Interested in unfolding the courthouse program, creating a system of interconnected, nested shapes, each with their configuration and program language. By stretching and reconfiguring the different functions with their respective objects, we created active interstitial spaces between them. These volumes are non-programmatic and allow for interesting transparencies and intersections of public and secure zones. From the outside, the ‘nested’ objects are still visible. However, sheathed in a coat of tessellated glass, the internal shapes now shift in and out of focus. The refractions of the layered internal objects create complex visual moments. The internal platforms, separate from the skin, are manifested on the facade as lines - flat, virtual features that interact with the depth of the layered visual effects.

VISUAL STUDIES Through the process of coding a series of ariel images ,still images, and interiors where transformed into moving images. In which the new images where controlled by a series of actors distorting the images while another set healed the image. Creating a new image which refrences the past images while blurring them into new coherancies. These images then became the catalyst for a series of black and white images which where the again modified through a series of projections.

Adv. Tectonics Derived from the Muse De Kulteron by Herzog de Meuron. The project was based on the idea of extracting the main characteristics into a smaller chunk to begin to understand the tectonics of the project. Through this slightly altered design scenario, the reorganization of the tectonic reality of the project allowed us to study a novel set of formal, geometrical and technological associations. The result becomes a set of drawings as well as a model that can re-inform the tectonic origins without diminishing the original performance.

Final Structure

STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS The initial form began just as in the Mannheim Multihalle however rather than using a chain model the form was found through a series of calculations. Within the diagrams, the numbers relate to the degree each point is from equilibrium. Through a series of tests, I eventually ended with the vaulted form, which is in equilibrium. From there the form is vaulted into a self-supporting structure as in the Mannheim. The type was chosen due to its open qualities allowing the stadium to open up to multiple forms of an entrance as well as new ways to view the game. The structure of the vault was increased by adding a large truss across; this would also act as a bridge for public circulation. In this way, the Vault can act as a buttress to the primary truss. Rather than the Mannheim, which was constructed of wood, the choice of steel was chosen for the long span of the structure. Similar to the Mannheim the lamellae attach to a concrete base. Filling in the lamellae structure is a glass panalization similar to the British Museum by Foster and partners. The usual sleek exterior is reversed by placing the glass on the interior, therefore making the interior seamless and enhancing the game day experience.

Robotic injection

BIO DESIGN CHALLENGE Tasked with the challenge of envisioning the future of biotechnology. We created Muta a living wall that can be attached to any structure as well as could provide multiple benefits for the user. The wall which would be built up of a composite material would allow for the growth of various organisms such as lichens. Which could then not only perform tasks such as absorption of heat, active tracking of co2,the transformation of co2 into oxygen, and even going as far as producing medical supplements. To regulate as well as control organism growth a robot continuously scans the wall as well as becomes the injection point for new organisms.

Combined Model

STUDIO 01 Emulating the steeple architecture surrounding the site gives the new library a level of identification the old library never had with its low flat structure. The process of fracturing the tower allows light down into the lower levels as well began to differentiate the mass into different programs. The program is divided into the stacks in the tower, reading rooms in the cantilever and a public forum lifted off the street above the reading rooms. The complex layering within the glass monolith is through the use if multiple textures overlaying and interacting simultaneously. Allowing the buildings to become its full mass in some views while turning into a crystalline structure in others. Adding to this effect is another layer of ornament again generated through texture which contrasts the solid ornaments that dominate the surrounding buildings. With its long cantilever out the new library can take its surrounding context in as well as warp and change it. Its new reflections would then bounce light all around the site creating new patterns of ornamentation not just upon the existing library but also on the surrounding sidewalks and even painting the vast pantheon in a new light.
