I take those experiences as an encouragement. I actually have a gig tonight where one of the students I did songwriting mentoring with at Kincumber High school is playing on the same bill, that’s pretty cool.

There’s an absurd number of independent musicians that call the Central Coast home. Do you think it’s a good place to be for an independent musician?

Absurd indeed. It’s a great place to call home ... Not always an easy place for an independent musician, I’ll admit, but an inspiring area to live in. It’s one of those things where you sacrifice a bit of sleeping time to drive home from a gig in Sydney at two in the morning but when you wake up here it’s all worth it.

Also, it’s pretty easy now to catch a train to the airport and fly interstate or overseas for gigs.

I really believe in travelling to play gigs. People appreciate your effort and you generally benefit greatly from the experience too. Live music
