The improbable oasis

Gold Medal Farm redefines the term ‘hidden gem’. Here, in the middle of exciting North Texas, with all of its world-class shopping, dining and diversions, is a private world of luxury, easy living and equestrian pursuits. Its 22-plus acres are conveniently near Dallas and Fort Worth, each within a 40-minute drive, while DFW Airport and its flights to the world is about 20 minutes away. Accessed by two gated entrances, Gold Medal Farm offers an elegant main home, a caretaker/guest residence, two barns, a covered arena and paddocks for grazing and riding.

The primary residence is of Traditional architecture and is crafted of brick, stone and wood. It features an open floor plan, vaulted and tray ceilings, multiple fireplaces, detailed woodwork and a gourmet kitchen to enjoy with family and friends. The three-bedroom

home is surrounded by lush landscaping and is complimented by an inviting pergola, outdoor grill and fire pit — just the place to gather on crisp Texas nights.

The farm’s second entrance leads to the second home, barns, arena and horse facilities. The handsome main barn offers 12 stalls under its vaulted roof, plus an apartment, tack room, office and washroom. The riding arena is a generous 200 feet by 80 feet, topped by a barrel-vault roof with exposed architectural trusses.

With its beautiful oak trees and visits from deer, squirrels and other wildlife, Gold Medal Farm is a special place: country living with prime horse facilities — one of the last of its kind in Flower Mound — yet amazingly close to two of the world’s great and growing cities, and all that they have to offer.

The back story

Gold Medal Farm was originally part of a 320-acre land grant of 1854, about the time the early settlers came to Flower Mound. (An original log cabin from the period is about a half-mile from the farm, restored and open today as the Gibson-Grant Historic Log House.) The current home was built in 1978 and extensively remodeled between 2006 and 2009, a project which also included complete landscaping, a new backyard area, a paved driveway, significant groundwork and the construction of the covered arena. The latter provides welcome shade, allowing it to be used throughout the Texas summers, and features GGT Footing, a substantial drainage system and a golf-course-style watering system. The farm’s 12-stall main barn was

built in 1985 and significantly rebuilt in 2018. The caretaker/guest house has benefitted from updates, too, and its apartment was renovated in 2022.

A place like no other

Centrally located in North Texas near the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Flower Mound is a community that prides itself on maintaining a small-town atmosphere while embracing and fostering a dynamic economicdevelopment environment. After experiencing unprecedented residential growth in the 1990s, the town now actively promotes a burgeoning commercial-development scene centered around the Lakeside Business District, located on the North Shore of Lake Grapevine, and the Denton Creek District, located in the growing I-35 West corridor. Providing quick and convenient access to the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, DFW Airport

and numerous recreational opportunities, Flower Mound has emerged as one of the best places in North Texas to live, work and play. It gets its name from, indeed, a mound where an unusual number of wildflowers grow — a 50-foot-tall phenomenon with as many legends, interpretations and stories (often contradictory) as there are bluebonnets in Texas. Because early pioneer settlers used the mound as a hay meadow and never plowed it, the wildflowers were conspicuously abundant in wet springs. (However, wildflowers and native prairie grasses flourish throughout the year.) The non-profit Mound Foundation has identified more than 175 species of wildflowers here. Today, Flower Mound has about 80,000 residents who enjoy all

the amenities of Dallas and Fort Worth — plus the town’s own low crime rate, great schools, beautiful open spaces, abundant recreation opportunities, first-class shopping and dining and one of the lowest tax rates in North Texas. There are nearly 1,000 acres of parkland, including more than 60 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails, numerous athletic fields, 57 parks and 35 unique playgrounds. The town is centrally located between Grapevine Lake and Lake Lewisville, providing access to miles of beautiful shoreline for outdoor activities. Community events are a tradition in Flower Mound, including an Independence Day celebration, summer concert series, art festival, Christmas Parade and much more.
