Springtime

SWEETHEARTS

Ainsley & Eric’s love story became forever in March, one for the books!

photos by Meridian Images

BILLBOARD BRIDE

It was a warm, late summer day in September when Ainsley and Eric made the trip to Oxford, Mississippi to watch a college football game at Ole Miss, where they met. They were strolling through the sprawling mall of the main campus, looking for their alumni bricks. While Ainsley strolled, she turned around to Eric stepping down on one knee!

His sister was near, taking photos as Ainsley gave Eric her forever yes. Afterwards, they went back to the Airbnb in Oxford where Eric’s parents were waiting, Eric surprised Ainsley with her parents waiting in town as well!

“He knew that I had wanted our families there for such a special moment and I had no idea my parents would be in town. It was such a special weekend celebrating in a place that we both love and where we first met!”

From that special moment onward, Ainsley began planning for her March 2025 ceremony. She joined

us at Bridal Extravaganza in January 2024, where she heard about an opportunity to become the Billboard Bride.

Hundreds of girls signed up for the opportunity, and after an extensive process including an interview, Ainsley became the new July Billboard Bride.

Ainsley met us at Heaven on Earth Oaks, a former Victorian mansion turned into an elite event space in Missouri City, Texas.

With large bay windows that allow glimpses of golden sunlight to fall on our bride; this venue was an ethereal setting that pulled the entire wedding look together.

One of the most exciting parts of the process for the Billboard Brides is trying on the different wedding gowns for the photoshoot.

For Ainsley’s look, Ventura’s Bridal Fashions selected two dresses from the Allure Bridal Disney Fairytale

Weddings collection. The first, Platinum Aurora, is a flattering fitted dress, complete with floral details across the gown, a cape that glamorizes the look, and matches the gown with its applique. The second dress, Cinderella, is an A-line ballgown that dazzles with encrusted sparkles and matching veil.

For Veronica of Ventura’s Bridal Fashions, selecting the gowns allows for a flood of stylist creativity.

“The fun thing about Billboard Bride is the general whimsical, romantic, fun thing. You get to do dresses that are a little more over the top, while still being an actual couture gown at a reasonable price point,” Veronica says.

The delicate, feminine effect of the gowns was furthered by the Kim Events bouquet of various pale pink flowers with accents of greenery.

“For the billboard bouquet, we went with a trendy whimsical pastel color palette that matches the summer

atmosphere, popular choices include all the special flowers like peony, ranunculus, sweet peas, tulips,” Kim Huynh of Kim Events said. “We absolutely love creating beautiful bouquet(s) for our brides.”

Hues by Heather created a fresh makeup look for Ainsley that highlighted her natural features by using a simple swipe of gloss on her lips, a pop of eyeshadow that complemented her eyes, and shimmering blush. For Heather, the makeup goal is “…to enhance, but not to overpower her beauty.”

In addition to makeup, Heather styled her lightly curled natural hair for the photoshoot. As a native Texan herself, Heather knows that the preservation

of a beautiful hairstyle in the humidity is threatened by constant frizz.

The first step to success? Finding a texture powder or a texture spray that works for you. A good base like this will give your hair a dry finish, and a lot of texture to work with to maintain a look that will last all day. For Heather, the ideal product is Big Sexy Hair Powder Play.

Overall, as a makeup and hair stylist with twenty years of experience, Heather knows that the key ingredient is feeling like yourself on your wedding day. When you’re finding someone to do makeup, Heather says “Look for someone who will listen, there’s a lot of discussion to do before.”

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

&ROMY LAUREN MITCHELL JASON FRANCIS DELL’ARIO

November 11, 2023 by Miya Shay

They say good things come to those who wait, though neither Jason Francis Dell’Ario nor Romy Lauren Mitchell realized they would have to wait 20 years to find each other at the right moment for their love to blossom.

So, when Dell’Ario looked into the eyes of Dr. Mitchell during an unusually chilly afternoon on November 11, 2023 to say “I Do,” both had to marvel at how the passage of time, made it all happen.

Back in 2003, when Dell’Ario was still a Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy, he was set up on a blind date with then medical student Mitchell. There was mutual attraction, but youth and other circumstances meant it was just one moment in their fast-moving lives.

Over the next two decades, both had marriages, and Dell’Ario had two beautiful daughters. Then, in the Spring of 2021, Mitchell, now a board-certified anesthesiologist, and Dell’Ario, who had retired from law enforcement and now manages a parking/ transportation company, ran into each other at a bar.

Both wiser and more outspoken, sparks flew again. This time, neither was going to let the other get away.

Not too long after their romance rekindled, the couple was having dinner at Mastro’s Steakhouse with Dell’Ario’s daughters when the groom had the proposal written on a plate, then dropped to one knee. He presented Mitchell with a stunning ring from Shaftel Diamonds, and the entire restaurant burst into applause.

With rugged good looks like he walked off the set of an old John Wayne movie, Dell’Ario certainly fit into the aesthetics of West Texas before he ever considered getting married there. Along with Mitchell, who could easily trade her operating room for a runway in Milan, the couple settled on the Gage Hotel in Marathon as the perfect venue to celebrate their love.

On Nov. 10, 2023, the couple’s closest friends made it from near, but mostly far, to the hotel’s gorgeous Dance Court for a Mexican-themed welcome reception. A lovely buffet along with a full mariachi band kept guests fed & entertained. The couple relied on free-flowing Casamigos margaritas and an adorable tequila donkey to ward off the nighttime chill. Mitchell dazzled in a weather-defying mini dress by Jonathan Simkhai while the groom kept it simple with classic western wear.

Any hope that the cold snap would ease up on their wedding day was dashed when the sun peaked over the blustery desert landscape of West Texas on Nov. 11, 2023. While some guests drove into town looking for last minute winter gear, the bride was unphased. Sitting with her close friends and a bottle of bubbly inside the historic Captain Shepard House, Dr. Romy Mitchell glowed as she got ready for her wedding day.

By early afternoon, with temperatures barely above freezing, Mitchell slipped into her floor length custom gown by Winnie Couture, and posed for

photos with her groom, his daughters, family, and their rescue dogs Maximus and Duke. Gliding through the barren West Texas landscape, Mitchell alternated between a cathedral length veil and a snow-white cowboy hat emblazoned with their wedding date for the perfect snap.

Although Mitchell’s key wedding advice is to plan ahead, she also had to be ready to pivot at the last minute. The wedding vows proceeded outdoors at the tranquil Gage Gardens, where the leaves and fauna remained vibrant despite the wintry weather. Once the sun dipped below the horizon, plans of an outdoor reception had to be changed. The nearby Ritchey Building provided the ideal, heated indoor space to celebrate and dance the night away.

A chocolate & vanilla cake with classic buttercream frosting, prepared by the Gage Hotel catering staff, ended the wedding dinner on the sweetest of notes. The guests, though, did not traverse all the way to West Texas for the night to end early. Dancing, laughter, and champagne flowed for hours. The rollicking good time filled the brisk Marathon air with joy that eventually, as all special occasions do in these parts, spilled into the bar at the hotel’s main building.

The exact moment when the exhilarating wedding ended may still be fuzzy for some guests, and Sunday morning certainly came too soon for most. As the newlyweds looked forward to a honeymoon in the warmer environments of Cabo San Lucas, their friends ended a whirlwind weekend with a quick stop at the hotel coffee shop, before trying their best to make that Sunday afternoon flight.

Having experienced many of life’s ups and downs apart before finding each other again, the wedding of Dell’Ario and Mitchell was all about celebrating what’s most important to them: parents, kids, friends, both human and the furry kind. Love, as the saying goes, is worth the wait.

Mates:

A love story that began with a song

by

Photography
Kayla Darensbourg

Students at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Alex and Maria met at their local Guitar Center.

While Maria perused the sheet music, she heard the beautiful sounds of someone strumming their guitar. She followed the sounds of the music and met Alex testing out a new set of strings. The connection was immediate, and after phone numbers were exchanged, the couple’s story began.

When the time came, Alex planned the proposal while on family vacation in Cozumel, Mexico. During the professional family photoshoot against the backdrop of a fantastic sunset, Maria turned away to the ocean, and looked back to see Alex dropping on one knee.

“Visitors of the resort watched on, clapping and cheering. The colors of the night sky were amazing. A very romantic setting!” Maria says.

“The next day Hurricane Grace crossed directly over us, “Maria adds, “But even that couldn’t dampen the joy of the proposal.”

For their January wedding, Maria and Alex chose Christ the Redeemer

Catholic Church and Bridal Oaks in Cypress as their wedding venues. Their decision to choose a venue close to the ceremony was important to them, as was being married in their parish church.

In order to pull together the entire event, Maria used Bridal Extravaganza to consider all the details and planning.

“The Bridal Extravaganza gave us lots of ideas of what we did and did not want. It was here we first met our caterer, 2 Guys 1 Pitt…the best BBQ in Houston!” Maria says.

At the time of the wedding, Maria and Alex leaned into their friends and family to help them make the occasion unique.

The rehearsal dinner was hosted by Alex’s family friends, and the Italian food was complete with appetizers, desserts and wine. With the navyblue linens and the gold décor, it was a comforting and beautiful event that prepared the entire party for the upcoming wedding day.

“It was a perfect setting for an intimate dinner with toasts and laughter all around,” Maria says.

To further the special details of their wedding that included all their loved ones, the couple flew in their family friend and retired pastor Fr. Frank Wittouck from Wisconsin to officiate the wedding.

Finally, as Alex slid the wedding ring over his new wife’s finger, the diamond was a family heirloom, a precious stone that his granny wore.

As the celebration came to an end, Maria and Alex danced the night away with their friends and family and enjoyed the beautiful cake made by their friend, Esther Beltran. The three-tiered white cake with buttercream frosting was decorated with the bridal flowers and gold embellishments, and the groom’s cake was a nod to Alex’s “baby,” his red corvette.

Bride’s Advice: Use a wedding planner! The lack of stress is so worth it! We could not have had such a beautiful wedding without the help of Jessica Young at JYoung Events and her staff!

&ANNALISA HOPE CHEEK CLAYTON NELSON PETTY

November 11, 2023

Sweet, Surprising Details

Annalisa and Clayton met at Texas A&M through a student ministry, and after months of being “just friends,” with their own secret crushes, Clayton surprised Annalisa at her door and asked her on their first date. The rest, as they say, is history.

From there, he planned the proposal at one of their favorite places in Fort Worth. “One day he picked me up for a fancy date and he drove me to the Amon Carter where he had a picnic set up with roses, custom boots from Miron Crosby and a Bible each with my new married initials and a photographer! He got down on one knee and tears were shed and I said yes!” Annalisa said.

Annalisa and Clayton were married at the home of a friend in Highland Park Dallas, directly on Turtle Creek. The lush greenery and still, clear water was a beautiful scene for the wedding. In addition to the ceremony, the couple had a cigar bar, a custom cocktail named after their dog (The June- a spicy margarita), a live band, a late night snack (mini fried chicken biscuit sandwiches), a full charcuterie board, and a photo booth.

Bride’s Advice: “Focus on your marriage more than the wedding day and you will find that the day is so much more fun and joyful because you have so much more to look forward to! Spend time with your friends and saying hi to everyone but also prioritize the small moments with your husband. Make a mini vlog with your husband at the end of the night talking about the day and remembering the details. Also don’t do a first look! Nothing beats seeing your husband for the first time walking down the aisle.”

Elevated and Elegant:

One bride’s journey to avoiding peer pressure to keep the ceremony special

From the moment of the rose petals that the wedding party threw at the exiting couple, to the backdrop of the blue stained glass in St. Michael’s Catholic Church; Marissa and Kevin honed in on all of the details for their special day. Captured by Marco Wang, the photographed result of the special day was outstanding.

“It was important to us that we were married in the church, and St. Michael is Marissa’s family’s parish. Lakeside is a stunning venue, overlooking a golf course, and has a wonderful chef we were excited to build a menu with!” Marissa says.

After meeting in college right before their 2016 graduation, Marissa and Kevin were engaged in 2021. It was the weekend of an alma mater football game, and Kevin took his opportunity while the couple were walking campus.

“A couple of my best friends were hiding watching and ran out to celebrate with us. We then walked to the restaurant where we had our first date, and there was a huge party with everyone waiting! The party continued into Saturday, with a massive tailgate with everyone, followed by the game. It was the best weekend ever!” Marissa says.

From there, Marissa planned a beautiful, wedding with lots of unique choices and details that elevated the elegance and intimacy of their ceremony.

Dressed in Allison Webb’s Kendall gown, Marissa found her fitted dress with floral overlay at Wedding Atelier in New York City. Paired with her pearl drop earrings and her full-length veil- the look was elevated and chic.

After the ceremony, the reception was held at the country club, where the couple privately cut a simple, small, 6-inch cake. For the guests, there was a variety of small desserts in lieu of a cake, including tiramisu, petit fours, fruit tarts, and ice cream.

Finally, after a night of celebrating with friends and family, the couple embarked on a week-long honeymoon in Riviera Maya.

“We achieved the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure. We spent most mornings by the pool, but made a point to carve out time to play a round of golf, visit the Mayan ruins in Tulum, snorkel and swim with dolphins! It could not have been more perfect. The food at the resort was top notch too,” Marissa says.

Brides Advice: “Make decisions based on what YOU want! It can be hard not to people please your way through wedding planning, but your day should be a reflection of you and your partner. That’s what makes it special!”

Married in the Military: The special story of this Mr. and Mrs.

The day that Kaili and Payton became engaged, Payton drove Kaili to Laguna Madre on the Corpus Christi Bay. There, he led her to the top of a sand dune at sunset and fell on one knee.

With the clear blue water, and the setting sun, Kaili gave her word of yes, and the beautiful moment surrounded by the breathtaking ocean was captured by a flying drone.

Both members of the military, Kaili in the USCG Reserves, and Payton a Lieutenant, met through mutual friends and dated long distance while Kaili was active in the Coast Guard.

Knowing that their ceremony should be a special occasion for both of them, Kaili set to work to find a venue that would fit the style of their wedding and feel comfortable and accommodating for their families.

Their final choice: The Grand Hall in Montgomery Texas.

“We toured many locations, but The Grand Hall was a beautiful venue and we fell in love instantly, we knew this venue was where we would get married as soon as we arrived,” Kaili says.

From there, all the details fell into place.

Kaili wore Harmony by Newhite, a dress with clean white lines, and heightened by the long pearl veil she

accessorized with. This photoshoot captured her classic look well, showing her dress against the background of the accents of pale pink roses and dark, emerald greenery.

To lighten the mood and ease nerves, Kaili even planned a fake “first look” for Payton.

“We had a groomsmen dress up as a bride and do a first surprised look with my groom. It was hilarious and got rid of all the nervous jitters and gave everyone a big laugh before the ceremony,” Kaili says.

Afterwards, the bride served cake from the Bavarian Cakery in Houston, before embarking on their honeymoon at St. Lucia, a Caribbean island.

Surrounded by the peace and romance of their tropical island vacation, it provided the perfect trip before the couple stepped back into their service.

Brides Advice: “For myself, being in the military and my family members also being in the military, we are all spread out over the US. Having them all in one place all together, made my heart explode! I was surrounded by all the people I love and cherish and so my advice would be to take in all your guests and all the memories you will share on your special day. You never know when the last time you will be able to see and hold the loved ones around you.”

Family Affair

Their love story began junior year of high school when Madison and Jake met on Homecoming night. Each with different dates, they caught each other’s eyes during dinner. Then Jake approached Madison and her boyfriend at the time to introduce himself and told Madison how beautiful she is. Many years and two children later, the rest is history.

Proposal story

Jake proposed soon after graduating from the University of Mississippi and moving back home. They have been together since 2014, persevering through four and a half years of a longdistance relationship.

Wedding Location

The couple choose Waters Edge to have their wedding. It was always in their mind because of the beautiful view of the water, and they grew up near this venue.

Fun Fact

Madison and her mother planned the wedding in just two weeks! To make the dream wedding in such a short amount of time is quite the accomplishment.

Bride’s Advice: “When it comes to planning, stay authentic to yourself and your family. Take care and be nice to your vendors because they work so hard to make your day special. Take moments on your wedding day to just look and see everything that you and the vendors worked so hard to plan. Really try to be in the moment and cherish your special day, it goes by so fast!”

&CATHERINE CARL WILLIAM CAGNINA

Glowing in Galveston: How this bride used the beach for glamor

This beautiful love story begins in an unexpected place, the ticket counter at Texas A&M’s Kyle Field.

Catherine offered William her extra ticket, and he recognized her Colorado hat. In a moment they connected over their grandparents being neighbors, and from then on, their new chapter began.

Later, William proposed in that exact sentimental spot, Kissing Camels, where their grandparents live.

Captured on camera, the proposal was a joyful, romantic moment. Catherine, with a big smile, is hand-in-hand with William against the backdrop of a mountain landscape.

With family ties as a core pillar in their relationship, Catherine and William chose Galveston for their ceremony due to the memories, the familial ties, and the joy of island time.

Decadent with strands of pearls, seashells, and tropical flowers, Catherine and William leaned into their trendy photoshoot that captured the island.

Furthering the theme, Catherine’s gown by Lazaro was a fitted ballgown with a long train and a removeable shoulder shawl adding a romantic edge to her look allowing the dress to switch effortlessly from the ceremony to the reception.

By way of dessert, Catherine and William ended their celebration with a red velvet wedding cake with alternating layers. Provided by Cakes by Gina, this was a delicious addition.

To end the beautiful night, guests sent off the bride and groom with bubbles to finish their wedding with a full-on dance party.

Bride’s Advice: “I advise future brides to lean into God’s word with the same intensity that you put into planning your wedding. As wedding planning increasingly fills your mind and time, commit equal dedication to personal time with the Lord. He will prepare you to be an amazing partner, teach you sacrificial love, and ease your concerns about the wedding plans.

“Selecting the venue, flowers, linens, etc. can be overwhelming. With a competitive and frivolous wedding industry, it is only natural to become frazzled. The Lord knows what you are dealing with and He will give you divine comfort! When we were planning our wedding, I began the process with an open mind, and I was overwhelmed when vendors expected specifics. I turned to prayer, and He showed up in miraculous ways! Our wedding was beautiful, and I am so thankful to the Lord and my dedicated mother for making it perfect.”

&ELISE BANKS ANDREW LOVELY

November 10, 2023

Born an Ocean Apart,

Forming an Ocean of Love

This couple met in the strenuous, slow paced year 2020, when, as put simply by Elise “no one was going anywhere.”

However, for Elise, an American clinical psychotherapist, and Andrew, an English engineer, meeting one another was able to take place from the safety of their homes.

The couple met on a dating app, and from there they spent the first few months talking on the phone and Facetiming regularly.

“When we finally met in person our first date was four hours long! The best thing about the pandemic was that I actually met my husband,” Elise says.

When it came time for Andrew to propose, Elise had shared the details of her dream proposal.

“When we were dating Andrew asked what my dream proposal would be, and I said it would be so cool to be proposed to or engaged in Paris,” she says.

This vision, while wildly romantic, was difficult for Andrew to keep a surprise when it came time to propose to his future wife.

In a stroke of genius he threw Elise a Paris-themed surprise party, complete with a staged Eiffel Tower setup and their friends and family.

Then, with their loved ones present, he popped the question and asked her to go to Paris with him.

From then on, Elise, and her wedding planner Alyssa Meeks, ironed out all the details of the wedding.

With her experience as a model for Bridal Extravaganza, Elise knew what she would be needing to plan a special day of celebration.

“I think for a bride it is a wonderful one stop shop to plan your wedding essentially, a lot of the vendors I worked with already knew me, but a lot of brides don’t know where to start and it can be overwhelming from that perspective,” she says.

The venue selected was the Four Seasons in Houston, the perfect remodeled venue with many allinclusive perks and a supportive team on the day of the ceremony.

One of the specific benefits of choosing The Four Seasons for their ceremony was the cake from Suzy’s Bakery in Houston.

“It was cool because it was just a part of our contract, but when it was time to go select the flavors and everything we went to her bakery,” she says.

In addition to the ideal venue and the dessert, the entire event was complete with Elise’s custom dress by Ese Azenabor.

As she walked down the aisle, she wore a beautiful gown that could be effortlessly transitioned into a unique look for her reception.

During the ceremony, Elise also shares a special part of the day that she holds close.

“I now have two bonus sons,” she shares. “My husband has two sons from his first marriage. It’s really cool that they got to be part of his ceremony, first as the groomsmen, and they came up for the pastor to give them both a blessing.”

With all of the special moments of the day, Elise still treasures the peonies from La Vie en Rose, a florist in Houston. Her favorite flowers, these were chosen specifically for their light pink, almost white shine.

“I had researched before the wedding how to get my bouquet preserved so I would have my flowers preserved. They made my bouquet into a tray that I now have on my coffee tables,” Elise shared.

Bride’s Advice: “The wedding is important, but the marriage is more important. As much as you work out all the details of the gown and the cake and the flowers, remember that building the tools towards a strong marriage is most important.”

Perched atop a mesa in Colorado Springs, the newly renovated Garden of the Gods Resort and Club is a premier retreat offering a world-class resort and wellness experience with an array of amenities including: championship golf and tennis, pickleball courts, an award-winning med spa, three outdoor swimming pools, two hot tubs, and impeccable dining.

It’s all about the view at this resort and the Mountain front guest rooms and suites in the resort lodge offer breathtaking views of the Garden of the Gods national landmark. Garden of the Gods Resort and Club is a timeless mid-20th century legacy, blending generational traditions with bespoke culture, that celebrates life well-lived. The red rock sandstone formations set against Pikes Peak, have long been

revered for their natural beauty. Upon my arrival, the spectacular red rock formations kept changing shades of red, orange, and yellow. I woke to a light snow flurry and the red rocks were lightly dusted in mystical, magical white.

Speaking of a spectacular view, the Grand View Restaurant serves globally inspired food with a locally sourced menu. Grand View’s namesake stunning views of Garden of the Gods can be admired through floor-to-ceiling windows offering a dining experience enriched and enveloped by nature. Weekend brunch is a treat.

New ownership has led to a reimagined view of wellness. With this new outlook, Strata Med at Garden of the Gods Resort and Club is comprised of a 10,000 square foot medical center, 10,000 square foot spa and 11,000 square foot event center for fitness and cooking demonstrations, educational lectures, and more. According to Tania McCorkle, director of wellness, the focus here is to find a healthy path to wellness. Like the layers of a rock formation, the staff here

helps you look for the root cause of your problems. Strata redefines patient care by integrating the personalized focus of concierge medicine with the holistic approach of integrative and functional medicine. Strata Med offers memberships tailored for those seeking an integrated and holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Concierge Medicine Memberships represent a new era of personalized healthcare and unparalleled access to a comprehensive range of health services, both in-person and virtually. There are four available memberships: Women’s Lifestyle, Cariology, Men’s Lifestyle, and Premium VIP.

Before your wedding day, McCorkle recommends yoga, IVs, and mediative sessions. If you select the resort as your wedding destination, there are several locations to choose from, each as beautiful as the next. Consider a sunrise wedding at Garden of the Gods Park, or an intimate ceremony at the reflection pool and lawn.

Adventure Honeymoon:

The Ozarks

For the couple who wants to celebrate their new life together with an adventure, the Ozarks is the perfect destination.

No matter the season you choose, the Ozarks’ adventurous spirit entertains you. All outdoor sports are available here: kayaking, hunting, waterskiing, and golfing. Take advantage of the beaches and fishing at Table Rock Lake. Live music for all ages is available in Branson where you never know which musical legend will perform. The main drag has it all from several mini golf and adventure game destinations, wax museum, Titanic exhibit and more. Theaters line the road, one after another with such acts as Dolly Parton’s famous Stampede where your four-course meal includes biscuits, rotisserie chicken, pork, corn, potatoes, and dessert. Dinner is served without silverware and the crowd enjoys horse shows, acrobatics, illusions, and comedy.

Silver Dollar City is an internationally awarded 1880s-style amusement park featuring over 40 thrilling rides, live shows, and 100 resident craftsmen demonstrating America’s heritage crafts. During the Christmas holiday, the park illuminates with 6.5 million lights and Santa in the light parade.

Bass Pro Shops’ signature location here is home to Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium. Spanning 350,000 square feet with over 1.5 miles of trails, explore immersive habitats, learn

about America's most significant conservationists and celebrate those who hunt, fish and act as stewards of the land and water.

On your adventure, lay your head at the first true boutique hotel in Branson, Missouri, The Ozarker Lodge. This newly renovated inn has hometown hospitality dialed in. If you are looking for a community as you travel, you will find one here. Everything happens in the bustling lobby; check in, coffee service, a nightcap. After a day of adventure, you’ll find families and couples enjoying board games, making smores outside, or simply enjoying the fireplace.

The lodge works with local artisans and craftsmen to provide guests with one-of-a-kind experiences only found in the Ozarks. Be sure to join the conversation by pinning your hometown on the United States map in the walkway. Every day from four to six, celebrate “the golden hour” with half price wine and beer. Look for live music on Wednesday, daily yoga, and wine and cheese tastings. Take in the region’s natural beauty from the large outdoor pool or cedar soaking tub. Check the schedule for movie night, or just sit back and star gaze.

The guest room design is energizing, encouraging guests to go out, explore, and connect with nature and each other. There are bunk rooms and suites. For honeymooners, the Ozarker Master Suite is 483 square feet and is designed for celebratory trips or romantic occasions and offers a full kitchen.

Nestled in a valley, surrounded by the idyllic landscape of the Ozark Mountains, The Ozarker Lodge brings back the nostalgia of family road trips, the thrill of outdoor adventures and the simple charm of an evening by the creek.

As a travel writer, I rarely return to the same location. There are just too many places to visit and oh so little time. However, when the opportunity arose to return to Vista Verde Ranch in Steamboat Springs, Colorado; I jumped at the chance. With the pandemic in our rear-view mirror, the simplicity and escape provided by this dreamy location is appreciated now more than ever. I highly recommend this property as the perfect mountain-based honeymoon.

This family-owned ranch sits on 540 acres of pristine Colorado heaven and is surrounded by the 1.1 millionacre Routt National Forest. The view of the mountains as you drive from the airport will immediately reduce your post-nuptial stress. Since the founding in the 1900s, each owner has expanded and upgraded the offerings. Today, this luxury guest lodge is one of the country’s best dude ranches as evidenced by these awards: Triple A Four Diamond Award, Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, and Wine Spectator Certificate of Excellence.

Horses make their way from the barn to the pasture at 3:30 daily. From the main lodge, you can watch as these beautiful black, white, and brown creatures meander their way to hay and sweet alfalfa; a scene that never gets old. Soon after, you’ll see a trailer load of “volunteers” who push the hay off the trailer and into the pasture. Take time to sit by the fire, make a smore, enjoy happy hour and mix and mingle with the staff and other guests. Regale your stories from the day as you look to tomorrow.

While you are relaxing, it’s time to plan the next day. Every day is an adventure, and each guest has the choice of two activities per day. Here are some of the standouts:

ICE FISHING. Like a scene from the movie Grumpy Old Men, you too can ice fish on Steamboat Lake. Join a skilled guide on an adventure at Steamboat Lake State Park. Find the perfect location, pop a tent if the weather demands it, drill a hole, and start to

fish. All fishermen know patience is a virtue and you just might be lucky enough to spot a bald eagle and catch some trout.

TRAIL RIDE. Horses are the stars here and each day, you can join a group as you tour the property and enjoy the scenic mountain views.

HORSEMANSHIP. Those who want to learn more about horses or take their skills to the next level will enjoy the classes here. Many guests return year after year and become quite skilled.

TUBING. Yes, the ranch has its own tubing hill and you and your fiancé can take as many runs as you wish.

FEED SLEIGH. Jump on a trailer full of hay and head over to the pasture where the horses are waiting to be fed. You are in the middle of all the action as you toss a dinner of hay and alfalfa to the heard.

In the summer, the activities change to warm weather fun, and all are weather dependent and change due to varying conditions. You can also enjoy beer tastings, cooking classes, a photography workshop, and leatherworking.

Vista Verde is a culinary destination, and the intimate dining room is where the magic happens. Breakfast is a sit-down feast overflowing with omelets, pancakes, avocado toast, waffles, and an oh-so-wonderful sticky bun cinnamon roll. Lunch is a buffet: bar-bque, upscale sandwiches, and pastas are typically on the lunch menu. Speaking of sandwiches, how does a croque madame (ham and cheese) topped with a fried egg sound? Or perhaps you’ll enjoy our Saturday lunch: shepherd’s pie, chicken pot pie, or New England lobster roll. After a long day on the ranch, dinner is a highlight. “Formal night,” is code for three course meal. Iberico bacon was a treat to see on the menu. The night we dined, it was part of the truffle, scallop appetizer. Entrees such as rack of lamb, red fish and

airline chicken are all offered with an expert wine pairing. The finest ingredients are served here and you’re likely to find items like organic vegetables, hormone and antibiotic-free beef, pork, chicken and fish from both coasts.

There are various accommodations to fit most groups, individuals, families, and honeymooners! Choose from 12 private cabins or three lodge rooms. The rooms are stylishly ranch-chic and designed with luxury in mind. We were lucky enough to stay in the Lost Ranger, an actual house with full kitchen, stocked refrigerator, and washer and dryer. The best part of our house was the view of the pasture. Watching the horses come in, eat and sleep just offers the perfect sense of place.

We highly recommend Vista Verde for your honeymoon retreat. You’ll feel right at home here with the friendly staff who treat you like family. Whether you are a horse-person or first time rider, this ranch is the perfect place to hone your skills. And feel free to spend a little too much time on your balcony in the jacuzzi. You deserve it!

San Miguel de Allende

Wedding dreams do come true in captivating San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where the city’s rich heritage shines through in a perfect mix of Spanish baroque architecture and classic Mexican warmth. With an historic art and culture scene, as well as charming pastel casitas, boutique wineries, and ideal year-round weather, San Miguel has long drawn starryeyed romantics to its cobblestone streets. And, with nonstop flights operating from Houston to nearby Santiago de Querétaro, it has never been easier to escape to paradise.

At the heart of Mexico’s art haven lies Casa de Sierra Nevada, A Belmond Hotel, San Miguel de Allende, our 37-room heritage hotel. Comprised of six Spanish colonial casas, the hotel hosts events of up to 150 people, or – for the ultimate experience – wedding parties can take over the entire hotel. Casa de Sierra

Nevada is an intimate romantic hideaway, with antique furniture lining intricately designed rooms, a shaded pool for the temperate Mexican summer, and the impeccable bespoke hospitality that the Belmond brand is synonymous with.

In the days leading up to the wedding, guests can enjoy romantic offerings onsite: intimate couples’ massages at Laja Spa, cooking classes at Sázon Cooking School, or mini mojigangas workshops crafting papier mâché effigies that are paraded through the streets of San Miguel on holidays. Welcome cocktails at Tunki Rooftop by Handshake, the awarded bar with the best views of the city, are the perfect introduction to the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, the most picturesque church in Mexico. Andanza, our signature restaurant, is well equipped for large parties, serving contemporary Mexican cuisine. Or for a lively taco night, guests can

enjoy the brand-new Patio Sant a Elena, with string lights, tropical flowers, and live Mariachi.

The day before the ceremony, guests can opt for a morning out on the tennis courts or the golf links, or for those more daring guests, a day of hot air balloons and ATV tours may be arranged through the concierge.

Nearby Guanajuato – the birthplace of Diego Rivera – is known for its Museo Casa Diego Rivera, where visitors have a glimpse into the muralist’s childhood and see his early work up close and personal. Wineries and walking tours abound in the region for those ready to take a load off before the big day.

Finally: the day has arrived. Bespoke wedding experts standby for guests’ beck and call, helping through every step of the journey for a stress-free, pictureperfect ceremony. Rehearsal dinners in the courtyard,

where guests enjoy live music and distinctive Mexican flavors. A full pre-wedding hair and makeup revamp at the rejuvenating Laja Spa. On the special day, Casa de Sierra Nevada’s verdant gardens provide an intimate setting to exchange vows among the enchanting Mexican greenery.

Weddings at Casa de Sierra Nevada are a bespoke partnership, start-to-finish, that ensures no detail is unaccounted for. Replete with activities for the foodies, the culture seekers, the adventurers, and the travelers just trying to relax, Casa de Sierra Nevada is a perfect wedding destination for happy Houston couples.

Love Beyond Words

The way you express your love each day, whether through words or actions, strengthens your relationships and makes those close to you feel valued. Love can be expressed in many ways: a knowing glance, a kind deed, shared memories, a thoughtful gift, or words of encouragement.

Getting life insurance is an expression of love that goes beyond words. It shows your loved ones—with certainty—that you care about protecting their future.

So, do you need life insurance?

If someone depends on you financially, you are most likely someone who needs coverage.

Life insurance provides cash to your loved ones in the event you pass away. This lets your nearest and dearest remain on firm financial ground even though your earnings have stopped. They can use this cash to pay for expenses like funeral costs, a mortgage, college tuition and more.

It’s time to express love beyond words with life insurance.

PLAN A WEDDING THAT

EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS

YOUR

America’s Largest Wedding Planning Event and Houston’s Local Resource has everything you need to plan your big day. The Bridal Extravaganza is coming January 11–12, 2025

Are you newly engaged and eager to get your wedding planning started? Or maybe you are a bride-to-be overwhelmed by what seems like an endless checklist of tasks to get done before the big day?

Either way, you are in luck! The Bridal Extravaganza is returning to Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center on January 11–12, 2025.

Let’s be real, wedding planning has the stereotype of typically being overwhelming and a stressful ordeal. But, it also can be a ton of fun if you let it be. That is why you need to grab your girl gang, your wedding party, your mom, or your fiance, etc. and head on over to Houston’s largest bridal show. You can even join in on the festivities by dressing in matching, wedding-themed outfits to bring all the fun!

The Bridal Extravaganza team knows that it can be difficult when a bride-to-be doesn’t even know where to start when it comes to wedding planning and has to source her own vendors for every single detail that goes into a wedding. The Bridal Extravaganza makes the process of planning a wedding as easy as possible.

Now you may be wondering, what on earth is a Bridal Extravaganza? That’s a good question! Imagine every type of vendor you can think of located in or near the Houston area all under one roof. Each vendor has a booth displaying the type of service they provide, examples of past work, QR codes to scan that lead straight to their website/business information, and passionate individuals who are excited to consult with you.

These types of vendors range from caterers, planners, wedding cake bakeries, banquet facilities, bridal registries, djs, photo booths, decorations, invitations, rentals, flowers, transportation, venues, videographers, photographers, hair and makeup artists, and much more!

Another unique part about the extravaganza is that there is a live fashion show with models walking the runway in gorgeous wedding dresses. The designers of these dresses have booths at the show that you can follow up and make appointments with when few dresses catch your eye. You could find the wedding dress of your dreams here!

The Bridal Extravaganza offers two types of tickets for guests: General Admission or VIP. General admission tickets are $15 if you buy them online before, but are $25 at the door. These tickets give you access to wedding vendors, chances to win major prizes, the ability to see the latest wedding trends, the opportunity to plan your dream honeymoon, the chance to sample award-winning cakes and catering, and the time to preview Houston’s top wedding venues.

VIP tickets are $50 and give you all of the same benefits of a General Admission ticket, plus the perks of being the first to enter on Saturday or Sunday, a welcome champagne/white wine toast, admission to a suite full of gifts and treats, access to custom cake and cookies, exclusive gifts, and special seating at the 2:00pm fashion show. Additionally, VIPs receive a $200 coupon to SymbolizeIt, a custom print vendor that is perfect for engagement photos, as well as a watercolor party favor for engaged ticket holders from Heidi Marie Artistry.

So, take a deep breath. All of the people behind The Bridal Extravaganza have got your back! This is such an exciting season of life for you and their team guarantees you will walk out of the weekend feeling relieved. Plan a wedding that far exceeds your expectations at Houston’s Bridal Extravaganza. The Bridal Extravaganza team hopes to see you there!
