PREPARATION New Surfaces Walls
All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Powdery, polished plaster or dense surfaces should be primed with Albany Primer Sealer. Porous surfaces should be ‘mist’ coated with Albany Acrylic Primer Undercoat thinned with up to 10% clean water.
Timber
All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust. Treat knots with two thin coats of fresh knotting. Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with a suitable proprietary filler. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust. Prime with one coat of Albany Acrylic Primer Undercoat.

All Metals Including Galvanised
Surfaces must be clean and free from anything that will interfere with the materials to be applied. Wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove oil, grease or any other contaminants, frequently changing the water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow to dry. Galvanised surfaces should be pre-treated with a suitable mordant solution. Overall blackening of the surface will confirm satisfactory surface preparation.
Additional Surface Preparation - All Metals Non-ferrous Metals
Lightly abrade to a bright (not polished) surface - excluding galvanised surfaces. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all resides. Allow to dry. Prime with one coat of Albany All Purpose Primer.
Ferrous Metals
Remove all millscale and rust back to clean metal. Remove all residues. Prime within the working day with one coat of Albany All Purpose Primer.
Previously Decorated Surfaces Walls
All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied e.g. dirt, grease etc. Remove all loose, failing or suspect paint. Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust. Organic growth must be removed and the areas treated with a Albany Fungicidal Wash. Fill any fixing holes, cracks and shallow surface defects with a suitable proprietary filler. Patch prime bare and filled areas with Albany Acrylic Primer Undercoat. If after cleaning any areas are still contaminated with substances likely to cause staining and/or bleeding, patch prime with one coat of Albany Primer Sealer.

Rub down witha suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust. Spot prime bare and filled areas with one coat of Albany Primer.

Previously Decorated Surfaces
All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Powdery surfaces should be primed with Albany Primer Sealer. Porous surfaces should be ‘mist’ coated with Albany Durable Matt Emulsion, thinned with up to 40% clean water. All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied e.g. dirt, grease etc. Remove all loose, failing or suspect paint. Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust. Organic growth must be removed and the areas treated with Albany Fungicidal Wash. Fill any fixing holes, cracks and shallow surface defects with an appropriate Filler. Patch prime bare and filled areas of masonry with Albany Primer Sealer. Ferrous Metals
All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper and round sharp edges 1-3mm. Remove all dust. Treat knots with two thin coats of fresh knotting. Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with a suitable proprietary filler. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust. Prior to priming the moisture content of the substrate should not exceed 18%. Prime with one coat of Albany Wood Primer. Surfaces must be clean and free from anything that will interfere with the materials to be applied. Wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove oil, grease or any other contaminants, frequently changing the water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow to dry. galvanised surfaces should be pre-treated with a suitable mordant solution. Overall blackening of the surface will confirm satisfactory surface preparation.
Lightly abrade to a bright (not polished) surface-excluding galvanised surfaces. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all resides. Allow to dry. Prime, including galvanised surfaces, with one coat of Albany All Purpose Primer. Remove all millscale and rust back to clean metal. Remove all residues. Prime within the working day with one coat of Albany Metal Primer.

Metals

Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust. Remove all rust. Spot prime ferrous metals with one coat of Albany Metal Primer. Spot prime non-ferrous metals including galvanised metal with one coat of Albany All Purpose Primer.

Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water. Wet abraded to provide a key. Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry. Bring forward all spot primed areas with an additional coat of primer and allow to dry.

Apply one or two coats as required. Maintain a wet edge.
APPLICATION
Apply by brush to an even thickness (a fine, soft long filament bristle brush gives best results). Maintain a wet edge. On timber lay off in the direction of the grain.
CLEANING

Organic growth must be removed and the areas treated with Albany Fungicidal Wash. PREPARATION New Surfaces
All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Prime all surfaces including powdery, polished plaster or dense surfaces with Albany Primer Sealer.
Previously Decorated Surfaces
All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied e.g. dirt, grease etc. Remove all loose, failing or suspect paint. Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust. Organic growth must be removed and the areas treated with Albany Fungicidal Wash. Fill any fixing holes, cracks and shallow surface defects with a suitable proprietary filler. Patch prime bare and filled areas with Albany Primer Sealer. Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water. Any glossy or eggshell surfaces should be wet abraded to provide a key. Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry. If after cleaning any areas still contaminated with substances likely to cause staining and/or bleeding, patch prime with one coat of Albany Primer Sealer. Bring forward patch primed areas with one coat of Albany Smooth Durable Eggshell.

Care must be taken not to damage the underlying surface. Fill cracks and small defects in masonry surfaces with a suitable proprietary filler and finish to match existing. Stabilise all bare, filled and previously decorated chalking areas with an application of Albany Stabilising Solution. Wash any soundly adhering gloss painted surfaces with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants frequently changing the water. Wet abrade to provide a key. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all residues.

Allow to dry. Fill cracks and small defects in masonry surfaces with a suitable proprietary filler and finish to match existing. Stabilise all bare, filled and decorated chalking areas with an application of Albany Stabilising Solution.

PREPARATION New Surfaces Timber
All Metals including Galvanised
All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper and round sharp edges 1-3mm. Remove all dust. Treat knots with two thin coats of fresh knotting. Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with Sandtex Trade Ready Mixed Filler. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust. Prior to priming the moisture content of the substrate should not exceed 18%. Prime with one coat of Albany Wood Primer.
Surfaces must be clean and free from anything that will interfere with the materials to be applied. Wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove oil, grease or any other contaminants, frequently changing the water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow to dry. Galvanised surfaces should be pre-treated with a suitable mordant solution. Overall blackening of the surface will confirm satisfactory surface preparation.
Additional Surface Preparation - All Metals Non-Ferrous Metals Lightly abrade to a bright (not polished) surface - excluding galvanised surfaces. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all resides. Allow to dry. Prime, including gal vanised surfaces, with one coat of Albany All Purpose Primer.

Ferrous Metals Previously Decorated Surfaces - Timber
All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Remove all loose, and failing or suspect paint. Prior to painting the moisture should not exceed 18%. Remove grey and denatured sur faces by rubbing down with abrasive paper or by mechanical means and round sharp edges 1-3mm. Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust. Organic growth must be removed and the areas treated with Crown Trade Fungicidal Solution. Remove any defective putty glazing, clean and prime rebates, replacement putties must be allowed to form a hard skin. Treat knots with two thin coats of fresh knotting. Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with a suitable proprietary filler or a two pack proprietary wood filler. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust.
Metals
All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Remove all loose, and failing or suspect paint. Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust. Remove all rust. Spot prime ferrous metals with one coat of Albany Metal Primer. Spot prime non-ferrous metals including galvanised metal with one coat of Albany All Purpose Primer.
Timber and Metals
Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water. Wet abraded to provide a key. Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry. Bring forward spot primed area with one coat of Albany Undercoat.

PREPARATION New Surfaces
Previously Decorated Surfaces
All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Powdery, polished plaster or dense surfaces should be primed with Albany Primer Sealer. Porous surfaces should be ‘mist’ coated with Albany Vinyl Silk Emulsion thinned with up to 10% clean water.
All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied e.g. dirt, grease etc. Remove all loose, failing or suspect paint. Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust. Organic growth must be removed and the areas treated with Albany Fungicidal Wash. Fill any fixing holes, cracks and shallow surface defects with a suitable proprietary filler. Patch prime bare and filled areas with Albany Primer Sealer. Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water. Any glossy or eggshell surfaces should be wet abraded to provide a key. Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust. Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water. Wet abraded to provide a key. Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry. Spot prime all bare and filled areas.

Remove all loose, and failing or suspect varnish and any grey denatured timber. Prior to coating, the moisture should not exceed 18%. Feather edges of sound varnish. Remove all dust. Organic growth must be removed and the areas treated with Albany Fungicidal Wash. Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with a suitable proprietary wood filler to match the colour of the bare timber. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust. Spot varnish bare and filled areas with Albany Yacht Varnish. Wash remaining sound varnish with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water. Wet abraded to provide a key. Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry. Bring forward spot primed areas with one coat of the Albany Yacht Varnish.
