introduction
From the Executive Director We have been hearing a lot about tourism recently. Wyoming is coming off of its largest year for tourist traffic to our state in history—another banner year is predicted for 2016. At the state level, legislators are considering Governor Matt Mead’s strong recommendation for an increase to Wyoming Office of Tourism, which is responsible for marketing Wyoming both domestically and internationally. Meanwhile, the Wind River Visitors Council, our regional tourism group, just released an amazing video highlighting our area’s attractions and truly capturing the essence of what Fremont County has to offer. At the local level, we are gearing up for summer and helping local events continue to bring people to the area. A lot of people don’t realize that Lander is a major stop on the Eukanuba Sled Stop Race! The race originates in Jackson and passes through a total of 8 towns. If you haven’t seen this amazing dog sled race, make sure to come check out the festivities! Monday Feb 1, 2016 – Meet the Mushers 4:30 -6:00 pm
Traffic will be closed the 200 block of Main Street for this awesome family event. Dog trucks will be lining the block and teams will have their teammates (dogs) out for visiting. Tuesday Feb 2, 2016 – Race Day 9:00 am sharp
9:00 am – Race Start is at Louis Lake parking lot on top of South Pass. Think about carpooling, the parking lot is small. Mushers leave in 3 minute intervals starting 9 am sharp travelling for a distance of 43 miles. Returning approx 3-4 hours later returning. Teams can return staggered or in a cluster so be ready! Once done they need to take care of their dogs and get down the road.
