Commissioned by the Francoise-Green Piano Duo
Isolarion III is a transcription and re-composition of my orchestral work Isolarion: Rituals of Resonance (2013), which was itself an elaboration and expansion of an earlier brass quintet. This piece reduces what was a highly embellished, ornamented and colour-driven score to its essential constructive elements: lines and layers, which collide and cohere in a mercurially flowing continuity. The first movement of the orchestral version was dedicated to Pierre Boulez, who had commissioned work Isolarion: Rituals of Resonance through the Lucerne Festival Academy. In light of the recent news of his death, I dedicate this piano duo to his memory.

Auftragswerk des Francoise-Green Piano Duo
Isolarion III ist eine Transkription und Neukomposition meines Orchesterwerks Isolarion: Rituals of Resonance (2013), das selbst eine Ausarbeitung und Erweiterung eines früheren Blechbläserquintetts war. Dieses Stück reduziert die stark verzierte, ornamentierte und farbige Partitur auf ihre wesentlichen konstruktiven Elemente: Linien und Schichten, die in einer fließenden Kontinuität aufeinanderprallen und zusammenhängen. Der erste Satz der Orchesterfassung war Pierre Boulez gewidmet, der das Werk Isolarion: Rituals of Resonance durch die Lucerne Festival Academy in Auftrag gegeben hatte. Angesichts der jüngsten Nachricht von seinem Tod widme ich dieses Klavierduo seinem Andenken.
