introduction
From the Executive Director
F
irst and foremost, everyone should ensure they get out to vote on November 8th---it is your civic duty and this right should not be taken lightly. One issue
in particular is the renewal of the optional 1% sales tax for our roads. These funds help fix deteriorating infrastructure throughout the County, and since it was enacted in 2012 there has been four million dollars in Lander and over 11 million dollars in Fremont County invested in replacing and repairing our aging roadways. As the state budgets are reduced, it is imperative that we renew this vital program to help keep Fremont County competitive with the surrounding counties. Next, the Holiday Season has arrived! This year to support our local merchants we have rejuvenated the Think Lander First: Shop Local program that will kick off new holiday

Also, this is the last month to get an ad into our Travel and Relocation Guide, which we distribute to 4,000 travelers and those looking to relocate. 2017 might be months away, but we are already gearing up for another action-packed summer of tourism. Finally, we are very happy to report that after a year of

Light Up Lander
M
ark your calendars for Light Up Lander: Saturday December 3rd!
Events begin in Mr. D’s parking lot (7th & Main) with canned food drive, games, hayrides, and a chance to visit with Santa from 3-5pm. Beginning at 5:30pm participants are encouraged to join Santa, Lander Valley High School band and parade floats down Main Street to Centennial Park where all of Main Street and the Lander Christmas tree will be lit up. The event ends at 6:30pm. This is an awesome opportunity for downtown and Main Street businesses to kick off the holiday season with extended business hours, live or festive window displays, deals and sales to attract post-Light Up Lander attendee shopping. At the very least we hope you can have your lights on for this wonderful “light up the holidays” event.
Light up Lander is always an event the community looks forward to; this year will be no different!

FREMONT COUNTY 1% OPTIONAL VOTER INFORMATION FACT SHEET
Q. Where can I find an interactive map showing the 1% Projects? A. Please visit fremontpennypower.com. What is the Optional 1% Tax? A. This is a 1% tax on sales of goods and services in Wyoming. The measure must be approved by a majority of county voters and can be used for many purposes. Q. How will the proposed 1% Optional Tax be used? A. Fremont County and all Cities and Towns approved resolutions committing any approved 1% funds solely to streets, roads, bridges, water & sewer (see template resolution on back. Q. What will happen to the money as it is collected? A. The funds will be collected by the state and redistributed to the county, cities, and towns based on population. The state charges a 1% administration fee. The process of collecting funds and redistributing to local governments takes several months. Q. Will this tax affect items that are not already subject to sales tax? A. No. Items that are not currently subject to state sales tax such as groceries, sales of livestock, feeds for use in feeding livestock for marketing purposes, farm implements, utilities and prescription drugs will remain exempt.
Q. How long does the One Percent Optional Tax last if it is passed? A If approved, the tax will be placed before the voters again in four years (2020) for renewal. Q. How much money has the One Percent Optional Tax raised? A. An average of $7,546.651.17 per year has been distributed county-wide between Fiscal Year 2014-2016. This amount has been divided among six municipalities and Fremont County based on population:
Q. How much revenue is generated by visitors to Fremont County? A. Travelers spend an estimated $138 million in Fremont County annually, and generate an estimated 10% of sales tax receipts. Q. What is the difference between the One Percent Optional Tax and the Specific Option Tax (also known as the Capital Facilities Tax)? A. The Specific Option Tax has a specified dollar amount. Once that amount of money is collected, the tax is retired. The one percent optional tax is approved for four years and then placed on the ballot again.
