Through my coops at various planning departments I was able to gain expereince in how planners and communities interact through public meetings, conversations with citizens, developers and other emplyess of the city. In addition to processing permits, applications and answering general planning questions from the public, I was able to complete many long term projects that greatly benefited the planning departments overall goals and objectives. The following pages highlight various maps, projects and documents I was tasked to create which I hope highlight my interest in making the information visually engaging and easy to understand.

As part of a preliminary look at how the community development department should administer and handle patio seating on public right of ways, I created a document outlining design concepts based on research I did in contacting other nearby municipalties for how they handled similar projects. The map to the right was used as a graphic to show the watersheds of Colerain Township. In addition the maps on the following page were created in order for city officials to see where crime statistics, road conditions, vacancies, foreclosures, etc.were for the entire township. I hoped to make an easy to read map to show this data.

Connections Adobe Software, Sketching | Studio Analysis and Proposal In this studio course we were assigned to analyze the area north of Liberty Street in Over the Rhine, Cincinnati. Our group focused on the connections from uptown and the central business district and saw the opportunity for a unique public space to exist in this area. These maps were made in GIS and Illustrator as part of our analysis process. I made the sketches on the adjacent page to illustrate what our proposal for the Brewery District Plaza site would look like as part of a Over-The-Rhine Ovver-The-Rhine poster for our final presentaton. Elevations of Proposed Mixed Use Development These elevations were made in Photoshop. They show the proposed mixed use building with a parking lot in the rear from two different street level views. This neighborhood business district lacked sufficient parking and this proposal provides a parking structure as well as a building for retail, restaurant, or office space. A pedestrian walkway connects the parking area with the town center.

Working with a group for our studio we were assigned a redevelopment project of a part of Mt. Airy Forest in Cincinnati. Our group designed a site plan and made these two posters highlighing the residential (multi family and single family) and the mixed use aspects of our community known as Air Lift Park.

This site, located in downtown Cincinnati, is currently being used as surface parking for commuters who work in the area. After analyzing its strengths and weaknesses, I designed a site plan that utilized the potential of the surrounding area. Two mixed use, office/retail, complexes would be constructed with below ground parking and two residential complexes would be built as well to house the potential of new residents that may be attracted to the area. The renderings provide a graphic representation of the proposed development. A 3D model shows the proposed redevelopment in relation to the surrounding buildings.

Internship | Future Blooms, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful
Before
After
|
During the summer of 2013 I interned with Future Blooms, a part of Keep Cincinnati Beautiful. This program was developed in order to reduce crime in urban areas where vacancy was prevalent. Our objective was to paint windows, doors, awnings, and flower-boxes on abandoned and vacant buildings in neighborhoods throughout Cincinnati. This process encouraged economic development and created a sense of place for the communities. These photos show this process, before and after.
|
As an intern for Future Blooms, I wanted to utilize my knowledge as an urban planning student in order to help the program. Working with another intern our idea was to create these six maps of the neighborhoods in which Future Blooms works in the most. These maps were made in GIS and Adobe Illustrator and laminated. They show the buildings and roads. The lamination allows Future Blooms the ability to mark the buildings they have painted, still need to paint, or potential buildings for future work in each neighborhood.
