Welcome to Discovery Bay! The ‘Live Where You Play’ Community!

The Town of Discovery Bay Community Services District provides water, wastewater, parks, landscaping and recreation services. The Town of Discovery Bay Board has five members who are elected by community residents.

District Board meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Community Center, 1601 Discovery Bay Blvd. Residents are encouraged to attend these meetings in order to stay informed about the issues and opportunities facing the Town of Discovery Bay. Discovery Bay’s Community Center provides many amenities including swimming, tennis, a BBQ area, dog park and activities for all ages. The Town boasts award-winning schools and is home to a full-service, deep-water yacht harbor with a chandlery, marina and shops. There are two shopping centers in Town and a variety of commercial and retail outlets that include many dining opportunities.

Established in the early 1970’s, Discovery Bay has evolved into a thriving year-round home for over 15,000 residents who enjoy small-town living against the backdrop of over 1,200 miles of Delta waterway. Water sports abound here including boating, windsurfing, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming. Boaters can navigate from Discovery Bay to San Francisco Bay, giving residents water access to just about anywhere from their own backyard.

The Board of Directors, composed of five members, is the legislative body of the Town. The Board makes all policy determinations through enactment of ordinances and resolutions. The position of the Board President rotates on a yearly basis each January. The Boardmembers are:

Hard Facts About Soft Water Help the Town of Discovery Bay reduce wastewater salinity. In 2014 the Town of Discovery Bay District Board of Directors voted in Ordinance 24, which bans any installation of “salt-based” water softeners.

The Ordinance reads that no person shall install or in any manner assist in the installation of a residential or non-residential self-regenerating water softening appliance that discharges into the District sewer system.

The use of non-brine discharging water softening devices such as membrane or carbon systems are not prohibited by the District.

If you have an automatic water softener, please consider replacing it with an environmentally friendly model. The type of water softener you choose for your home or business can impact the environment as much as the quality of the water that comes from the tap.

State water officials are asking sanitary districts throughout the state to reduce the amount of salt they release back into the waterways and ground through their wastewater systems.

If you’re not sure if you have a salt-based water softener, please contact the Town office to assist you with your questions.

Please do your part by reducing the amount of salt that leaves your home.

Protecting Our Water Supply One Flush at a Time

Please never flush wipes, diapers, or feminine hygiene products, even if they are labeled “flushable.” These products do not disintegrate in water as quickly as toilet paper and often cause clogs in public sewer mains. Put these items in the trash, not the toilet.

If wipes can clog large sewer mains, they can definitely clog your home’s sewer lateral, requiring you to pay a plumber to clear the blockage.

If it’s not one of the 3-Ps: poop, pee or (toilet) paper, throw it in the trash to protect your toilet, our pipes, and the filters we all rely on to keep our community healthy. Please save us the extra work and the spending of ratepayer dollars by tossing the wipes in the garbage after use.

Please do not dispose of expired or unused medications in the sink or toilet.

Wastewater treatment does not completely remove drugs and traces will end up in the San Francisco Bay. Remove personal information from container labels or combine pills and capsules and seal in a plastic bag. Leave liquids and creams in their original containers (black out personal information) and seal in a plastic bag.

Bring to the Delta Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility – open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00am – 4:00pm (except holidays).

Controlled substances are drugs that have high potential for abuse and may lead to physical psychological dependence and cannot legally be accepted at the Delta Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.

Examples include: • Narcotic pain medications like Vicodin, OxyContin, and codeine; • Sleeping pills like Valium, Lunesta, and Ambien; • Behavioral drugs: ADD/ADHD drugs like Concerta & Adderall; Antidepressants like Zoloft; • Cough syrups with codeine.

If you’re not sure, check the internet, check with your pharmacist or check the DEA Website.

There are currently two sites in East Contra Costa County that can accept controlled substances: • Antioch Police Department - 300 “L” Street, Antioch • Pittsburg Police Department - 65 Civic Avenue, Pittsburg
