Bendigo Community Bank COMMUNITY VENUES PREPARE TO HOST 2017 AFL INTERNATIONAL CUP A host of Victorian community and state football venues will welcome hundreds of the game’s newest participants when they host the 2017 AFL International Cup this month. Twenty-five metropolitan and regional locations have been selected to host the event which kicks off from August 5-19.

The AFL International Cup is played every three years, with season 2017 marking the sixth edition of the event. No expatriate Australians are eligible to play, with teams comprising solely of amateurs who must be nationals of the country they represent. Keep up to date with all the latest news from the 2017 AFL International Cup on social media using our official hashtag #AFLIC17

Of the 25 venues, eight high schools will host matches during the dedicated Schools Round, while three VFL women’s venues and a number of community football clubs will welcome teams to play as curtain-raisers to local suburban, amateur and country matches. Season 2017 will see 18 men’s teams and eight women’s teams compete for the coveted title with teams hailing from Canada, China, Croatia, Fiji, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Nauru, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Sri Lanka, USA. For the first time the men’s fixture will be played across two divisions. Division One will play four matches against other teams within the division and will then be ranked from one to 10 with grand finals to follow between the top two placed teams on the ladder, the third and fourth placed teams and so on. The men’s Division Two and the women’s competition will see teams split into two pools of four with each team playing matches against the three opponents in their pool before competing in semi-finals and grand finals based on finishing positions within the pool. The women’s grand final will be played at Etihad Stadium as a curtain-raiser to the Round 22 clash between Carlton and Hawthorn, while the men’s grand final is to be played at the MCG as a curtain-raiser to the Round 22 match between Collingwood and the Geelong Cats on August 19.

Football Preview A taste of finals action By Toe Punt

For weeks we have been talking about the showdown between Rosebud and Sorrento in the final home and away game of the season. It’s hard not to get excited about this match, however, there has been an oversight, given the Buds host reigning premier Hastings today. I guess the thought of Rosebud v Hastings isn’t as tantalising given the Buds did a number on them by 41 points in Round 7. But you can’t deny that it is the RPP Match of the Round and it can be heard today on 98.7FM from 2pm. Hastings has marched back into contention given it almost got the job done against Frankston Bombers three weeks ago and got within a point of Sorrento last weekend before eventually losing touch. The form line of the Blues in the past couple of weeks has been good; however, I still believe it is the fourth-ranked side in the competition. Rosebud has had an armchair ride since it went down to Frankston Bombers two months ago. In the past six matches the Buds have played Crib Point twice, Somerville, Tyabb, Rye and Pearcedale – that’s not an overly strenuous draw.

Today the Buds will be tested and my tip is their line of thinking will be ‘bring-it-on’. Given it failed its last big test, the Buds will be up for a match against the reigning premier. Buds’ coach Adrian McBean is a smart and experienced operator and he would have been gearing-up his team for the final six weeks of the year. Matches against Hastings and Sorrento and then a first final against Frankston Bombers (likely) are a great build into a tilt at the title. Everything seems to be travelling nicely for the Buds right now and Keegan Downie has 11 goals in the past two weeks. They have managed him well to ensure that he is at his best at the right time. Ben Dwyer is still the best ruckman in the competition in my eyes, given he can be a nuisance across the half back line, pushes forward and kicks goals and is great at ground level. No longer is there a reliance on just Greg Bentley and Ryan Spooner. Jack Jarman has taken his game to a new level and has found a high level of consistency, whilst the likes of Daniel Wilson, Sean Downie and Dale Stephens are fast becoming A-graders. Fletcher Hustwaite has also made the transition to being a solid senior footballer.

Football Preview They still need to be tested though – that’s the thing I’m looking forward to the most in this match. It’s easy to be a flat-track bully when you’re playing the weaker sides in the competition. The obvious question of Hastings is ‘how much is left in the tank’. They gave it their all against Sorrento last week and got a sniff, but fell in a hole in the last 10-15 minutes and couldn’t go anymore. Rosebud today will complete the Blues’ top three challenge. Last season in the finals we wondered when Hastings would run out of steam – they didn’t! They only got stronger! The Blues are playing some good footy but I’m not sure it’s going to be enough to beat Rosebud. In fact, I think Rosebud might make a bit of a statement today! One club that will be keen onlookers of this match will be Sorrento. The Sharks played their Round 17 game on Queen’s Birthday’s weekend against Rye and they both have the weekend off. The other two significant matches to be played this weekend are Crib Point v Red Hill and Pearcedale v Dromana. Both the Hillmen and the Tigers are locked on 36 points each, however, Red Hill is ahead on percentage by just .8 per cent.

Football Preview Whilst the four points are important takeaways from their matches, they both need to ensure they keep the scoring options of the opposition to a minimum while trying to score as heavily as they can themselves. Red Hill played Crib Point in April on a Sunday and beat them 17.11.113 to 5.8.48. Dromana played Pearcedale in Round 6 and whilst it came away with the four points, it conceded 101 points while scoring 132 themselves. This would not be a good result for the Tigers. The Tigers need to defend well and having Cosson and Ethan Johnstone across half back last week worked well for them. I don’t doubt Dromana will win, the challenge will be keeping the opposition under their average tally against of 78 points. Pearcedale was super against Tyabb last week and would love to make an imprint on the season and put a stop to Dromana’s run. Red Hill will be missing a few with injury, however, we know it is a hard team to score against. The challenge for the Hillmen is to try and boot 12 goals themselves. Jono Ross, Sean Holmes (should return), Chris Irving and Ben Hughes should ensure this happens. Devon Meadows almost ended Red Hill’s season last week and it will be looking to make like difficult for the Frankston Bombers today. The Bombers poleaxed Rye last week and will be keen to make another statement against the Meadows. In the final game, Somerville will be hoping to bounce back against Tyabb. The Yabbies were up for a while but seem to be on the back foot in the past couple of weeks. Somerville has enough firepower to walk away with the four points.

The under 19’s had a 20-point win last week against a competitive Rosebud outfit. Jacob “boogzie clunks” Collins gave the crowd their monies worth, taking a few absolute pearlers and converting them into goals. A baby faced Josh Fenwick created a good avenue out of the backline whilst a man they call Frisky held his own against alternating opponents. The U19’s will be looking to improve their ladder position this week when they face Red Hill. The reserves side went into their game hoping for an effort to match the last time they faced Rosebud. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be with the magpies going down by 112 points. A few Tim’s in “magic man” Malcolm and “Southy” put it good efforts. A glistening bald-headed man also took the field in Steve Espenscheid. Drawing comparisons to Peter Garrett, Steve was unable to put on the after burners and leave a few beds burning but it was an admirable effort nonetheless. It was a similar result in the senior side this week with the magpies going down by 110 points to Rosebud. Ben King was a good option for the team coming out of the backline providing a tall post. Brendan “captain” Phillips battled hard all day down back while Dan White also put in strong and repetitive efforts throughout the middle of the ground. With only two rounds left in the season the Magpies will be hoping to get a few wins this week for their last home ground performance.

We are playing for more than the Healy-Emond shield today with Dromana breathing down our necks after last week’s close shave. Three weeks in a row we have kicked in to the breeze in the last quarter. No one told Devon that we were the in to the wind specialists, and they came at us like men possessed. Only Blake’s point separated the teams at the finish, and we drove away from Glover Reserve thanking our lucky stars for the four points. Young Hayden Horscroft had a big initiation, given we were down a couple on the bench pretty early in the game. He makes the seventh U19 boy to play seniors this year, continuing our great record in producing local boys, given that several more have been blooded in the reserves. The Magoos did what they do best , and they prevailed quite easily. They have now put themselves in the box seat to get the coveted double chance. Although we played Cribby first in 1934, regular meetings began in 1969 when we joined the Nepean League Seniors. Lean pickings during the seventies saw victories few and far between, and we are still catching up. It should be a good day’s footy with the Unders (2nd and 3rd) kicking the day off. Needless to say both senior teams have it all to play for, and the Magpies would love nothing better than to spoil the party. Massive welcome to all the Devon Meadows faithful today as we play our last home game of footy for 2017.. Big challenge today against the Bombers. They say footy clubs are run on blood, sweat and tears - but it also takes a bucket load of money. It takes a lot of effort to run a footy club and generate the amount of money it costs just to break even year-in, year-out. In no particular order we need to thank the supporters, members, volunteers, bar staff, committee, trainers, coaches, players, sponsors, and especially those guys in the flouro every week - the runners (not sure what they get paid, but it’s not enough in my opinion). Looking ahead to 2018, we will again have our u/19s back in action which is very exciting and will bring back a fantastic atmosphere to the Saturday morning. Under the guidance of current u/16’s Coach Luke Harris, we can’t wait to have the young guys back on deck. So close, yet so far last week for the Seniors against final’s contenders Red Hill. 1 point margin hurts so much, but just goes to show again how much potential this current group has. With another pre-season under our belt, the consistency for 4 quarters and from week to week will gradually improve and we will start getting over the line in the close ones. Going to be a big one tonight in Flano’s Bar so stick around for a drink, grab yourself a raffle ticket and enjoy the atmosphere. Don’t forget our Major Raffle and Annual GF Breakfast. Another day at the footy & more dogs blown off chains with a similar forecast for today. While our supporters rug up & enjoy the best burgers in the comp, it’s pedal to the metal for the red & black today as points & % are the currency of ladder positions. The young Bombers had a strong win last week with Riggers snagging 5 up front & Wish, Joe & Tom controlling the midfield. Our midfield maestro’s are products of the Rover program and a great reflection of the skills & efforts of Pagey & Fults who helped develop these stars of the future. Ones got the job done with well balanced execution of defence and attack, great effort to keep the Demons to only 2 goals. Zac was a great target up forward, Mitch & Foxy good in the guts and Corey led the back six. Similar execution is required again today to keep our double chance guys! Bloody hell it’s tight in the 2’s with only % separating 3rd from 6th as we welcome the opportunity to improve our ladder position. Last week was terrific to kick a good score, helped with Kissy’s 5 & keep Rye to only the 3 goals. Donga, Mud & Benny T were in the best again. Our last home game is our “Love your Sponsor” round at Bomberland where we pay homage to our generous sponsors. Last week at Tractor Park the iPod Shuffle night showcased what is great about our club. Players, supporters and committee, new and old got together to have a good time. Thanks to Luke and Nick for their organisation of a great night. Congratulations to all of the winners (Dillon again with the best costume! Where do you get your ideas?) This week we welcome Dromana to the Dales for our last home game for the season. To celebrate this the Past Player and Officials of the Football and Netball Club are coming in for the day. Come in and have a chat with them. The Reserves will be having a function on the wing this afternoon under the Bank of Bendigo marquee. Get over and shout them a beer. The Club function season is hotting up. Hope you have all of the dates in your calendar. Donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t forget to get your Major Draw tickets for next Sunday 20 August, 1 to 4. This family fun day will be a great event. The girls team will be playing from 10.30. Come down early and support them in their last game for the season. Presentation Night Friday 15 September in the rooms. $30 a head or $50 a double. All teams will be presented. If you would like to Sponsor and present a trophy see Karen today. The Bays Eye Centre sponsor our game against Pearcedale today as we continue our quest to regain a spot in the final five. Our U19s had a slow start against top of the ladder Somerville and trailed by 40 points at half time. The second half saw a much better effort with Dromana outscoring Somerville, but, alas still behind on the scoreboard. Dromana Reserves have shown better form over the last couple of rounds and led all game against Somerville to record a well deserved 16 point win. Somerville were up for a concerted effort in the Senior game to keep their finals hopes alive and led by 9 points at the first break. However Dromana fought back in the second quarter to tie the scores at half time. In the second half Dromana gained ascendancy to lead by 13 points at the last break. The last term was all Dromana as we kicked 5 goals to 2 in the blustery conditions and the score line really didn’t indicate our dominance all over the field. We now trail 5th placed Red Hill by less than 1 percent after Devon Meadows nearly did us a huge favour. So big wins over the next two weeks are vital to us regaining a finals berth. Next Saturday will see our ‘Legends’ game following the Rye game. It will start at 6.30pm . Rory Gregg won the Major Raffle ticket that was on offer last game. You will have another chance next game. We are in the home straight with the last 2 games back at the nest! Today we take on Tyabb for the Bungower Shield. Today also marks Ladies Lunch and unfortunately the A graders will be a little late as they were unable to change the time of their game! Last week saw our 1s finals chances snuffed out by Dromana. The game was neck and neck all day, but in the final quarter Dromana pulled away kicking 5 goals to 2 in the last, to win by 32 points and put out any real chance we had of keeping our chances alive for season 2017. We suffered more injuries with Speeds and Tom Roberts unable to go back on in the last quarter. It just hasn’t been our year with injuries. The 2s once again undermanned, were knocked of by 14points by Dromana. It was great to see a number of the boys fly the flag for one of their teammates who was sniped in the 3rd quarter. With the u19s having a bye this week, hopefully they will have enough numbers to get another win before the season finishes. The U19s did enough in the last quarter to get a 5 goal win, with young Tippy bagging 3 goals. With 5 lads playing seniors at the moment positions will be tight come finals time. With another bye today it gives a chance for boys to play 2s or rest their bodies in preparation for their coming finals campaign.

We welcomed Pearcedale last round in windy conditions at Tyabb. It was Pearcedale who adjusted to the conditions better at both ends of the ground. Well done to u/19 John Bannan on making his senior debut and kicking his first goal in senior football. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s great to see many of our younger players being given the opportunity to play seniors this season. We take on Somerville today and will look to push them hard all day at Jones rd. The Bungower shield is up for grabs and a fierce effort is expected. The windy conditions of the last few weeks continued for the reserves. Kicking in to the breeze in the first quarter we were able to hold the opposition to one goal whilst also kicking one ourselves. With the wind we were able to kick 4 goals to none which opened up a handy break at half time. The third saw some of our best footy for the game as we defended strongly led by Clay and Chalmers. One goal to none into the breeze was a great effort. The last quarter saw us pepper the goals but not kick to straight unfortunately to run out 52 point victors and keep our finals hopes alive. A very warm welcome to all our guests at Olympic Park today – firstly to Hastings with whom we have built a terrific rivalry in recent years. Secondly, in the Social Rooms President Lachie will be hosting a full house exited by the opportunity to hear AFL Legend Peter Daicos – a big welcome to “Daics”. The Presidents lunch should highlight Lachie’s terrific work for the Club this year. On the field both our senior teams will be looking to continue to uphold the trademarks that have been on display throughout the season and the Unders will also be looking for a win to get some reward for their efforts. Our coaches, led by Adrian, have done a fantastic job of ensuring that all players know their role from the Under 19s through to the seniors and in giving plenty of opportunities to our young talent. Selections in the coming weeks will be very challenging indeed! Being our last game at home for the season it is timely to thank our amazing group of volunteers who collectively ensure that we can field our 7 football & netball teams every week and provide fantastic amenities for our supporters and visitors alike. We headed down to the Southern end of the Peninsula to take on the undefeated Sorrento, a bit of a daunting task at the best of times, the under 19,s put in a solid performance again, the great thing about these boys is that they may lack a bit of skill and polish, maybe a bit of size, but they donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t lack heart, they compete and contest the footy, and there is no doubt that these boys have massive amounts of improvement in them and they will represent the HFNC with distinction for years to come. The Reserves were simply undermanned against the strong Sorrento 2nds team,but had a crack all day so that is all that can be asked. The Seniors put in a great performance, their pressure on their highly fancied opponents was first class and it appeared to be paying off as the boys got within 2 points half way thru the last term, the fact that Sorrento kicked the last 4 goals and won by 28 points was not a true reflection of the game, considering we lost the first time around by 94 points it was a great performance on Sorrentos home deck! Stingrays Stingrays dominate, Pioneers fly away with the wind… The Dandenong Southern Stingrays completely blew away their opposition in its 89-point win against the Bendigo Pioneers on Saturday, which was played at Shepley Oval, Dandenong. The highly-rated Stingrays took up the challenge early, kicking with a howling wind to have the game won by the end of the first quarter, leading 51 to 0. Stingray’s coach Craig Black said the effort was nearly the best he had seen this year, something he and his players should be proud of.” “Our 17-year-old players lead the way on the day with effort, along with a few top age players, the team effort across the board was at the level required to play finals,” Black said. “We spoke after the game, that we are only a few games away the end of the home and away season and to play finals as a club we need depth of players in good form.” “Last week was really disappointing, as we let a few small things we rate ourselves on slip. We spoke to the players on Tuesday about effort, that it isn’t talent related but probably the thing that lost us the game.” “The TAC Cup is a development competition, today Bendigo played two 16-year old’s and a majority of 17year old’s for their development for season 2018- we also looked at the list for next year with 16-year-old Jarryd Barker playing his first game, along with seven 17-year old’s,” Black finished with. Captain Josh Bateman could walk away knowing he contributed on the day, with highly fancied 19-year old’s Tom Murphy and Mason deWit having solid games playing in numerous roles. Hunter Clark continued his excellent form taking best afield honours once again, whilst kicking a couple of goals along the way. Clark was superbly feed by 17-yearold dual Rucks in Riley Bowan and Bailey Williams all around the ground, with Williams once again soaring to the starts taking a huge hanger in the last quarter. Both 17 year olds are growing in confidence and ability, which may be scary for the teams yet to face the Stingrays in the coming weeks. Goals came through multiple goal kickers with the standout forward being Riley D’Arcy (4 goals) with his hand in many others along the way. D’Arcy has slowly been returning to his savage best after his mid-season appendicitis that saw him miss the opportunity to possibly represent Vic Country. There were 7 multiple goal kickers, with 10 individual players making up the season high score for the Stingrays- 5 of those being bottom age players. Bailey Williams kicked off the goals after 2 minutes of play in the 1st quarter, which started the procession of goals coming through Jamie Plumridge, Jai Nanscawen, Fin Bayne, Riley D’Arcy, Mitch Cotter and on the siren to Tom Murphy which saw the Stingrays lead 51 to 0.

The second quarter Black has prepared his team knowing the Pioneers would take their turn to hit the scoreboard, but the first inside 50 entry went to the Stingrays with 16-year-old Jarryd Barker kicking his first TAC Cup goal, which was quickly followed by another major to Jai Nanscawen. The Pioneers did take their turn and were peppering away before kicking truly and gaining three goals for the quarter, whilst the Stingrays added two courtesy of Mitropoulos and D’Arcy before the siren sounded giving the Stingrays a comfortable 56-point lead. The challenge was set to play four quarters of football at the long break, but wayward kicking and a revitalised Pioneers spirit saw the Stingrays kick six goals with the fierce breeze. They didn’t achieve what they wanted to do as they did in the first quarter in aiming to keep the Pioneers scoreless as they conceded 2 goals, but still won the quarter on the scoreboard extending the half time margin to 81 points. A lot of Stingrays magnets were thrown around at the last break, seeing Angus Paterson going for a run in the Ruck showing his more than capable of that position if needed. The trend continued with the Stingrays kicking the first goal to start the game, through Fin Bayne. This sparked Bendigo which saw them get back to back goals. The momentum was quickly stopped again with the game going into lock down mode which eventually saw the Stingrays walk away with the win, as well as achieving a four-quarter effort. The Dandenong Southern Stingrays next assignment is against Greater Western Region Rebels in two weeks’ time with a competition bye this coming weekend for the Vic Country Under 17 trial games. The Rebels game will be played at 3.30pm at Mars Stadium, Ballarat on Sunday August 20th, which is part of a triple header for AFL Victoria’s TAC Cup. As expected, it was a tough day out for the girls against some really strong competition. The U/17s had a week off, which saw our D,C,B and A girls take the court. D Grade- the girls put up a good fight and maintained their intensity for the full 4 quarters. Unfortunately we went into the first quarter break 12 goals down which we were unable to recover from. Overall a good game from the girls with awards going to Liv Geurts and Bree Compton C Grade- Again it was a bit of a slow start going into the quarter time break 10 goals down. The girls were able to work together to reduce Somerville’s scoring, eventually going down by 17. Award winners were Belinda Ingram and Elise Keane. B Grade- As expected, Somerville came out us with a lot of pressure and intensity. Despite the scoreboard, the girls had some great passages of play and some really strong defensive efforts. Awards went to Maggie Alford and Gabbi Peters. A Grade- We knew this was going to be a really tough game. The girls played a really strong 4 quarters and kept the pressure on Somerville the whole game. Again the scoreboard was not reflective of the intensity of the game. Award winners were Laura Hopkins and Clary Simo. With two games to go, all 5 teams are looking forward to taking on Pearcedale on Saturday and hopefully coming away with some wins! GO TIGERS !

Last week we made the trip down to Dromana and managed to come away with 4 wins! The D girls had a great win and showed that they are really starting to gel together and understand each other’s playing technique. They had some great runs down the court and they had strong pressure in defence. It was a treat to see Briony step out onto the court after 2 year off! The C team had a good fight against Dromana, their progress was on show and they were playing good, smart netball. The defensive pressure was awesome and their goaling rotations spot on, resulting in a good win for the top of the table position holders. After round 15, the B girls had a lot to work on which they executed well last weekend. Despite the slippery conditions the girls changed their attacking game and created some really effective passages of play. The B girls will be looking for 2 more wins in the lead up to finals to finish their season on top of the ladders. The A girls continued their undefeated season also with a solid win. Their defenders came away with plenty of tips and intercepts and their attackers drove hard and delivered the ball beautifully into the goalers. With 3 teams sitting top of the ladder, we will be giving our best efforts these next 2 rounds to go into finals in good form. Today we have our ladies day at the Nest, thanks to all the girls who spent time organising the event. See you in the club rooms for a drink or 8.. GO EAGLES!!

Sorrento Sharks Thanks to our sponsor this week prestige hino! The A grade and u17s did not have a game last week against Hastings. An amazing effort from every player on the court for C grade this week. Unfortunately we weren’t able to come home with a win but it was neck and neck most of the game. Amy played a great game in goals and was on fire with most of her goals going in. Defence were once again a stand out on the court, getting many rebounds and intercepts.The girls played a great game against Hastings this week the score defiantly didn’t reflect the game the girls have been training hard to learn new skills and drills and apply them to the game. This weekend they did just that. if only there were a more weeks left in the season because I can see loses turning into wins. All the girls played amazing with our defends setting up and working great together a big thanks to Chelsea Jen and Macey for holding back Hastings from scoring away. Our goalers a trying exstra hard every week to bend those knees and push shots in. I’m very proud of how far the girls have come this season congratulations all of you. One more game left let’s do it girls Rosebud here we come!

Rosebud Buds U17s – No game C-Grade – We came up against one of the strongest teams in the competition. We set ourselves a goal and we executed it to perfection. Watching on the sidelines was an absolute pleasure. Our ball movement down the court and into the ring was fantastic, we pounced on lose balls, defence was AMAZING! So proud of my team, I love you all! Awards – Haylee & Hollie B-Grade – It was a big game against Crib Point who were sitting second on the ladder. Nicole was coaching with Tracey away. Targets & expectations were set high, we needed to shut the extremely tall team down with pressure through our defence. We had some great plays throughout the game, especially into our shooters who had the difficulty of shooting in the wind. Best on this week was Shannon in C with continue pressure on her player and Leshelle with her blinder 4th quarter in WA. A-Grade – We started strongly again this week with a goal for goal first quarter against a quality outfit. Unfortunately we couldn’t keep up the intensity for the whole game, but we continue to take some positive steps against these quality sides. Awards – Darci & Tamara #HandsOffMPNFLFootyNetball! It was a successful day down at Crib last week when we welcomed Rosebud to the nest with 3 solid wins. C grade had a great first half which set them up for the rest of the game but after letting Rosebud slip back in during the third the girls pushed out the last quarter for a 17 goal win. BOC went to Rachel for a really strong game in GS against a tall defence. B grade also started strong getting them off to a great lead but fell into a really messy game getting the job done but not at their standards. The girls won by 31 but have plenty of room to up their game coming into finals. BOC went to Casey who goaled really well and directed the play well. A grade had another strong game winning by 35. The girls are sitting really well heading into finals and Coach Belinda is happy with the girl’s teamwork in getting the job done. BOC went to birthday girl Dionne for another flawless game. This week is our last home game for the season and we welcome Red Hill to the courts for what will be a tough 4 matches. Let’s aim for 4 wins and finish off the season in style. Go Crib!

Last round we welcomed Pearcedale for our second battle for the season. D Grade had a cracking start, taking a 1 goal lead at quarter time. The wind picked up in the 2nd which restricted the girls’ shooting ability. At 3/4 time P’Dale were up by just 2 however managed to extend their lead to 7 by the final siren. C Grade had their chances but were not able to convert frequently enough to have impact on the scoreboard. Jayde did her best to defend all over the court but P’Dales goalers were able to find too much space & shot accurately. It was a disappointing result in a match where Darcey celebrated her 100th match. A wonderful achievement from a hard working, passionate club member. Congrats Darcey! B Grade went into their match depleted of players & needing girls to step out of their comfort zone. Ky moved to the opposite end of the court &, in the move of the day, Liv went into GK in her season best performance. The match had ups & downs but after some stern words from coach Kiz at 3/4 time the girls put in an improved effort taking control of the game & winning the final quarter 14-1. It was a stellar match from the defensive unit in A Grade squad with Julia & Watto developing a better understanding each & every week. It will be great to see what impact they can have on today’s match as they take on fellow finals contenders, Somerville. It’s only the two matches being played as C and D Grade played Thursday night. Hastings Blues Our head coach decided to take a holiday and the netball division began to fall apart with 8 girls out over our C and B grade teams. It was pleasing to see this was not going to stop us with both teams really stepping it up this week. C grade took the court and turned it up a notch showing great defensive work and clear play into the goaling ring. It was a deserving win this week proving to the girls what they are really capable of. B grade were out to prove a point with only 7 girls to take the court they had to slog it out and play smart netball. We started out reasonably sloppy but soon turned it around with our high end defense shutting down their attack end keeping them to 12 goals for the game. Our goalers had to smarten up with the double tag on our GS Emma Smith but it didn’t stop us achieving a 50 goal win. Great outcome after a tough week and our head coach Karen Gay is no longer allowed to leave during the netball season!

C grade had it all under control from the get go Not letting Rye getting any free throws Abbey and Zen didn’t let anything pass in defence And our mid court pressure was nothing short of intense B grade wanted to cement a spot in the four And finished with quite a healthy score Luckily our two superstar shooters Tay and Chlo Were keen to put on a show All A grade want to do is sneak in front of Red Hill To do that they got past Rye with remarkable skill Cath and Em combined like they were separated at birth And Graceys Dad made it by half time for what its worth! This week we face another worthy foe When we face Devon at Devon probably in sleet and snow So lets get out there again and see what we can do And hopefully more wins we can accrue!!

Well done U/17’s on a good win last Saturday. It was close all game but our determination to get the points pulled us through in the second half. You proved that you can fight for a win so let’s take that through to the finals in a couple of weeks. The girls played a great game today with Grace strong in goal. Michaela and Ella created many turnovers and passed perfectly into the goalers. Evie and Laila were great in defence! We were strong throughout the whole game and it came down to the wire and ended in a draw. It was a terrific game to watch. Like D grade the C grade girls were fantastic. Millie and Abbie in goal! Saasha was awesome in WA and passed well into the goalers. Chloe M showed strength in defence. Down by 12 at 3 qrt time but we never gave up and had a terrific final qrt, unfortunately going down by 3 goals. I was very proud of the girls. B Grade were keen to get the points today and in very windy conditions did their best! Devon goalers were awesome and we just couldn’t convert as well. A tough game to lose only by two goal girls but so many players improved and gave their all. A costly win for the A Graders with injuries to both teams. Windy conditions kept the spectators cold but the intensity on court heated up. Both teams have improved over the season and played good netball today. With 2 injured Jesse F slotted in well and was integral to the overall win today! Big job ahead girls but as a team you are capable, so have a go!!

Under 17s gave it their all against a skilful Red Hill in what will be the last game for our season. If only we could convert all of our turnovers the score would be different. BOV Kate. It’s been tough, playing just 8 games for the season and especially with poor training attendance. But we have seen improvement in all the girls. D grade had a slow start on Saturday and the momentum was low across the court. But half time came and went and the girls picked up the intensity, working to come back after being down by 10 goals. The result was a draw meaning they hold their 4th spot on the ladder!! Boc Georgia C grade girls had a full team this week with a big focus to win the next three games. The girls started with fluent movement up and down the court. With great zone defence and hard driving we had a great lead. The girls did step off the pedal in the last quarter but still came away with a win. BOC Caity The B grade game was an evenly matched hard slog for all 4 quarters. To our girls credit they didn’t give up, they kept grinding away and making use of opportunity. It was a great team game with all 9 players contributing to a win. Now we focus on finishing the season with 2 more wins on the board. A grade always knew today was going to be tough challenge but to the girls credit they worked well in attack and even harder in defence. Last time we played Red Hill the gap was 30 goals and this time it was only 18. While it was not a win it was a great team effort. BOC Alana.

Pearcedale Panthers Back for another week to battle in the cold and the wind came our Panthers against 4 tough sides out at Tyabb. D Grade showed spirit, playing their first game without one of their key defenders who suffered an injury during the week. But this proved not to slow them down, with young Liv stepping in from the 17s squad and looking like she had been playing there all season. The girls played consisten netball, cruising home to a 7 point win. C Grade came out reeling from their loss against Rosebud last week which saw their captain and main goaler EmKate suffer a season ending industry. With the 17s again stepping in to fill the side they looked strong and put on a very convincing performance all over the court to deal Tyabb an 11 goal loss. Although extremely short handed, B Grade took to the court with good vibes and a positive attitude. They kept up with a well-oiled Tyabb side for most of the game but fell off in the last to suffer a 20 goal loss for the day. A Grade played with much gusto and heart and looked very good out there, although the competitiveness of the match didn’t quite convert to scoreboard pressure. Bravo to this young team who have come a long way this year and been competitive in almost every match we have played. With only two weeks till the end of the season our hearts and spirits are with all of our teams with finals chances- Go get ‘em gals!
