An alternative world-folk fusion delivered by virtuoso violinist Adam Summerhayes and baroque superstar harpsichordist David Gordon. The unique pairing of electric fiddle, sparking off the anciently funky sound of the harpsichord, is the equivalent of putting a rocket engine in a Morris Minor! Shostakovich Festive Overture Congolese and Western Choral items Congolese repertoire Sibelius Finlandia Berlioz Movements from Symphonie fantastique Beethoven Finale from Symphony No.9, ‘Choral’ (Programme subject to confirmation) The Hallé is proud to share the stage with this remarkable orchestra and choir, and welcomes these Congolese musicians at the start of their first ever visit to the UK. L’Orchestre Symphonique Kimbanguiste de Kinshasa (the Kinshasa Symphony) was formed in the mid-1990s by Armand Diangienda, its conductor and musical director. All the musicians are self-taught, often travelling hours on foot to attend rehearsals. As part of its visit, the orchestra will take part in instrument repair workshops and be given repair kits to take back home. The Kinshasa Symphony and Choir perform a wide range of repertoire, and will appear alongside the Hallé and members of other Hallé ensembles for what promises to be an inspiring musical event. The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, the jewel in the crown of brass bands, will be conducted by its Artistic Director, Bramwell Tovey. Over 5000 players have been members of the NYBBGB since its foundation in 1952. It is hoped that many will attend this landmark concert. £13

Getting Here The Hall is in the centre of Manchester, easily accessible by public transport and by road. Metrolink tram passengers should alight at St Peter’s Square. The nearest bus stops for major routes into the city centre are St Peter’s Square/Portland Street or Deansgate. The nearest rail stations are Deansgate and Oxford Road.

The nearest car parks are Park Avenue, NCP Manchester Central, NCP Great Northern or NCP Oxford Street. Remember you can book Park Avenue parking when you buy your concert tickets. If travelling by car, please allow plenty of time for your journey.
