Creating and inspiring. Program Year 2012-2013 | Annual Report

As we reflect on another program year in the world of workforce, what immediately comes to mind are the challenges we faced and the stealthy ways in which we overcame and capitalized on them. William Chivers

Chair, Brevard Workforce

It has been a real trifecta with sequestration threats, workforce budget cuts, and a hold-your-breath National Emergency Grant extension. This report will showcase the year’s unique and engaging outreach and workforce practices while highlighting economically stimulating actions that set a strong foundation for the next program year. I hope you’ll take a moment to review and appreciate the results of a very successful 2012-2013 year. Learn about the improvements in customer service brought about by our Business to Jobs model and the gains in Outreach by leveraging technology to support our Jumpstart initiative. And as

the year unfolded, so did the NEG Aerospace campaign, complete with its struggles to engage remaining Aerospace talent. The Veterans program and support of families of active duty military became a bigger focus as the largest amount of Veterans reintegrated into the workplace. Preparing our young adults for the workforce continues to take precedent with news about the Young Adult Program. And finally, with the support of our hard working and forward-thinking staff, Brevard Workforce was able to nurture its community partnerships and support the entrepreneurial efforts of many aspiring business owners to create jobs and inspire others to follow.

The Jumpstart Outreach campaign is continuing to prove itself as a successful overarching message to businesses and jobseekers alike, encouraging all to move forward and “take action now” or “jumpstart” their efforts towards securing a promising future by partnering with Brevard Workforce for all their workforce needs. In 2012 Brevard Workforce conducted a Business Perceptions Survey to gain feedback from 650 business professionals representing local businesses and organizations to improve services, expand communications and target outreach activities. Based on feedback regarding usage, awareness and perceived value of Brevard Workforce services, it became obvious there were key services held in high value by the survey participants, yet the participants were unaware that Brevard Workforce offered them.

As a result, Brevard Workforce’s Industry Relations Department, through outreach and relationship development implemented tactics to raise awareness of the services highly valued such as: on-site recruiting events, industry information learning events, targeted industry focus groups, and sharing planning and industry specific workforce challenges and best practices. NEG 2012 AEROSPACE 2013 ANNUAL REPORT

Aerospace Transition to the Future | Click to play. Video will open in new window.

In its third year, the Aerospace National Emergency Grant (NEG) program was redesigned to provide a more in-depth intensive set of services to assist job seeking customers with job search skills. Enhancements to the program included the addition of the 5 Steps to Rapid Re-Employment Supercharged Program and an emphasis on individualized resume development, interviewing skills, and customized job search goal setting to reflect individual priorities. What a difference the 5 Steps program made for me. It showed me the correct way to approach the job market and offered the encouragement I needed. I graduated the class on a Thursday, walked into an employer on Friday, and requested to see the HR manager. I was hired the following Wednesday! I would never have had the confidence to walk into an employer and do this.
