Smooth sailing Discovery Bay welcomed back it’s popular boat show last weekend after an eight-year absence, and even a little unseasonable weather couldn’t keep visitors away from the three-day event, including Tina and Gus Rueb from Discovery Bay, above. The Jeff Dawson Memorial Boat Show, sponsored by the Discovery Bay Lions Club (DBLC) and NorCal MasterCraft, drew thousands of boat enthusiasts to the marina. “The show was a huge success for everyone,” said Discovery Bay Lion Glenn Hoffman. “We had more than 3,000 attendees throughout the weekend, raising more than $25,000 for the Lions Club, which will all be given back to local charities.”

our generations of the Hinchcliff family recently gathered at the Opryland Resort, in Nashville, Tennessee. Grandson Kellan Parish enjoyed his family reunion and seeing Rascal Flatts at the Grand Ole Opry, and he also kept abreast of his hometown news with the Brentwood Press. He really had a ‘rootin-tootin’ good time at Country Music USA.

Special Olympics bill Recent legislation authored by Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D – Oakley) to help maximize opportunities for donations supporting the Special Olympics was approved by the assembly floor with a 75-0 vote. “For over a decade, I have been a part of the Special Olympics Northern California games by volunteering and supporting a charity that goes above and beyond to fulfill their mission,” said Frazier. “I’ve personally seen the benefits and joy this event brings these athletes. The Special Olympics provides athletic opportunities to numerous children and adults

with intellectual disabilities throughout the state, instilling the confidence, selfesteem and dignity they need to succeed in life.” AB 2371 would allow individuals to make a voluntary contribution in excess of their tax liability to the Special Olympics Fund. These funds would be used to help the Special Olympics Northern and Southern California expand athletic opportunities for athletes that have been unable to participate due to limited resources. AB 2371 will now move on to the senate for approval.

Care from page 3B “We checked out every resort that was in town … before settling on Pets Frolic Inn,” said a client, Tammy, in an online review. “I loved it, because our dog would be outside most of the day and not cooped up in a kennel. She has gone mostly deaf and has arthritis in her back legs really bad - the staff knows this, and they go the extra mile to be accommodating to her. I could never imagine taking her anywhere else. I am so grateful for the care and love they show Peppermint each time.” Currently, Pets Frolic Inn is offering a free day of doggie daycare and a free nail trim with an overnight stay for new clients. They are also offering a Yelp.com special of $75 worth of services for $50. This fall, Wilhelm plans to begin construction on a new, state-of-theart, larger play area, which will feature shade structures and pools.

Riders from page 2B “They each get different things out of the experience, and they are gaining confidence,” she said. “The instructors are very good – they are intuitive with the students, knowing when to push them a little more and when to give them a little more time. And they are very accommodating with our schedule.” Robyn Silvia, of Pleasanton, has known the owners for several years and wouldn’t trust anyone else to take care of her now 18-year-old horse, Jessie. “She has some health issues, and they constantly check on the horses,” she said.

We have a very large facility here, with lots of outdoor space and extremely large runs. – Julia Wilhelm, owner, Pets Frolic Inn Pets Frolic Inn is located at 4071 Orwood Road in Brentwood. “The facility is well maintained and up to date. I could move Jessie closer to me, but I know she’s safe with Bettike and her husband.” Tracy Jones’ two adopted mustangs have been living at Wild Rose for more than a decade. “While I was overseas in Afghanistan, I could be confident that they were being cared for,” said Jones. “We’re blessed to have Charley as a trainer.” Wild Rose II Quarter Horses is located at 2601 Eden Plains Road, in Brentwood.
