2022 IDEA BOOK
About Valley Patio & Deck The seeds of Valley Patio & Deck were planted with our owner and founder, Daniel Bougher, at 14 years old mowing lawns in his neighborhood. His market reached as far as he could walk with his lawn rake and forest-green, Craftsman push mower. From an early age, Daniel like many employees at Valley Landscaping, had a love for the outdoors no matter if it’s 100-degrees or 20degrees. It doesn’t matter either if it’s raining, snowing, or sleeting – that just makes the nice days more enjoyable. Daniel earned a nice income as a teenager and put his lawn mowing business on hold while pursuing his degree in Business Administration with hopes of working as a portfolio analyst at one of the top investment firms such as T Rowe Price. Graduating at the height of the Great Recession in 2009 and looking for work in finance was a formidable challenge. He did land a job in planning and then went on to travel around the world working for event companies, marketing firms, and agricultural societies in Australia and Asia.
Upon his return to the states, Daniel realized that the one thing he cared about and always enjoyed, whether it was being outdoors, solving tough challenges, or seeing a landscape design come together – it was building a successful business that involved working with clients who shared a love for creative outdoor living. Today, Valley Deck & Patio has grown into a successful company serving residential and commercial clients in Howard, Anne Arundel, and Baltimore County where the Valley team share their passion for creating innovative solutions and designing beautiful outdoor spaces for family and friends to enjoy. Whether you are looking for decking, patio, landscaping, or fencing, we’re here to help. We love our work, and we are excited to share a few of our projects for inspiration as you explore ideas to create your outdoor living space.

What was once a dirt backyard is now a family’s oasis. Perfect while enjoying a morning cup of coffee, a glass of wine in the evening or just a place to enjoy family and friends throughout the year.
The fire feature with seat wall, low-voltage lighting, and raised patio all come together to create a picture-perfect setting. A simple landscape design around the patio softens the feel and adds color.
This backyard getaway is the ideal outdoor living space. With the pool as a centerpiece, paver decking was added along with meticulously installed footers for pavilion construction and boulder steps leading to a beautiful fire feature surrounded by irregular pavers giving the space a natural and inviting look and feel.
What was once a concrete slab and crumbling brick wall is now a beautiful, twotiered patio for kids and grandkids to enjoy. We are particularly proud of this project after spending time with the homeowner carefully reviewing the designs and various options to ensure we exceeded her expectations.
A gazebo with patio created the perfect outdoor space for a growing family to enjoy for years to come. Notice the sailor course pavers outlining the field of pavers and how the colors match the roof of the gazebo.
When the homeowners’ wedding plans were postponed due to the pandemic, they instead celebrated with this custom-made, stone veneer fire feature. A perfect wedding gift for friends and family to enjoy too throughout the year.
With the holidays approaching, the homeowners wanted to turn what was a boring front yard into an inviting and vibrant home. A custom design was created right before the client’s eyes. Within a few days, the yard was alive with columns of shrubs accenting the driveway and beautiful textures leading to the door to create a welcoming space.
In the backyard, a natural stone wall and steps were added to create an idyllic focal point that leads to a pond and tennis court…
…And in the front yard, two spiral shrubs highlight the entrance.
From the beginning, the clients had a vision for a fire feature that offered a getaway as well as privacy for entertaining. Notice the herringbone pattern in the main area and stylish Hexa pavers that invite you to sit back against the seat wall and unwind by the fire on a cool evening. As soon as we were finished, the client had a gals night in their new outdoor space.
Just about any backyard, can be transformed into a space for family cookouts or just lounging with a good book on a beautiful stone patio. The natural colors in the patio along with the textures in the stone wall create a space unlike any other.
You don’t need a lot of space to create something special. This double-curve patio with circular inlay surrounding the fire feature accentuates the artistic outdoor design. Notice the landscaping against the house to give the space an open and natural look.
These Techo-Bloc Villagio pavers blended with Champlain Gray and Chestnut colors created a classic cobblestone look to give this backyard patio and decking an “oldworld” feel with all the modern, relaxing comforts every homeowner desires on a summer evening.
What was once crumbling concrete, now sets a full-color, Pennsylvania bluestone with thermal-top finish walkway. Notice how both the pattern and the colors give the walkway a natural look.
An old deck and concrete pad were torn out and replaced with a tiered patio for a family and their two young boys to play, roast marshmallows and enjoy their backyard. The two tiers created two entertainment zones, both of which lead into separate entrances to the home.
Need some privacy quickly? Dozens of “Green Giants” measuring about 12-14 feet in height were lined to create some natural screening as the homeowners added a new pool and cabana to their backyard getaway. The 20’ Norway Spruce trees in the front yard blocked a view of a neighboring driveway.
A favorite for many homeowners, a fire feature, stone patio & wall creates the perfect setting for any gathering at your home. Perfect for cookouts, catching up with family or just a place to relax.
Like many during the pandemic, this homeowner wanted more space for grilling and smoking his favorite dishes. The pavers have a unique bluestone hew that mimics the color and texture of stone without the cost. Each corner is capped with seat walls and lighting to create an inviting and relaxing space.
This is outdoor living at its best – all transformed with a stone patio and fire feature. There is no limit to the enjoyment you can have for years to come in a setting like this one.
A poorly installed patio had to be removed before we created this outdoor space with Pennsylvania bluestone with thermal finish that can be enjoyed for years to come.
This older home went through a complete landscaping makeover that included new trees, deer-resistant shrubs and flowers, new lighting along the walkway as well as stone accents.
An old backyard deck was replaced to create a patio and fire feature area that can be enjoyed by friends and family throughout the year.
Previously installed pavers with little foundation had to be removed before we created this outdoor grilling haven. Under the two-tone gray pavers is a combination of #57 gravel base and 2-in screen of #8 gravel to ensure stability and durability.
The native species and the variety of colors and textures all combine in this design to create a small, but flourishing landscape.
A hillside slope created stormwater run-off problems and much of the yard was unusable. This newly created patio with fire feature and retaining wall transformed the space into an area for parents to relax while kids play on the deck to create more room for everyone.
This beautiful, yet functional stone walkway and wall created muchneeded space for the homeowners to get in and out of their cars without spending a fortune on a new driveway.
Pavers such as this one, when set on a properly prepared foundation, are stronger and more durable than concrete due to their thickness ratio – and they are far more appealing!
A perfect blend of nature and design come together in this homeowner’s backyard to create a scenic and elegant patio area.
This natural sloping walkway replaced old stairs, so it is more easily accessible. The thermal finish Pennsylvania bluestone along with a newly installed stone wall and landscaping gives the home plenty of curb appeal from any angle.
