Because the steel blade is harder than the

silicon brass body, there are two steel "wear plates" located at the bottom of the groove in the body. A quarter-turn of the locking knob is all it takes to adjust the length of the blade in relationship to the head. Once locked, the blade will remain in place until you need a change.
