YOUR TRAVEL SCHOOL IN VALLE CAMONICA - ITALY SIGNS FROM PREHISTORY
ROMAN TRACES
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Traces left behind by our progenitors, dating back to the 7th Millennium B.C. and later on to the Middle Ages, are still visible today on the ice smoothen large stones in Valle Camonica. The Rock Drawings, the fist Italian Unesco World Heritage site, are a great and stunning book engraved in stones and it is there to testify the evolution of our civilization. Beside this inestimable heritage preserved in National and Local Parks, this territory offers Museums, archaeological reconstructions and didactic workshops helping students to discover, in a pleasant way, the customs and life of the ancient Camunian people.
During the Retic War, Valle Camonica, because of its strategic position between the Pianura Padana and the Rezia, was occupied by the Romans under the reign of Emperor Augusto. The Romans showed favour to the brave Camunian soldiers and soon the people in Valle Camonica repaid them by assimilating the customs of the new civilization. Discovering the remains of Roman tradition in our Valley is today easy and pleasant. You may visit the National Museum and Archaeological Park in Cividate Camuno or the beautiful Minerva’s Sanctuary in Breno
Valle Camonica, with its Parks and its Natural Reserves, offers to students many opportunities, from didactic activities to open-air workshops, in order to get acquainted in an active and original way to environmental and nutritional education. Students will discover here a mountain side territory and at the same time they will learn to respect their own environment. This will be possible with the help of the operators of the Case del Parco dell’Adamello (Vezza d’Oglio e e Saviore), of the Environmental Education Centres (Ceto, Angolo Terme e Pisogne) and the many Didactic Farms active in this area.
