introduction

From the Executive Director

M

y wife and I recently replaced our oven rangetop. In shopping for any home staple, it is sometimes tempting to google search your way to a “buy it now” steal on the lowest price, but at what cost? Between this experience and numerous conversations with local businesses, it got me thinking: What is our local economy worth? Our economy is both precious and invaluable. It produces the jobs and wages that fuel our families. It creates the tax base for essential services like emergency response, law enforcement, and firefighters. Our economy is the catalyst for Lander’s quality of life, producing pathways, recreation, and the reason to reside. Every time our business community donates to a charitable cause it’s because of our economy, through which their generosity is possible. From our economy, all things come. Who is responsible for maintaining our economy’s resilience? The local government? No. The city and county governments’ roles are to ensure health, welfare, and safety of its citizens, not to puppeteer the free markets. The State of Wyoming? Not really. While we house the offices of many state agencies and have great representation in Cheyenne, don’t count on our state propping up Lander’s economy. The President of the United States? He has bigger fish to fry. Regardless of your political beliefs, the President is working on a larger scale than Lander’s economy. Look closer to home: we are the stewards of our economy. We as consumers are all endowed with the vote of our dollars, and have the responsibility to Think Lander First. Ideally, our economy’s engine is creating exportable goods and services that in turn generate primary dollars pouring into Lander. While our keystone businesses work toward this goal, let’s intentionally choose to spend our dollars locally and support our economy.

Meet Peg Palmer | Fremont In-Home Services Peg Palmer, RN BSN, Grant/Waiver Clinical Supervisor, has worked in healthcare for over 40 years, including 20+ years in home health and hospice. During that time she has seen firsthand the benefits of when patients can stay in the comfort and safety of their own home. Peg Palmer, RN BSN Grant/Waiver Clinical Supervisor

Her experience, along with her commitment "to assist our community members to remain at home," identified a need to improve the availability of services in Fremont County.

In 1998, Peg began to successfully secure grants to provide a wider range of healthcare solutions to qualified residents. In 2003 the 501(c)3 not-for-profit, Fremont In-Home Services, was established to manage the grant/waiver programs. Since its inception, Fremont In-Home Services has partnered with Frontier Home Health and Hospice who provides the team of registered nurse case managers and home health aides who administer the program. The benefit: Fremont In-Home Services can use 100% of the grant funds toward patient services - without additional fundraising from the community. Because of their 15-year partnership with Frontier Home & Hospice and funding from two Wyoming Department of Health grants, Fremont In-Home Services serves over 100 Fremont County residents year - all in the comfort and safety of their own home. DID YOU KNOW: Frontier works with two not-for-profit organizations to provide services to Fremont County: Fremont In-Home Services and Friends of Hospice.
