Preface

Tio, das Tastenmännchen ist ein musikalisches Lesebuch für Kinder, das als Ergänzung zu einer Klavierschule gedacht ist. Es bietet von der ersten Stunde an Gelegenheit, die gelernten Fähigkeiten zu erproben und damit zu vertiefen und zu verankern. Die Schüler dürfen von Anfang an das schöne Gefühl genießen, schon ein klein wenig Klavierspielen zu können.

Tio, the Little Keyboard Man is a musical reader for children that was conceived as a supplement to a piano method. It offers beginners the chance to experiment from the very start with the abilities they have begun to cultivate, and thus to deepen and anchor them. Pupils get to enjoy the wonderful feeling of being able to play the piano a little bit already from the outset of their training.

Das Heft ist sorgfältig durchdacht. Die Stücke, so elementar sie auch sein mögen, wecken schon ein erstes Verständnis dafür, wie musikalische Botschaften lebendig dargestellt werden können. Es ist spannend für Kinder, ganz unterschiedliche Facetten der Musik kennen zu lernen. So kann es zum Beispiel sehr sinnvoll sein, wenn nicht alles „so glatt“, sondern manchmal sogar „furchtbar schief“ klingt. Auf Fingersätze habe ich bewusst verzichtet. Man kann alle Stücke mit den Daumen auf C spielen, es gibt natürlich auch andere Möglichkeiten, aber vor allem finde ich es schön, Fingersätze mit den Kindern gemeinsam zu erarbeiten.

The book was planned with great care. No matter how elementary the pieces are, they already awaken a first understanding of how musical messages can be vibrantly portrayed. It is exciting for children to become acquainted with a great diversity of musical facets. It may be useful, for example, to understand that not everything has to sound “smooth”, but can sound “terribly off” at times. I have deliberately omitted fingerings. One can play all the pieces with the thumb on C, although there are also other possibilities; above all, however, I enjoy working out the fingerings together with the children.

Viele Jahre Unterrichtserfahrung sind in Tio, das Tastenmännchen eingeflossen und ich verwende es schon eine ganze Weile mit meinen Schülern: Tios Stücke werden immer mit viel Lust und Neugier gespielt und das hilft bei den ersten kleinen Schritten auf dem Weg zum Erfolg.

Many years of teaching experience have influenced Tio, The Little Keyboard Man and I have been using it with my students for quite a while already: Tio’s pieces are always played with great delight and curiosity, and that helps young learners take their first steps on the way to mastering the keyboard.

Ab 1971 Klavierunterricht, Mal- und Zeichenunterricht in Frankfurt (Main). Musikalische Ausbildung in der privaten Klavierklasse von Waldemar Strecke, Frankfurt. Handwerklich-künstlerische Ausbildung in der Meisterwerkstatt Kalle Sippel, Coburg. Seit 1986 als Klavierlehrerin sowie freischaffend künstlerisch tätig in Frankfurt. Born in Munich in 1961, Kerstin Strecke began taking piano lessons along with instruction in painting and sketching in Frankfurt (Main) in 1971. She studied music in Waldemar Strecke’s private piano class in Frankfurt and underwent a training in artistic handicraft in Kalle Sippel’s master studio in Coburg. She has been a piano teacher and freelance artist in Frankfurt since 1986.
