‘KI’ - ACT ONE One to three spreads

Indoors.

Evening time. How to show it is night time? Dark outside, the moon.

Red is a small child. She is at home, in a warm home, in her bedroom with toys and books and art materials on the floor.

There are drawings and photographs - a family photo, her drawings of her family (little stick people) and her dog.

She is wearing pyjamas and a little hat with ears. She is safe and has all she needs.

‘SHŌ - ACT TWO Two to three spreads

There is a window, and outside there are other houses, lights, trees and mountains in the distance maybe.

Her wallpaper and curtains have animals and plants on.

There are a few house plants on the shelf, with a little watering can. (Signs of care)

There is a toy wolf on a shelf, a copy of Red Riding hood on the floor, she is/has been/does read the book before bed.

It gets dark. She reads in bed and falls asleep and drops the book. Or a parent tucks her in.

There are drawings of a wolf - big and bad. She is scared of wolves now.

Maybe the mountains don’t become a wolf but just remain suggestive of.

If a parent tucks her in, then a parent can appear at the end.

Outside. The wolf lives in the forest. Shy. Amongst the trees. Haiku inspired illustrations. Have at least one scene which shows nature for its own sake; it’s everydayness, not a specific part of the narrative or plotline.

In the present/every day/empathy/normal viewpoint/ vanishing point in the picture (Arran Stibbe’s haiku inspired photographs) The wolf is not dramatic, just being. The wolf being a wolf - or rather wolves being wolves.

He is looking after his cubs, playing, feeding and keeping them warm.

The moon. Is the moon a cliché of realistic wolf themes? Maybe the moon is in between the trees - in the forest not in the sky.

‘TEN’ continued

There is danger, trees are being cut down, fires and farms, and floods, cows and sheep, his thicket where his bed lies is gone.

There are trucks, diggers, with big eyes and big teeth. There are noises, helicopters, hunters.

He loses a cub in the water . . . . He scoops him up.

They must find a new home - but where?

They walk away

‘KETSU’ - ACT FOUR

Two to three spreads Four to six illustrations

Morning. Red wakes up, picks up her book, looks at it, puts it down, rubs out or tears up or throws away her drawings.

Maybe her mum sticks the good drawing to the fridge.

She takes the lifelike toy and a drawing perhaps, shows them to her family and hugs them.

Red opens a door - to the outside- - to look at nature, to experience it not just from books, to ‘see’ it.

What can she bring her parents/the adults to show them that nature is beautiful - something of the wolf, perhaps or just she shows them nature with her actions. Nature and people can not exist in separateness.

Notes

If parent appears at the end - hugs
