Investigating Hive Beach, Proboscis 2012

Ex Lab is a visual arts project responding to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site, bringing together artists with scientists to create new work. Ex Lab has five exciting new commissions taking place across Dorset, set against the backdrop of the Olympic and Paralympic sailing events. Bridport Arts Centre and PVA MediaLab are working with a group of artists called Proboscis, along with the National trust and the Hive Beach Café on a project called Storyweir.

Proboscis are collaborating with scientists and local people; capturing experiences, myths, amateur geology, folklore and tall tales of Hive Beach and the surrounding coast. they will bring this together with scientific data and observation of the landscape to explore how the human story of the Jurassic Coast and the physical geography influence each other in a new sound and visual event. On 19 & 20 May they will be at the spring tide Festival asking for your thoughts, experiences and stories of Burton Bradstock and Hive Beach. the final work will be installed on site from 29 July – 9 september, with special events on certain days – keep an eye on the website for details. Trisha Hayman

Barbara Green

Jane Fox

Predominantly a self trained watercolour artist, trisha Hayman’s paintings show the beauty of things that no-one looks at twice - from the fragility of skeleton leaves to the delicacy of a bird’s feather or insect’s wing.

Barbara green is a well known artist who lives in Morcombelake. this exhibition focuses on the original print making aspect of Barbara's work. It includes etchings, collagraphs, silk screen prints, and monoprints with descriptions of the methods used.

In this body of work, Jane Fox uses a girl in a wooded setting as an archetype and metaphor. the forest symbolises the frontier to the unknown. Is the girl in flight or on an adventure?
