The influence of the world’s major religions and governments is analyzed throughout the course as it traces the rise of the Islamic Empire and the decline of Western Europe. The transformation of medieval Europe is investigated through Europe’s contact with the non-western world, the achievements of the Renaissance and the turmoil of the Reformation.
