hello, my name is brett lafleur, and i am from omaha, nebraska. i am a second year in the interior design program at kansas state university. i am avidly passionate about sustainability and biophilic design, and aspire to be a leader in the industry. in the future, i am going to pursue leed ap and well ap accreditations as well as a master’s degree in sustainable design to further expand my knowledge and my immense interest. i am also very interested in travelling, as i anticipate studying in south korea this summer and denmark my senior year.

THE RAMEY HOUSE STUDIO III, INDIVIDUAL PROJECT
PROJECT TYPE: RESIDENTIAL 2 SQUARE FT. DESIGNED: 2, 135 ft LOCATION: ATLANTA, GEORGIA DEADLINE: 5 WEEKS THE PROJECT GOAL WAS TO DESIGN A TWOFLOOR APARTMENT FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR WHO'S SON HAS AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER. IT WAS OUR FIRST PROJECT IN WHICH WE CREATED A CONCEPTUAL DESIGN PRIOR TO OUR FLOOR PLAN DEVELOPMENT. FURTHERMORE, THE INTENT OF THE PROJECT WAS TO CREATE A COHESIVE DESIGN THAT DEMONSTRATED OUR KNOWLEDGE OF ANTHROPOMETRIC STANDARDS, EVIDENCEBASED DESIGN, AND BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS.

LAKEHOUSE RETREAT STUDIO II, INDIVIDUAL PROJECT
PROJECT TYPE: RESIDENTIAL, SUSTAINABILITY 2 SQUARE FT. DESIGNED: 635 ft LOCATION: MILFORD LAKE, KANSAS DEADLINE: 7 WEEKS THE PROJECT GOAL WAS TO EXPAND OUR ARCHITECTURAL KNOWLEDGE AND COMMUNICATE OUR IDEAS THROUGH 2D AND 3D REPRESENTATIONS. THE DESIGN WAS A LAKEHOUSE FOR WEEKEND USE BY AN OLDER COUPLE. THIS PROJECT WAS OUR FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH PROGRAMMING AND FOLLOWING THE DESIGN PROCESS TO CREATE A SMALL, UNIQUE SOLUTION THAT WE DESIGNED ENTIRELY OURSELVES.

SOLAR DECATHLON, GROUP PROJECT
PROJECT TYPE: MIXED-USE RESIDENTIAL, SUSTAINABILITY 2 SQUARE FT. DESIGNED: 132,000 ft LOCATION: KANSAS CITY, MO DEADLINE: 6 MONTHS THE PROJECT GOAL WAS TO DESIGN A FIVE-STORY MIXED-USE BUILDING FOR HOMELESS VETERANS IN KANSAS CITY, TO REINTEGRATE RESIDENTS INTO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. WE ALSO DESIGNED THIS PROJECT WITH OUR GOAL OF OBTAINING LEED GOLD AND WELL GOLD CERTIFICATIONS, SHOULD IT BE BUILT. THE PROJECT TEAM WAS INTERDISCIPLINARY INCLUDING ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING, FINANCE, AND INTERIOR DESIGN.
