Dear Brooklyn Free Speech TV Producers, On behalf of BRIC, thank you for your rich contributions to the Brooklyn Free Speech channel. Your individual voices each represent an important aspect of Brooklyn. Tonight we are thrilled to celebrate you, your talents, and your stories. For more than two decades, BRIC has been home to Brooklyn’s Public Access television network. We are proud and honored to offer education programs and facility services to enable the creation of community media and amplify individual voices. The B Free Awards were created in 2014 to acknowledge the extraordinary work each of you puts in to your programs as well as your tireless commitment to Public Access. Three seasons later, the B Free Awards continue to evolve, and the free speech channels continue to thrive. We’re honoring not just freedom of speech, but YOU and what you bring to the community through each of your unique voices. Congratulations and thank you to all the honorees. We can’t wait to see what you will bring to the Brooklyn and BRIC community next year! Sincerely,
Leslie Griesbach Schultz President BRIC

WHAT ARE THE B FREE AWARDS?
Founded in 1988 and celebrating its 28th year as Brooklyn’s Public Access television station, Brooklyn Free Speech provides Brooklyn residents with an opportunity to voice their ideas, hopes, dreams, and aspirations to their community on its four channels. The B Free Awards are meant to celebrate the diversity and excellence in Brooklyn Free Speech television programming, and to pay tribute to the dedicated producers who share these programs with the community.
HOW WERE THE AWARDS CURATED?
The 2016 B Free Awards honorees represent a variety of programs that showcase Brooklyn’s talent, address needs in the community, and embody free speech. A producer was allowed to submit a program for consideration in up to two categories. Submissions must have aired between January 1 and December 31, 2015. Here at Brooklyn Free Speech we put careful thought into the judging process. Before considering honorees, we had long discussions about the qualities that best represent the values of our community: Persistence, commitment, dedication, and imagination. We looked for shows that advanced the mission of community media through their excellence, through the audiences they serve, through the energies of those involved. Most impor tantly, we wanted to create a set of values based on community, not on which producer had the most money for production. While only a few people will hold a trophy, we truly value and respect the work of all those who are honored in every category.
