The UK’s most common household plumbing system is gravity-fed. This works using a cold water tank in the loft and a hot water tank in the airing cupboard.

Located in the airing cupboard or garage, this system stores water under high pressure in a large cylinder. You will not have a cold water tank in the loft with this system.

Usually found in the kitchen, a combi-boiler heats your water on demand. Owing to the nature of this type of boiler, the warm-up setting cannot be used with this system.

For this system our low pressure base unit should be used.

The control box can be sited conveniently under the bath, in the loft or in an airing cupboard, causing minimum disruption to tiling or decoration. The Remote Digital Shower can be used with a variety of kit options from fixed head to ceiling-fed slide rail for optimum flexibility! Because there is more than one type of heating system, we have developed two types of remote digital shower base units. These are for high pressure and low pressure systems. Our low pressure unit ensures a powerful flow of water by using two pumps concealed within the unit. Since a high pressure system already supplies a powerful flow, the extra pump is not required. These ensure a perfect shower every time, regardless of which system your home is fitted with.

STYLES OF SHOWER VALVES There are various styles of shower valves available with the option of exposed or concealed and ones that operate shower accessories, including fixed head/slide rail kit, body jets or rigid riser kits. Below are the details of the various valves available:

Firstly you need to determine the type of water heating system installed in your home, as this will affect not just your choice of shower but its performance. We have detailed here how to identify the type of system you have. Alternatively you could ask a qualified installer or call our customer service department on 01282 446789 who will be happy to help.

WATER HEATING SYSTEMS Conventional gravity-fed hot water systems This is the traditional system installed in UK homes and usually consists of a cold water storage system in the loft and a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. Modern high pressure systems Instantaneous gas water heater or combi boiler: Combination boilers are increasingly used in the UK, and a wall-mounted or floorstanding boiler heats the water as it is used. Unvented systems Hot water is stored in a large cylinder under pressure. This system has no requirement for a cold water storage tank.

Low Pressure 1 = 0.1 Bar minimum Suitable for all plumbing systems, including conventional gravity-fed systems with a minimum 0.1 bar pressure and above. LP1

Low Pressure 2 = 0.2 Bar minimum Suitable for all plumbing systems, including conventional gravity-fed systems with a minimum 0.2 bar pressure and above. LP2

Twin Concealed Valve

• Valves are suitable for use with all systems: gravity-fed, pumped, unvented high pressure or fully modulated combi-boilers • Excellent flow rates – even at low pressure. Valves can deliver 5.5 litres per minute at 0.1 bar pressure (see chart for more details) • The cartridge is fully reversible, meaning if hot and cold supplies are the wrong way round, it doesn’t need re-plumbing. Simply remove the cartridge, turn 180° and replace.

Look out for these logos TMV2 The Government recommends the use of thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) for baths, taps and showers for all housing. TMV2Certified valves maintain the pre-set temperatures even if the water pressure varies when other appliances are used, preventing domestic hot water scalding. TMV2 All twin and triple valves incorporate either the VQ20 or VQ21 TMV2 valve assemblies (VQ20 BC947/1211 or VQ21 BC947/1211). TMV3 TMV3 valves are engineered to a high standard so that they meet Government Health and Safety requirements for use in public places such as schools, hospitals, offices, etc., and would significantly reduce the risk of scalds occurring in the home or anywhere that hot water is delivered through mixing valves. TMV3 All twin and triple valves incorporate either the VQ20 or VQ21 TMV3 valve assemblies (VQ20 BC1119/1212 or VQ21 BC1119/1212). WRAS Appropriate products have been extensively tested by the WRc and are approved or pending approval to comply with the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme.

WATER SAVING PRODUCTS

Water can often be wasted at the basin by leaving the tap running whilst cleaning your teeth, for example, so to help combat this, we have introduced the Eco-Click mono basin mixers. These water-efficient fittings feature a specially designed Eco-Click cartridge, allowing you to select reduced or full flow from the tap. Click to the first setting for 50% flow rate or click again to achieve full flow. Eco-click mono basin mixers are supplied as standard wherever possible.

We all need to reduce the amount of water we use. The average person in the UK uses approximately 150 litres of water every day. This level of consumption is unsustainable and is contributing to water shortages in areas of the UK. Reducing the amount of water we use is no longer a choice – it is essential. There are several ways to save water. For instance, a shower uses 40% less water than running a bath. We also offer a range of Eco-Flow water regulators, which restrict the maximum flow rate to 6 litres per minute. The flow regulators are a quick and costeffective way to reduce your water usage. Designer Radiator and Heated Towel Rail FAQs How much heat will I need? All rooms are individual and therefore the heat output required from your selected radiator will vary. It is important that you choose the correct radiator to ensure that enough heat is generated to keep you comfortable. A sensible tip is to always choose a model with a higher heat output than you require, as this can always be controlled by turning them down. What is the measurement for heat output? All our radiators carry the heat output measured in either: • BTUs (British Thermal Unit) or • Watts Our BTU calculations use the British Standard of Delta t60c. What heat output will I need for my room? It is highly recommended that your installer calculates the BTU requirement for each applicable room, so you can get the maximum heat benefit from your chosen radiator. We strongly suggest this is done before purchasing your radiator. What radiator designs offer the best heat output? Basically, the bigger surface area that a radiator has, the more heat output will be generated. Another general guide is that painted finishes offer a slightly better heat output than chrome-finished items. To optimize the space you have available, we offer radiator designs that can be fitted horizontally or vertically. To get additional heat output from the same area, you can also choose options that include multi rows of tubes, panels and columns. Radiator colour options From stock, we offer the most current fashionable colour options across a wide range of products, all of which can be seen in our current brochures. Please note that owing to the printing process, the actual colours on the radiators may vary slightly from those shown in our brochures. Pipe centres All our dimensional details are published in our current brochures. However, owing to manufacturing tolerances, we strongly suggest that your final pipework position is not completed until you actually receive delivery of your radiator. Electric-only radiators Where your installation location does not have immediate access to an existing water supply, we can offer purpose-made electriconly products for a quick and easy solution to your heating needs. These electric-only products are supplied pre-filled with an electrical inhibitor solution, and fitted with a compatible heating element. Dual-fuel radiators Some of our radiators can also work as dual-fuel applications, which means that when your main heating system might be turned off in the summer months, you can still operate your radiators electrically if required. Please see our current brochures for suitable models. Radiator valves options Depending on your choice of radiator, we have several styles to choose from, details of which can be found in our current brochures. Warning / precautions Qualified persons should make all electrical and plumbing connections. When fitting radiators with heating elements, the radiator must always be mounted with the element at the bottom with the radiator in the upright position. Failure to do so may result in a fire hazard.

We offer a 20-year guarantee, unless otherwise stated, against manufacturing defects on all products when used in normal domestic applications (excluding serviceable parts, neglect or abuse). Additionally, we guarantee the surface finishing: twenty years on chrome (unless otherwise stated) and five years on stainless steel. Most of our ranges are marked with the relevant guarantee for the range. Where individual products have a different length of guarantee, the icon appears next to the corresponding product.

Our on-site testing house ensures all products are endurance and performance tested to ensure the highest quality and all appropriate standards and approvals are achieved. The incorporation of Valquest in to the business means all our thermostatic showers are powered by this cutting-edge technology. We have a dedicated Valquest laboratory where a team of highly skilled technicians carry out all the assembly and testing of the Valquest cartridges here in the UK.
