Why Donate?
You Can Donate if: -You are in good health. -You are 16 years of age or older (written parental permission required until 17th birthday). -You weigh at least 110 lbs. -Have not donated whole blood in the past 56 days. -Have not been to the dentist in the past 72 hours.
-Every three seconds someone needs blood; perhaps one day that someone will be you or someone you love. -If you began donating blood at age 17 and donated every 56 days until you reached 76, you would have donated 48 gallons of blood, potentially helping save more than 1,000 lives! -Although 60% of the population are eligible to donate, in the Los Angeles area only 3% actually donate. -A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood. -The blood used in an emergency is already on the shelves in the event of a disaster. -Others in need of blood are those who suffer from diseases such as cancer, those undergoing surgical procedures and premature babies.
FAQ -The donation process lasts about an hour for registration, interview and mini physical. —The donation itself is only about 8-10 minutes on average. -Every donation equals about one pints of blood. -One pint of blood can save up to 3 lives. -A healthy donor may donate every 56 days because red cells need about four to six weeks for complete replacement. -The blood type most often requested by hospitals is Type O.
