Timber Treatments Our traditional building methods combined with a predominantly damp, temperate climate causes the UK housing stock to suffer some of the highest levels of risk from insect and fungal attack to structural timbers. It is considered 'good practice' in building design to pretreat timber with preservatives as a lifetime precaution against dry rot or woodworm. Unfortunately, most traditional buildings (and a lot of relatively modern ones too) do not have the benefit of such protection and this, combined with poor maintenance, leads to many cases of timber decay being identified during housing surveys. The Wykamol range of remedial wood preservatives and masonry biocides include some of the longeststanding quality brand names in the UK market. BORON RODS Boron Rods are cylindrical implants composed entirely of anhydrous boric oxide. They contain the maximum level of borate preservative available in rod form (1kg of Boron Rods yields 1.7kg boric acid when dissolved). For use as a wood preservative to control wood rotting fungi and wood boring beetles in new and existing structural and joinery timbers. WYKABOR 10 CUT END Wykabor 10 cut end is an aqueous wood preservative based on disodium octaborate and benazalkonium chloride. Pressure treated timber has a high performance envelope of protection which where possible should be maintained. Sometimes the cutting of treated timber is unavoidable, breaching this envelope and impairing the level of performance. Examples include on-site drilling of bolt holes, cutting to length or notching. The application of a cut end treatment such as WYKABOR 10 CUT END restores protection.

WYKAMOL BOWER BEAMS Any joist or beam end in direct contact with a wet wall will eventually succumb to fungal attack and decay (rot) thus loosing its strength, it may even break. Should this happen the problem of replacement is expensive and time consuming. NOT ANY MORE!!! The BOWER BEAM, manufactured in 2mm KHR steel to BS4360 by Wykamol and protected by their SUPAGALV finish, in excess of BS2989, can be used to effect a quick, cheap and easy but secure and long lasting replacement. Independent tests have shown that the BOWER BEAM is capable of withstanding loads in excess of the design loads of the wooden joists they are supporting which will in turn, be isolated from the source of the dampness and further risk.

Brush/Spray: 1 L / 8 - 10 m2 of wood surface per coat (2 coats normally required) Target ‘boron’ retentions are between 0.1 - 0.4 % BAE (boron Acid equivalent) depending on final durability requirements and service conditions (severity of exposure to wetting). For most external factory coated joinery made from European Redwood ~ 15 L / m2 is recommended (equivalent to 0.2 % BAE). For standard dimensions this uptake can be achieved by 30 - 60 second immersions or a similar period in a deluge coater.
