Only two weeks left for the home and away season and with still plenty of sides vying for finals positions it should be an interesting last two rounds. AFL Vic Country COMMUNITY VENUES PREPARE TO HOST 2017 AFL INTERNATIONAL CUP A host of Victorian community and state football venues will welcome hundreds of the game’s newest participants when they host the 2017 AFL International Cup this month. Twenty-five metropolitan and regional locations have been selected to host the event which kicks off from August 5-19.

The AFL International Cup is played every three years, with season 2017 marking the sixth edition of the event. No expatriate Australians are eligible to play, with teams comprising solely of amateurs who must be nationals of the country they represent. Keep up to date with all the latest news from the 2017 AFL International Cup on social media using our official hashtag #AFLIC17

Of the 25 venues, eight high schools will host matches during the dedicated Schools Round, while three VFL women’s venues and a number of community football clubs will welcome teams to play as curtain-raisers to local suburban, amateur and country matches. Season 2017 will see 18 men’s teams and eight women’s teams compete for the coveted title with teams hailing from Canada, China, Croatia, Fiji, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Nauru, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Sri Lanka, USA. For the first time the men’s fixture will be played across two divisions. Division One will play four matches against other teams within the division and will then be ranked from one to 10 with grand finals to follow between the top two placed teams on the ladder, the third and fourth placed teams and so on. The men’s Division Two and the women’s competition will see teams split into two pools of four with each team playing matches against the three opponents in their pool before competing in semi-finals and grand finals based on finishing positions within the pool. The women’s grand final will be played at Etihad Stadium as a curtain-raiser to the Round 22 clash between Carlton and Hawthorn, while the men’s grand final is to be played at the MCG as a curtain-raiser to the Round 22 match between Collingwood and the Geelong Cats on August 19.

Football Preview PYTHONS TO REGAIN VENOM By Simon McEvoy PINES go to CHELSEA today looking to resurrect their flagging Peninsula league season. On top of the ladder a month ago, the Pythons have tumbled to fourth spot after four successive losses – to Frankston YCW, Mt Eliza, Edi-Asp and Seaford – and the heat is now well and truly on. What began as a hiccup has turned into a form slump. But they can turn things around with a win over eighthplaced Chelsea. And, with Karingal to come in the last round next week, Pines could use these last two rounds to catapult themselves into the finals in winning form. So, what’s behind the Pines wobbles? The Pythons clearly have struggled to adjust to life without ace spearhead Aaron Edwards, who went down with a season-ending knee injury in Round 12. The stats tell the story. With Edwards in the side, Pines averaged nearly 15 goals a game in their first 12 games this season. Without him, the Pythons have kicked 6, 7, 9 and 6 goals in their past four games. It’s been left to Tim Bongetti to shoulder Pines’ attack. As good as he is, he needs a hand. Dale Tedge kicked four goals a fortnight ago and is more than capable, while Shane Waterstone (12) is the only other Pines player to have kicked 10 goals or more this season. Chelsea have been playing solid footy and will be keen to take a big scalp before the curtain comes down on their season. The Seagulls showed plenty of spirit to get within a kick of Mornington at Mornington last week, with Brad Clark continuing his good form and Curtis Bywater, Jason Clark and Simon Mitchelhill impressing. LANGWARRIN host FRANKSTON YCW in a bottom-versustop encounter that could be closer than many think. Langy have been impressive lately, winning two of their past three games and playing some slick footy. The Kangaroos had 15 scoring shots in the third quarter in their loss to Edi-Asp last week. With top spot wrapped up, Frankston YCW will be managing players ahead of finals, according to coach Wane Capp. Could that mean that YC could be slightly vulnerable today? Don’t bet on it. Langwarrin’s late season form burst has been fuelled by Luke Churcher, Matt Naughton, Andrew Borrie, Nick Tuddenham and Andrew Taylor, among others. Reliable YCW defender Christian Ongarello was superb last week, while the Stonecats are expected to bring in the talented duo Ryan Santon and Michael Debenham today, back from injury.

So, who wants to play finals? SEAFORD and EDI-ASP have a chance to thrust their hand in the air today when they meet in this crucial, top-five encounter. A win would definitely secure a finals berth for Graeme Yeats’s Eagles, while for Seaford it would go a long way to extending their season beyond next week. Seaford has done well to put its season back on track, winning its past two games against good opposition (Mt Eliza and Pines). But can the Tigers, with Matt Herbert, Josh Stokes and Kyle Matthews in cracking form, go to another level and halt the in-form side of the competition? The Eagles have strung together five wins and, in fact, have won eight of their past nine games. What’s more, they are kicking big scores and winning by big margins as Chris Wylie, Tim Mannix, Steve Mannix, James Hickey and one-time draft prospect Michael Bussey put their stamp on the comp. KARINGAL is coming off two very competitive losses against Frankston YCW (12 points) and Mt Eliza (20) when it meets second-placed BONBEACH. The Bulls have stayed strong and kept improving, led by Aisea Valetini, Grant Paxton, Michael Burke, Rhys Pierce and Jake Kelly. Bonbeach, beaten last week, will be keen to build up to their best form in time for finals. On Sunday, MORNINGTON gets a chance to put a dent in MT ELIZA’s finals hopes. The Bulldogs are sure to lift a notch against their arch rivals. Mt Eliza, though, should welcome the competition. This is crunch time for the Redlegs and if they can’t get past the Bulldogs then they don’t deserve to play finals. Mt Eliza has been inconsistent this season but they did beat Mornington with ease (by 10 goals) back in Round 3 when Ben Landry and Rohan Heasley dominated.

Football Preview SEAGULLS SIZZLE IN THE RESERVES... CHELSEA kicked its highest score of the season last week as it made it three wins on the spin. The Seagulls, with Stuart Brooke and Matt Mitchell in good form, are finishing strongly and will be keen to serve it up to finalsbound PINES. LANGWARRIN will give another competitive display but will it be enough to beat fifth-placed FRANKSTON YCW? Ladder leaders SEAFORD (15-1) host EDI-ASP, which returned to winning form last week when Lochie Brodie and Zak Bailey ran hot. MT ELIZA was back to its ruthless best last week and should account for MORNINGTON. KARINGAL bumps into a red-hot BONBEACH (11-5, third), which has been humming along with Matt Taylor, Joel Rippingale and Shelton Price shining brightly. LANGY SURGING IN THE UNDER 19s... It’s tight at the top, with Mt Eliza, Frankston YCW and Langwarrin separated by only two points. LANGWARRIN have won seven in a row to storm into flag contention, with Zach Andrewartha, James Longley, Josh Holloway, Liam O’Halloran and Bayleigh Tate performing consistently at a high level. Langy’s premiership credentials could be known over the next two weeks. They play FRANKSTON YCW today and then Mt Eliza next week. CHELSEA (2-14) hosts bottom side PINES, which has shown better form in recent weeks. KARINGAL, disappointed that its finals hopes are dashed, should be too strong for BONBEACH. SEAFORD hosts finals-bound EDI-ASP. On Sunday, fifth-placed MORNINGTON faces a good test against a red-hot MT ELIZA. Look for in-form Bulldogs Lachlan Mitchell, Jack Crawford and Luke Ambler to continue their urge towards finals.

Firstly, many thanks to all those who made the trip down to Mornington last Saturday. Not the best start to the day with an undermanned 19’s getting well beaten by a good side. Credit to these boy’s as there just keep turning up, best were Buam , King, Davis , Knowles & Mokaraka , let’s set ourselves this week for Pines at home. The 2’s had a great win partly due to 4 of our unders backing up , great work boy’s and you all iced it by playing well. Stevie rightly so was very chuffed , best were Brooke , Aarsman , Atwell , Patch and youngsters Ash Davis and King’y , 2 more winnable games lad’s. In the main game it was an arm wrestle all day with the Dog’s just hanging on , very disappointing as we really let another one slip . In patches we all had a go but at the and of the day we really didn’t have any clear winners on the day . Most important we need to regroup and set ourselves for the last 2 games . No doubt it has been a positive year and moving forward all the signs are good, we need to learn how to win again though ! Leadership is an interesting phenomenon in the world of sport and business. Many people talk about it. Some people write books about it, but very few practice it. Whether it is a supporter, player, sponsor, member or part of the coaching. Leadership is one of those things we all look for when times are tough in a club. So with the senior team in the finals and our future determined by ourselves, the reserves in the finals for the first time in years (and coming off a season where 20 goal defeats were regular), and a 19s team that provides so much hope, the thing that will make the remainder of the year successful will be determined by the extent our club has dynamic and resilient leadership. It is not something that anyone can claim but it is something that will be determined by the people that lead. Today will be a day where at the end of the day, win lose or draw we will continue to celebrate our improvement as a club. It will also be where we look at and be impressed by how well the leaders in the club stand up in adversity. Supporters will be judged by how well they have stuck through the bad times and stayed strong. Today all Pines people need to enjoy every positive moment and remember where we’ve been. It’s time to have leaders on every line, at every break, off the ground, providing the support, side by side and celebrating the final siren together. Time for all of us to be leaders.

Club Notes In the seniors, Frankston YCW showed why they are still the benchmark of the competition. It was great to see Gary Carpenter and Justin Bennett back in the Sharks Guernsey and get through the game unscathed. They will be better for the run leading into the next few weeks. A win against Karingal can lock a top-3 spot. In the reserves, Bully’s boys continue a remarkable mid-season resurgence. After 6 rounds we were 2-4 and a percentage of 73 (2nd last). After Round 16 we are 11-5 and 150% and locking in a top 3 spot is simply outstanding. There is a great belief amongst the group and everyone is playing their role. Ezekiel Turner is a star. In the U/19s, the boys improved on their first performance against Frankston YCW. In what has been a tough year on field, the boys have shown incredible character and Resilience that will put them in good stead for the coming season. Thanks again to the u/17 boys for your efforts this season playing with the U/19s and good luck in your finals campaigning beginning tomorrow. Well done to Timmy Mulholland on winning the longest kick and will represent Bonbeach in the finals for $500! Last but not least... congratulations to Kate Ackland on winning $5000 in our annual $5K draw on Sunday! Bouyed by recent wins and having shown a capacity to play well in windy conditions we headed to EdiAspendale with a level of confidence. Our mighty Under 19’s got the day off to a good start, with a win. Sadly however neither of our other two teams were able to score a win. The Reserves as always tried hard , showed spirtit and had good passages of play. Our Seniors were not able to capitilise on kicking with the wind in the first qurater and found the going tough from there. The third quarter saw us fight our way back into the game with Luke Churcher having his best game of the year. Other good players included Tuddy , Kieran and Red. Overrun in the last quarter we needed to have kicked more accurately in that vital third quarter. This week we take on Y.C. lets just get out there , forget about where we are on the ladder and play with some competititve performances. Rafflle : It is vitally important that all sold raffle tickets are returned to Kev at the club. Go Langy !!!!

Well well it’s penultimate round of the season and today we do battle with Langwarrin at Lloyd Park in 7 oval and round aggot contests encompassing both genders. Today one of our heroes Craig Nankervis plays his 250th Firsts game. This recent premiership veteran becomes the 7th Stonecat to achieve this. Cheers Knackers! The windy conditions continued last week at the Bonbeach Oval. In a danger game for the Ones, we motored home in the last stanza and won by 5 goals - we’ll take that up there!! Kyle Hutch was back to his bull dozing best, Ongers was impassable and Tony L and Wags continued their consistency. The Scoobies were jumped in the first half but, to their credit, won the second half to go down by 13 pts. James Bryant continued his stellar season whilst Jack M, Viney and Mitch R were solid. The Unders hit the turf running and ran away with game. Mac Hura was best again supported by Andy Kelly, Crackers and Dylan Preston. Sully bagged another 5 The Stonekittens bounced back with a clean sweep agin the Sharks. Read later on and see how Next week (the Chelsea game) we have the John Silvester (aka “Sly of the Underworld”) lunch where he’ll provide elucidation on matters criminal. Cost includes a two course luncheon and a two hour drinks package. And a diary note is needed for Saturday Sept 23 for Big Bash#2. Today we welcome Mt Eliza FNC to the kennel for our last home game of the season. Last week’s against Chelsea the senior game was a ripper, it was one of the games that supporters love, when Mick McGowan kicked a goal with a minute left on the clock the crowd went wild & we hit the front and ran out victors by 1 solitary goal. Josh Brown was great all day on a half back flank, while Warrick and Joel Miller continued their fantastic seasons, the big Wok finished with 4 majors. The Ressies gave it their all but could get over Chelsea. Scotty Doran was best a field with support from Jackson Weyne & Kyle Bird. It will be a battle against 2nd on the ladder Mt Eliza but they boys will give it their best. The Pups had a solid first half of footy that had us controlling the game and after half time the game opened up allowing us to have a convincing win and a good % win. At the other end of the ladder sits Mt Eliza today and we are looking forward to the challenge. A win today will consolidate us in the top 5 and playing finals so make sure you get behind the boys. Only one to go next week where we are away to EdiAsp then it’s back to the club for the $10,000 draw afterwards. Today we congratulate Ben Landry on his 150th and MEFNC Life Membership game. Langers started with the Junior Club in 1998, making his Senior debut in the last round of 2009. An accomplished left footer and hard working mid fielder, he missed the ‘13 and ‘14 seasons, whilst playing in Queensland. He returned in 2015 and has missed just 7 games in nearly 6 full seasons with the Redlegs. Good luck today Langers! Last week we took on Karingal and took the points in all games. Once again in blustery conditions, the Unders won narrowly. The first quarter was even but we kicked with the wind in the 2nd and held a 3 goal lead at 1/2 time. We led by just 3 points at the last change and in a hard fought final term the boys hung on to a 5 point win. Best were Max Rea, Jimmy Logan, Smally (Back from the Seniors), Oscar, Ricey & Jacko. The Reserves led by 5 goals at 1/4 time with the wind and by 6 at 1/2 time, restricting Karingal to just 1 goal. A 7.12 to 0.1 last half saw us back on the winners list by 89. Nugget booted 3 and Wetters and Buzz two apiece. Other better players were Josh Curren, Chesty, Ben Whitfort and Smaley. The Senior game started as a low scoring affair 1.6 to 2.0 in the 1st and we trailed by 3 points at 1/2 time. We kicked 6 goals to 1 in the 3rd to lead by 22 at 3/4 time. We kicked the first couple of the last to extend the margin to 5+ goals, before they kicked the last couple to reduce the margin to 20 points. Gorms booted 3 & Cappy & McKinnon a couple each, with other best players being Lombo, Stricko, Heasa, Lill & Tenno. Another big game today against the Dogs as we look to retain the Vosti Shield. Stingrays Stingrays dominate, Pioneers fly away with the wind… The Dandenong Southern Stingrays completely blew away their opposition in its 89-point win against the Bendigo Pioneers on Saturday, which was played at Shepley Oval, Dandenong. The highly-rated Stingrays took up the challenge early, kicking with a howling wind to have the game won by the end of the first quarter, leading 51 to 0. Stingray’s coach Craig Black said the effort was nearly the best he had seen this year, something he and his players should be proud of.” “Our 17-year-old players lead the way on the day with effort, along with a few top age players, the team effort across the board was at the level required to play finals,” Black said. “We spoke after the game, that we are only a few games away the end of the home and away season and to play finals as a club we need depth of players in good form.” “Last week was really disappointing, as we let a few small things we rate ourselves on slip. We spoke to the players on Tuesday about effort, that it isn’t talent related but probably the thing that lost us the game.” “The TAC Cup is a development competition, today Bendigo played two 16-year old’s and a majority of 17year old’s for their development for season 2018- we also looked at the list for next year with 16-year-old Jarryd Barker playing his first game, along with seven 17-year old’s,” Black finished with. Captain Josh Bateman could walk away knowing he contributed on the day, with highly fancied 19-year old’s Tom Murphy and Mason deWit having solid games playing in numerous roles. Hunter Clark continued his excellent form taking best afield honours once again, whilst kicking a couple of goals along the way. Clark was superbly feed by 17-yearold dual Rucks in Riley Bowan and Bailey Williams all around the ground, with Williams once again soaring to the starts taking a huge hanger in the last quarter. Both 17 year olds are growing in confidence and ability, which may be scary for the teams yet to face the Stingrays in the coming weeks. Goals came through multiple goal kickers with the standout forward being Riley D’Arcy (4 goals) with his hand in many others along the way. D’Arcy has slowly been returning to his savage best after his mid-season appendicitis that saw him miss the opportunity to possibly represent Vic Country. There were 7 multiple goal kickers, with 10 individual players making up the season high score for the Stingrays- 5 of those being bottom age players. Bailey Williams kicked off the goals after 2 minutes of play in the 1st quarter, which started the procession of goals coming through Jamie Plumridge, Jai Nanscawen, Fin Bayne, Riley D’Arcy, Mitch Cotter and on the siren to Tom Murphy which saw the Stingrays lead 51 to 0.

The second quarter Black has prepared his team knowing the Pioneers would take their turn to hit the scoreboard, but the first inside 50 entry went to the Stingrays with 16-year-old Jarryd Barker kicking his first TAC Cup goal, which was quickly followed by another major to Jai Nanscawen. The Pioneers did take their turn and were peppering away before kicking truly and gaining three goals for the quarter, whilst the Stingrays added two courtesy of Mitropoulos and D’Arcy before the siren sounded giving the Stingrays a comfortable 56-point lead. The challenge was set to play four quarters of football at the long break, but wayward kicking and a revitalised Pioneers spirit saw the Stingrays kick six goals with the fierce breeze. They didn’t achieve what they wanted to do as they did in the first quarter in aiming to keep the Pioneers scoreless as they conceded 2 goals, but still won the quarter on the scoreboard extending the half time margin to 81 points. A lot of Stingrays magnets were thrown around at the last break, seeing Angus Paterson going for a run in the Ruck showing his more than capable of that position if needed. The trend continued with the Stingrays kicking the first goal to start the game, through Fin Bayne. This sparked Bendigo which saw them get back to back goals. The momentum was quickly stopped again with the game going into lock down mode which eventually saw the Stingrays walk away with the win, as well as achieving a four-quarter effort. The Dandenong Southern Stingrays next assignment is against Greater Western Region Rebels in two weeks’ time with a competition bye this coming weekend for the Vic Country Under 17 trial games. The Rebels game will be played at 3.30pm at Mars Stadium, Ballarat on Sunday August 20th, which is part of a triple header for AFL Victoria’s TAC Cup. This week it is 2 v 3 when the Tigers take on the Eagles. Both teams won their respective games last week and two weeks out from finals – this is an important one. We know one thing – it will be an excellent game of netball to watch!

Chelsea V Pines The rest this week for the Pythons while their D, C & B squads head to Rowans Road to take on the Seagals. Chelsea are sitting fifth in B grade this season and are competing nicely – no doubt they will field an A grade side in 2018

Karingal V Bonbeach Karingal are at home at the Bullpit this week and welcome Bonbeach. Last week the Bulls knocked Mt Eliza out of the top four while the Sharks took a heavy loss against Frankston YCW. The Bulls should win this one convincingly.

Mornington V Mt Eliza Battle of the neighbours this week when the Doggies take on the Mounties and there is a lot at stake. A loss to Karingal last week saw Mt Eliza out of the four – while Mornington snuck on in by percentage. Both sitting on the same amount of points – this fight is to keep finals dreams alive.

Langwarrin V Frankston YCW Langwarrin only lost narrowly last week to Edi Asp while YC were victorious over the Sharks by 27 goals. This week is is 6 V 7 and with pride on the line – both teams will be hungry for the win.

Netball Notes Pines Pythonettes

Mt Eliza Red Legs

Last week saw us taking on the Tigerettes at our home court at Eric Bell Reserve. Our D grade girls knew we would have a close game and it didn’t disappoint. Our girls coming home with the win by 1 goal. BOC was a whole team effort. C grade score didn’t reflect how we thought the girls played. Some great plays down the court but our girls need to have a belief in their abilities and the confidence that they can match it with most teams. BOC Ash Guganovic. B grade came out firing and were determined to get the win this week after drawing last time against Seaford. A good result going our way with everyone putting in and having a crack. BOC Carla Hendry. Our A grade are pushing teams each week and making them earn their wins. They have improved immensely from last encounter and even though struggling with injuries we don’t give up. BOC Ashlee Boyle. This week just the 3 grades against Chelsea with A grade having a rest. Go Pythonettes

Mornington Bulldogs

The B grade squad are putting in a wonderful effort each week considering we only have 5 of the original team able to take the court due to injuries. Coming up against Chelsea is always a difficult task when they are not fielding an A grade side, they have strong – potentially A Grade players – littered throughout their team. But the Doggies are an impressive unit and gave a stellar effort regardless. Sarah Williams, Brigette Bell-Towers and Lara Sumner were once again welcome inclusions from C grade proving the step up from C grade is possible and shows the wonderful depth of our club. C grade had a great win today. We came back stronger and smarter from last weeks loss. It was mostly an enjoyable game to sit back and watch. Best on was Jacqui Eastgate. Rotating through goals and WA. Super game and well done Alex Shorthouse who also had an impressive game especially out on the wing. We won’t make finals but we will finish this season a strong and developed team. An impressive win by D Grade. This team continues to improve and impress. Best on was Steph, rotating through goals and the centre court, endless tips and intercepts with alot resulting in turnovers. Sam, also yet again went from goals to defence making an impact at both ends. We are still fighting for finals, with 2 games left, we need to nail both of them. It’s always a good competitive day with high quality netball coming up against Karingal & last week was no different. D GRADE got the day off to a great start. Determined to secure their finals spot the D grade girls came out firing with plenty of skill in show. Krystal has been dominating down in defence & Sam C added some great strategic play through the mid court this week. The girls moved the ball well down court & have really hit form at the right time. They took a 10 goal win (36-26) & are now 1 game clear in the top 4. C GRADE started slow, but built as the game went on, Steph did a great job both from an attacking & defensive perspective while it was great to have Sam back on court. Mandy took some great intercepts this week & was out hunting for majority of the game. The girls just fell short however going down by 5 goals (46-41), they now sit 3rd on the ladder. B GRADE were competitive for half the game this week, but just could not get a run on. Without a bench the straight 7 players worked hard, but just could not string together a whole quarter of quality play going down 59-34. Jamie played well this week while Di was strong in defence also. B grade sit 4th & are 3 games clear. A GRADE started slow but led at the first break 14 v 14, up until half time they really took it up to the Bulls. The Bulls high profile line up however was too good in the end with the Redlegs going down 47-65. Currently 5th on percentage we will be looking to secure 4th spot next week.

Langwarrin Kangaroos Round 16 saw us journey to Dingley to take on Edi-Asp. The conditions were very windy to say the least, and with all sides being undermanned we still had confidence in our girls to put up a fight. It was a top of the table clash in D grade with Edi-Asp proving to strong, taking the win. Although our girls fought hard they took a lot away from the battle to regroup and hopefully meet the during finals. C grade was a intense battle, with a few girls out sick we relied on a few top up players from D grade and they didn’t disappoint. A really solid 4 quarter performance saw us take the win against extremely tough opponents. B grade, last time we came up against Edi-Asp, they beat us quite convincingly by 39 goals. It was the same result but different story with our young B grade side only going down by 15 goals. It just goes to show that our young girls are going in the right direction. A grade was a great battle, although again missing regular players, we fought hard all day, and were right in it, but unfortunately an on court injury in the 3rd quarter to our young defender Emily saw her sidelined for the rest of the game. We continued to fight hard but couldn’t take the lead and eventually going down by 5 goals to last years premiers. It is really good to see the improvement of all sides on the weekend. Next week we take on YCW at home. We expect, again, all grades will be a great battle! Go Roos

Seaford Tigers

Lyshae Barry made club history being the first ever player to play 100 senior games on Saturday and her team mates were determined to get her a win. The second quarter the girls were able to break away a bit applying exceptional circle defence keeping the opposition to just 3 goals. The team never tooktheir foot off and continued to play short and sharp and showed patience enabling conversion of turnovers. BOC goes to Boults who absolutely dominated in defence! B grade girls also had a solid 44 goal win. The team set themselves several goals and managed to achieve one completely and others partly. There was awesome defensive effort not only in the goal circle but all over the court keeping Bonbeach to 6 or less goals each quarter. BOC goes to Liv once again whosetretch and pressure over the shot was second to none. C grade girls worked very hard today in what was a tough day at the office! There was some great play across the whole court. The defensive pressure was strong against a tall shooter and the mid court worked hard to get the ball into the ring for conversion. BOC goes to Max for her continued effort in GK. D grade also had another outstanding win with attackers having more success with fast, accurate passes to goalers and lots more communications on court. BOC goes to Sophie for a solid defensive game with a ridiculous amount of rebounds, intercepts and tips! What a great way to celebrate a great milestone with 4 wins against Bonbeach!

Rd 16 - Tiges v Snakes A round of mixed emotions. We thought it would be nice for both teams to have the winning feeling and we split it evenly giving 2 wins to each club. Our D grade girls had a fierce match but unfortunately went down by just 1. C grade were up next and came through with the goods. Shout out to Maddie Hart from our junior club Cameos, who filled in for c grade and certainly held her own with both teams commenting on her dominance in the goal ring. B grade had a see-saw game. We were level at 3/4 time but fell asleep in the last whilst the Pines girls Usain Bolted it to the finish line. But all that matters is we had fun and we will take that positive spirit into our last two games and hopefully build our team confidence for 2018. A grade made it hard work for themselves but snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. The say the 3rd quarter is the premiership quarter and without our 12 goal turn around we would of been in strife. A game like this was necessary finals prep for the girls to prove to ourselves we are capable of pulling ourselves out of any hole we dig. While I wish I could say the girls spent many hours at the shops buying their “costumes” for Bogan Bingo on Saturday, most just wore things out of our every day wardrobe.. This week we take on Edi. Our netty finals hope lay with our A grade girls who this week will fight for that 2nd spot on the ladder. Grit your teeth and dig deep girls! GO TIGES!!

Chelsea Seagulls

It was a lovely, sunny, crisp morning when we matched up to Mornington in round 16 last week. D grade had a very disapointing loss. We started off strong, however Mornigton were just too good and used our many turnovers to their advantage. A big shout out to Emily Close who played her last game for us before her move interstate. We will miss having you on court Em and we wish you the best of luck!!! The c grade girls entered the game on a high and were ready to play. Mornington pushed them to a 2 point lead at first break. The second quarter saw Mornington fly out to a 9 point lead where a huge change had to be made. Sallie was a key change into defence and made their skilled goaler work for the ball. Lexie also played a ripper game in goals. Sadly, however, Mornington were the better side on the day. B Grade girls got off to another flyer. It was nice for the girls to prove they are just as strong when the team needs to shuffle positions. Dana’s goals were on point. Lisa was best on today with her perfect passes down the court and into the ring! Great to get the win! We’re looking forward to Round 17. All three netballs teams are hungry for another win against the Pines!

Over the last six weeks we have battled with major injuries, sickness & holidays & even our coaching staff have been away for two weeks! This week we welcome back most players & coaches & just as well as we play a season defining round against Seaford at Linen House. At least it won’t be windy but we do expect some fantastic netball as the Tigers are roaring so make sure you’re court side to give the girls some vocal support! Netball Notes Karingal Bullettes

Last week we headed to Toorak College to take on Mt Eliza. Each squad knew they were in for tough games and D grade started off as just that. The girls were neck and neck with the Redlegs until half time when Mt Eliza took control and a healthy lead. Gab did extremely well in GS for a defender. Briony was best on in the other goaling position. Disappointing loss and finals hope is out the window. C grade narrowly beat Mt Eliza the last time they met and were prepared for another close one. They started off in explosive fashion again - Dani and Steph were not missing anything while the youngsters in the mid court provided a lot of drive. Elise moved into GK for the final quarter and teamed up with Mel proving to be unstoppable. A nice win! B grade was far more comfortable - taking away a nice victory! Emily and birthday girl Nadine were flawless while as always the silent assassin Mel proved unbeatable as did BBM. After a rocky start to this season and so many girls playing double games, this squad has really gelled. A grade took on fourth on the ladder and another win for the day also keeping this team in top position on the ladder. An excellent 18 goal victory. This week we are at home and take on Bonbeach.
