Weakened Coast woman back on intravenous feeding raise money to help support her emaciated daughter’s care and to pay for a special nutrient formula called Liquid Hope. “We are still looking for donations and for now they will be used to pay for the extra expenses of staying at a hotel in Vancouver (either Rose’s father -Gary Gilbert or I will try to be there for her at all times during this scary time), ferry costs to get back and forth, and after that to order Liquid Hope until we can persuade our government to cover the cost,” SchwarzGilbert said.

The intravenous formula Schwarz is on now—called Peptamin AF—costs $800 a month and is paid for by the B.C. medical system, but it contains mostly refined and synthetic ingredients, her mother said. The province will not subsidize Liquid Hope, a formula with only natural ingredients, which costs $900 a month. The family believes Rose was infected by a diseasebearing tick in 2002, when she developed a telltale rash while living in southeastern B.C. They also fear she may have been re-infected in 2009

when they did find a tick on her body. Tests done by a Canadian lab came back negative for Lyme disease in 2009, but a more reliable test in California performed in early 2014 showed she did have the debilitating illness. The longer the infection goes undetected, the more serious the damage to the body, even after the disease itself has been eliminated, Schwarz-Gilbert said. Those who would like to donate can get details on the Facebook page, “The Continuing Fight to Save Rose.”

Staats said the Squamish and shíshálh First Nations were being consulted, and that the West Howe Sound Advisory Planning Commission fully endorsed the proposal. The planning commission noted that there is poor cell service or no service at all right now in many areas between Langdale and the pulp mill in Port Mellon, as well as on the north side of Gambier Island, and for recreational and commercial boating traffic in West Howe Sound. The committee voted in favour of the staff recommendation that the SCRD bring the application forward for a development permit—the final step in the approval process—at the next committee meeting Feb. 12.

Area D (Roberts Creek) Director Mark Lebbell said it was too bad such a large structure had to be placed at “a gateway” to the Sunshine Coast, but agreed that the safety and security benefits of improved communications outweighed that concern. In a presentation to the SCRD Planning and Development committee Jan. 8, staff technician Lesley-Ann Staats said plans for the tower generated no objections from nearby residents. Also, notices posted in Coast newspapers, including the Local Weekly, drew 16 responses, all in support of the application.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District is ready to approve construction of a new cell phone tower at the top of a hill above the Langdale ferry terminal. The 45-metre (148-foot) tower will relay Telus Mobility phone traffic and is expected to greatly improve spotty cell phone reception in West Howe Sound. The tower would be erected on a privately owned five-acre lot on Stewart Road, in an area zoned for industrial use. The metal-lattice structure will be clearly visible in the surrounding neighbourhood, and will be a prominent feature in the view looking toward the water from the tourist information area at the top of the ferry bypass. Editorial Opinion

The secret to a long marriage This week weddings are on our mind. This is a special issue of The Local keyed to making your wedding the best ever. And there is a Wedding Fair called Inspirations coming up. And that made me think about marriage. Is there anything more pleasant to witness than a long married couple, happily married? What is their secret? we wonder. Sometimes they are always together, walking to the post office, shopping for groceries, passing the dog’s leash back and forth as they amble along the sea wall, grey hair blowing in the wind. Sometimes they are independent souls. He likes to go fishing off the pier in Davis Bay and she stays in the garden up the hill putting in bulbs and thinking about mulch. But you can still tell. What is their secret? Something has rubbed the edges off. They are soft with each other, forgiving, sometimes a bit rueful maybe, as they recognize their dear one’s irritating habits. One of the things you notice is that they pay attention to each other. Or maybe they don’t. Maybe they take each other for granted, bobbing along together happily in the boat they call marriage. How do they do it? There have been scientific studies that predict whether marriages will last or not. They say one of the predictors is how much willing attention is given from one partner to the other. They talk about people making bids for attention from the other and how easily they can get the other person’s attention. But by observation this doesn’t always hold true for long married couples. Sometimes one of them develops a deafness that seems to be personal and stays deep in tv land but somehow you know that he (or she) would be lost without the other. So what is it? Physical intimacy is a good starting point. It may become less important but it helps to maintain the relationship over time. Some say kids can keep you together and definitely grandchildren. But that’s not sure fire either. Is it luck? Good genes? Good health? Shared interests? No. All of those things can be absent and the marriage goes happily on. In these troubled times, a happily long married couple is like a model of how things should be, something to hope for, to wish for our young ones as they set out. We see that couples who are happy do not ask, “Why doesn’t she (or he) do more to make me happy?”, but think more along the lines of “What can I do to make him (or her) happy?” This is how love works. We think the key thing is respect. R-E-S-P-E-C-T as Aretha spelled it. With that, we wish all the folks who are planning their weddings this week and in the future, all the very best. Have a great wedding and the happiest of marriages. Jane Covernton

Letters to the Editor – Opinions “Postcards from another planet”

(Sent to MP John Weston and copied to the Local) Mr. Weston, Stop - STOP! - sending me you and your government’s propagandistic piffle. Your latest ‘Riding News’, arriving a few days ago in my mailbox, is clearly not news but hyperbolic tripe, no doubt inked by a paid party writer to twist and misinform Canadians about your ‘news’. That you have the gall to photoshop yourself next to the phrase ‘The Environment is the Economy’ is a shamefaced insult to the Canadian scientists your government has muzzled, the important scientific facilities the CPC has closed and the environments the CPC have helped despoil with the support of your policies. That you present yourself as a benefactor to a tidal energy start up company developing technology not in our riding but another, is disingenuous; that you present yourself as a superhero fighting ISIS “evil” through jingoistic boilerplate is likewise nauseating. Enough Mr. Weston. Save Canadian taxpayers the expense of fronting your postcards from another planet. Michael Maser, Gibsons

Polar Bear history

On behalf of the Sunshine Coast Lions Club, thank you very much for the front page and page 3 coverage of our Annual Polar Bear Swim at Davis Bay. This was the 23rd consecutive year we have put it on. There was no Polar Bear Swim on January 1, 1991 and we jumped on the opportunity to put it on and our first one was on January 1, 1992. Prior to us putting it on, if I remember correctly, it was the Sechelt and District Chamber of Commerce who ran it after starting it a few years earlier. The Sunshine Coast Lions Club was the first Lions Club

on the Sunshine Coast and has been meeting in Sechelt since it was chartered in 1964. Currently there are also other Lions Clubs in Gibsons, Pender Harbour, and Egmont. Robert Allen Publicity Chairman, Sunshine Coast Lions Club.

You are invited to share what is working and not working for seniors in your community,” said Ms. Mackenzie. “I will discuss my role, seniors’ concerns heard in BC, the housing review and other monitoring. There will ample time for the audience to participate in questions and discussion. I look forward to meeting you and hearing about your concerns.” Ms. Mackenzie is BC’s and Canada’s the first ever Seniors Advocate. This is her first trip to the Sunshine Coast in her advocate role since she was appointed last fall. Whether you are a senior, a family member of, a caregiver or service provider to the Sunshine Coast seniors population you will want to get to know and hear from Seniors Advocate Isobel Mackenzie. Gala for the garden

Ticket sales close Monday, Jan. 18 for the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden’s Grow The Garden Gala, to be held Saturday, January 24 at Sechelt Seniors Centre. This

is the coast’s premier gala, and the Garden’s most significant fundraiser. It helps fund all aspects of the Garden, including programs for all ages, creating and maintaining the gardens themselves, and keeping this community treasure open while continually improving the experience for local and off-coast visitors year round. This year’s enticing Gala theme is The Four Seasons. Chef Alan Barnes of Ricolan Chef Services will supply a superb dinner. The Lighthouse Pub and Liquor Store has donated enough champagne for a bubbly welcome. Local jazz by the Steve Giltrow Trio is courtesy of The Hearing House. Intriguing auctions Silent plus Live with primo auctioneer Ed Hill – have been supported very generously by local businesses, artists and other donors. The list of auction items will emerge next week on the Garden’s website, www.coastbotanicalgarden.org and include a number of singular experiences, exquisite two- and three-dimensional artworks, and many choice surprises. Gala tickets are available from the Garden office by phone (604-740-3969), email (info@coastbotanicalDate garden.org) or at 5941 Mason Road, Sechelt. Price is $110, and a tax receipt for $60 will be mailed. Marty Blockberger, Botanical Garden manager

Battling the blues

Across Canada, millions are heading back to work, or school, after a busy holiday. January also signals the peak season for the “post-holiday blues” — feeling down as we return to the daily grind after a long vacation. The end of the holidays isn’t the only thing bogging people down. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, one in five Canadians experience a seasonal shift in mood and energy known as “winter blues” and about two percent

are affected by a type of depression called seasonal affective disorder (SAD). The good news is that there are natural ways to ward off a yearly recurrence of the blues. Here are some of our tips to help you regain your sprightly spirit: • Take a hike Winter is the perfect time to see nature on foot, snowshoe, skate or ski. Walking in nature reserves and parks is a great way to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors while switching up the sedentary winter lifestyle. Or, blaze a trail with trivia: Make it a social and educational outing by preparing some trivia about the area’s points of interest and species you might encounter. • Build a snow animal If Elsa agreed to build a snowman with her sister, maybe she wouldn’t have felt closed in and blue. Are you feeling snowed in as well? Instead of complaining about the snow that’s got you stuck indoors, turn glum to fun by putting on some gloves and heading to your nearest patch of snow. Let your imagination work its magic and build your favourite snow animal. No matter what the outcome, it will be a masterpiece well worth your time. • Watch the birds Spotting winter birds can bring tremendous joy and satisfaction, especially when they can be few and far between. There are many species to spot throughout winter, such as water birds like goldeneyes and mergansers, in addition to resident Canada geese and mallards along lakeshore or open water. You may even see birds of prey such as red-tailed hawks and falcons on light poles during daily commutes. Species like rock pigeons and gulls have adapted to survive in urban settings, so don’t be surprised to meet one of these species downtown!

Bruce Milne Mayor, District of Sechelt

I want to thank The Local for providing this space for elected officials in our community. This month, I would like to discuss the standing committees that will provide the structure for all District of Sechelt decisions Our new committee structure shares leadership roles, putting the qualities our electors recognized in the individuals selected for Council to good use. It will provide opportunities for Council members to gain experience, building a governing body with greater depth and balance. This approach aligns with democratic principles, with more opportunities for discussion and a second point of decision on all issues. It is human nature to agree with decisions we have made ourselves. If the body that decides on an issue is the same group that has made the recommendation, it is unlikely that any ‘sober second thought’ will occur. With a committee of four members

Darren Inkster, with Councillor Doug Wright serving as Vice-Chair. The issues of infrastructure (roads, wastewater, etc.), recreational amenities, our environment and future sustainability will be addressed in this forum. Councillors Siegers and Lutes will be members of this committee. Due to the over-arching or matrix nature of Finance, Culture and Economic Development issues, the committee considering these matters includes all members of Council. Decisions on finance issues will impact all of the work being done in the other committees. Conversely, the decisions recommended by the two standing committees will determine our financial plans and our success with economic development. Culture is about ‘who we are and how we do things’ and it is thus appropriate that all members of Council are involved in those discussions. I will Chair this committee, with Councillor Lutes serving as Vice-Chair. With a focus on open, inclusive and accountable decision making, Council looks forward to providing leadership that respects the values and vision of our community.

making recommendations to a Council of seven members, there is always the possibility of a different majority view. This will help ensure that our decisions are in the best interest of the community and avoid the ‘group think’ that sometimes emerges among people who work closely together. Regular committee meetings have been scheduled monthly, with committee chairs able to call special meetings to address timesensitive issues. The 2015 regular meeting schedule is available on Sechelt.ca. Committee appointments were made at our Inaugural Council Meeting. Council will review these appointments on an annual basis. Councillors Alice Lutes, Noel Muller, Darnelda Siegers and Mike Shanks will be members of our Planning and Community Development Committee. This committee, chaired by Councillor Shanks, with Councillor Muller serving as Vice-Chair, will deal with issues of new development, population growth and social issues such as policy on affordable housing, health, youth and day care. The Local - Thursday, January 15, 2015

Two weeks into the New Year, the regional district orientation for newly elected officials is over, and in early February they will be examining the SCRD budget. Please make a point of attending this first round of the budget meetings so you can witness staff proposals and recommendations and observe the directors’ due diligence as they consider each item proposed. The budget agenda will be on the SCRD website by the end of January, and the first round will take place February 3, 4, 5, and 10. When you go to the website, please fill in the SCRD constituent survey. Whenever a new group of people become a board, there are many ways to team build. Possibly the major success factor is a positive attitude on the part of all participants—as noticeably dem-

onstrated by the new SCRD board. It will be a challenge to keep this attitude for the four years of the term but I feel that this group will really step forward and work toward that goal. The budget will be their first challenge. For all local governments on the Coast, two major goals for the 2015 term are board transparency and public input on issues. Each elected group is analyzing how they can achieve this; one idea is town hall meetings to address contentious issues before they come to the board. Giving the public the opportunity to voice their positions before the final report or resolution goes to the board will allow the elected officials to be more efficient at committee meetings. Early in this term, all local governments will be examining their procedure bylaws to see how to implement enhanced public input. Please check the SCRD website and look in the righthand column at the top. Click on “agendas” to read past information about our func-

tions, and to see the upcoming agenda, located at the beginning of each function. Here are some of the pending budget issues: energy savings, regional economic development, 10-year water plan and metering, energy upgrades and improvements in recreational centers, next phase in the hospital expansion, new training requirements for volunteer fire departments, and funding requirements for SCRD involvement in Howe Sound planning. Other items will come forward as the federal and provincial governments change their policies and regulations requiring local government to improve safety requirements in facilities and equipment. Please contact me at 604741-2427 or e-mail me at garry.nohr@scrd.ca if you wish to discuss SCRD programs or plans. I will not be able to meet you at the Welcome Beach or Halfmoon Bay stores until near the end of February so please contact me if you would like to meet by appointment.

The first wastewater flowed into Sechelt’s Water Resource Centre (WRC) on January 8th. Limited flows were used to successfully test the WRC’s influent screens and grit separators. This water is now in holding tanks. On January 12th, the WRC’s de-

sign-build contractor, Maple Reinders, introduced ‘seed sludge’ from the Dusty Road Wastewater Treatment Plant to start the biological treatment process, the core of the new wastewater treatment operations. Clean water testing at the WRC, located at 5678 Surf

Circle, was completed in December. Wastewater process testing will continue for the month of January. When this testing is complete, the Ebbtide Treatment Plant will be shut down and the Dusty Road Plant will be placed on ‘stand by’. Submitted

shine Coast since the announcement of the show and the wedding dress sale has been drawing a lot of attention from past brides wanting to sell their gowns and future brides that need dresses! “Brides can find everything from a local venue to host their wedding, wedding planners to help with all the details, caterers to make sure everyone is fed and DJ’s to make sure the dance floor is full all night long” says Melissa Tripp owner of Coastal Weddings and Events, producers of the show. “Additionally, they can order invitations and favors, see photographers’ work, sample wedding cake, book a hairstylist and find accommodations for their guests all in one day.” Last year the event attracted over 60 brides and over 150 guests and this year promises to be even bigger with a larger fashion show and more opportunities to get brides all the information they need to plan their weddings.

What you need to know to plan a wedding menu components. Have an idea in mind! Most wedding venues will be able to showcase their property and make suggestions of how the venue can best service all your needs and the above components. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. It is likely the venue has several years of wedding hosting experience and may even be able to suggest options that will create even a better vision of your wedding day. With the above information, the venue organizer can certainly provide you with a fairly accurate estimate of the venue and event costs. And once booked, the next stage of your event takes place: inviting your guests to a perfect place. What fun! Submitted

can be appetizing focal points around the room and ensure all guests get a bite of what they like best. Family style Rustic and informal weddings have grown in popularity. Rather than food being brought to the guests or participants lining up in buffet lines, family-style dining allows guests to share conversation and pass the peas at the same time. Larger, rectangular tables allow more guests to sit with one another and serve themselves food from community plates located in the centre of the tables. Food and beverage pairings Food-forward wedding couples are offering guests mouthwatering appetizers matched with a cocktail. A slider and a craft beer or a dumpling and a shot of saki are examples of this trend. Non-traditional ‘fake’ cakes Instead of a multi-tiered cake or the cupcake fad that is starting to fizzle, couples are now opting for something new. Desserts that mimic the look of cake, but aren’t quite that combination of sponge and frosting are trending. Crepes, pies, cookies, and doughnuts are acceptable and can add a creative spark to the cake-cutting ceremony. When offered along with des-

sert stations, guests can certainly get their fill of sweet delights. Vegan and gluten-free options Chances are one or more people attending the reception will be on a restricted diet. Rather than relegate these guests to dining on side dishes and patchwork meals, certain couples are building entire offerings around vegan and gluten-free foods. Couples are getting cre-

Food options for your wedding guests

Gourmet comfort food People love familiar comfort foods, but now gourmet comfort foods are shaking up wedding receptions. Macand-cheese with gouda and brie or chicken pot pie with a puff-pastry crust are a few offerings that can add glamour to down-home cooking. Food with a show Instead of passed foods or buffet stations, couples are opting to make food an experience for guests. An oyster bar with a chef serving fresh seafood or a dessert master whipping up flambé is a feast for the eyes and mouth. Interesting buffet stations Keep guests on their toes with various meal stations. A bountiful display of artisanal cheeses, fruits and breads will be a cheese lover’s dream. These stations also

Once a couple has officially tied the knot, the newly recognized man and wife and all of their guests will retire to a party room where they can mingle, dance and enjoy a good meal. In the past, standard fare like prime rib and roasted chicken dominated wedding menus. But today’s weddings cater to people of various culinary tastes, and couples and their guests can expect more upscale and creative cuisine to be rolled out for wedding receptions. The following are a handful of the more popular trends with regard to wedding cuisine. Miniature bites Many people say good things come in small packages, and when it comes to miniature versions of favorite foods, they may be right. Instead of large meals that fill guests up fast, they can munch on smaller bites of their favourite dishes. How about a piece of meatloaf topped with whipped mashed potatoes? A cherry tomato with a small piece of mozzarella cheese makes a mini caprese salad. Turning favourite foods into bitesized adventures can add a touch of whimsy to the reception. Breakfast for dinner Some couples are circumventing high price tags for their weddings by choosing to hold the festivities at less expensive times of day. Brunch-themed weddings are a big hit with those who would much rather dine on a stack of pancakes than a dish of pasta. Omelette stations, croissants and a bevy of other breakfast table fare can be enjoyed any time of the day. Dim sum Dim sum allows guests to sample different foods without filling up. Carts of dumplings and other small plates of appetizers can be wheeled around so everyone can choose what they want and what they want to avoid.

emony starts (this may be 15 – 45 min depending on your vows). After the ceremony, guests gather for a reception: this is the in-between time that guests will need something to do, either a champagne and canapé reception or an area where they can mingle. The reception is followed by the dinner/lunch where your MC takes over and, with the assistance of the venue organizer, creates the flow to the meal and the dinner. Following dinner there are many options, although most choose to have the first dance and then party with the guests. IF a portion of the wedding is outside you MUST have plan B and the minimum is tenting. Think about these components and ask the venue organizer about these

the upper and lower end of your budget; some may surprise you with higher quality and service for not much more of an extra cost. Third, know the number of guests you intend to have. Offer this information to the venue organizer (this will also affect your budget) and look at the top end first: ask that the venue accommodate the largest number of guests you may have. Also have an idea on how many of your guests will require accommodation, and see if the venue or surrounding providers can accommodate your group. Fourth, have an idea or vision for your day, a theme or wish or dream. Most if not all weddings have the same flow: guests will gather for the ceremony, then the cer-

One of the main issues, and a major expense, in planning a wedding is feeding the guests. When it comes to choosing a caterer or planning a menu, Lina Jakobs from the Bonniebrook Lodge lists a number of factors you will need to keep in mind when approaching a venue for information. First, have a date or a date range that you can forward to the venue for availability. They may be able to accommodate your exact date or have options close to it. Second, be realistic about costs. Venues are not going to be able to provide the service at “do it yourself pricing”, so have a realistic budget in mind and make sure the venue knows what your range is. Look for venues that are in

Recently, a former arborist came into the museum with a fascinating inquiry. His quest began with a tree that is old enough, he believed, to be planted by the first European settler of the region. Naturally, he wanted to know the exact location of George Gibson’s original house. Gibson was an avid gardener who planted many fruit trees in the Lower Gibsons area long before eating local was anything but necessity. Initially, I thought that this would be an easy answer to give. I soon found out that some areas of Gibson’s life are chronicled in detail, while others are not. Research is a work of collaboration and endurance. As a result, I have an intense appreciation for researchers who can draw answers from what appears to be nothing. Collaboration comes in multiple parts: first, with the help of cataloguers who spent

years amassing relevant information and inputting it into the archival database. Painstaking, confusing, and often dry, this initial heave is invaluable to museum researchers, for whom the archives are frequently a first stop. The Gibsons Landing Story by Les Peterson is a much-referenced book here at the museum, and tucked in the back was a map of the old district lots and residences in Gibsons. Bingo. Collaboration also comes in the form of interacting with people, whose knowledge, though not written down and stored, is also invaluable. Like oral histories, this passed-down knowledge from Gibsons locals allowed me to corroborate information and narrow my search. By cross referencing Peterson’s map and the information from other researchers, I found my answer: Gibson’s original house (as opposed to his second home, which is better documented) was located between Molly’s Reach and lower Winegarden Park.

Gibsons Council seeks to avoid public arguments

On January 6, a bracelet found near the Sechelt post office was turned into the detachment. Owner may claim with detailed description, reference file 15-111. Between January 2 and 7, a thief gained entry into a business in the 600 block of School Road, Gibsons, and stole a large amount of frozen meat. The thief appears to have gained access by reaching through an unlocked window to unlock a door. The file is still under investigation. Overnight on January 9, a thief removed and stole a 12,000 pound power pull “Smitty Bilt Winch” and an “Iron Cross” push bar bumper from a vehicle parked in the 5600 block of Inlet Avenue, Sechelt. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 15-166.

On January 9, a coast resident reported being scammed after being befriended on a popular social media site by an unknown male suspect. The suspect convinced the resident that he needed financial assistance for a good cause and after sending the resident a fraudulent scanned image of his passport to “prove” his identity, the resident wired a large sum of money to a third party at the suspect’s request. A second large sum was wired to different third party a few days later, again at the suspect’s request. The suspect then requested another large sum of money at which point the resident grew suspicious. When the resident voiced these concerns, the suspect became even more demanding. The file is still under investigation. On January 9, a bike found in the 5600 block of Inlet Avenue, Sechelt, was turned in to police. Owner may claim with detailed description, reference file 15-175. On January 11, hikers in Smuggler’s Cove, Halfmoon Bay, reported spotting a cou-

Sechelt. The male tried several boxes until he was successful in opening one with the key. The male then tried opening a few more boxes, unsuccessfully, before walking away. Police made extensive patrols for the Caucasian male, described as about 18 years old, five feet six inches tall with a slim build but did not locate him. The male was wearing a white sweater with a red and black logo on the front, blue jeans and a backwards baseball cap. The mail boxes, which are not well marked with numbers, did not appear to have been tampered with or damaged. All residents are reminded to be aware of any mail that appears to be missing or tampered with.

On the afternoon of January 11, a thief smashed the driver’s side window of a vehicle parked in the 5300 block of Snodgrass Road, Sechelt, and stole the faceplate of a stereo. No other items were stolen and no other damage was reported.

On January 12, police dealt with a suspicious incident after a witness reported seeing an unfamiliar young male trying a key in various mail boxes located on Marine Way at Trail Avenue,

Gibsons vandalisim Police believe they are zeroing in on vandals who used small explosives to damage 11 mailboxes in Lower Gibsons over a period of a few weeks in early December. “We had a mischief spree,” the Sunshine Coast’s new RCMP Detachment Commander, Staff Sgt. Vishal Mathura, told Gibsons Council Jan. 6. The vandals used what Mathura called “air-banger cartridges —a little explosive used primarily to scare off bears when you’re in the wild.” Mathura showed council the kind of device that had been used, which looked like a three-inch-long firecracker. “We do have surveillance photos of our suspects,” he

Astrologer

Tip of the Week: The fourth and last of the series of 0-degree New Moons in a row occurs on January 20th at 5:14 am PST at 0 Aquarius 09. The first of the four occurred on October 23rd coinciding with the Solar Eclipse in Scorpio. All other factors aside, this sequence of energy where 0 degrees is symbolic of new beginnings, the alpha to the omega, represents a powerful foreshadow for our times. It will not take a lot of convincing that 2015 is lined up to be a big year. By way of synchronicity, it is during this span of time that we have and continue to observe with awe and wonder, and a mix of glee and dread as the price of oil plummets. Whether you define the cause as economic and political warfare or otherwise, it is a clear indication of newly emerging realities as the balance of power all over the world is shifted and shaken. The upcoming Astrological events will satisfy the omega end where the circle meets and shifts to the next rung in the eternal spiral of cycles. On the heels of this slow and deep 4-beat bass drum rhythm of 0-degree Moons, we will experience two higher beats and

Virgo (Aug 23 – Sep 22) A creative cycle is underway. Art, innovation and invention are likely expressions of it. This wave will not only continue it will increase over the coming weeks. This presents a big opportunity to at least make drafts and outlines if not outright completions of projects. This is a call to forge ahead. Make a clean break with how it used to be. Libra (Sep 22 – Oct 22) Securing you home base over the past few weeks has felt right. Tending to the final details now is ideal. Make way for a creative and social cycle that will be sparked by the New Moon. Circumstances will push you to take the lead to make things happen. This is the ideal recipe for a party or social gathering and for inspired self-expression too. Scorpio (Oct 22 – Nov 21) Your innate creative genius is already receiving a sweet stir and it will soon be shaken awake. Your best re-

your will and intentions to outcomes you desire. The key is to clarify your longterm goals and begin to build your momentum now. Gemini (May 21 – Jun 21) Replacing old commitments with new ones continues. This includes emphasis on developing talents as opposed to worrying about security. By striking the balance, worry gets dropped. So, summon your imagination and your will to activate creative and artistic projects. These will inspire you, increase confidence and reduce stress. Cancer (Jun 21 – Jul 22) Investigations to decipher who has what you want will shift into higher gear this week. The list can include talents, resources or opportunities. A search for something new and different is on your mind. You are willing to push and persevere as necessary. That you are looking is clear, so define more precisely what for. Ask the universe for help, it is known to deliver. Leo (Jul 22 – Aug 23) A mix of new social outreach and a more sobering focus upon details has been keeping you busy. You are poised to expand your horizons due to pioneering initiatives last year. In the interim some significant shifts have occurred both within and without and these continue. Focus to increase your social scope and decipher your best new territory.

sults will come from letting go of the details and simply allowing the creative spirit to inspire you. Make room for intuitions and epiphanies to pour in unedited. You can clean it up later. Sagittarius (Nov21–Dec21) Already a rush of new thoughts is stimulating your mind. This trend will increase and accelerate over the coming days and weeks. You are being called to make a larger contribution to the world at this time. Doing so will ignite your sense of purpose and passion. If you are not clear what to do, just ask with sincerity and expect answers quickly. Capricorn (Dec21–Jan19) Taking new leads and initiatives continues. Your focus has turned to the future and you want to know what constitutes good investments. Sometimes, the first thing to do is clear away the old or step back from commitments that do not serve or meet you. If they do you know it already so whatever is unclear should be recon-
