What is the point of view/who’s point of view? Who is the narrator? the reader, author, character? I want to create a difference between the present and the future - the inside and the outside, the child and the wolf, the day and the night - an be done with colour, techniques, textures.

Red She is small, young about 3 or 4

She sort of likes books but isn’t sure. She likes animals and nature. She likes toys and is happy on her own. She lives with her parents and she likes to take herself off to be by herself. She isn’t sad but is contemplative.

She is like a wolf cub - inquisitive, short legged and fluffy. Small, curious, kind, indecisive, untidy, bright, a bit weedy, independent, loves family, introvert, wears a lot of Red. She wears her favourite hat all the time - even in bed. When her mum tucks her in she hangs her daughter’s hat on the bed. Next to her teddy bear/wolf teddy/toy. The ears on her hat mimic the ears of real wolves - position them to reflect her emotions.

Her favourite foods are lettuce and chip sandwiches. She’s vegan. She admires Greta Thunberg. She dislikes noise, hurting animals and tidying up. It is evening time/bedtime? Is this a bedtime story?

It is springtime - some snow on the mountain peaks but the forest is warm and becoming greener - cubs are born.

She becomes scared of wolves. Really scared. She has nightmares about them and maybe there is a monster wolf under her bed some nights - or maybe in the wardrobe.

Subject position - appeal to audience - like her, empathy, could be a girl or a boy - parents/guardian readers will feel protective, both might worry about her a bit.

Wolf

The wolf is much the same but an adult. He is like her parents - protective. A bit shouty at times. Good provider, carer - loves his cubs more than anything.

The Wolf is male and looks after his cubs. How do i show he is male? Does it matter? Use male pronouns in written text.

He lives in the forest and bothers no one but likes to keep an eye on things. He heard that people didn’t like wolves and can hurt them. He watches human cubs to protect them from adult human ways of thinking. He is kind, brave, decisive, clean, tidy, healthy, tall, strong, caring, intelligent, loves family.

Not the antagonist - appeals to readers - but may be a bit wary. Parents expect a baddie. But he is not. He is just a wolf becoming a wolf. Encourage empathy.
