About Brentwood Located 55 miles east of San Francisco, the city of Brentwood is a desirable community for residents and businesses alike. Incorporated in 1948, Brentwood is located in the far Eastern Contra Costa County region of the San Francisco Bay Area. The community has a long and storied history in agriculture and farming production. That tradition continues today even with the residential growth the city has experienced over the last several years. In the late spring and summer months, area farms are brimming with agritourists seeking out the latest stone fruits, corn and cherries.

The city’s incorporated boundary currently totals 14.8 square miles (9,502 acres), with a sphere of influence totaling 17.4 square miles (11,129 acres).

The City provides a full range of services including Police, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Economic Development, Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, Engineering and Inspection, Housing and General Administrative Services. Brentwood receives fire protection services from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District. The City operates public water and wastewater utilities, as well as providing refuse collection and disposal, and a recycling program.

Council Chamber: 150 City Park Way – Phone: 925-516-5440 Email: CityCouncil@brentwoodca.gov City Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, except that in November and December they are held on the on the second and the third Tuesdays.

The Brentwood City Council consists of the Mayor and four Council Members. The Mayor is an elected position, serving four-year terms. The City Council Members are elected and serve four-year terms. Commissions & Committees One of the greatest assets the City of Brentwood has is its people, especially those who devote their skills, knowledge, experience and time to serving their community. Under policy direction of the City Council, the City Manager serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the City; assumes full responsibility for planning, administering, directing, overseeing and evaluating the activities and operations of all City departments.

CityClerk@brentwoodca.gov The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for preparation of agendas and minutes; ensures compliance with legal noticing requirements; serves as the Elections Official for the conduct of general municipal and special elections; responding to requests for public records; maintenance of the City’s Municipal Code; and management of the citywide records management program. The City Clerk is the filing officer for Political Reform Act documents. Copies of Campaign Statements are available on the City’s website.

The City Clerk’s Office also provides U.S. passport information and serves as a passport acceptance center at City Hall. Passport services are located inside the Permit Center, 1st Floor, Community Development Department.

Brentwood’s Economic Development Division implements a wide variety of services and initiatives to assist with local business attraction, retention, and expansion as well as job growth. These services include marketing, real estate and location assistance, analysis, permit assistance, development agreements and also connecting businesses to key financial services and business opportunities.

The Economic Development team furthermore has several programs that are specific to helping local businesses succeed, such as the Economic Development Grant Program, Marketing Programs, Business Training and Business Networking.

Utility Billing 925-516-5415 Your first point of contact when starting water, sewer and garbage services is the City of Brentwood. Information regarding utility services, along with online payment options, can be accessed on the City’s website at www.brentwoodca.gov. Just click on “How Do I?” then click on “Pay” and select “Water, Sewer, Garbage Service” to access Utility Billing information and determine which payment option is best for you.

Business License 925-516-5480 Every business operating in the city is required to obtain a Business License. This includes residential landlords and businesses which conduct business in Brentwood even if they do not have a physical office in the city. The Community Development Department is responsible for Planning, Neighborhood Services, and Housing activities in the city.

Planning Division coordinates the review of development applications, including design review. It also conducts environmental reviews and prepares amendments to the General Plan and revisions to development regulations.

Neighborhood Services Division consists of two sections. The Building Section issues building and construction permits, including review of plans and inspections. The Code Enforcement Section ensures that properties in the community are maintained through abatement of public nuisances.

Housing Services Division oversees the administration of the City’s affordable housing programs: down payment assistance, affordable housing purchase, and affordable rentals.

Brentwood has 227 developed acres of parkland, 69 parks and facilities, 17.5 miles of trails and 13 miles of bike lanes. The department serves all age groups through the various community programs offered.

Many locations include grills with nearby restrooms, and most sites are covered.

Reservation Information

Picnic facility rental applications are available beginning in February for April 1 through October 31, at the Parks and Recreation Office. Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis. No phone reservations will be accepted.

• Child Identity Kits: These kits are offered by the Police Department to assist parents in maintaining crucial information about their children.

• Fingerprinting: By appointment only on Thursdays, between the hours of 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Call 925-634-6911 for an appointment.

• Neighborhood Watch: Please contact the Police Department if you are interested in starting a program in your neighborhood.

• Police Explorers: A law enforcement scouting program for youths ages 14 - 18.

• Tell-A-Cop Hotline 925-809-7826: This number may be used to report nonemergency traffic law violators.

• Vacation Watch: Members of the Police Department are made aware of homes that have people away on vacation.

• Vehicle Abatement/Parking Complaint Hotline 925-809-7827: Leave a message to report parking violations on public streets.

• Vehicle Inspections: Vehicle Identification Number verifications for DMV. • Volunteers (VIPS): A program for adult volunteers who desire to be actively involved in the Police Department.
