CONRAD MALDIVES RANGALI Island has emerged from refurbishment as one of the Maldives’ most applauded resorts. In a strategic move to continually attract guests, the resort has invested US$3.2 million in redeveloping its beach villas which are set to launch this October. The redevelopment has seen a full renovation of 34 beach villas and bathrooms and this was followed by the development of the Maldives’ first authentic Chinese restaurant Ufaa heralded by celebrity chef Jereme Leung.

away from home. By making small adjustments to a travel program, organisations can greatly increase traveller satisfaction, leading to better overall employee satisfaction – which delivers immense organisational benefits including higher staff retention, improved performance and better bottom line results.”
Conrad Maldives Rangali Island general manager, Lyle Lewis, said the villa refurbishment is aimed at engaging with customers to ensure Conrad Maldives was top of mind when deciding where to stay. “We are one of the most recognised brands in the Maldives’ hospitality market and with the launch of the beach villas we aim to further cement the resort’s position as one of the leader’s in the market. Each beach villa has been completely refurbished to a luxurious haven of comfort and style, and features spacious living areas that are illuminated with natural light and offer private access to the palm fringed beach,” states Lewis. The beach villas nurture a sense of relaxation through distinctive features including floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors leading directly to the beach, a skylight to provide
a naturally illuminated space, and a new bathroom featuring the signature outdoor shower and bathing pavilion. The standout feature of the villa is the extension of the bedroom area which gives guests the option to create a second bedroom by simply closing the curtains to encircle the space. The second bedroom is ideal for young children, teens and parents craving a little bit of privacy. Conrad Maldives Rangali Island offers the popular Conrad Concierge mobile app, which gives global luxury travellers the ability to customise details of their hotel stay before, during, and after each visit via a smartphone or tablet.

The white paper provides a deep dive into each of the generations and offers advice to organisations who may be considering tailoring their travel programs to meet the needs of their employees who are travelling frequently for business. Global account management leader for FCM, Felicity Burke, who was one of the research contributors for the report, said that The Generation Effect provides invaluable insight into the people working within organisations, their travel preferences, adaptability to technology and disruptions and how organisations can overcome these hurdles. She explained: “Duty travel can be challenging, particularly for ‘road warriors’ who are typically Gen X and can spend up to 50 per cent of their working year
Another finding from the report is that the newest generation to the professional sphere, Gen Y, will account for 75 per cent of the global workforce by 2025 – and these travellers actually share more in common with Baby Boomers than the Generation that directly preceded them, Gen X travellers. “Organisations need to start planning today to meet the needs of Generation Y who will form the bulk of the workforce in ten years’ time,” added Felicity. The Generation Effect outlines simple steps that organisations can take to tailor their programs for any generation group. For example, Gen Y travellers have been seen to show a great interest in fitness – so organisations can negotiate hotel rates with properties that offer excellent gym facilities or are located to popular running tracks and parks.
FCM Travel Solutions have released a white paper entitled The Generation Effect, which outlines the markedly different preferences and traveller behaviours that define the three predominant groups currently working in today’s organisations – namely Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y (Millennials).

Hurawalhi Island Resor t to welcome Duniye Spa to Maldives
HURAWALHI ISLAND RESORT TO WELCOME DUNIYE SPA TO MALDIVES There are few things in the world more luxurious than being pampered in paradise. This December, the opening of the new Maldivian island, Hurawalhi, takes this one step further with its Duniye Spa.
A perfect fusion of the natural and the decadent, the Duniye Spa exclusively uses chemical-free, organic, high-quality ingredients and locally-produced coconut oil whilst providing a service only capable of a luxury private island. ‘Duniye’, which means ‘universe’ represents the spa’s philosophy: a universal approach to wellness, with treatments inspired by ancient and modern cultures from around the globe. The spa villa sits over the ocean, offering a feeling of total immersion into serenity and nature. The spa is strongly influenced by the many healing traditions of Asia and Africa, complemented by The HealingEarth and PURE product lines which elevate the senses in both solo and couple treatments. HealingEarth is an African brand with each product lovingly created to harness the restorative powers of Africa’s rich natural resources. Developed by leading cosmetic scientists, all HealingEarth ingredients are carefully selected and meticulously researched, ensuring a pure product which connects users to the healing powers of Mother Earth. All HealingEarth products are free from synthetic fragrances, colourants, petro-chemicals, DEA, preservatives and parabens. For the ultimate in indulgence, the Maldivian Island Paradise Ritual is the one to try. This 120-minute treatment pampers from top to toe, leaving skin hydrated and hair nourished, thanks to the local 100 per cent virgin coconut oil. It begins with a freshly ground Coconut-Vanilla Body

Polish which sloughs off dry skin, revealing healthy skin beneath. A coconut hair mask is then applied, whilst the skilful therapist provides an Indian head massage using rosemary-infused coconut oil. The oil is then left to penetrate the hair, deeply conditioning it in the process, while you lie back and enjoy either a Balinese or Muscle Ease massage with coconut oil.

To discover the city’s specialties Russia in miniature museum, the deepest Metro in the world, the most symmetrical street, the real Egyptian sphinx and much more… The presentation of tourist potential of St. Petersburg will be held on 8th November in the Russian Embassy in London in the framework of the exhibition World Travel Market, which opens from 7 to 9 November 2016.
Saint Petersburg restaurant festival-2016 From 01 to 30 November in Saint Petersburg the «Saint Petersburg restaurant festival-2016» will be held. Since its foundation St. Petersburg has become not only the capital city but also a kind of trendsetter in architecture, culture, history, and the art of cooking. Due to the fact that in the period of construction St. Petersburg the most famous and most talented European artists of the time were invited. With them our city began the tradition of cooking dishes from different European countries.
Chefs from France, Italy and Germany creatively reworked old recipes of Russian cuisine, so many Russian dishes and recipes have found an European tradition. Later the influence of Petersburg’s cuisine began spreading across the territory of Russia, contributing to the diversity of traditional recipes from various regions of the country. Nowadays we can confidently talk about the special Petersburg style of Russian cuisine imbued with the spirit of history, traditions, culinary experiments and innovations.
The program of the «Saint Petersburg restaurant festival-2016» includes themed dinners in restaurants, parties, workshops and master classes, shows in cooking the meals of Petersburg cuisine’s, activities for children and a special children’s menu, as well as exhibitions, competitions and much more. Festival of Lights Festival of Lights is becoming one of the most exciting gala events of Saint Petersburg in autumn. The festival brings together artists, painters and musicians and thousands of visitors who enjoy all patterns of light on different historical monuments. This autumn the festival takes place on November, 04-05th. The festival will bring to life miraculous breathtaking art by newest 3D-mapping and audiovisual technologies.
To feel the city’s soul Modern St. Petersburg, crisscrossed by numerous rivers and canals, stands on more than 100 islands, which are linked to one another by more than 400 bridges. This is why the city is often called “the Venice of the North”. Nearly every building in the downtown is considered to be a historic monument, hence the city’s definition — “open-air museum”. Its historical centre, palace and park ensembles are inscribed in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
Churches and cathedrals Saint Petersburg was planned as a Westoriented city and has always been renowned for its hospitality. Peter the Great encouraged foreigners, especially from Europe, to come to the new capital: they brought a new way of life, knowledge and traditions. To make foreigners feel comfortable in the city Peter the Great and his successors paid much attention to the construction of churches and cathedrals for people of various religions.
Though Saint Petersburg is known as a city of different creeds, it is the Orthodoxy that has long been the official religion of Russia. That is why special emphasis was laid on orthodox churches. The world’s best architects built churches and cathedrals in Saint Petersburg. Sublimity of St.Isaac’s Cathedrals, proportion of the Nikolsky (St.Nicholas’) Cathedral, smartness of the Church of Resurrection of Christ (Spas-na-Krovi) always attract visitors of the city. The beauty and splendor of their inner decorations make indelible impressions upon guests’ minds.
To immerse yourself in St. Petersburg romantics During the “white nights” the Petersburgers flock to the banks of the Neva to see the sun set. The “white nights” period lasts from May to July. Countless festivals and concerts are held in the parks and on the city’s squares and embankments: Scarlet Sails school leavers festival, River Carnival, Festival of Ice Crackers, Festivals of garden art. During such days the city marks its anniversary – on May 27th. Every day from May to October sometime after two o’clock in the morning the multi-tonne wings of the bridges swing gently upwards to let vessels on the river pass.

DEVON DELIGHT
78
Devon Delight
Devon is at its most delightful in autumn. The commotion of summer eases into a golden tranquillity, giving the time and space to savour its striking coastline and the gentility of its towns and villages. Maidencombe is a slice of quintessential Devon. Lying on the South West Coastal Path, the hidden hamlet is collection of thatched cottages and winding lanes cloaked by hedgerows of wild flowers. At the end of town, a small sandy cove is peppered with rocky outcrops, and towering sandstone cliffs. Maidencombe is also home of one of the county’s hospitality gems – Orestone Manor. The former home of John Callcott Horsley (the designer of the first commercial Christmas card), the Georgian stately home is enjoying a renaissance under the guidance of two chefs, Neil and Catherine D’Allen, The varied landscape of Devon produces delicious produce – including South Devon Beef, West Country free range pork and lamb, local estate wild game, and hand-dived scallops – which the D’Allens have crafted into their menu. Their tantalising autumn offerings include the finest local meats, freshly-caught Brixham fish, and vegetables, some of which are grown in the hotel gardens. Orestone Manor is the setting where 18th Century engineering legend, Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s National
Portrait Gallery painting was produced by his brother-inLaw, John Callcott Horsley. The swanky new ‘Brunel Bar & Lounge’ reflects the great man’s Orestone connection, with custom features based on his famous Royal Albert Bridge over the River Tamar – a stunning design landmark closely associated with him in Devon and Cornwall. In Brunel and Horsley’s era, Orestone Manor served as the setting for family gatherings, candlelit dinners, music in the parlour, children’s games and a spot of croquet on the lawn. The family spirit still lives on, courtesy of a close-knit team of staff, who join in games of croquet on the lawn. Orestone is a gem of a classic country house hotel with just 14 character bedrooms. This year it opened two sumptuous coach house cottages, each equipped with separate lounge, private outdoor hot tub, and fabulous sea views. Upstairs the living room features a comfy sofa and widescreen TV, making it the perfect media room. Open the bi-fold doors to the balcony for far reaching views over Lyme Bay and the surrounding countryside. Meanwhile the local area enjoys its own microclimate and Orestone Manor’s sun terrace, surrounded by palm trees and lush gardens, has to be one of the finest spots of the English Riviera.

Lopesan Costa Meloneras set for silver screen debut
Wild Oats is premiered next month in cinemas around Gran Canaria, having been filmed in the location, starring leading Hollywood actors Shirley MacLaine, Jessica Lange, Demi Moore and Billy Connolly, along with Spanish film stars Santiago Segura and Toni Acosta.

Many locations on the island, among them the Lopesan hotel chain, will feature on cinema screens around the world, in a comedy that tells the story of a widow, played by Shirley MacLaine, who decides to travel to Gran Canaria with a friend, played by Jessica Lange, to live her dream, having mistakenly received a $1 million policy pay-out. During their stay at the Lopesan Costa Meloneras, our heroes get tangled up in a web of fraudsters and dangerous situations.
Although the Lopesan Costa Meloneras had already been the muse of photographers and film-makers on many occasions, it was really the filming of this latest production that put it firmly on the cinema industry map, as a “top film hotel”. It was the first hotel in the Canaries to stage such a large scale production, as well as providing accommodation for a filming team made up of hundreds of people and a string of Hollywood actors, while also serving as one of the main settings for this great comedy.
More than two years have gone by since filming was carried out in an intense two month period in the summer of 2014. At that time, the hotel was transformed into

While the hotel was the ideal backdrop for many scenes, then so were several enclaves around Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which also left their mark in the film: these included streets around the historic district of Vegueta, the Columbus House Museum, the Hermitage of San Antonio Abad, the Gabinete Literario building, plus Maspalomas Beach to the south. Wild Oats serves as an excellent tourist promotional tool for the island, surpassing other film productions made in the Canaries, as on this occasion, Gran Canaria is a real life setting for this Hollywood film.

HOSPITALITY SECTOR PREPARES FOR EXPO 2020 IN DUBAI Between October 2020 and April 2021, Dubai will host the next World Expo. Bringing together more than 180 nations and an international audience of 25 million visitors, it will be one of the greatest shows on Earth. MORE INFORMATION The 2020 World Expo will not be confined to a physical site, or to a six month period of time. It begins now, wherever people are coming together to think about what could be. Expo will provide a platform to foster creativity, innovation and partnership globally. Dubai aims to work with others to accelerate the development of cutting-edge solutions, and scale them up so that they have a reach and value that stretches far beyond the event itself. Find out more at www.expo2020dubai.ae or visit Dubai on stand ME200.

Hospitality sector prepares for Expo 2020 in Dubai
On a 438 hectare site, connected to three international airports and a dedicated transport network, Expo 2020 will provide visitors with the chance to see spectacular architecture, merge with global cultures, examine thoughtful and thought provoking exhibitions, and taste food from every corner of the globe. Above all, visitors to the event will witness the very latest in thinking and technology all in one place and at one time. Expo will be an unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience. Dubai is preparing for an event that will enthral and amaze the many millions who visit, providing a sense of wonder at the ability of people, working together, to envisage and achieve a better tomorrow. The world is an amazing place. It is also changing, as the population grows and ages, and technology reshapes economies and societies. By 2020, this planet will be home to 7.7 billion people. For the first time, almost two thirds of them will be members of the global middle classes. Fewer than 800 million of them will be living in poverty (on an income of less than $2 a day). People can now access the internet, via their smartphone, to search for almost everything known to humanity and then share it with anyone else. People are using technology in new and exciting ways. For example, to teach students hundreds of miles away, unable to receive anything more than a basic education. New ideas open up new possibilities.
93
Expo 2020 Dubai is guided by the belief that innovation and progress are the result of people and ideas combining in new ways, which explains our theme: ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. For six months, Dubai’s Expo will play host to hundreds of countries, companies and people who bring insight into what is possible in the spheres of opportunity, mobility and sustainability. Millions of people from around the world will be able to share an experience that has one aim: to contribute to building a better future. Dubai’s Expo will be a festival of human ingenuity. The engines of growth are no longer steam-powered. Instead, collaboration and partnership have taken its place, becoming the driving force behind new developments. Expo will showcase and explore what is possible when new ideas and people connect.
HOSPITALITY In the hospitality sector, Dubai, a city known for its worldclass hospitality industry and landmark hotels, is training its focus on mid-market hotels in a bid to attract a larger percentage of the millennial and family travel business. With Dubai’s transformation from a luxury and business-centric city to a more mature destination attracting a diversified tourist profile, the move to increase the city’s mid-scale room stock aligns with the requirements of the millennial and family travel segments from emergent markets such as China, Africa, Brazil and India.
In addition, with the emirate targeting 20 million visitors per year by 2020 and with the upcoming arrival of mega projects such as Dubai Expo 2020 and a number of world-class theme parks, it is imperative for Dubai to scale up its accommodation options. “The newly affluent midclass segment in developing countries such as China, Africa, Brazil and India have sparked the development of more mid-market options in Dubai.A recent study by PwC shows that young travellers from Asia and Africa, even those who can afford luxury, are opting to stay in affordable hotels as they tend to value experiences over five-star accommodations. This shift in focus among a powerful travel segment has presented a host of opportunities to investors in the GCC hospitality industry and helped to diversify our tourism offering to fit more developing source markets and groups,” stated Issam Kazim, chief executive, Dubai Corporation for Tourism & Commerce Marketing. Millennial travellers represent 20 per cent of international travellers at present and are expected to undertake 320 million international trips per year by 2020, offering longterm opportunities to cities that cater to the needs and requirements of this itinerant segment. This, coupled with the increasing number of young families from developing countries such as India and China holidaying in Dubai, has led to an influx of value-based options.

BREAKING TRAVEL NEWS INVESTIGATES: SOCIAL MEDIA IN UK HOSPITALITY Leading hospitality providers undertake varied social media initiatives to engage with fans and build a stronger bond with them, alongside generating revenue for the company. The best pages provide real-time updates about the brand, its sponsorships, products and services, as well as special offers. Here Breaking Travel News takes a look at the best in class.

Among the leaders in UK social media is Manchester Airport, which has recently added Weibo and WeChat, the Chinese equivalents of Twitter and Whatsapp, to its range of tools in order to better communicate passengers from the destination. The moves comes following the success of the airport’s new direct flight to Beijing with Hainan Airlines, with almost 40,000 passengers having travelled the route since launch in June this year. Many of these turn to Weibo and WeChat to communicate with friends and relatives, and to interact with brands, so the airport has worked with Chinese digital agency, Red Lantern, to create and develop its presence on the channels. The airport not only plans to communicate with current passengers in Mandarin who use the route, but also with the huge Chinese population across its catchment area that spans as far north as Scotland, south to the West Midlands and across to North Wales, Merseyside and Yorkshire.
Breaking Travel News investigates: Social media in UK hospitality
Patrick Alexander, head of marketing at Manchester Airport said: “What better way to speak to a core demographic and our new passenger base than adopting the channels they know and love. Not only can we provide them with relevant airport and airline information, but by using their channels, in their native Mandarin, we can give added value and a better, more targeted, customer service.” Icelandairhas gone one step further and is offering passengers the option of booking their next transatlantic flight through Facebook Messenger. The Facebook Messenger Stopover Bot is the newest example of the rising trend in Conversational Commerce.Available 24/7, the new bot makes it easier than ever to book an Icelandair Stopover by bringing the point of sale directly to the customer, allowing passengers to book flights directly from Facebook Messenger. Guðmundur Óskarsson, director of marketing and business development at Icelandair commented: “We want to constantly improve the travel eco system for consumers, starting from the very beginning of their booking experience.Placing Icelandair ahead of the game and making flight bookings available through Facebook Messenger, marks the commitment to our customers. We know what platforms our customers use and want to embrace new ways to communicate and offer valuable interactions with them in that space.” With so much happening in the UK, London mayor Sadiq
Khan recently launched a major campaign to show that London is united and open for business and to the world following the EU referendum.#LondonIsOpen will show the world that London remains entrepreneurial, international, and full of creativity and possibility, while reassuring the more than one million foreign nationals who live in London that they will always be welcome, and that any form of discrimination will not be tolerated. The Mayor is urging all Londoners, organisations and businesses to show their support for the #LondonIsOpen message via social media, through other creative ways. The starting idea for the campaign is built around London opening its doors to welcome people in, and will encourage people to use this as a platform for their own contributions. A film of famous locations opening their doors has been produced. Khan said: “London is the best city in the world. It is creative, international, entrepreneurial and full of opportunities.I’m incredibly proud to be Mayor of a city that’s so comfortable with its diversity and so optimistic about its future. We don’t simply tolerate each others’ differences, we celebrate them. Many people from all over the globe live and work here, contributing to every aspect of life in our city.We now need to make sure that people across London, and the globe, hear that #LondonIsOpen.”
