POINTS TO PONDER

Annual Community Awards Luncheon Scheduled for Friday, March 8

Our annual Community Awards Luncheon celebrates the men and women who put so much time and effort into building their businesses, creating jobs for Fremont County’s residents, supporting the community, and in general making Lander a great place to live, work, and play. Chamber members, be sure to reserve your complimentary ticket(s)!

Luncheon Speaker to Address ½% Economic Development Sales Tax

As part of the luncheon program, after we have presented the awards, we always try to have an engaging speaker address the crowd on a timely topic. This year's speaker will be Dr. Anne Alexander, Assistant Dean at the University of Wyoming’s College of Business and Director of Outreach and Engagement at the college’s Center for Business and Economic Analysis (CBEA). The CBEA has completed a study of the impact of the tax that Fremont County voters initially approved in 2020, and Dr. Anderson will be speaking on the results of the study.

Controversy over the Tax Prompts Proposed Changes

How the municipalities and the county have distributed the proceeds of the tax to individual businesses has generated much controversy across the county. To address critics, changes to how the money is awarded are being discussed by local business and government leaders, notably the Forward Fremont County PAC and the Fremont County Association of Governments (FCAG). The Lander Chamber strongly supports the tax to fund Central Wyoming Regional Airport and the Wind River Transit Authority, and we are monitoring the proposed changes under discussion.

Be an Informed Voter ~ Come Join the Q&A

Fremont County voters will decide later this year whether to renew the tax or let it sunset, so you won't want to miss this talk! A Q&A will follow Dr. Anderson’s presentation, and we encourage our members and the public alike to participate. Members of the Lander Chamber receive one complimentary ticket to the luncheon as a membership benefit. (Some memberships receive more than one. Contact Meghan Manning, the Chamber’s Program & Event Coordinator, at 332-3892 ext. 4 to confirm.) Additional tickets are $30, and guest tickets are available for $35. Visit landerchamber.org for more details and to reserve and/or purchase tickets.

We hope to see you on the 8th for a wonderful celebration and lively discussion!
