufacturing employers and job-seeking adults in the Shenandoah Valley. Before coming to BRCC, she taught in the Fairfax County Public School system where she taught business and technology.

Photographers often stop shooting when the sun goes down or grab a flash to capture an image. However, there is a lot more photography to explore at night or in a darkened environment by using moonlight, starlight, or even by adding your own light. Experiment with light painting techniques to create images that are unique and sometimes otherworldly. The results will amaze you and open your world to an entirely new dimension in photography. Learn and practice the basic welding processes most commonly used in industrial fabrication. Covers safety procedures, common shop procedures, and welding drawing interpretation.

F F PIPE WELDING II: GTAW Provides the student with the knowledge and handson experience needed to do both manual and orbital GTAW welding of carbon steel pipe and sanitary stainless tubing.

Focuses on welding and fabrication skills used in building welded metal projects. Students will create a working drawing and bill of materials, factor in total costs and weight of their project, cut and tack-weld all components together, and make final welds to complete the job. F F PIPE WELDING I: SMAW Focuses on the techniques used for welding pipe. The shielded metal arc welding process is used to perform practice welds on pipe diameters from 2 to 12 inches. Basic pipe-fitting practices will be demonstrated using butt weld and socket weld fittings to progress through learning to weld pipe in horizontal and vertical positions. One-on-one coaching, welding demonstrations and welding videos will be used to illustrate the techniques the student must follow to successfully pass the 6G qualification test.

The fundamentals for manual machine tool practices for the lathe, mill, and drill press will be explained and demonstrated during this class. Topics include: machine tool safety, proper drilling speeds, and different types of drill bits and their coatings related to drill press operations. You will work side-by-side with your instructor to complete NIMS machining projects on new ProtoTrak machines.

This advanced level machining course explains the operation of the manual lathe in regards to inside and outside machining practices. This will include: turning safety, lathe controls, single-point threading, tapping, fits and tolerances, measurement, process control, tooling and lathe set-up. Proper set-up and use of a four-jaw chuck will be demonstrated and explained. Based on the study of color through relating concepts and theory, this course will better help you understand the relationships and how the treatment of color positively impacts both one’s perception of the world and development in the arts. Sudents will learn through lecture and experience with mixing color. Manipulating color and experimentation with mixing paints provides a great opportunity to comprehend the way color acts, and how colors interact and affect people’s perceptions.

In these trying times, knowing how and where your food is grown has become especially important and difficult to discern. In this innovative online class, focus will be on organic growing methods, using native plants to attract native pollinators, and beneficial insects to your garden. We will discuss seed starting, pest management, soil, fertilizers, and more. Explore the wine industry in Virginia. Students will learn about the various wine trails in Virginia. The course will enhance the student’s enjoyment of visiting Virginia wineries. A field trip will be included in the course.

The course will assist students in knowing how to choose wine to compliment food and cheese pairings. Wine with holiday meals will also be discussed.

The first certificate in this series will help you learn how to properly choose and serve wine at your dinner parties, this Wine Appreciation certificate is a great way to get started on your wine journey.
