Welcome to our 2018|19 season. This brochure includes all events for September and October, but we have many more events now on sale throughout the 18|19 season, including all of our Christmas concerts. See page 16 for details of New Year’s Eve.

Change to Booking Fees From 1 September 2018, booking fees will increase from £2.50 to £3.00 per ticket. Fees will remain at £2.50 for concerts from our resident orchestras and other selected events, including the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, International Concert Series and Manchester Mid-day Concerts. The Kitchen Ceili Band

Jali Nyonkoling Kuyateh

Master Qiang Di is a 12th generation practitioner of the Chen style of Tai Chi, accompanied with live traditional erhu music played by Henry Fung, Musical Director of the renowned Manchester Cantonese Opera Club.

A traditional oral historian or griot from The Gambia, Jali Nyonkoling Kuyateh is a master of the West African harp or kora. He has been featured on the BBC’s children’s programme Zingzillas.

Established on the UK world music scene since 2003, DJ Mayeva has performed at Croydon Summer Music Festival, Blue Dot, Kendal Calling and Africa Oye in Liverpool.

Henry Fung and Geli Berg (DJ Mayeva) share the history and capabilities of the traditional Chinese string instrument, the erhu and its role in the stories of the Cantonese opera and folk music.

The Orchestra Through the Ages A Set Works concert for schools & music pupils Friday 28 September 1.45pm Conducted by Jonathon Heyward and presented by Tom Redmond, this concert will take pupils from Year 9 through to sixth form on a guided tour of music from Baroque to film scores and will feature a number of orchestral pieces from the AQA, OCR, WJEC and Edexcel syllabi for GCSE and A-level music. The concert will give a brief history and musical analysis of these pieces and the evolution of the symphony orchestra, as well as feature soloists from the Royal Northern College of Music, all accompanied by the world-class Hallé. Throughout the concert, the orchestra will be captured on live camera feeds which will be displayed to the audience during each piece. The Orchestra Through The Ages concert is a collaboration with the Hallé, The Bridgewater Hall and the Royal Northern College of Music.
