It began with such promise. Albion stormed forward and went one up within 18 minutes, with a Jesse Lingard goal albeit at the second attempt from within the box. But then Matthew Upson player of the season for The Seagulls - cut down Craig Forsyth just within the area; Chris Martin coolly slotted home the 29th-minute penalty. The wind went out of the Albion. Deflation was complete when Derby – against the run of play - went in front just before half-time, when Martin's strike hit the crossbar and bounced in off the back of Tomasz Kuszczak, whose run of ill-luck continues. Neither Ms Ruddick nor her husband wished to comment. Danielle Glavin, the party's regional press officer, did not respond to questions. Nor did Mel Davis, the city party's chair, and Peter Van Vliet, its treasurer. No finance report has been given to party members since the donation on December 1 last year. Interestingly, the answer may again be personal rather than political. A starting point is 53-year-old Mr Ruddick. Here is what Philip Bersford, author of The Sunday Times Rich List has to say about him: "A Cambridge graduate, Ruddick started working for Japanese investment banks as a derivatives trader in the early 1980s. He left in 1989 to form specialist equity derivatives boutique Westminster Equity, but sold his 50% stake five years later. "It was then that Ruddick cofounded Albourne Partners, now a hugely-respected hedge fund consulting firm. Initially based in a cramped office behind a butcher's shop in the Sussex village of Albourne, hence its name, Albourne has grown sharply. It has its own online village called Albourne, which has developed into an online
Library fines
Books City libraries collected £61,554 in fines in a year – the equivalent of £168.64 a day. The figure, relating to the 2013-14 financial year, was revealed in a Freedom of Information request made to Brighton and Hove City Council. Over that time period, just two complaints about fines were made. A woman who mistakenly thought she had returned certain books on time, and another unaware that she would be fined for late returns.

community for the hedge fund world. "Ruddick owns nearly 45% of the £90m business, which made nearly £9.3m profit on £45m turnover in 2012-13. Ruddick's stake and other assets should take him to £45m." It is believed that Ms Ruddick may have been attracted into making a donation through John Claisse, who holds a firstclass mathematics degree and a PhD from Sussex University. Mr Claisse is the San Franciscobased head of the portfolio group at Albourne Partners. Rob Claisse – thought to be his brother and co-founder of Brighton-based Progression Sports and Fat Sand Productions - is also a graduate with a PhD in Development Studies of Sussex University. College presses ahead with The Hive but the opening is delayed for a year

City College - which is facing union protests about a financial crisis that threatens up to 50 jobs - has revealed that the opening of The Hive, an exciting new "studio school", has been delayed by a year. The school, a new model for educating students aged 14 to 19, was due to open in Preston Road in September this year. The innovative model seeks to close the gap between what students need to succeed in the 21st century workplace and the skills and knowledge taught in the current education system. Supported by 15 employers in the city, the school will involve paid work-placements, in-depth enterprise projects, and the development of employability and creative skills. Latest TV is one of the key partners in the creation of the school, where it will have its studios. The delay has meant that the local TV channel - whose launch has been delayed until July - will broadcast initially from "pop-up" studios at the Latest Bar in Manchester Street. Lynn Thackway, principal of City College, said the original opening date was September next year, but the Department for Education required stronger governance and more specific and explicit commitments from

Brighton and Hove City Council overpaid 724 staff by £1,052,794, between 2010 and 2013, Brighton & Hove Independent revealed. Of the total, £215,017 is still outstanding. As a result of administrative errors, the biggest overpayments to individual staff were £38,490 (in 2010-11); £11,194 (2011-12); and £33,069.24 (2012-13). The average overpayments were: £2,155 (2010-11); £1,134 (2011-12); and £1,414 (2012-13). A council spokesman said overpayments were comparatively small, about 0.2% of the total payroll: “Overpayments are most commonly due to the temporary absence of a manager, for example, a manager on long-term sickness absence or maternity leave where there has been a delay or problem in providing interim cover arrangements.”

She said: “We decided that as a sponsor, in terms of timing, we wanted to resubmit our application with these changes, to open in September 2016. “We will continue to work very closely with Brighton and Hove Council in terms of planning for secondary pupil places and to ensure we plan effectively in terms of the development and
refurbishment of a building. We intend to make this submission later in the year and would hope to have a decision early in 2015.” Bill Smith, of Latest TV, said: "What makes The Hive so exciting is that it is part of a drive to turn Brighton and Hove into a film, TV and digital powerhouse. With 300 talented kids being provided with this kind of school, it’ll be like the birth of a new industry." The core values of City College remain the same, see page 6

Festivals are annual celebrations that showcase a world of talent Jason Kitcat @jasonkitcat
It is that time of year again, when we celebrate the Brighton Festival and Brighton Fringe both running throughout the month of May. They are our annual celebration of music, theatre, dance, circus, art, film, literature, debate, outdoor and family events in venues across the city. The Brighton Festival kicked off with the annual Children’s Parade, which was bigger and better than in previous years: 83 schools and 5,000 children put on a wonderful parade for all; I was delighted to see everything from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to Frankenstein represented in their remarkable costumes and floats. It is so wonderful to see our children enjoying the city, being creative with arts and music for the parade. These annual festivals showcase

Hard times for unhappy tenants struggling in village of Stanmer Frank le Duc @BHcitynews
Like a scene from a Dickens novel, tenants felt forced to go cap in hand to their landlord with a list of their grievances. The tenants live in one of Brighton's most attractive and unusual estates: the village of Stanmer. Their landlord, the archaic-sounding Brighton and Hove Estates Conservation Trust, was set up in the past decade by the landowner, Brighton and Hove City Council. One of the tenants, Jason Knight, spoke for his neighbours - like a plaintiff in the Victorian setting of the council chamber in Brighton Town Hall yesterday afternoon (Thursday). Mr Knight said that the tenants' concerns included: ■ the very poor conditions of properties at the start of tenancies; consistently sub-standard repairs; ■ higher rent increases than set out in tenancy agreements; ■ insecurity resulting from threats to evict tenants who merely wanted their legal rights respected; ■ dubious regard to the fact that the buildings are listed.
He said: "Despite many direct requests ... the trustees have - until the last few days, as this deputation approached consistently refused to engage with tenants on any specific complaints we have made. "We are also very concerned that the council's representatives on the trust can support rental increases of 15 to 20% on these council properties, given their backing to the recent motion put forward by Green councillor Bill Randall, supported by Labour's housing spokesman, Chaun Wilson, which calls for a cap on private rental increases. "The trust claims that, as a charity, all the income it receives from tenants' rents, aside from a small amount spent on administration, is spent on maintaining the properties and making rental payments to the council. "However, the most recent accounts available from the Charity Commission show that actually less than 50% of their income is spent on maintenance and rent, and the amount spent on repairs in 2013 was 50% lower than the previous year, despite a year-end surplus of some £30,000." Mr Knight and his wife and young family face eviction because

Nancy Platts, the Labour parliamentary candidate for Brighton Kemptown, has called for the renationalisation of the railways to bring about more affordable fares and better services. Ms Platts was the lead signatory to a letter to The Observer newspaper supported by 30 party candidates. On Tuesday, she told BBC Radio Four’s Today programme: “People in Brighton tell me they don’t understand how train companies can walk away with £300 million of profits every year while they pay around £4,000 for an annual season tickpassengers and we can secure this money by bringing rail franchises back into the public sector as they expire.”
he had the temerity to point out that the trust's managing agents, Smiths Gore, were trying to put up his rent more than his tenancy agreement permitted. Frank le Duc is the founder and editor of Brighton and Hove News. For more information visit: www.brightonandhovenews.org

The Grand Hotel has been sold to a private investor for an undisclosed sum, believed to be about £50 million. The hotel, which opened in 1864, was put on the market last November after the De Vere Group spent more than £7 million on improvements. Andrew Mosley, the hotel’s general manager, said the hotel was in “good hands” although the new owners have not been named officially. Wittington Investments – owners of Selfridges and Fortnum and Mason – had been rumoured to be among the front-runners. Mr Mosley said he expected the current management to remain.

Mothers protest at Sports Direct policy against breastfeeding in store Women took over a section of Brighton’s Sports Direct store in North Street to protest at the company’s stance on breastfeeding. About 25 mothers with babies - and supporters - breastfed infants on Tuesday as bemused staff looked on. Protests have taken place at Sports Direct stores across the country after a young mother was told to leave the Nottingham store while breastfeeding her three-monthold baby. Staff told her it was against the company’s policy and she had to feed her child outside in the rain while her father shopped. Stacie Madden, organiser of the "flashmob" protest in Brighton, was delighted so many people turned up. Ms Madden, who lives in Elm Grove, said:
”It felt really peaceful. It was a quiet, controlled, but purposeful protest. “We want Sports Direct to apologise and retrain their staff. It’s important to raise awareness of women’s rights to feed in public and make people realise breastfeeding is normal and natral.” Sports Direct has not apologised for the Nottingham decision and maintains a policy of silence on the matter by refusing to comment about protests. Posts on the company’s Facebook page have been hijacked by breastfeeding supporters demanding an apology.

Q. Help! I have a cowlick on my hairline. How can I get it to behave? Nicky Mcinnes A. Dear Nicky, cow licks can be very stubborn growth patterns. In general, the longer the fringe the better as the weight of the fringe will help pull itself into shape and stop the cow lick from jumping up. Also you can try blowdrying your hair with a strong styling product designed for straightening hair and whilst blowdrying, move the brush from opposite sides, against the growth pattern as well as with as this can help to control it better. Probably the best advice with growth patterns is, where possible, to go with the directional flow of the growth pattern or developing a hairstyle which works with the growth pattern and not against it. I hope this is helpful.

Kickstart for Worrisome Wilf
Wilf - a little boy with an over-active imagination - is the creation of Brightonbased Sean Baldwin and Martin Gordon. Their new richly-illustrated book, entitled "Worrisome Wilf’s Beastly Bedtime", tells the story of somone who is too scared to go to bed because of a noise that he hears outside. His bizarre imagination conjures up all manner of crazy scenarios, before he eventually manages to sleep. Another Night, Another Day by Sarah Rayner Rayner, who is a Brighton resident, has done it again - with her knack of turning what seems at first an unlikely subject into a gripping read. Three people, all of whom have some sort of problem, are eventually drawn together in Mooreland’s Psychiatric Clinic. There is Karen, a young widow who is coping, or so she thinks, with the loss of her husband and bringing up her two children single-handedly but is then devastated by the death of her father. We meet Michael, who feels helpless at the loss of his florist business and is tottering on the edge of bankruptcy, and Abby, who has a son on the severe spectrum of autism who simply cannot cope any more.
The clinic saves lives. But it seems a bit of a postcode lottery whether you manage to get there on the NHS, or if you have to shell out a fortune to go privately. Some lucky people have insurance, of course, but that is a minefield in itself. The unfairness of this made me furious, but then a lot of things about the NHS has the same effect on me. At the clinic, they slowly reveal themselves and learn to laugh and trust each other with some dark and deep secrets. This is indeed a bittersweet read and made me care desperately what happened to these people and their lives. A brilliant book to read to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week (May 12 to 18).

Liberal Democrats select two candidates as parties gear up for May 2015 More candidates to stand in next year's city councils have been selected by Labour and the Liberal Democrats. With just under a year to go, the number of candidates selected by the mainstream parties has increased to 63. There are 54 seats in 21 wards in the city; 12 wards have three council seats, while nine wards have two council seats. Following the most recent selections, Labour has so far
selected 29 candidates (12 women, 17 men); the Conservatives have selected 31 candidates (20 men, 11 women); Christina Summers, an Independent councillor, will stand again. The Green Party will shortly begin its selection process (see article below). The two Liberal Democrat candidates are Jeremy Gale, in Central Hove, and Lev Eakins, in Brunswick and Adelaide. Mr Gale hopes to represent the ward in which he lives. He
is engaged with George Street Trader’s Association and the Central Hove Local Action Team; he also led the Liberal Democrat campaign calling for free Sunday parking in Brighton and Hove, about which city council is due to make a decision next month. He said: ‘With the elections just a year away, it’s clear we have all been let down by the failing administration. We’ve rubbish piling up on our streets, a shortage of school places, missed

Greens put their money where their mouth is when it comes to gender equality to restore seafront Ben Duncan @KemptownBen
Women have traditionally been seriously under-represented in British politics. Indeed, it has been observed that a woman born in 2014 - like my daughter, Minerva! - will be drawing her pension before seeing gender parity in the House of Commons. If she's lucky, I suppose, and successive Labour and Tories have not managed to destroy pension entitlements by then. This matters: not just because it is hideously unfair, but also because a male-dominated political chamber just is not as good at decision-making. Obviously, the Brighton and Hove Green Party does not get to choose the gender make-up of the Commons. But it can choose the gender of its own candidates - and of its members of the city council. Personally, I am delighted that the party has decided to put its money where its mouth is on gender inequality and has adopted rules that will promote women in candidate selection ahead of the 2015 elections. The new rules will require at least one woman to be selected in those wards that return two councillors – and at least two women in those wards, like my own Queen’s Park, that are represented by three councillors. There are a few exceptions,
to deal with those wards where insufficient female candidates come forward, for example, but it means that there are likely to be more female than male council candidates for the Greens, and, therefore, hopefully, more women than men Green Party councillors following the election next year. The opposite is true now: of 21 Green councillors, 13 are men and just eight are women. Of the seven committees we chair, men have the top job in five of them. The Greens have never had a female leader of the council - or a female group convenor. This will, it is hoped, go some way towards redressing this current imbalance. But it will do something far more important than that in my view: it sends out a clear and powerful signal that the Green Party is serious about tackling inequality. Men – especially heterosexual, white, middle-aged, middle-class men like me - have had the upper hand for years. I am delighted that we, in Brighton and Hove Green Party, have chosen to do something, however small, to help redress the balance a little. The next step is some affirmative action to promote other disadvantaged groups. Watch this space!

At this rate, it could take us until 2201 and cost trillions to restore seafront Mike Holland @RealMikeHolland
There we have it then! Our Jolly Green Council is now openly admitting that the tiny portion of our seafront restored and renovated so far has cost almost £5 million and taken two years to achieve. This news was broken to us on Monday in an open letter from Councillor Ian Davey - in the typical trumpet- blowing manner we have come to expect from this chap. Well, Councillor Davey, congratulations to you and your party for this herculean achievement in restoring this minuscule part of our seafront. I see you are now embarking on another pocket-handkerchief section, while disrupting the seafront for another two years. At this rate, I calculate, you will have reached the Palace Pier by the end of this century and possibly Black Rock by the end of the 22nd century. I dread to think how many billions that will all cost with
i360 repaying its borrowings, let alone pay out a dividend on profits. Dream on, though, boys and girls and let us hope we get some more sensible people in power after the next local elections. The answer, surely, must be that, if we are able to borrow money to lend to a private developer in order that he is able to fund an almost certain folly on our seafront, then we are able to borrow money instead to carry out a speedy two-year plan to deal with all the defects to our most important seafront structures between our If we are going to deal piers. with the problem effectively, Common sense tells us that we do not want this let us do so now” disruption to our seafront for many generations to and, indeed, some of our Jolly Blue come. If we are going to deal with ones, too - we are going to be given the problem effectively, let us do so now. Tourism is, and will remain, a £1m year from profits. Now, I am not sure what these our lifeblood - no matter how guys are taking, but we ought to successful creative industries are check, because this sounds to me locally. All we are doing at the moment about as likely as Ozzy Osborne becoming the next Mayor of London. with our constant seafront works is I would say it is a safer bet as to send out yet another message to there is no possible chance of the people. That message has certainly inflation, but at today's rate of £5 million every two years, it is nearly half a billion. So we might as well take a stab at it and say a trillion pounds by 2201. Quite where this figure of £80 million that is bandied about comes from - and how they arrived at it mystifies everyone I have spoken to. Still, of course, it does not matter, does it? Silly me! We have the i360, that will sort out all our problems. Apparently, in the Never Never Land of our Jolly Green chums -
Only a tiny portion of the seafront has been restored, at a cost of £5 million
got through to many people: that it is easier to take the family to Worthing or Eastbourne, if you fancy a day by the sea. No matter how much fun our city can be, we have to admit that - as far as being a user-friendly destination is concerned - we could do a lot better. The message needs to be sent
out to those purporting to be representing us that, thus far, we are not terribly impressed with their performance. No doubt we will be hearing some serious trumpet-blowing from all sides in the build-up to the next local elections. I am sure it will be the usual riveting stuff, too. Happy days!

Putting Children First As a Collaborative Family Lawyer and Mediator working with separating parents there’s a phrase that I will use with almost every couple I see. ‘Putting the Children First’.….. more than just words it is the guiding principle for the way we work together. For couples choosing the collaborative rather than the adversarial route to end their relationship it provides a clear focus for the way forward. Every May as the Brighton Festival kicks off I see this principle in practice – I love the fact that for all it’s quirky performances and stimulating adult events it is the Children’s Parade rather than an adult event that marks the start of a month of prestigious celebrations. It brings the city to a standstill, the traffic stops and everyone involved puts the children first. For over 25 years the Children’s Parade has opened the Festival, with over 5,000 local children taking over the city centre dressed in amazing outfits that they (with help from their parents) have designed and made themselves.Year on year around 80 local schools, from infant to secondary, participate and months of hard work turns into a fantastic procession of dance, drama and fun for the whole city. It’s hectic and noisy yes but I find it quite awe inspiring as thousands flock to watch and be part of the biggest annual children’s parade in the UK. Of course most of these children will be cheered on by their parents – together or separated. For me it’s a symbolic reminder of how important it is to put children first and moreover it is possible.
Many separating couples think that the plotting and scheming is inevitable; one wins and the other loses. So when they come to me I explain it doesn’t have to be that way. Collaborative law is a way of doing things differently. Each partner has their own lawyer, we all sit down together to work out a way forward. And as a mediator I can also help parents negotiate some of the practicalities of parenting after parting. So we get down to the nitty gritty of issues like who will take the children to special events such as the parade, who will help make that show stopping costume? All in a way that is fair and puts the child’s needs first. Once the parents I work with understand that the process is open and built on trust then things become easier, they can start seeing that with some work their relationship with their ex can be okay. There will inevitably be ups and downs but events such as the Children’s Parade where the hard work pays off and everyone celebrates their child’s achievements are powerful reminders that it can be done.

Kidnapped girls A candlelight vigil for more than 200 missing Nigerian girls will be held tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm at the War Memorial in Old Steine, Brighton. The girls were abducted from their school more than three weeks ago by Boko Haram, the Islamist extremist group, whose leader has threatened to sell them. Similar vigils are being held across the United Kingdom as part of worldwide protests – including a Twitter campaign, supported by Michele Obama (pictured).

A new headteacher has been appointed to run the Brighton and Hove Virtual School, which caters for children in care and adopted children. Mark Storey will take up the post in early August on a salary advertised as being between £55,000 and £60,000 a year. Mr Storey, who graduated from Sheffield University 13 years ago, joins from Warrington, where he was head of the Virtual School for Vulnerable Children. He will replace Mary Hinton, the interim head at the school, which opened in 2010.
Fire has damaged industrial units at the Hyde Business Park in Bevendean. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent six fire engines to tackle the blaze in Auckland Drive, shortly before 7.30pm on Monday. There were no casualties. Investigators were trying to find the cause of the blaze, which appears to have started at Harman Plant Hire.
Two universities have given police personal details of dozens of students over the past three years. Sussex University has provided details for 20 students and Brighton University for 16 students. The details are revealed in a series of Freedom of Information requests made via Whatdotheyknow.com under section 29 of the Data Protection Act, along with similar requests to universities across the country. Some universities have disclosed many more students’ details, and some far fewer.

Campaigners who want Portslade to have its own museum have been given three months to make a plan. They have pinned their hopes on the chance to use the old police station in St Andrew’s Road as a site for a museum. They were told that they had three months to find a way forward after an appeal by Councillor Alan Robins to the city council’s policy and resources committee.
Plans to convert a Hove off-licence into a micro-pub have prompted dozens of letters of both support and opposition. In March, it was reported that Rick and Ruth Evans and Dave and Ali White wanted to open The Lion Mews Tavern in Richardson Road, at the York House Wines shop. Their planning application will be heard by the city council’s planning committee on Wednesday (May 14).
Brighton and Hove City Council hopes to cut food waste by offering cut-price compost bins to people living in the area. The council said the home compost kits were being made available to mark International Compost Awareness Week. Compost bins are being offered to residents at significantly-reduced prices (from £5 plus £5.49 for delivery), as part of a special “share and save” offer promoted in partnership with www.getcomposting.com.
Recycling
Communal bins Communal recycling is being introduced to 76 streets around London Road, Queen’s Park and Rottingdean. The large black bins will be put in place as part of phase five of the communal recycling scheme. Residents in the streets will no longer be able to use their black boxes, but instead put plastic bottles, food and drink cans, cardboard and paper in the communal bins.

Thousands of youngsters from 83 schools took to the streets of Brighton for the Children’s Parade. The annual parade was the opening event of the Brighton Festival and, with sunshine and hardly a cloud in the sky, the weather was much kinder than last year. The theme was the arts, with different sections of the parade focusing on different genres, including dance, theatre, film, visual arts and books.
External lighting to individual homes and hearing loops in communal lounges in sheltered accommodation will be installed under the investment programme of work to improve council accommodation. This follows all council homes in the city now reaching the government’s Decent Homes standard, the result of an extensive four-year programme installing items such as new bathrooms, kitchens and doors.
Brighton Digital Festival has received funding from Arts Council England to support it over the next two years. The festival, which also hopes to extend its partnership with American Express for 2014 and beyond, will also use the funds to appoint a new festival director. Hygiene
Brasserie fined The owner of a Hove brasserie has pleaded guilty to 16 food hygiene breaches and was fined more than £10,000 at Brighton Magistrates’ Court. Brighton and Hove City Council health inspectors found such a significant build up of grease that it was not only a hygiene issue, but it also posed a fire risk. Proceedings against the company previously running the restaurant, Pascals Brasserie Ltd, were withdrawn after it went into voluntary liquidation at the beginning of April.
Football
College treble With an exciting 4-3 win over local rivals Sussex Downs College, City College Brighton and Hove won the Sussex Schools FA County Cup for the third time in five years. The college is one of only two teams who have retained the trophy since the turn of the century. In the final, at Hayward Heath FC’s Hanbury Stadium, City started well and made their constant pressure count when they took the lead through Luke Donaldson.
Sussex Downs equalised through Dan Perry and took the lead shortly after half-time. City equalised through James Walkerand then went in front a second time through Joe Kay. Curt Gayler scored a fourth, before Sussex Downs scored a spectacular consolation goal. City College’s Football Academy has been in existence only since 2008, but has become a formidable force in Sussex youth football. This season, the college has set up a link with Whitehawk FC, where it has established an under-18s team.
Hippodrome
Cinema objection The Theatres Trust has criticised plans to turn the Hippodrome in Brighton into a £20 million cinema complex and have submitted a 10-point objection to Brighton and Hove City Council. The trust said that the developer had not demonstrated that there was no alternative viable use for the Hippodrome in its current form. It is concerned the building will not be conserved in “a manner appropriate to its historical and theatrical significance”.
Food
Street Diner returns Street Diner, one of the hits of Brighton’s food scene last year is now coming to Hove. The popular food market will pitch up every Wednesday from May 14th outside Hove Town Hall from 11am to 3pm. Traders will include gourmet Sussex burgers from The Troll’s Pantry; Vegan Middle Eastern Meze from Sultan’s Delights, Venezuelan Arepas from Toston Tolon; and locally caught gourmet Fish Subs from Olly The Chef.

An illness that wrecks lives Graham Chainey
It is an illness with about 50 names, none of them very apt. An illness with up to 50 different symptoms, affecting every function, physical and mental. An illness with no clear diagnostic test, no known cure, no agreed treatment, and very little medical research being undertaken into its causes. It is an illness that can wreck lives, leaving its victims bedbound and dependent on constant care. And yet it is still too often dismissed by medical professionals and others as minor, psychosomatic, or even a form of hysteria. An estimated 5,000 people in Sussex, including myself, suffer from it, about 250,000 nationally, untold millions across the world. Monday, May 12 is ME Awareness Day. There is much I could write to mark this day. About my own lessthan-helpful treatment by the medical profession over more than 30 years. About the fluctuating course of ME research over many decades, which never seems to crack the enigma of this disease.
About its enormous cost to society. About the way the benefits agencies have discriminated against sufferers. How the psychiatric profession and the pharmaceutical companies have conspired to gain from it. And how governments have chosen to turn a blind eye. But I thought, instead, I would focus on some of the people themselves, the sufferers. Giving the lie, I hope, to any lingering notion that this disease is restricted to malingerers, hypochondriacs, or “yuppies”, here are the names of some of those who have battled with it. Lady Elizabeth Anson, cousin to the Queen, got it in 1986. The 11th Duke of Northumberland apparently died from it in 1995. Michael Mayne, dean of Westminster Abbey, had it. Shirley Conran has had it since 1972. Filmmaker Lord Puttnam succumbed to it in 1988. Randy Newman was once a “near-invalid” with it. The singer Cher was, for a while, too weak to lift her head from the pillow. Yachtswoman and novelist Clare Francis has had it since 1986. Laura Hillenbrand wrote her bestselling “Seabiscuit” while bedbound with it. Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper has had it. Jazz pianist Keith Jarrett

was for years too weak to touch the piano. Michael Crawford had to retire from acting for several years. Esther Rantzen’s daughter, Emily Wilcox, was severely affected with it (she was finally cured by the controversial Lightning Process). Frieda Hughes, daughter of Ted Hughes, has had it. Charlotte Eagar, war correspondent, got it after catching a virus in Afghanistan. An even longer list could be compiled of those, not celebrities, who have died as a result of this illness, in turn giving the lie, I hope, to any lingering notion that it is merely some kind of mild fatigue, and not a proper disease. I name just two. Sophia Mirza, who lived in Brighton, became in 2005 the first person in the United Kingdom to be certified as having died from the illness. Severely ill for six years, she had all the worst symptoms, being bedbound, unable to speak or have visitors, and hyper-sensitive to light, sound, electromagnetic fields, and chemicals. Her doctors dismissed her illness as psychosomatic, her GP struck her off, and at one point she was sectioned and forcibly taken away to a locked psychiatric ward. She was 32. Lynn Gilderdale, from Heathfield,

The ugly face of Euro-scepticism Tony Greenstein @TonyGreenstein
Britain is retreating into isolationism and chauvinism whose main target is the European. We are in danger of leaving the European Union by default. The European Union was the brainchild of Jean Monnet and Robert Schuman. The idea was simple: to share the iron and steel resources of Germany with the other four founding states and, thus, eliminate the possibility of another world war. The Treaty of Rome establishing the European Economic Community was formally set up in 1967. Britain still harboured illusions about the British Empire. As Dean Acheson, US Secretary of State, observed: “Britain has lost an Empire and has yet to find a role”. Suez confirmed that analysis. This was the basis of De Gaulle vetoing British membership in 1963 and again in 1967. Only in 1973 did Ted Heath succeed. There were just a handful of Tory opponents of entry; opposition was mainly confined to the Labour Party. The EU accounts for 48% of total UK goods and services exports (2010) to Europe and 39.7% of trade in services (compared with 20% to the USA). An exit from the European Union could have a devastating effect in terms of non-EU
investment in the UK and unemployment. Growing Euro-scepticism across Europe heralds the growth of neo-fascist parties and anti-immigration parties. The Conservatives have a primarily economic view of the EEC. To them, it is not a social body. They would be content with just the single market, since they do not see why even minimum protection for workers should be included. Equal pay is a fundamental part of the European Treaty. The Social Charter, which John Major vetoed, guarantees all workers a minimum of four weeks’ holiday. Most of the anti-discrimination legislation – sex, sexual orientation, disability, age and so on derive from the European directives. What the European Court of Justice has done is to ensure a further level of protection for citizens, against an Oxbridgeeducated British judiciary who usually practise in the commercial and business sectors. If we did leave the EC, then there would be no constraints on a judiciary that historically has been anti union and hostile to the rights of workers. The pillar of the European Union that has caused the blimps to howl and squeal has primarily been the free movement of labour, the idea that you can go - as of right to work in another European state and be entitled to the >> Continued on page 18

A total of 15 parties - with 118 candidates - are contesting the southeast region in the European Parliament elections that take place in this country on Thursday, May 22. Across Britain, a total of 30 parties are putting up candidates. Each party is entitled to propose a list of candidates in each of the United Kingdom's 12 regions. The number of candidates depends on the population of the region - from three in the northeast of England and Northern Ireland, to 10 in our region. In total, 73 MEPs will be elected, using a "closed-list" partylist system of proportional repesentation that employs what is known as the “D'Hondt method. When you vote, you do not need to understand too much about the system - which, in brief, means that seats are allocated in proportion to the number of votes received by a party; parties
determine the order in which candidates will be elected, if sufficient votes are cast. The higher candidates are listed by their party, the more likely they are to be elected. The number of party candidates elected is directly related to the number of votes a party gets. Today, we list candidates for only the six main parties. Others with candidates in the southeast are: An Independence From Europe (10 candidates), British National Party (10), Christian Peoples Alliance (9), English Democrats (10), Harmony Party (2), Liberty Great Britain (3), The Peace Party Non-violence Justice Environment (10), The Roman Party Ave! (1), The Socialist Party of Great Britain (10), and YOURvoice (3). Voting in 28 member states in the European Union takes place from Thursday, May 22 to Sunday, May 25. Most of the results will be announced on May 25.

Argus threatens legal action to stop staff exodus to rivals Greg Hadfield @BrightonIndy The Argus, the ailing Sussex newspaper, is threatening legal action in a last-ditch attempt to stop employees leaving to work for rival media companies. It has demanded a written undertaking from an experienced sales executive that she will not move to a competitor for at least six months. It said it would seek a court injunction, if she did not give the undertaking within seven days. After a meeting with Dawn Sweeney, managing director of the Newsquest-owned newspaper, the employee who cannot be named for legal reasons - received a letter that warned her the newspaper, if successful, would seek costs and damages for any alleged breach of contract. It added: "We will,

The Argus has not listed companies that it might regard as “a competing business”. It is not known if any of the other Argus employees who have applied to work for this newspaper will be affected. The hardline stance comes as a staff exodus continues at the newspaper - which sells fewer than 5,000 copies in Brighton and Hove and which is trying to move out of its offices, opposite Asda, on Hollingbury Industrial Estate. Average circulation - which used to be 100,000 a day - fell by 21.1% in the six months to the end of last December. newspaper's leading journalists have quit, including Tim Ridgway, the award-winning reporter and columnist, who is head of news at Latest TV; Bill Gardner, named Newcomer of the Year at the EDF Energy London and South of England Awards, who left to join a news agency in Cambridge; and John Keenan, the business editor, who is now content and publications editor at Red7, the Brighton-based leisure company that specialises in hen and stag parties. Among the most recent departures were Kim Protheroe, the features editor, and Peter Truman, a senior reporter. The latest to quit was Anna Roberts - the newspaper's award-winning crime reporter - who left on Wednesday to join the Press Association. Separately, The Argus is seeking to implement a wave of
redundancies that will see "the only daily newspaper in Sussex" being sub-edited 168 miles away in Weymouth, Dorset. When the redundancies were announced last month, staff were upset that so many longserving colleagues were leaving, especially Julia Mans, the chief sub-editor, regarded by some as the glue who has struggled to hold the paper together.

Many people are turning to residential property purchases as a form of investment. There are a number of reasons for this, including the perceived unpredictability of the stock markets and the current low interest rates on savings accounts. One major incentive for property investment in the city of Brighton and Hove is the expectation of capital appreciation in the medium term. There is clearly no certainty of this and analysts are advising that interest rates are likely to rise in the near future; however, Brighton and Hove is seeing a buoyant buy-to-let market right now. Picking the right location is, of course, key to this process. Roger Kay is a director of Just Lets in Hove. They provide lettings, alongside a property acquisition service. Southern Water's unusual attraction This month Southern Water has opened its doors to one of the city’s most unusual attractions – the Brighton Victorian sewers. Each year, hundreds of visitors walk beneath the streets of Brighton, through a network of brick tunnels, to find out what really happens after you flush the toilet. The tour, which starts under the Palace Pier and ends in the middle of Old Steine Gardens, attracts local residents and visitors from all over the world, as well as a few famous faces. Over the years, famous visitors have included TV’s Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Paul O’Grady and pop star Suggs, from the band Madness. The tours give Southern Water a chance to spread an important message. Geoff Loader, Southern Water’s Director of Communications, said: “Every year in the UK we flush away two billion items that shouldn’t go down the loo. In recent years, a number of unusual objects have been pulled from the Brighton sewers including teddy bears, mobile phones and false teeth. “The biggest problem comes from every day items, such as
cotton buds, wet wipes and sanitary products as they are non-biodegradable. The only things that should be flushed down the toilet are the three Ps – pee, poo and paper. Everything else should be put in the bin.” Another sticky problem that threatens our sewers is fat, oil and grease. Most of us use fat and oil when preparing food, but this often ends up being washed down the kitchen sink. Over time, this hardens to form a concrete-like material that can block the entire pipe and cause flooding as wastewater is forced to escape through manholes and into the streets and rivers or, even worse, into homes. The team at Peacehaven wastewater treatment works,
which treats wastewater from 250,000 properties in the Brighton and Hove area, remove five tons of fat a week from water coming in from the catchment. However, it is easy to prevent this by simply collecting waste oil in a suitable, secure container and putting it in the bin once it’s hardened. As part of the Brighton Fringe Festival, a team from Southern Water will be located in New Road, Brighton, on 10 May to answer any questions and provide advice on fat, oil and grease, as well as water efficiency. For more information about the Brighton Sewers and fat, oil and grease please visit www.southernwater.co.uk.

The Foragers still has a little way to go to live up to award-winning reputation @placesieatbtn
Tucked away in Stirling Place is The Foragers, a pub that rings a bell in the ear of many seasoned Brighton and Hove citizens - and an establishment that has made a name for itself for serving awardwinning food.
Ordering a large glass of dark and fruity Shiraz (£6.30), I was presented with the daily specials on a large chalkboard by an enthusiastic lad who also talked me through the menu and informed me that their new head chef was still testing and trialling new dishes. He also added the menu changed every two to three months; I am not entirely sure this counts as

Not quite gastro-pub and not quite sit-down formal restaurant, The Foragers very much sits somewhere in the middle: table service, á la carte menu, and daily specials - yet seemingly packed with many locals enjoying a postwork pint. Clientele aside, was the food still any good? Having last visited The Foragers in July 2012 for a family meal, I was dazzled by its local, seasonal and often-foraged menu (hence the name). Visiting nearly two years on, however, the á la carte menu seemed stripped back, more traditional, and - dare I say? slightly predictable. One can only assume that throughout the past two years the pubs of Brighton and Hove have upped their menu game and The Foragers now seems to run alongside and not stand out as it once did.
seasonal. The emphasis on local produce, however, still prevails at The Foragers, with meat from Clayton Farm, East Sussex, and

organic vegetables from Sussex and Kent. Choosing the Crispy Pork Belly with fennel salad and salsa verde (£5.50) to start - followed by the Pink Roasted Duck Breast, with truffle mash, spinach and roast garlic puree (£16.50), for main proved to be a mixture of great highs...and room for improvement. Presentation wise, the crispy pork belly was a gorgeous-looking plate of food. Centred on a clean, white rectangular plate, the slather of pig was strewn with almost rustic-looking fennel and droplets of bright salsa verde. Full marks for the look and feel of the dish - although the pork was slightly dry and the assertive, anise fennel was overpowering. The salsa verde became pale and lost on the plate. In acute honesty, the dish lacked the pizazz and high standard of cooking The Foragers has built its fantastic reputation on. The pan-fried duck, by contrast, was a good dish. Three thick slices of duck breast sat atop a smooth, truffle-infused mash potato and
The Foragers @theforagerspub 3 Stirling Place, Hove, BN3 3YU 01273 733134 www.theforagerspub.co.uk finished with dark, almost bitter greens that complemented the richness of the truffle well. A slightly pinker duck and a smaller portion of the rich mashed potato would have taken this plate from good to great. Rounding off The Foragers with Homemade Carrot Cake - with cream cheese sorbet and candied carrot - was a terrific end to the meal: thick, dense and slightly sweet carrot cake parked neatly alongside an absolutely stunning creamy sorbet. The Foragers by no means lacked quality, just the dishes seemed a little rushed, a little over-cooked, and were very much still in their trial-and-error stage. With some refinement and reflection, The Foragers will soon be the crowning glory of Hove once more.

This historic variety comprises almost 200 different individual variants. The two most widely planted are the Muscat Blancs à Petits Grains and Muscat Ottonel; the former is the most noble variety, renowned for making the best and most distinctive wines with a genuine flavour of grape juice. Muscat Ottonel is less favoured, as it does not produce the same depth of flavour. The two, however, are often blended and create some beautiful pale wines - with intense and aromatic aromas of orange and musky perfume, with delicate crystalline minerality - that are a delight to drink. The natural sweetness of Petit Grains means it is also often used in sweet wines, such as the rich and fruity Muscat Baume de Venise. Its acidity often sees it paired with asparagus and spicy foods. But the delicate perfumed musk of this wine makes it a perfect accompaniment to fresh melon with Parma ham, delicate herby dishes, and salads. The sweeter Muscats love a dessert, with a hint of orange or rose that really bring out their flavours. Sam Gardom @SamGardom www.feastblog.co.uk

How to travel cheaply this summer The summer travel season is heating up - and so are prices. “Overall, we are seeing prices related to travel increase 3-4% this summer,” said Sarah Gavin, Expedia’s senior director of merchandising and integrated marketing. The recent merger activity in the airline industry is also leading to higher prices. “Domestic airfares are up the same amount,” Ms Gavin added. But travellers can still hit the road this summer without breaking the bank. Industry insiders share their tips: When searching, think smaller Pauline Frommer, editorial director of Frommer Guides, recommends searching smaller travel sites, such as Dohop (www. dohop.com) and Momondo (www. momondo.com), to find the lowest travel prices. “When you use the major search engines, at least for airfares, they are going to give you the fare they

Think outside the hotel box “Renting an entire apartment can be much more cost-effective than a hotel, especially when you are dealing with individual owners,” said Ms Frommer. “They often provide more space and have a

I will get around to sharing the pleasures of online shopping and beauty box bargains - such as at www.lovelulabeautybox.com later in the month. when it comes to spending on the trip,” Ms Gavin said.
Get app-happy In the past, waiting until the lastminute to book a hotel meant paying top dollar, but that is no longer the case. Ms Gavin said hotels with inventory can now send heavilydiscounted availabilities directly to apps without having to advertise too much about the pricereductions: “They are just targeting the app-users who are within a certain radius to help manage their inventory. Mobile bookings can save up to 40% on a hotel room.”
Get a season pass early If amusement parks are on the agenda this summer, Ms Frommer recommends getting a season pass before June for the best savings.

Jane Busby @Janeforstyle Even though the shops are full of outfits in different colours and styles, you may feel that you have still not managed to find exactly what you want in the high street shops. Have you ever thought about having something made to your specification and your measurements? One of the independent shops showing in the Brighton Thistle fashion show earlier in April was Brighton Bespoke Tailoring with a show stopper of a dress and a bespoke male outfit. Both outfits were especially designed and made for the show. Brighton Bespoke Tailoring has an experienced tailor in the heart of Brighton and offers a wide range of quality tailoring solutions and alteration opportunities at affordable prices to suit everybody. Not only do Brighton Bespoke Tailors design and make dresses, suits, waistcoats and much more from scratch, they could restyle that ‘special’ outfit in your wardrobe or update favourite items. It’s always good in this day and age to consider this option when it is so important to recycle. www.brightonbespoketailoring.co.uk

The Huracan’s 5.2 V10 makes 602bhp at 8250rpm and tackles 0-62mph in 3.2sec
Huracan is the new Gallardo, replacing the best-selling car in Lamborghini’s 51 years in the business. Can live up to big brother’s legacy - and topple the mighty Ferrari 458? About time! That Gallardo has been around so long it probably had cross-plies and a manual choke when it was launched. Yes, it was leggy, but it was also the most popular Lamborghini ever. The company has only sold 30,000 cars in its entire history, but 14,000 of them were Gallardos. Lambo is relying on the Huracan to repeat that success - a big ask when the supercar segment is more crowded and there are fewer buyers for those cars So this is a case of more of the same? Kind of, but we’re not talking about a facelift here - this chassis is brand new. It’s an aluminium structure, but features a centre tunnel and rear bulkhead made from carbon fibre. Lamborghini says that it’s 10% lighter and 50% torsionally stiffer than the Gallardos. It will also underpin the next Audi R8. The engine is a naturallyaspirated 5.2 V10 as per Gallardo, but now it has both direct- and multi-point injection. It makes
602bhp at 8250rpm (610ps, hence the name, compared with 560ps in the last Gallardo), and 413lb ft at 6500rpm, which is where the real kick in the back lives. 0-62mph takes 3.2sec, a 0.5sec improvement on the old car, and around the little Nardo handling circuit Lamborghini uses for development work, the Huracan is 2.0sec faster than the racy Gallardo Squarda Corse special, never mind the regular car. In fact, Lambo’s engineers told us that it’s as quick as its Aventador big brother. It almost matches it for visual drama too, if those pics are anything to go by It’s not quite as dramatic as the beautiful limited run Sesto Elemento, but this is a handsome machine. It looks so compact, and the surfaces so taut. Looking good is as important as punching a hole in the horizon where Lamborghini is concerned, and this one doesn’t disappoint. A Miura-style blackslatted engine cover is standard, or you can pay extra for a display window. How similar does it feel to a 458? Nothing like it. The Ferrari shrieks, the Lambo growls. The Ferrari’s ergonomics require spoonbending levels of concentration

As I have mentioned previously on these pages, I love Brighton and Hove. And I love bringing
my son up here, with the sea forming a beautiful backdrop to his early years, his first steps,
to comprehend and the interior doesn’t feel as special as the Huracan’s. Obviously the fact that one is four-wheel drive, the other rear-wheel drive, makes a difference, but the real division is in the philosophy behind them. For some reason only Ferrari sets its cars up to encourage you to explore the limits, and makes those limits accessible, even to drivers with modest talents. You really have to be trying hard to find out what’s behind the Huracan’s fun, but efficiency-overexhuberence, grip-and-go veneer. Verdict The Gallardo was lagging behind its rivals in key areas, including the transmission, but driving the new machine really rams it home. This is a far more sophisticated car that’s faster, more refined and much easier to drive fast or slow. The mellower but equally punchy engine would be far less tiresome than a 458’s on a long trip, and the ergonomics are easier to fathom. The more relaxed steering is more instinctive, too. The Huracan is great, and Lambo will sell loads. It makes a better daily driver but not hugely more exciting than the Ferrari. And excitement is the point of a supercar, right?
and his first words. One thing I do not love, though, is crowds. Admittedly, living in a seaside city, the destination of choice for hen and stag dos and English language students, to name but a few of our illustrious visitors, may not seem the best choice for me. Thankfully, my love of the sea and the quirky nature of this city overrides my dislike of crowds. Most of the time. There is one thing, however,
that I really cannot abide. And that is the school holidays. Tibbons and I are used to having the city as our personal playground two days a week, when most of you are at work and any children you may have are at school. It is what we are used to and it is how we like it. Imagine then how we feel when suddenly we cannot get a seat in our coffee shop of choice - when we have to queue to order lunch, when the park does not empty out around 3pm.
Imagine our dismay at finding the swimming pool teeming with noisy, splashy people - at having to share a bench on the seafront. It does not do, it does not do at all. Thank goodness for term time. That is all I can say. Time Waits For No Mum is a blog by “Mummy K”, who writes anonymously about motherhood and more: www.timewaitsfornomum.com

Since arriving on loan from Manchester United, highly-rated Jesse Lingard has become a permanent fixture in the Albion attack. Since Oscar Garcia’s subtle shift in tactics, Lingard has thrived in a flexible and fluid threesome operating behind Leo Ulloa. Has played a key role in six goals in his 15 appearances (before Thursday’s first leg) and he could prove key to Brighton’s chances of reaching Wembley.

Straight from Brighton Racecourse KIEREN Fallon has revelled in returning to bread and butter racing at Brighton after tasting the cordon bleu cuisine of his first Classic triumph in eight years. The veteran jockey, 49, claimed his fifth 2000 Guineas triumph on board 40-1 shot Night of Thunder at Newmarket on Saturday. And it was revealed he will share the role of trainer Saeed Bin Suroor’s stable jockey with Silvestre de Sousa at Godolphin the following day. But the six-time champion jockey gleaned as much satisfaction in enjoying his Race Hill experience this week. The Irishman, who has won the Derby and the Oaks three times, told the Brighton and Hove Independent: “Every race counts whether you are at Brighton or Newmarket. We as jockeys have to keep fitness, have to make money and keep our sharpness. “You have to be switched on when you ride at Brighton. It’s a good old track. I’ve got a good strike-rate there. “Brighton has supported me
since I’ve come to England. It’s been great – and let’s hope it continues. “I didn’t think another Classic was never going to come along again. It was a serious performance. “Godolphin using me to ride with Sylvestre is a great opportunity.” Fallon was pipped into second on Yojojo in the EBI Stallions Breeding Winners’ Fillies Handicap and runerup on Baars Causeway in the Brighton Thistle Hotel Handicap in Brighton’s twoday meeting. Sussex trainer Zoe Davison was “very happy” with her Skinny Love, a place down on Baars Causeway.

How the Albion made the play-offs
> Continued from page 1 onto the bar. And so Derby hold a slim advantage in advance of the second leg on Sunday, needing only to avoid defeat to make the Championship play-off final at Wembley on May 24. Steve McClaren’s side had already beaten the Albion twice this season and finished third in the Championship, 13 points ahead. Although Derby went into the game as favourites, it was the Seagulls who struck first after a lively start at the Amex. Albion’s lead, however, lasted just 11 minutes, with the home crowd stunned into silence after Derby – who always looked dangerous on the break - levelled from the spot. Derby continued to look dangerous on the break after halftime, but it was the Albion who came closest to scoring next. They
Jesse Lingard put Albion ahead within 18 minutes
dominated the closing stages and twice came close to levelling. Afterwards, Oscar Garcia said: “It was a totally unfair result. We were better than them in all areas. I am really proud of our performance. “If the ref had given us an early penalty, it would have been a better start. And in the second half we should have had a penalty but we need to improve in front of goal. “We knew they had a good counter-attack but it is difficult to play against the third-best
team in the league, and they are a very good side. “I am really happy with the performance and we did everything but score. We have to believe because we have to go there and get a result. If we don’t we will still come away with our heads held high.” Steve McClaren, the Derby manager, said: “It had everything. You saw every side of Derby County tonight. They started well, but we showed great character, got ahead and could have scored a couple more.”

■ Greg Woods at Crosby& Woods Solicitors discusses
Lasting Powers of Attorney
Have you have ever wondered about Lasting Powers of Attorney? What one is, what do they cost, whether you should have one and when is a good time to have one prepared for you? At Crosby & Woods we see many situations arise where the absence of a Lasting Power of Attorney (‘LPA’) already being in force can and does cause untold
distress and inconvenience both to the incapacitated person and also to their immediate family & friends with responsibility for looking after them. We hope this short guide assists the reader in understanding this sensitive but also very important issue and will help you decide if now is the right time for you to make suitable arrangements for the
future. A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows you to legally appoint the people you trust to make decisions on your behalf should you ever be unable to make the decisions for yourself. The LPA will normally become active when someone is incapacitated by unforeseen ill health (which can strike

There are two types of Lasting Powers of Attorney that are available: A Property and Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney covers decisions about your finances and property. If there comes a time when you are unable to manage your daily finances anymore, the Attorney will do this for you, for example by organising the payment of your bills on your behalf. A Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney allows your Attorney to make important decisions about your health and welfare should there come a time when you are unable due to illness or incapacity to make these decisions for yourself. For example, your Attorney can organise your day-to-day care, and make decisions on your diet and what you wear. If you do not make a Lasting Power of Attorney and in the future lack capacity to make these important decisions for yourself, then it may be necessary to make an application to the Court of Protection for an appropriate order, such as appointing another person to make decisions on your behalf. Not only is this process both costly and time consuming, the person appointed may not end up being your personal choice of
who you would like to be dealing with your affairs. As part of our commitment to helping raise awareness of this issue, one that is likely to affect all of us at some stage in our life, and to also provide a professional and affordable service that will allow as many people as possible to be able to properly manage their future affairs in an orderly and dignified way, we are offering readers of this paper the following discounted rates for all new instructions received between 1st May and 31st May 2014. To take advantage of any of the offers below, or to discuss any other related issues such as having a Will written by a Law Society accredited Solicitor, Estate planning, obtaining Letters of Administration or a Grant of Probate, please contact our Private Client Department today on 01273 734 600 to arrange an initial free and no obligation discussion of your needs and requirements. ■ For one Client Lasting Power of Attorney for Health & Welfare - £250+VAT Lasting Power of Attorney for Property & Affairs - £250+VAT If you wish to have both of the above, our fee will be £400 + VAT ■ For a Couple Lasting Power of Attorney for Health & Welfare for both £300+VAT Lasting Power of Attorney for Property & Affairs for both £300+VAT For both of the above for 2 clients - £550+VAT ** F or all LPA’s there is a court fee payable of £110 per application**
