FOOTBALL

il

The Varsity team proves that-"We are the Irish, the mighty, mighty Irish ."

Trained by Coach Walter Porter, the N.D. gridmen emerged with a 4-4-1 season. The Fighting Irish opened with a tie game against Essex Catholic. Their season outing exploded in a crushing 33-6 victory over Steinert High. The Irishmen continued their unbeaten record by smashing St. Anthony's 20-13. Irish power held out to the last, but let Mater Dei slip by with a close victory of 20-19. Another upset followed, the Hamilton Hornets downing N.D. 23-6. Not accustomed to the taste of defeat, the Blue and White fought hard, crushing Bishop Eustace 33-26. This sweet taste of victory was turned sour by a 13-6 loss to powerful Ewing, succeeded by a close 14-13 victory by Princeton. In Notre Dame's final game, the Irish buried Trenton High 38-6. Outstanding sportsmanship was displayed by AI Macli and Steve. Bielawski, who made All-State, All-Delaware Valley, and All-County teams. Vic Sands and Jim Caldrone made All-Delaware Valley and All-County. A fine showing was also made by Tim Shannon and Mike Drulis who made All-County.
