mods definition: British gangs from the early 60’s and 70’s who’s rival were the Rockers. The Mods (short for Modernists) were notorious for pill-popping (blues, bennies, uppers, downers, ecstasy, amphetamines, barbs, booze, goofballs, etc., riding really fast on their Lambrettas/Vespas Italian high-performance scooters, clubbing, orgies, well-dressed/chic, mod hairstyles, listening to jazz/ funk/sixties R&B/The Who/The Kinks/The Beatles/The Rolling Stones/etc., partying nonstop (the original ravers), and anti-establishment/ anarchy against The Establishment.
Using courageous, bold colours with matching silhouettes to create iconic stand alone pieces. By including technical details allows reinvention of the classic pieces synonomous with the ‘mod’ era. A mix of tailoring/pleats creates volume for cutting shapes on the long lost dancehalls of the north. With the harsh northern winters, the multi layer pieces make an easy transition for the changeable weather. Practicality and fashion go hand in hand for these northern souls with double end zips, toggle fastenings and double hems evident throughout. Double topstitching, unusual clip fastening and quirky lining prints brings the trend into the 21st century. With roll neck jumpers, v neck sweaters and sweater vests, the style of hand me down & beg and borrow are the main influences.

This man had a classic 3 piece suit on, very countryside gentleman. With a mix of checks in both his jacket and tie all tied together with a mustard waistcoat. Traditional features such as brown leather brogues , a pocket watch and a silk red dotty pocket square.
Loved this lady’s use of selective peach colouring in both her shoes, hair and nails. Her 50’s style clothing accentuated by a leather belt at the waist, a retro brooch and a fur stole.
I liked the punk elements evident in this mans outfit. Tartan trousers with multiple zips , and 14 hole Dr martens. Finished with a leather jacket and a leather stud choker.
I liked the monochromatic colour scheme of this girls outfit. Interest was added through a mix of patterns and texture, checks, mesh etc. A bright pop of colour is added with her two tone orange hair.
I liked the mix of blues/pinks in this girls outfit. Her style is quite childlike, especially the denim pinafore with pink matching socks and shoes. I also like how she has her leg tattoos on show.
I liked this boy’s preppy style with a geometric print shirt, and dotty socks. A mix of fabrics made this interesting with suede, denim and leather.
This man had a long military coat on which i found interesting. Double breasted and traditional military style. The look was topped off with leather shoes, gloves and a grey baker boy hat.
This girls outfit had a nice mix of colours and print. Her burgundy blouse and bag match nicely, contrasting her faux fur coat and leopard print skirt.
This mans style is classic business man. His two tone brown leather brogues match the colour scheme of his scarf. A farmers flat cap compliments his long suit coat.
This boy’s jacket caught my attention as i liked the colour and the sheepskin lining. His mottled brown brogues complimented the jacket. I also liked the rounded collar tips of his shirt.
This gentleman was wearing classic staple pieces, such as a black ‘undertakers’ coat, felt fedora and brown brogues. I loved his electric blue laces in his shoes and his oversized striped scarf.
I loved this couples style. Her bold colour choices of olive green and purple, stand out against his all black ensemble. The print of her scarf different to that of her dress. A french style beret topped off her look. His look included a long double breasted coat, alongside a silk waistcoat. In particular interest to me is his bow tie although it isn’t an actual bow tie.
Top left/Bottom left I was drawn to this mans use of colour and texture. A black leather bag, jacket and gloves contrast his soft, pastel trousers and his brown timberland boots. Again drawn to this mans unusual and slightly feminine trousers. With a vintage floral pattern with white braiding, these trousers are eye-catching. He has teamed them with chunky leather boots and jacket.
Above Lovely mix of colour and texture in this mans outfit, with blue checked trousers, a grey flecked peacoat and bright green bag. He was also wearing yellow gloves that matched his yellow coat buttons.
This mans style screams punk. A band tshirt, a leather jacket topped with a sleeveless leather gilet. I liked the distressed nature of the leather gilet, which contrasted to his green Mohican and piercings.
I liked the tonal pinks of this girls outfit, with a mix of leather and marabou texture, with a strong statement necklace.

In the images I chose to study i liked the aspect of movement the most and chose to emulate that in my work. I chose to show movement in 2 ways, the first was the repetition of the collage. This method also echoes Muybridges works. I then chose to add paint streaks to emphasise the movement and the colour of the coat i have designed.
The influence for this work was a mixture of Sian Bonell’s & Edgar Somell. I created this with a mixture of collage/drawing and photoshop. I chose a simple pose almost “street style” esk to represent Somell’s style of photography. The aspect i enjoyed most about Bonell’s work was the blurred movement, which i chose to represent by using a glitchy effect i created.
I took the aspect of repetition from Eadweard Muybridge’s photographs and tried to show this in my work. I used a mixture of collage/pen/photoshop to create this.
