hen someone asks me what I do for a living I usually tell them that I live every little girls dream. I could just tell them that I am the Editor in Chief of a bridal magazine that focuses specifically on beauty and fashion. But I never do… when someone asks me what I do for a living I tell them that I wake up every morning and I get to play with makeup and hair, and beautifully created gowns for a girl’s most important day. I get to travel around the country and meet amazing people and I get to work with some of my very best friends day in and day out. I am unbelievably blessed. According to my mom I had my wedding planned when I was 6 and like just like Liv and Emma from the movie bride wars I would dress up and play wedding day with my little sister. It was the start of something that grew right from my heart, it was passion. From the time that I was really young I have had a passion for all things love and romance; for you see I am one of those truly hopeless romantics and the thought of finding your prince and falling madly in love always makes me a little giddy. Disney may have played a role in my thinking as a child but as I grew up I found a love for the written word and thanks to my grandmother I found a love for the great romances. They were always stories filled with love and passion and usually happily ever after. This is the first issue of Bridal Beauty and I hope that it will inspire as much passion in you as it does in me. Every person who works at this magazine has a passion and a love for what they do (it is a job requirement). And now that you have fallen in love with your very own Prince Charming I hope that my team and I will be there to guide you through this major journey in your life, and straight to the start of your happily ever after. Your wedding day should be one of the happiest days of your life, trust me when I say you will not remember everything but for me I know that the one thing I remember is the look that was on my husband to be’s face the first time he saw me in my dress with my perfect hair and perfect makeup ready to

become his wife. He told me later that he had never seen anything more beautiful than me at that moment. I want that for all of you. I want you to have that perfect moment when you look at him and you just know that you are his whole world. I would love Bridal Beauty to become like a good friend to you on this journey. I want you be able to pick it up every month and read the latest makeup trends from the amazing Troy Jensen, the must have supporting cast article from Meg, the newest hair tricks from Kristine or this month’s Say I do to the Shoe section from Susie. These are some of my best friends and I want to share them with you because let’s face it when it comes to your wedding the more friends that are willing to help you distress the better! This part of your life will be crazy no doubt it is one of the shortest times with the most packed in to it. The stress is high, but just remember to breathe, cause at the end of that crazy day the only thing that truly matter is looking over at the man you love and realizing that today you became his wife and he is yours forever. Best Wishes,

Amanda Laurence Amanda Laurence, Editor-In-Chief

Cover Look January is all about Metallic’s and Gold’s! Inspired by thick liners and bronzes we used only high end luxury makeup companies. Playing up the eyes with white iridescent corners and dark metallic shadows, beautifully thick lashes and a jet black liner were used to make the eyes pop. Perfectly shaped brows were complemented by a strong contour and nude matt lips. Valerie Beverly Hills, Urban Decay, Winks, and many other luxury cosmetics companies helped us achieve our desired look.

This months Excutive Beauty Editor is Makeup Artist Susan Giordano. Read on to discover how she got her start and her bridal beauty must haves. With her consistently beautiful makeup both on the runway and on the red carpet, Susan Giordano is one of the leading talents in the beauty industry today. Known for her unique style that unifies glamour with ease, she is frequently called upon to make runway trends more accessible to today’s woman. In her over 20 years of experience, she has had the pleasure of working with some of the most recognizable faces in the world. In 2012 Susan launched Giordano Beauty, a collection of color cosmetics, skin care, bath & body and fragrances. She is determined to demystify the process of beauty with a candid, no-nonsense approach. “It doesn’t have to be so complicated. Really”. The collection is available at the Giordano Beauty boutique in Hastings on Hudson NY and at giordanobeauty.com We sat down with Susan to learn all about her and what she love about being a makeup artist check out her answers below; WHEN DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER YOUR LOVE FOR THE WORLD OF MAKE-UP AND BEAUTY?

I had an Aunt who was an Avon Lady and I remember playing with her makeup kit at a very young age. I remember it as a faux crocodile box with lots of tiny little lipsticks and shadows and it made such an impression on me. I grew up in a glamorous family. It was unheard of to present yourself to the public without a tidy hair do, nice clothes and at least some lipstick. You didn’t have to spend hours getting ready -- who had the time? You just needed to know how to pull it together in minutes WHAT WOULD BE ONE OF THE CHALLENGES YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

moment but it seems as though one day, there were no longer models on magazine covers. I have been doing makeup for magazines half my life so it was a natural transition to do celebrities for magazines. I never sought out celebrities as clients but in spite of that, I wound up with quite a few! YOU DO MAKEUP ON TONS OF CELEBRITIES EVERY YEAR FOR THE RED CARPET. WHAT DO YOU THING IS THE BEST WAY TO ADAPT A RED CARPET LOOK FOR A BRIDES WHITE CARPET DAY?

For me, brides look best with soft pretty makeup that is not easily dated. The worst thing is to look at a wedding picture and say “I see The fashion industry is very you got married in 1987!”. I have competitive and always looking for something new. To stay current, you seen some tragic examples of brides wearing trendy makeup or need to learn how to reinvent yourself without losing the integrity borrowing red carpet looks that just of what you have to offer. YOU’VE WORKED WITH A LOT OF CELEBRITY CLIENTELE, CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THAT “IT” MOMENT WHEN YOU MADE THE JUMP UP TOWARDS BEING A CELEBRITY MAKE-UP ARTIST? I honestly don’t remember a precise

don’t suit them. Keep in mind that while this is your Big Day, you still need to look like you. Trends need to be diluted so that you get the perfect blend of classic and modern. If the trend is glittery metallics, for instance, you can water it down to soft shimmer in flattering shades of precious metals. Your makeup should have a seamless quality and never look like it’s just sitting on top of your face. But you need makeup! You are being photographed and you need makeup that will both photograph well and look great in person. I am always amazed at how some brides will spend endless amounts of money on flowers or a cake, for instance, and then balk at the price of a makeup application. Keep in mind that while the flowers will die and the cake will be eaten, your pictures will be around FOREVER. Find a makeup artist who has a lot of experience working for the camera and consider the fee money well spent. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BEAUTY PRODUCT?

Skin™. I love a beautiful, glowing complexion, it’s my signature as a makeup artist. I perfected the look by mixing up concoctions in my kitchen and I hit upon the perfect formula many years ago. I started using it on shoots and the models loved it so much they asked where they could buy it. When I told them I made it up myself, they asked if I could bottle it to sell to them. I started out selling tiny bottles of Satin Skin™ with hand made labels and eventually editors, hairdressers and wardrobe stylists on shoots became interested. Fashion people are a tough crowd so you know you have something good when they start asking for it. It took a while, but I eventually hired a graphic designer to create the packaging and logo for my product and it has since been written about in Allure, Glamour, Womens Wear Daily and a number of fashion and beauty blogs. DO YOU HAVE A SECRET WEAPON MAKE-UP TOOL? I am not even sure I can do makeup without non-latex sponge wedges. If you wet them and thoroughly wring them out, you get a great texture for applying foundation and I use them every where to soften lines for that seamless look. As an added bonus, the dry sponges are great for getting spots out of clothes, especially those annoying white deodorant marks. WHAT IS THE MOST OVERLOOKED FEATURE ON THE FACE?

My favorite beauty product is one that I created myself. It’s a liquid moisturizer called Satin

Not sure if overlooked is the right description but I am going to say eyebrows. I think most women do not realize how important well groomed brows are. They have the ability to change your entire look -- and not necessarily for the better! Well shaped brows will open up your eyes and take years off your face. My biggest cosmetic pet peeve is

when women go to a nail salon and have their eyebrows waxed. Yes, it’s cheap. But there’s a reason for that. Two things I need to address here. 1. In a lot of these places, you can’t even get a good manicure -- why would you let them alter the shape of your brows? If they take too much off or misshape them, they may never grow back. 2. The skin around the eye area is extremely delicate so I would be very careful about using hot wax and then ripping it off. I have seen women bearing scars from skin coming off with the wax. If you want expert brow grooming, go to an expert. You are not paying for the amount of time it takes. You are paying for the expertise. And once it’s done, you can keep them up yourself. It’s as simple as looking in the mirror every day and plucking out any hair you did not see the day before. Really. HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE A TYPICAL BRIDE?

Skin Prepped with: Giordano Beauty Satin Skin ™ Eye Shadow: NARS Strada Blush: Smashbox Flush Lipstick: YSL Pink in Paris

I’m not sure there’s such a thing as a typical bride. But I do believe that the tone is set at the makeup trial. Your bride needs to have confidence in you. She needs to know that you are a pro and that no matter what goes wrong on the wedding day (and believe me, something always does!) she can count on you to help her through it and know that she will look her radiant best. Doing makeup is a very personal thing.

You’re touching someone and whatever is inside of you is being communicated through that touch. If you are nervous, unsure, hesitant -- she feels it. If you are confident and easy going, she will feel that too. IN TERMS OF LIFE, AFTER A LONG DAY, WHERE DO YOU GO TO UNWIND? DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE SPA? My favorite spa is in my bathroom! After a long, hard day there is no place like home. I love a fragrant bath with exotic salts. I like to light candles and and get into the tub with my Kindle.

THING ABOUT YOU THAT WE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU? I had my first paying makeup job at the age of 14. I did my Aunt’s makeup for her wedding and her next door neighbor loved it so much, she asked who her makeup artist was. She was a little startled when she found out it was a 14 year old kid but she hired me! HOW DO YOU DEFINE BEAUTY?

Beauty is perception. For me, it means caring about the way you look. It’s about taking the time and making the effort to present your best self. It’s about confidence.

Having worked with and been in the company of many of the “most beautiful women in the world” I can tell you for a fact that beauty truly does come from WHAT WOULD within. It’s BE ONE UNIQUE amazing how your perception of

someones physical beauty can change dramatically once an ugly personality starts emerging. WHAT KIND OF MAKE-UP TRENDS CAN WE EXPECT FOR THE SPRING BRIDE?

I love this look from Dolce & Gabbana. The color, the glow, the rosebud mouth -- it’s everything a bride should strive for. What

makes this more trendy is the dark liner gently ticked up in the corners of the eyes. I also saw some great pastels on the eyes. Two of my favorite looks were a pale gold and a beautiful, shimmery lilac. YOU’VE DONE SUCH BEAUTIFUL WORK ON SO MANY CELEBRITIES. WHO HAVE YOU NOT WORKED ON THAT YOU’D KILL TO GET INTO YOUR CHAIR?

Well, there are a few that I would love to get in my chair. But only because I think they can look so much better! I will refrain from naming names because I do not wish to offend anyone :) I do love Jennifer Lawrence, though. I think she always looks very beautiful and it seems as though a lot of that comes from within. That’s exactly the kind of celebrity I enjoy working with. NOT ALL BRIDES HAVE THE

MONEY FOR PROFESSIONAL SKIN TREATMENTS. WHAT ARE SOME TRICKS A BRIDE CAN DO AT HOME TO HELP HER SKIN LOOK HER BEST ON HER BIG DAY?

The most important thing you can do for your skin is exfoliate. Start a couple of months before the wedding and do it at least once a week. I am a big fan of Vitamin C serums. They really make a difference if used diligently and have a brightening effect on the skin. Look for one that has at least 10% Vitamin C and use it twice a day. Always remove every trace of makeup at night with a good cleanser and make sure to invest in a good moisturizer suitable for your skin type. And don’t forget your body! Use a good sugar scrub once a week and be sure to moisturize and treat thick skinned areas (like heels and elbows) with a heavy duty cream, like shea butter.

Powder Compact. Use it to soften hot spots, like forehead, chin and nose. You want to glow, not glare. Also good for quickly checking teeth after eating. I’m a fan of the MAC Blot powders because they take down shine without adding any color.

SUSAN’S

Eyelash Curler. You can have the longest lashes but if they are pointing straight down, no one will know it. I am a big fan of the tiny Japanese designed curlers that work on every eye shape and are great for getting those lashes on the outer corners. JAPONESQUE

MUST HAVE FOR

EVERY BRIDE Indelible Gel Liner. A thin line placed close to lashes will really accentuate your eyes in photos. And it will stay put until you take it off. SMASHBOX JET SET WATERPROOF EYELINER

Facial Scrub. Exfoliating your skin creates a smooth, glowing surface for makeup application. GIORDANO BEAUTY GLYCOLIC FACIAL POLISH Concealer. For obvious reasons. Halfway through the party, you might want to freshen up under your eyes.. RCMA CONCEALERS (USUALLY AVAILABLE AT THEATRICAL MAKEUP STORES)

Stick Foundation. Great for quick repair and especially good for cleaning up around lip line when you reapply your lipstick. BOBBI BROWN Fragrance. For me, you are never fully done without it. L’ARTISAN MUR ET MUSC

Individual Lashes. The great thing about individual lashes is that you don’t even know you’re wearing them. They’re dropped right on top of your own lashes and they give you big, beautiful, expressive eyes that look amazing in pictures. I use Ardell Duralash Knot Free Lashes in Short. The short ones are long enough, trust me. I rarely have to use Mediums and the Longs are completely out of the question. You want Knot Free because they lay flat and you can’t see them. ARDELL DURALASH KNOT FREE Water Proof Mascara. Even if you think you’re not going to cry, you might! Test drive the mascara, though. A lot of waterproof formulas are very thin and make you look like you have three lashes. One I like is COVER GIRL LASH BLAST VOLUME Lip Scrub & Lip Balm. There is nothing worse than dry, flaky lips. Especially if you are wearing a berry colored lipstick. The deeper colors have a tendency to highlight imperfections. Keep lips in good condition by using a moisturizing scrub and a conditioning balm. SARAH HAPP Blush. I can’t emphasize enough how important blush is. And please, blush the color of dry toast is NOT natural looking. Blotting Papers. The ones without I mean, who blushes that color? You want powder on them. These are great something in the pinky/berry family. for quick touch ups without getting GIORDANO BEAUTY CINNAMON a powder build up. Also great for ROSE blotting lipstick. a Sculpting MASTERPIECE When sculpting your face there are a few key terms that are important to remember: Highlighting- using a lighter than complexion shade. This is done to bring forward a feature on your face. Examples- nose, cheek bones and forehead Contouring- using a darker than complexion shade This is down to push back features of your face. Examples- temples, hollows of the cheeks and sides of nose. REMEMBER- light brings forward and dark pushes back When sculpting your face everyone has their own techniques; however there are a couple hidden secrets that I am going to fill you in on so you can get the most out of your makeup. Tip #1- Contour first! Even before foundation. Take a cream foundation that is about 2 shades darker than your skin tone and apply it at your temple area, cheek hollows and the sides of the nose. Contouring first gives the face a very natural chiseled look. Now remember, not every facial shape needs everything listed above contoured, and some need even more than that. When you look in the mirror, figure out what you want to “push back.” If you have a double chin, contour from the bottom of your chin and downwards to shadow it. If you have a very narrow face, then the contour on the hollows of your

cheeks could be way less than someone who has a much more rounded face. Do not contour everything on your face because you think you need it. In reality you might be taking away a feature that is very flattering on your facial shape. Tip #2- Next is foundation. Foundation has got to be one of the hardest parts of the overall makeup application. One color usually is not the right color, so don’t get frustrated! Mixing and matching to get the perfect shade is well worth it once you find what matches perfectly. Apply your foundation over the contouring you just sculpted and blend to ensure a natural contour. Remember liquid foundation is not for everyone! Unless you have perfectly flawless skin like Jessica Biel then liquid is

probably not for you. Try covering a blemish with liquid foundation. It’s nearly impossible! So if you have problematic skin lean more towards the “heavier” coverage, like creams. Tip #3-Highlight by using either a lighter cream foundation or a light powder. Creams always look more natural and are also easier to blend. Highlight your cheek bones and the bridge of the nose, as well at the center of your forehead. This is making those areas more prominent. Your blush should be placed in-between the highlight and the contour if everything is done correctly. Facial sculpting isn’t going to change your face; it will just give it the more chiseled and youthful appearance everyone wants.

He will gaze into your sparkling eyes and be taken away by your incredible lashes. After all this your big day and everything should be complete. When it comes to false lashes they can be found everywhere. At one time it was thought that false lashes were just for models and celebrities. These lashes were only for red carpet events and modeling runways. Well your wedding day is your big red carpet event and your celebrity moment. False eyelashes will complement your face and give you the confidence you need to feel as prestigious as any celebrity out there. If you are not completely convinced here are some tips and reasons why false lashes can help you look absolutely flawless:

Why Lash Out? False lashes can complete your look unlike regular mascara. False lashes can give definition, length, and volume where mascara is unable too. They come in many styles and lengths which can help you complete your look for your wedding day. When applied correctly these lashes can look natural and complement your facial features. If you are not into heavy eye makeup and have problems with your mascara clumping this can be

a great solution for you. The look will also make your eyes look brighter, younger, and make your eyes sparkle.

Head To A Pro If you have never tried false lashes it would be a good idea to try them before the big day. This way you can give them a trial run. False lashes can be complicated if you try and apply them yourself. A professional can help you decide on what size and length would fit your facial features. Also there is a possibility your eyes could be sensitive to the glue or you could have an allergic reaction. By applying them weeks before the wedding you will be able to know whether false lashes are for you. This will give you plenty of time to heal from an allergic reaction. It will also help you decide on which false lashes you would like to go with.

Know Your Options When it comes to false lashes there are different options. T here are two types of lashes that can be used to make you look stunning. T he difference between these two lashes are the way that they are applied. The first one is called a strip lash these lashes are attached to a band. The second type of lashes are called an individual lash. With the individual lash it is layered into your existing lashes either by clusters or single strands. Strip lashes are usually easier for those who are trying false lashes for the first time. These lashes come with an applicator and are easier to apply. It is also suggested that if you are having problems applying these lashes that the can be cut into strips and applied into section. Another trick is to apply mascara to your natural lashes

first and use the false lashes to fill in the areas that are missing an abundance of lashes. This will help make your lashes look fuller. Once they have been applied you can curl the false lashes to help them blend in with your natural lashes. At this point you will be able to apply mascara to complete your look. Starter kits for these type of false lashes are availble at your local drugstore or makeup counter. The prices can vary between $5- $100 depending on the design you are looking for. There are several styles to choose from when it comes to false lashes. They can also vary in color and dimensions. These type of lashes should last an entire evening. Although you may want to wake up with these stunning false lashes it is not suggested to wear them while you are sleeping. They can carefully be removed with petroleum jelly before bed time. The lashes can be stored and used up to 3 times before having to purchase a new pair. The other type of false lashes can be applied by a professional who is certified in applying synthetic lashes. These type of lashes can last up to 3 weeks and can be worn during the honeymoon. Since they are semi permanent they will not need to be removed at night. They can come in various lengths and sizes. They can also help your lashes look fuller, thicker, and can extend your lashes to phenomenal lengths. Although the price of these lashes can range from $150-$600 they will feel the most natural. It is also possible with these lashes to get them touched up or repaired so that they will last longer. Touch ups can range from $50- $300 depending on the false lashes you have chosen. When it comes to your big day nothing can complete your look and make you look absolutely stunning like false lashes.

Part your hair to the side and using Wella Professional Velvet Amplifier apply it to the hair and blow dry smooth. If you have wavy to curly hair, using a flat iron straighten your hair at this point to give it the smooth texture you are looking for.

Next, to smooth out all of the fly aways; starting at the ends of your hair, lightly apply a pump of Wella Professionals Mirror Polish. Then section your hair at the crown and tease the crown of your hair.

Wearing an Alexander McQueen gown, Emma stone looked absolutely stunning at the SAG awards. Celebrity hair stylist from Wella Professionals, Mara Roszak and Celebrity makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua, from Chanel created the perfect look for her red carpet event. Here is a breakdown of the beautifully sleek and modern 50’s updo!

Emma’s Makeup: To create Emma Stones makeup look Kara recommends that you use Chanel Perfectionj Lumiere Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup in your shade and the PhotoReady Translucent Finishing Powder by Revlon. Using Chanel’s Exclusive Creation Blush Horizon create those bright red carpet ready cheeks. Stone’s Dewy eyes were created by Revlon ColorStay 16H Eyeshadow Quad in Moonlit along with Revlon’s Liquid Eye Pen swept across the top lash line followed by Chanel’s Inimitable Intense Mascara. Last but not least her lips are the finest from Chanel! Kara used Chanel Precision Lip Deliner in Framboise and also Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Sheer Lipshine in San D’Eau. All together, Mara Roszak and Kara Yoshimoto Bua created a master piece using Emma Stone as their own personal palette.

The Bridal Beauty Question

Q.

How do I get is the perfect brows for my face shape?

A.

ROUND

HEART

Perfect Brows

1. There are 3 things to remember when creating the perfect brow; a. Your brows should start straight up from the inside corner of your eye. b. Look straight out and the middle of the arch should line up with the outside of your iris. c. By making a diagonal line going straight out from the outside corner of your eye towards your hairline; you should determine where the brow should end.

LONG

2. The beginning of your brows should always be thicker than the middle or the end. It is a gradual transition from start to finish and from thick to thin. 3. Style matters!! This isn’t the 20’s anymore. Eyebrows end sooner and we like for them to look real. Painting/filling in your brows everyday is a hassle and they almost never look realistic.

DIAMOND

Tips Don’t Shave Off Your Brows!! To those of you, who like to pencil on your brows every morning, STOP IT! Let your brows grow and see the light before taking a razor to them.

Don’t over-pluck your brows Waxing is not for everyone. If you have “loose” skin it tends to hurt more because it is pulling your skin along with those unwanted hairs off of your face. Maybe look into threading if waxing is not working for you.

You should ALWAYS have these three things in your makeup bags: o Brow pencil- use a color that is one shade lighter than your brows to ensure you don’t over-fill.

SQUARE

o Eye shadow- tip! Add a little ash-green to the tone you are using and you will match your brow color perfectly. o Clear gel- sometimes this is called “brow fix” and is used to keep those brows in place.

6 things to do to prep your

Big Day Hair

Your wedding day has almost arrived and everything is in place. You also have finally made a decision on the type of hairstyle you will wear. It’s now time to get those last minute details put in place. For this special occasion you have decided to go with an Updo. As you prepare yourself to be the most beautiful bride who has ever glided down the aisle you stop to think for a minute. Is there anything I need to know when preparing for an updo? Here is a list of what every bride should know about going to the salon on her wedding day:

1

To Wash or Not To Wash: When preparing to get

an updo you should wash your hair the night before you go to the salon. Washing your hair right before your appointment will strip your hair of the natural oils making it hard to manage. If you wash your hair the night before this will allow enough time for the natural oils to build up. In return your hair will be easier to control and style.

2 3

What To Wear:

You should wear comfortable clothing to your appointment. It is also important to wear a shirt that can be easily removed without destroying your updo. Button down shirts or ones that zip would be the best solution. As these shirts will not go over your head and mess up your hair.

Know What You Want:

You should have already decided on what exactly you want out of an updo. If you have not already discussed this with your wedding hairstylist you may have to bring a picture. By bringing a picture of the hairstyle your stylist will be able to know exactly what you are wanting. Also when picking an updo you should pick a style that your hair texture is similar too. Along with picking a updo that matches the same color hair and length as yours.

4 5

No Pain No Gain:

Expect a little pain while getting your hair done. There will be a little poking and pulling going on. You may also feel like you are getting stabbed in the head when your stylist is applying the pins. This is all part of the process. Just remember you are going to look great afterwords.

Appointments:

It is a good idea to schedule an appointment with your hairstylist in advance. This way your wedding hairstylist will be prepared to get you down the aisle on time and looking fabulous. Making a surprise visit to your salon in hopes of getting an appointment at the last

minute is probably not going to go so well. It will most likely end in disaster. You could be delayed, your stylist could be out of town, or you may be unable to have an appointment at all.

6

Pricing and Tipping:

Make sure you have established a price before your updo prep begins. This will keep you from getting any surprises when you receive the bill. Also do not forget to tip your hair stylist. The usually amount that a hairstylist gets tipped is around 20 percent. If your absolutely pleased with what your hairstylist has done with your hair you are also welcome to tip more then 20 percent.

Bonnie & Clyde

Starring

Elizabeth and David

David and Elizabeth wanted a unique and one of a kind engagement photos! They decided that they wanted to go back to the 1930’s with a Bonnie and Clyde themed shoot and Jodi Lynn Photography totally made that happen. Talk about fun! From the vintage clothes that Elizabeth wore to the hair and make up by Erica Smith ~ they most definitely looked the part! Jodi will go out of her way to make sure she scouts out the perfect spot depending on what type of theme or feel the client is going for. Jodi found Goldfield Ghost Town including the surrounding areas and when she told David and Elizabeth she found “the perfect spot” she was pleasantly surprised to find out that just happen to be the spot that they got engaged! How coincidentally perfect is that scenario!? Meant to be? We’d say so!

Vintage Finger Waves

This style hair works best with shoulder length hair or shorter.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

When you get out of the shower and your hair is all nice and clean; spray a bit of Garnier Fructis’s heat protection onto your hair and work it through with a comb or brush. Next, I want you to part your hair in a very exaggerated side part. While your hair is wet, apply Redken Hardwear 16 Super Strong Hair Gel to the front left section of your hair. Comb through that section and position it like the first turn of a finger wave. Pin into place with a bobbi pin. Now generously apply Redken’s Aerate 08 Bodifying Hair Cream-Mousse to the rest of your hair. Scrunch your hair to the desired amount of “curl” and spray in place with your favorite hairspray and you are set!

That’s it ladies! You have now created a vintage look all your own!

Marie and Ryan Photography By: Our Labor of Love Photography

From the Bride: We purposefully did not have wedding “colors.” We went with black and cream, and glitter(!), elements to evoke the feel I described above. We thought pop colors would be too focal and take away from the feeling of being at a great party like those in “Bright Young Things” where the focus is on the glitzy people in attendance. In the end, the colors that popped were from the guests’ cocktail attire. Black and cream/white also worked out because we wanted to incorporate our pit bull, Mama, into the wedding, and she is, guess what, black and white. There were a ton of DIY projects involved! Friends made the invitations and my second dress and I made a lot of the paper goods used throughout the wedding. Two days before the wedding my relatives stayed up until 4am assembling the favor boxes, welcome bags, and escort Coca-Cola bottles.

Krist a and Scott Photography By: Sharon Litchfield Photography

The ceremony was held in the Art Gallery of Alberta’s Ledcor Theatre where boxwood hedges, floating candles, gladiolas and dendrobium orchids created a gorgeous backdrop for the vows. After taking photos with their families and wedding party, Krista + Scott joined their guests for dinner and dancing at Matrix Hotel. The entire ballroom was lit in fuchsia and purple, and contemporary furniture created a lounge space near the dance floor. Krista + Scott’s families LOVE candy, so they decided a candy table was a must at their reception. Working with LOVEinc Dessert Styling we designed a fun pink and green sweet spread full of the couple’s favourites. Stationery by Pinkpolka Wedding Design pulled everything together. Princess Bun

You can create this beautiful Princess Bun in multiple ways. Most people use a sock bun and call it a day; however for this sexy look there is an alternate way by just using a comb, one hair tie and bobby pins.

1. 2. 3.

Pull all of your hair back into a high ponytail, making sure everything is smooth and sexy. Part your ponytail into 4 sections and tease the undersides of each section. Making sure the top of each section is smooth roll the hair under creating each side of the bun. The tighter you roll, the smaller the bun will be. Pin each section in place.

4. 5.

Using a hair pin, spread each section out until they connect and create a full bun. Make sure everything is smooth and no pins are showing and then spray into place. That’s it ladies! You have now created a perfect princess bun all your own!

ANTONIO GUAL for

TULLE

A

NEW YORK

ntonio Gual for TULLE NEW YORK, is known for a combination of glamorous styling and exquisite nuances that make the collection so exceptional. Formerly a designer for Melissa Sweet, TULLE silhouettes are body-conscious, feminine, and ethereal while showcasing a contemporary bride with a desire to give and receive affection. It is always such a pleasure for us to sit down with the amazing team and especially Tulle designer Antonio Gual. I had the honor of sitting down with Antonio for bridal fashion week in October to view the new collection and talk about what inspires him as well as what is coming up for TULLE NEW YORK. I had so much fun learning about his new couture collection, but most of all, I loved learning about the designer himself. Check out the interview below to get a glimpse into the life of designer Antonio Gual.

How did you end up in your profession?

Entirely Melissa Sweet, we knew each other from long ago socially. When her company was bought and moved to New York, she contacted me to help on her line. The rest as they say is history.

The brides desire to be beautiful, I find that touching and endearing.

What is your favorite trend, look or dress right now? (Pick one!)

Gowns that are not strapless will be next.

Who, what and where inspires you?

Were there certain things that inspired you when you Inteligent, stylish and witty people envisioned this collection? such as Lauren Santo Domingo. Music I find inspirational. Italy inspires me.

What is the best part of your job?

The idea of creating beauty. Very few jobs require making something beautiful, that is my job.

What do you love about brides?

Butterflies, the flutter, the grace and the ephemeral existence, plus the fragility all made me incorporate much of that into this collection.

What was different about this collection and seasons past?

The emphasisfor this collection

was on movement, many of the gowns have tiered skirts that flutter. This collection is more romantic.

What is your favorite dress trends right now?

My favorite trend would have to be, exposed backs. My Judy, Diane and Alicia share that. I like a more natural elegance, big fan of twinkle, not mad about bling.

What is the one thing every bride needs?

A beautiful lush bouquet

Tell us a style secret that can make weddings look amazing?

I think less is more as far as "styling" a wedding.

Is there a piece of advice you give to brides when looking for a wedding dress?

When shopping for a gown, let go of all preconceived ideas, let go and allow a discovery phase to take place.

In terms of beauty looks, do you have dos and don’ts?

Always be grateful, and acknowledge all around you. Do not wear a lot of make up

What’s next?

We are very excited to announce that TULLE NEW YORK will be launching a second label.

But maybe for this night, you’re looking for something a little more relaxed and cozy than an evening on the town hopping from bar to bar. And why not? A cozy night in with your gal pals is totally doable and super fun. Read on for tips on how to make this night a special one for you and your bridesmaids. First, get your set-up ready. It doesn’t matter if you have an apartment or a home, choose one area where you can all sit around together. Make sure there is ample seating, a TV set in the room and a bathroom nearby. A night in with the girls is not complete without some beautification and pampering, so you’ll want to invest in some spa treatments. Get supplies ready for manicures and pedicures, hair conditioning treatments and definitely facials (try the at-home facial by Lush products–it’s the best on the market). Now that you have everything set up let the girls know the time and what to bring. You’ll be up late so have the party start around 7 or 8 in the evening. Tell the gals to bring comfy PJs, their favorite nail color, a dish to pass (think popcorn, chips, brownie bars and ice cream cookies!) and drinks. Finally, rent the two best wedding movies out there: Bridesmaids and Bride Wars. When your bridesmaids arrive, get comfy around the TV set, chit chat like you’re in high school again, and put on those facials! You’ll be sure to

Finding Colin Firth by Mia March

Rating: 4 of 5 stars Genre: Adult Romance Book Description: From the author of The Meryl Streep Movie Club comes a new novel about three women, connected in secret and surprising ways, who are in for a life-changing summer when rumor has it that actor Colin Firth is coming to their Maine town to film a movie. Journalist Gemma Hendricks is sure that scoring an interview with Colin Firth will save her lagging career and rocky marriage. Yet with her bittersweet secret, a heart-tugging local story about women, family ties, love, and loss, captures her heart—and changes everything. The story concerns Bea Crane, a floundering twenty-two-year old who learns in a deathbed confession letter that she was adopted at birth. Bea is in Boothbay Harbor to surreptitiously observe her biological mother, Veronica Russo—something of a legend in town—who Bea might not be ready to meet, after all. Veronica, a thirty-eight-year-old diner waitress famous for her “healing” pies, has come home to Maine to face her past. But when she’s hired as an Extra on the bustling movie set, she wonders if she hiding from the truth . . . and perhaps the opportunity of a real life Mr. Darcy. These three women will discover more than they ever imagined in this coastal Maine town, buzzing with hopes of Colin Firth. Even the conjecture of his arrival inspires daydreams, amplifies complicated lives, and gives incentive to find their own romantic endings.

Mia March has a way to bring out the charm and quirkness in her characters, and brings joy to the reader’s heart, that is what makes “Finding Colin Firth” a charming read. Mia rises to an even higher level of wirting from earlier novel “The Meryl Streep Movie Club”, to bring Colin Firth and these three women to life on the page. Colin Firth movies and the relationships between the women in this book simulate very well, clearly defining how a simple pie, not a magic one, can also serve as a source of hope, personal connection and bonding between loved ones. The lives of the three leading characters in the book, Gemma, Bea and Veronica are not only intertwined by Colin Firth, but also in more other ways than the reader will initially not understand. The transition between their stories is seamless. The running theme all through the book is the common struggles of the three women as they go through the complexities of life, family and parenting. The

loss of a parent and the realization of adoption are just some of the few elements that come out in Finding Colin Firth. As they go about sorting out their personal life struggles in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, their paths will cross over, even though none of them knew that Colin Firth would make them cross their paths. Bea is tracing her roots, Veronica ends up getting an opportunity to work on the Colin Firth movie being shot in the town, even though she had initially set out to search the daughter she left to be adopted by foster parents after getting pregnant with a school just at the tender age of 16 and Gemma is out to revamp her journalism career after getting sacked. The reader will absolutely love the book and its references, but obviously not all the characters are as appealing to the degree which the reader would have loved them to be. Let the title not confuse you; while

Colin Firth will eventually be sighted, you will discover that he is not the theme in the story, but rather the bait that joins the different paths in pursuit. Inside the book you find moving family stories of love and regrets. I am sure many of you will identify with these struggles of life in Mia March’s book. Even if you have not had a chance to read the other Mia March’s books set in Boothbay Harbor, you will still have it easy reading Finding Colin Firth, even though some of the characters in this book appeared in her previous book. This is a must read for the entire author’s fans or Colin Firth, the character himself. Given the fun in this book, you will definitely find yourself visiting Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Hope you enjoy it, Amanda

{Get bare down there} Not only is shaving irritating, it is a chore to maintain your silky smooth legs and bikini line every day. Surprise your hubby to be by coming home smooth as a baby’s bottom... down there. Take a little off, or take it all off in a Brazilian style wax and feel sexy, smooth, and confident. Lengthen Your Locks The Natural Way

You’ve found the gown and it’s the perfect neckline, and of course you’ve decided you want your hair down in lush waves. Time to grow out your long locks for the big day. Start with a sound diet (extra protein) and a follicle booster (try Nioxin Diamax).

Bridal Boot Camp Time If your goal is to lose the extra pounds, or define your arms for that strapless gown (or both), you will want to figure out a well-rounded fitness plan. Make a routine, a mix of strength training, cardio, and stretching. Yes - stretching. It boosts your balance and flexibility, and creates leaner muscles. Contact a trainer and sign up for a gym membership or work your fitness plan at home!

begin a regimen now. To improve your complexion, consider monthly facials and treatments like fruit-acid peels, which refresh skin’s outer layer. Microdermabrasion, a form of exfoliation that uses tiny crystals, is better for sensitive skin. Prices for both range from $100 to $200 per session.

Say Cheese Consult with a cosmetic dentist with as much lead time as possible if you have any chips or crooked teeth you want fixed. Straighter teeth can be achieved several ways, the time frame ranging from two weeks up to two years. A bride’s treatment plan depends on a variety of factorshow straight the teeth currently are, if there are any spaces, etc. So the minute that rock lands on your finger, your dentist should be the first call you make (well, after you tell your parents and friends, of course).

Purge and Splurge!

Top it off

Start experimenting with your hair after you select your gown and a good three months before the event. When doing a consultation with a stylist (if you’re having your hair done at a salon), take any hair accessories you may consider wearing on the day of, your veil if you’re wearing one, and always, always bring pictures that will inspire the look you want to achieve. You don’t want something that is not you. You want something that will make you feel like yourself and will look great in pictures.

Bring on the sweat! Pilates and yoga are great for spot toning, but make extra sure to hit the running track or elliptical too to burn extra calories and get rid of the muffin top. Do intervals, speed up and slow down, run and walk.

Note: Keep your hair in perfect shape by moisturizing your lovely locks. For extra care, try a deep moisture treatment, like Total Keratin Obsession Deep Conditioning Treatment (andreawalkerhair.com)

(you wouldn’t want a droopy eyelid in your wedding pics). And remember it doesn’t work overnight. It takes between three days and up to two weeks for it to kick in. If you do bruise easily, allow at least six weeks to make sure everything has settled down and your muscles have had time to respond to the treatment. prevent damage. Note: If you don’t want a little 1st anniversary surprise, now is the time to visit your OBGYN to get on a good birth control pill or find a good preventative alternative for you!

Note: Stay stress-free by planning a date with your hubby-to-be. No doubt at this point he’s ready to ditch the wedding and elope! He just wants you to remember that out of all the women in the world he chose you! Plan some romantic time with your lover- no wedding talk.

2

Note: Amp up your grin! Chances are you’ll want a brighter smile on your big day (hello, cameras!). You can go for an in-office treatment or choose an over-the-counter at home treatment.

1

MONTH Trim it!

Less than an inch won’t kill that perfect down-do! Part company with those fried, split ends and we promise you’ll feel better. Your hair will look fresh and healthy as you walk down the aisle.

Go for a glow You will most likely want a beautiful glow on your wedding day and for your honeymoon. If you want to start building a base tan at home with sunless tanners, now is the time to start. If you choose to go with an airbrush tan you’ll want to go for a trial run to assure you aren’t looking like a worker from Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory! Skip the airbrush tanning machines that cause streaks and invest in an airbrush tanning professional (averaging $30-$65)

WEEKS

Flawless Bride

Don’t panic right before the wedding and decide to get an overly aggressive cosmetic procedure! Your skin could have a reaction to any new treatments (think red, blotchy, broken out- not pretty). Do any treatments at least two weeks beforehand, though you can do a basic at-home facial mask one week before. Get an extra exfoliating treatment a month to two weeks before the big day to make skin really glow. And if the worst should happen and you wake up with a gigantic zit a day or two before your big day, swing by your dermatologist’s office for a cortisone injection to deflate it in a hurry.

Mani Time Show your hands some love! Time to pay attention to those fingers that carry a special stone on them. Everyone will want to see that sparkle on the wedding day! Supplement your usual mani/pedi by hosting a girls’ spa night with an in-home scrub, soak, and of course, Cosmos!

SLEEP! There is no other treatment like it in the world! Sleep is your BEST beauty booster!

1

WEEK

Shape it, Arch It

Brows have more longevity than you think (a perfect shape will typically last for a week), so you don’t need to have them done right before your big day. Go to a salon or spa you trust (or comes highly recommended from someone whose brows you like) to have your brows groomed five to seven days before the wedding so you won’t have any residual redness or irritation.

Get Rid of the bush! Most prefer laser hair removal and you can start that six months before the big day and do it monthly. This way, by your wedding day you’ll no longer have to shave, which will definitely come in handy on the honeymoon. If laser isn’t in your budget or if you prefer waxing, you can wax up until a week before, though this depends on how fast your hair grows and how thick it is. Don’t get a wax right before or it will be red and irritated. That wouldn’t make for a very fun wedding night.

Fake A Glow We love spray tans! They’re great at giving a beautiful glow and an even tone, minus the sun damage. If this is the bride’s first time, you definitely want to go at least two times prior to the wedding to test it out. You want to make sure it doesn’t turn out orange or streaky, and see how the color develops and fades. Then, if you’re satisfied with the results, you definitely want to get a spray tan at least three days before the wedding so you ensure the coloring doesn’t come off on clothes, towels, sheets, etc. For the face, test an at-home face selftanner (skip the spray, which may come out too dark) a month before the wedding, and if it works then reapply the day before. Try Lancome Flash Bronzer Oil-Free Tinted SelfTanning Face Lotion, $30.

Note: Run a bath filled to the brim with

Pamper Your Hair Get a straightening or relaxing treatment. Straightening treatments/relaxer should be done a week or two before the wedding. That way the treatment can settle into your hair and appear more natural. If you also need to have color done, have your hair straightened/relaxed first, wait a couple of weeks and then do color, in order to

over color, a week before is plenty of time. You want your hair to be freshly colored, yet leave enough time to fix any mistakes.

Note: When it comes to hair color, if you’re getting highlights, I would recommend getting them a week and a half before your big day. They tend to be a bit more difficult to get perfect. But, if it’s all-

hot water and pour in your favorite bath oil with lavender. Soak and bask in the amazing feeling that soon you will be a Mrs., and close your eyes and picture walking down the aisle and how beautiful you will look on your big day! Picture the look on your groom as he sees the most beautiful woman, his woman, saying “I do”.
