OLD SCHOOL STYLE

Amo paired paisley and personal accents for his wedding to Alicia at The Headland Hotel in Newquay

“I was keen to go for an old Hollywood vibe,” explains Amo. “I wanted a classic dinner suit but with a unique element, so I selected a blue paisley silk fabric. There was a slight mishap when the suit was made in the wrong fabric, but thankfully it was only a slight difference in pattern and still looked epic!” A series of carefully considered finishing touches completed his luxe look, from his Rotary watch and watch cufflinks to his initials embroidered on his cuffs and deep crimson buttonhole.

Your wedding attire is an opportunity to stamp your personal style on your day – and more and more grooms are getting creative with their ensembles and wearing something special for their big moment. Whether it’s a cool cut, bold colour or luxe fabric – or details that reflect their personality or relationship with a loved one – many grooms are personalising their look with touches that say something about them. Your wedding attire is also an opportunity to build on the aesthetic of your day, from a classic dinner suit for a timelessly elegant wedding to light pastels for a laidback, summer celebration. From traditional to contemporary, these grooms didn’t skimp on style…

It was all in the detail for Declan who married Joi in a relaxed celestial style wedding in St Ives

“I wanted my look to be a bold modern take that showed a bit of my personality, while still being smart,” explains Declan. “My Twisted Tailor suit was perfect: from a distance it looked plain black but, up close and when it caught the sun, the geometric pattern really stood out. My buttonhole was made with local wildflowers from Cornish Cutting Garden.

I wore a smart dress shirt with a black waistcoat to differentiate myself slightly from the groomsmen but we all wore the same pink tie to match the theme. I wore a celestial tie clip that matched Joi’s earrings as I wanted to have something in common with my beautiful bride. My Ted Baker shoes were nothing too fancy on top, just black, but the soles were pink for another flash of colour.”

THE LIGHT SIDE

In keeping with their relaxed boho theme and pastel palette, Aidan opted for a pale pink suit for his wedding to Naomi at Brickhouse Vineyard

“Initially I was very indecisive about a suit for our wedding day,” says Aidan. “I knew I wanted a light colour that fitted the theme. My groomsmen were always going to be beige, and I wanted to stand out and wear something different. Naomi found the light pink suit and, while I was a bit sceptical at first, it looked great on, and I loved how all the colours came together on the day.

I wore a white satin tie, a white fitted shirt and white loafer style shoes to complete the outfit. My buttonhole and some personalised gold cufflinks from Naomi finished the look. I would describe my wedding day look as fresh and clean.”

From tartan to tuxedo, Tobias drew on his heritage, personal style and favourite finishing touches for his wedding to Hannah at Trevenna

“For our ceremony, I wore my full weight Kennedy tartan kilt,” says Tobias. “I’m Scottish on my mum’s side and proud of my heritage. Considering mine and Hannah’s surname is a double barrel of my English and Scottish roots, it seemed fitting to wear my kilt with pride. I modernised the look with a Glen Orchy charcoal tweed waistcoat and jacket along with a white shirt, bow tie and gold cufflinks, which Hannah had bought for me as a wedding gift and had engraved with my initials. To keep with the more modern theme, I went for charcoal kilt socks and black leather shoes – something more plain as opposed to the traditional brogue. To finish the ensemble, I wore a bespoke leather and tweed sporran handmade by my dad. It was a great mix of modern and traditional Scottish.

After our ceremony, I changed into a classic tux. I kept this look traditional with the white shirt, bow tie and cufflinks, a subtle black leather belt and a statement lug sole horsebit leather loafer. As men we often get a little left behind when it comes to accessorising, so I’ve always been a fan of a good shoe. I wore my favourite watch for our entire wedding day: a chunky gold piece from Armani. Hannah bought it for me quite a few years ago and it’s the first lovely thing I ever owned.”
