Welcome to 2021 at BRCC

WORKFORCE & CONTINUING EDUCATION

HELLO AND WELCOME TO 2021 AT BLUE RIDGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE!

One of the most inspiring programs we offer is the commercial driving program. It has been a cornerstone short- term workforce program at the college since the early 90s. A newer program, but just as crucial, is the Welding and Machining program. Now, both of these programs have new tools to support recruitment and training – mobile simulation labs as pictured on the front cover of this magazine. Instructor Wiley Perry, Welding and Machining program coordinator says,

“The Welding and Machining Lab contains two virtual welding simulators, a computerized

Orbital Pipe Welder, two portable welding systems, a milling machine and a lathe for live demonstrations. We look forward to using them to inspire people to investigate and pursue training in this field. The sky really is the limit for them in this occupation.” And, Jim Butler, CDL program coordinator says,

“This new lab will offer CDL program students the opportunity to learn and reinforce new driving skills. It will also provide employers with professional development training and skills refresher programs for existing employees. With these new tools, we will continue helping unemployed or underemployed students reach new heights with their CDL license.” I hope you will consider attending one of our events and learning more about these programs, the labs, and our great instructors. CDL drivers, welders, and machinists are in high demand for good paying jobs in the Valley. You can get skilled up in six months or less for a fantastic career and there are great financial aid options that make these programs even more accessible and affordable.
