Supporting your child’s communication skills
Let's Talk
Come along to talk, play and sing with your child at this fun and interactive sessions at your local Children’s Centre!
TALK
PLAY
SING
Why talk, play and sing with your child? • Talking to your child helps them learn to listen, and gives them the chance to respond and be listened to. • Playing with your child helps develop their social and communication skills. • Singing songs and rhymes with your child makes it easier for them to learn language skills. Playing, talking and singing with your child encourages them to find their own way of communicating and stimulates brain development. Get helpful tips and advice to support your child from your local, friendly speech and language team.
Individual appointments with a speech and language therapist also available. Just ask! NHS organisational template: Right aligned. This document is set up in CMYK for print purposes. Please refer to NHS Colour guidelines for RGB values if needed for digital applicaiton.

Stay, Play and Learn 9.15 – 10.45am (1 hour 30 minutes)
Stay, Play and Learn with Busy Feet and Oral Hygiene A group for children and their parents/carers to come and play together taking part in lots of fun and interactive activities in an inside and outdoor environment. The grownups talk about what the children are doing so that the children can learn about listening and talking. By playing children learn early skills that will help them when they go to school, like making choices, taking turns and following routines.

Young carers Who are Young Carers? A young carer is a person under 18 who provides essential and ongoing care and emotional support to a family member who is physically or mentally ill, disabled, or misuses substances. In Brent, we estimate there to be upwards of 3,000 young carers, but as many as 1 in 12 pupils in the UK could be a young carer. Often these children are caring for relatives, slipping through the net, undetected by support services. The caring role they carry out means they have unique experiences and demands that impact on their capacity to enjoy their childhoods. For more information on Young Carers, including details of upcoming activities and events, please contact: Brent Carers Centre 020 3802 7070
