Corbyn’s victory attracts city Greens to join Labour Membership of Brighton, Hove and District Labour Party has nearly quadrupled to 6,000 since the start of the Labour leadership election. Many members and supporters of the Green Party in the city are joining Labour because of the election of Jeremy Corbyn. In this personal commentary, JOHN MEDHURST - who has made the switch - highlights the significance of a sesimic shift in politics - locally as well as nationally. The election of Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party is the most exciting and transformative event in British politics for decades. Elected by an enormous majority of Labour members, his mandate to speak for Labour is clear. Since he was elected, tens of thousands of new members have flooded in to the party. Already the sea change is obvious. John McDonnell, a brave and committed socialist who said in the Commons that he would “swim through vomit” to vote against welfare cuts, is shadow chancellor - and George Osborne finally has a fight on his hands. Corbyn himself is quietly yet firmly signalling a change from the cringing conformity to the British state and its totems that often characterised Labour. His display of silent respect at the Battle of Britain ceremony - while refusing to sing an outdated monarchistic anthem
that celebrates crushing “rebellious Scots” - set a fresher tone and style: unafraid of media moguls who speak for the rich and powerful, standing up for the marginalised and poorest in society, and offering the hope and vision of a kinder, more civilised Britain than one dominated by an Oxbridge elite, City bankers, and boorish TV presenters. On Sunday (September 13), I attended a TUC fringe event at the Corn Exchange addressed by Green MP Caroline Lucas, PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka, John McDonnell, and exGreek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis. It was a truly inspiring and uplifting evening and it seemed to prefigure the kind of massbased, progressive alliance that is now emerging to challenge the Tories and their far-right policies. The “Green Surge” of new members to the Green Party earlier this year was an influx of people looking for a real alternative to
austerity and politics-asusual, but sadly the party seemed to fumble the ball when confronted with an historic opportunity. Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign for leader produced a similar surge - but a much larger one, far more significant and politically charged. For some in the Greens, this has meant a difficult decision to leave the party and join Labour, even though some of the key figures in the local Labour Party have shown themselves to be out of touch with the majority of the party and its allies. I think that will change, one way or another. The Green Party has a vital perspective on radical system change, one that Corbyn’s Labour must respect and learn from. I wish my friends in the Greens well and hope that a transformed Labour and a radical Green Party can work together - in Brighton and nationally - to replace an elitist, out-of-control Tory government, change
Deadline for applications to city secondary schools
If you have a child who is due to start secondary school in Brighton and Hove in September next year, now is the time to act. The deadline for applications to the city’s community secondary schools, academies, and free school for next year is Saturday,October 31.To apply online - and to find guidance and advice about the city’s secondary catchment areas and admissions process - parents and carers are asked to visit Brighton and Hove City Council’s website: www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/ schooladmissions.
Councillor Tom Bewick, chair of the children, young people and skills committee, said: “It’s vital for anyone applying for a school place that they do so before the deadline. “Every year, there are people who are not offered a place at any of their preferred schools simply because they missed the deadline. We recommend applying online as it means you automatically get your notification straight away instead of waiting for a letter in the post.” Parents who do not wish to apply online should contact the council’s

school admissions team at schooladmissions@brightonhove.gov.uk or on 01273 293653 for a hard copy of the application pack.
Company went bust owing £3.2m to council The company that collected cash from parking meters went bust owing Brighton and Hove City Council more than £3.2 million, Brighton & Hove Independent can reveal. It could have been worse. At one stage the company had owed the council more than £4.7 million. Coin Co International plc (CCI) was first appointed by the council in 2008 to provide cash collection and cash-in-
transit services, including car parking income collection and the collection of cheques and sealed containers from council premises. Council officers had decided the Sussex-based company offered significantly greater service flexibility than bigger national or global companies at a considerably better price. It had been trading for over 30 years. The council was an
unsecured creditor of the company and was owed £3,243,000 at the time it entered administration on November 27 2014. It is understood a police investigation is ongoing. OnTuesday, members of the council’s audit and standards committee will consider the lessons learned. They will, however, be told that it could be an expensive and difficult job to recover the lost money.
MP backs breast cancer Wear It Pink campaign
Caroline Lucas joined Yanis Varoufakis (far left) and John McDonnell at an anti-austerity meeting in Brighton
the political and electoral system, and take the country in a new direction. John Medhurst, who is writing in a personal capacity, is a trade union official and the author of That Option No Longer Exists: Britain 197476 (Zero Books). He is delivering a presentation about the politics of Aneurin Bevan, Tony Benn, and Jeremy Corbyn at the Cafe Salvage, Western Road, at 7.30pm on Thursday, October 1. Why I welcome Jeremy Corbyn’s victory, by Labour councillor Kevin Allen, see page 6
Dressing up for a good cause, Simon Kirby, Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown, was in good spirits at Westminster this week. Pretty in pink, Mr Kirby got involved to raise awareness of medical research charity Breast Cancer Now, which will hold its Wear It Pink fundraising day next month. The charity raises £2 million a year, and Mr Kirby said: “I am encouraging everyone in Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven to take part and Wear It Pink on October 23.”

d Hove: What do you think is fair? Factfile
The first meeting of the Fairness Commission is on Thursday (September 24). Commissioners, meeting in private, will hear presentations from Geoff Raw, the city council’s interim chief executive; Nick Hibberd, acting executive director, environment, development and housing; and Rachel Musson, interim finance director. Dr Tom Scanlon, director of public health, will also give an overview of some key facts and figures: ■ While life expectancy has increased, each year 500 extra people die due to the impact of deprivation - and 87 die
before they are 75; ■ One in six children live in poverty, but in the east of the city that proportion doubles to one in three; ■ Nearly one in four (23.6%) of people aged 65 and
older are affected by income deprivation and rely on Housing Benefit, Pension Guarantee Credit, and Council Tax Credit; ■ Most pensioners (85%) living in poverty live alone;
■ More than one in three people aged 65 to 84 (36.8%) have no access to a car; ■ People in receipt of Employment Support Allowance or Incapacity Benefit are more deprived than they have been.

Brighton and Hove City Council has won the Best Cycle Network Infrastructure Award for the Lewes Road sustainable transport scheme. The announcement was made at the Cycle Planning Awards in Walthamstow on Monday. The Lewes Road scheme involved the reallocation of road space along the busy three-mile dualcarriageway from Falmer to the city centre, providing improved cycle lanes and a priority lane for buses.
Following the council’s plea to private landlords, 14 properties have been identified to house Syrian refugees. Councillor Emma Daniel said it was “really wonderful” that landlords had responded, and it means refugee families will not be placed in council houses, which may have caused “tensions” with those on waiting lists. Refugees are expected to arrive in the UK “within days”, but it is unclear whether these families will come to Brighton.

They all wanted a second class stamp. It was a Monday afternoon, and the queue stretched down Western Road, but they all seemed happy. That’s because they were holding a peaceful protest about the possible closure of Brunswick Post Office. Just hours before, a 5,400-strong petition was handed to John Taylor, area manager for the Post Office, by Peter Kyle, Hove MP, Green councillor Ollie Sykes, City Books owner Inge Sweetman, and resident Sheila Levenson.
A free concert with guest, Dr Hilary Jones of ITV fame, was held to raise awareness of hearing loss, which affects 50,000 in the city. The concert, at the Pavilion Gardens on Tuesday, saw the Rock Choir perform, and the deputy mayor of Brighton was presented with an award - to celebrate East Sussex being the second most musical county.

Hove tech companies on top Ideal Networks
Ideal is an IT solutions and strategic consultancy provider. Its mission is to delight all of its customers, all of the time, with technology solutions to enable them to achieve their absolute potential. Claire Hopkins, managing director of Ideal Networks, told us more. Why did you start set up Ideal Networks? We started Ideal because there was a gap in the market for an IT company to go to market leading with brilliant customer experience. We provide small company agility with big company breadth and depth of technical expertise. And it’s amazing to work in the same city that we live in and love.
Why is Brighton and Hove the perfect place to start a tech businesses? With two universities there are loads of smart people who never want to leave and there’s a great mix of creative, commercial, and technical expertise here. We have been able to recruit a brilliant team of people who want to live and have a career in their city by the sea.
Any tips for budding tech entrepreneur? Work hard and build a brilliant team to work hard with you. Technology moves quickly so put your customers first, listen to and understand their business challenges and architect technology solutions, which are relevant and help solve their challenges. And get involved in the movement to support more women into the industry.
Brandwatch Brandwatch is the world’s leading social intelligence company. Its social media listening and analytics technology platform gathers millions of online conversations every day and provides users with the tools to analyse them, empowering brands and agencies to make smarter, data-driven business decisions. We spoke to Giles Palmer, CEO of Brandwatch. What makes Brighton and Hove a hub for tech businesses? Despite now being a global business, we began in Brighton by recruiting the smartest heads for our engineering and we continue to base our development team here. Brighton has long been a hub for digitally creative minds. Being in Brighton has helped to maintain those parts of our character, which is aligned to the town. There’s a strong design ethos in Brighton. Plus there’s a kind
of quirkiness and a collaborative element to Brighton and a kind of holistic, green, look after each other vibe, so that’s also a big part of our culture. Why did you start Brandwatch? We are a long way from what we started out to do, but the tech world has changed so much in that time. I built a company that I really want to work in and can feel excited about going into the office every day.
What advice would you give to a start-up tech business? It comes down to conviction. You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. When you think about something and you visualise the future, if you really think about it enough, you can make these things real. Once you’ve convinced yourself, it’s then reasonably easy to convince other people because you just stare them in the face and say “we can do this”.
MPB MPB is Europe’s leading platform for trading high-end used photo and video equipment. MPB builds its own technology and offers both buy and sell services through the same platform, differentiating itself from other eCommerce sites. Matt Barker, founding director, of MPB tells us more. Tell us why you set up your business? I began trading products through eBay while studying at university and soon realised how time consuming and frustrating it could be. I set up MPB because I wanted to create a technology platform that would allow people to trade their used equipment quickly and easily. Now, with a whole team around me helping me take MPB to the next level, I’ve never been more excited about taking the company forward.
What makes Brighton and Hove such a great place to start a tech businesses? Building a great team is key to building a successful tech company, and Brighton has a huge number of technically talented coders, marketers, and creatives. There are some great groups where entrepreneurs can share their experience and get advice, as well as opportunities to attend leading tech events.
What advice would you give to a start-up tech company? Make sure you’re fully committed and build a team who share your passion. Take all advice on board, but don’t be afraid to do things differently. Retain as much control as you can, it will give you more options for future rounds of funding. Finally, the best piece of advice I was ever given: walk through open doors, have every conversation, take every opportunity, accept every offer of an introduction. It might just lead somewhere.
Brighton has a rich history of being a place where innovative businesses succeed, and it has a strong backbone supporting the digital sector, making it a great place for tech Darren Fell, Crunch Accounting

Companies use social media to promote products and communicate with customers. But there are risks and rewards; from finding candidates for jobs, to dealing with problems if their employees make controversial comments that drag your company into a Twitterstorm. Here are five tips about social media and the workplace: 1. Who posts for you and about your company? Do they know what they can and cannot say, as well as the right tone to use? Make sure your employees clearly understand what’s appropriate on social media and if any trolls make critical posts, what they should do. Spending time working to avoid problems is better than fire-fighting.

2. When and where: Are you spending too much time on Facebook because you understand it and not exploring other sites? Check where your customers, competitors, and potential new employees are, and use those social media sites too. One tweet at lunchtime might reach more people than regular status updates on Facebook.
see what you post, and you want news of your vacancies to reach as many people as possible. If in doubt, check out other company’s posts to see how they promote their job searches on each social media site.
3. Recruiting? Tell everyone through your social media accounts and think about encouraging your employees and contacts to help you spread the word too. That way thousands of people might discover you’re hiring, rather than just a few dozen - and especially if you use the next tip too.
5. Employees: it’s not “private” if your account is public or you name your employer in the bio. If you really want to post about work on social media then make sure your account is private, take out any references to where you work, and unfriend your work colleagues. The overwhelming majority of complaints about comments on social media happen when you’ve forgotten that your colleagues and maybe your manager can see what you’re saying. But if you really have to say “I hate my job” without it backfiring, say it to your friends and not on social media.
4. Use hashtags when you’re hiring. If you don’t, only a section of your followers will

Ana Groom, a former Brighton student, has been identified as a “future industry leader” by The Engineering Development Trust (EDT), after her work with Rolls-Royce. The former Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College student, who is 19 years old, has been taking part in the Year in Industry programme. Gap year students are placed for up to a year with top industrial employers to enable them to work on real commercial projects which benefit their companies. As a result of her work with Derby based RollsRoyce, Ana was selected as one of nine finalists at the EDT’s national Future Industry Leaders Awards which took place last night (Thursday) at the Royal Academy of Engineering in London. Ana’s project involved developing a new capability within RollsRoyce for programming robots that undertake “shot peening”, a process which is used to finish metal parts to prevent fatigue and stress corrosion failures and to prolong product life
for the part. This capability had previously been provided by outside suppliers. Dominic ThorntonFlowers, chief of Manufacture Systems, Rolls-Royce plc, said: “Ana’s project has been of significant and strategic importance, providing a competitive advantage for Rolls-Royce as a company and the UK as a major aerospace exporter. “The project represents a major leap forward in terms of robot programming capability. As a helpful and knowledgeable member of the community, Ana has become one of three technical experts in this area. “Many colleagues often mistake her for a fully trained manufacturing engineer. Her legacy within Rolls-Royce will stand throughout and beyond her time at university: the knowledge she has created and shared will change the way we program robots forever.” Ana, who is going on to study engineering at Cambridge University said:
Ana Groom
“The project at Rolls-Royce was very challenging, but it was great having the opportunity to develop an improvement the company will use to become more competitive. “I had to learn about different software and production processes very quickly, which I was able to do thanks to the support of others around me, but now the new robotic programming method has been defined it can be implemented to more areas of the business. It was a great experience working in a production environment and being part of a global organisation, understanding how it functions on a daily basis and being able to add my own ideas to this.”

Psychic Sally aims to amaze with new tour Phil Hewitt @BrightonIndy The nation’s favourite medium is back on the road and better than ever with her most jaw-dropping show yet. In 2015 psychic Sally Morgan aims to amaze sell-out crowds across the land as she displays her incredible abilities.
The popular TV personality comes to Theatre Royal Brighton on Monday, October 5 (7.45pm). After a headlinegrabbing year, Sally is back in front of live audiences in a show that is unique to every venue. Funny, entertaining, sometimes heart-breaking, often controversial, Psychic Sally on the Road 2015 marks her eighth year of touring. Possessed of an incredible ability, the former housewife from the suburbs has become a global hit and has cemented her place as the nation’s most popular psychic with one of the most successful touring shows in the UK. She has performed in front of more than 750,000 people in hundreds of venues. Sally says: “I love being on the road, reaching out to my fans and comforting people about life after death. “Every night when I’m on stage amazing things happen and it’s a privilege to be able to pass on messages of love and comfort to the people I share my gift with.”
Sally is the former medium to Diana, the Princess of Wales, and has a long list of celebrity clients. Her TV show Sally Morgan: On the Road ran for three series and continues to be shown around the world. Sally says she remembers a childhood full of strange goings on and interactions with spirit world. Despite never having advertised her services, she became wealthy London society’s best-kept secret and after building a client list that included international film stars she was noticed by the media. Sally’s debut ITV show, Star Psychic, gave a fresh, contemporary twist to mediumship and in 2008 she devised a series of live shows, which evolved into a sell-out national tour. Sally continues to tour extensively and her new memoir, Call Me Psychic, is out now. For full autumn tour dates, or to find out more about Sally, visit www.sallymorgan.tv. Blues singer back on the road for a sensational ‘60s show Phil Hewitt @BrightonIndy Here’s a good bit of pop trivia. Who was number one on the day England won football’s World Cup in 1966? Take a bow if you answered Chris Farlowe, a performer still on the road, touring with the Sensational 60s Experience for dates including the Theatre Royal Brighton on Tuesday, October 13. “I started in the late ’50s, early ’60s,” Chris recalls. “I had been in a band since I was 13 years old. That was skiffle. Skiffle only lasted about 18 months, but it was good.” And then electric guitars came in – though not for Chris: “I played drums at one point in my life, and I even did a bit of piano. But I took control of the microphone.” He met guitarist Bob Taylor in 1959 and, through Taylor, joined The Thunderbirds, who went on

Stand-up Nish explores the changing political landscape Comedian Nish Kumar is set to tour the UK for the first time with his new show ‘Long Word… Long Word… Blah Blah Blah…I’m So Clever’, which recently won best International Show at the New Zealand Comedy Festival. He is performing at Dome Studio, Brighton, on Saturday, October 24 (7.30pm, doors 7pm). The tour follows in the footsteps of two sold out Soho Theatre runs in London where he recorded his forthcoming DVD, directed by The Pajama Men’s Shenoah Allen. 2014 was a stellar year for Nish with a BBC Radio 4 project incoming, The Now Show, a regular writing spot on the recently re-released (and namesake) show ‘The Kumars’ (Sky One) and the step over to the small screen on The Alternative Comedy Experience curated by Stewart Lee for Comedy Central. In his new show Nish asks: Does comedy need to be politically neutral? Why is comedy leaning to the left and is that even a problem? He examines the changing political landscape and how, as we’ve become more liberal

in our outlook on social issues, we’ve become increasingly conservative economically. He looks at a world in which a black James Bond seems achievable, but at the same time our financial system seems to be based entirely on the game Monopoly. And he asks whether the left is worse at branding its ideas than Islamic fundamentalists. At the end of last year Nish embarked on a tour of India with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow. This year he supported Milton Jones and performed at the New Zealand Comedy festival. He recently finished six weeks as Radio 4

You had to tour the country in your little vans for years and years while you made your name. Now they want to get on X Factor and become famous overnight, but most of them don’t make it, and even if they win, they are forgotten the next year. “Back in the 1960s, you had to do your apprenticeship for a few years first, like The Beatles playing in Hamburg before they really got known.” Joining Chris on the tour are Herman’s Hermits, Steve Ellis, the voice of Love Affair, Union Gapuk and New Amen Corner, hosted by Alan Mosca from Freddie and The Dreamers. Our gala night on October 2 celebrates the overall winners from all the JP Business Awards trophy winners in the south
Proud to play a part in our community SPONSOR’S ANNOUNCEMENT The Martlet Partnership LLP is an independent local chartered accountants’ practice providing accounting, tax, business consultancy, payroll and audit services to the highest professional standards. We are proud to sponsor the business awards to recognise local business talent and to play our part in the business community. We encourage our clients to enter the awards to showcase their businesses in the local community as this brings them many benefits both tangible and intangible. Our clients have won many awards in recent times and we are delighted to help our clients achieve and maintain excellence. Their success is our success. We are members of UK 200 a nationwide network of independent quality assured firms of accountants and solicitors which means we have access to over 650 other partners around the country which enables us to advise on matters beyond the reach of most provincial practices whilst remaining a forward looking, progressive local company. We also have an

international side to our practice, and are fluent in six foreign languages. We are uniquely placed as a smaller firm to advise on business and tax matters for anyone who is thinking of expanding their business into other countries or going to live abroad. We have a wide variety of clients from private individuals to ownermanaged businesses to
international groups and attract an ever-increasing number of new clients every month. The recent radical changes to business taxation in the summer budget mean that expert advice and forward planning is more important than ever before to prevent unnecessary taxation payments We appreciate that every business is different and work hard to understand our clients, their people, their needs and goals and help them to achieve them. The Martlet Partnership LLP, sponsoring the Small Business Award, is one of a number of prestigious backers for this year’s Johnston Press South Business Awards, which celebrate the best of enterprise in the south. The Johnston Press
Business Awards bring together winners from Johnston Press titles’ own award winners. It is NOT possible to enter these awards – the finalists are companies that have already demonstrated their excellence by winning an award associated with one of our newspaper titles during 2014/2015. That means winners from awards run by The News in Portsmouth, the Worthing Herald series, the Chichester Observer series and Littlehampton Gazette, and the Eastbourne Herald are already in line for honours. They will be joined by those from the Sussex Express’s Lewes & Wealden Business Awards, Hastings Observer series’ 1066 Business Awards and West Sussex County Times Business Matters awards.
For more information on the Johnston Press South Business Awards, including details of how businesses can get involved as category sponsors, get in touch with Jeanette Hockley. Call 07841 800401 or send an email to jeanette.hockley@jpress.co.uk

BRIGHTON AND HOVE INDEPENDENT
Owning a listed property Living in a listed property brings certain responsibilities, which put some people off the idea. But, if you live in Brighton and Hove and especially on the coastal strip, you more than likely are living in a listed property in a conservation area. And, if you are buying in the area, it’s quite likely your purchase will be listed Grade 1 or 2. If you are buying a listed home, you obviously can’t just do whatever you want to the place, and for some, this is tantamount to an infringement of their civil liberties. Thankfully, however, there are also plenty of you who will happily forgo your right to rip out Georgian paneling to make way for a 50-inch plasma screen, preferring to regard yourself as a custodian of a piece of our shared architectural heritage. In fact, owning a listed property – particularly the 90% or so that have been awarded Grade II status - is not necessarily all that onerous in terms of the restrictions on what you can and can’t do. The reality is that most properties evolve over time, and the fact that a building is listed does not mean that it can never change. In reality, the relevant authorities’ main concern is that a listed property should be preserved, rather than being allowed to go to rack and ruin - and they are aware that this is likely to involve some concessions to the demands of modern living. You only have to look around at listed properties which have already been modernised, to see that it’s perfectly possible to install every creature comfort, from luxury fitted kitchens to wet rooms. Nevertheless, the fact remains that owners of any listed property must first apply for listed building consent (and planning permission) from their local planning authority, before starting any significant work. If you have a Grade 1 listing, you need to be careful about any alterations at all and check thoroughly as alterations without consent can bite back very painfully! Things requiring consent will almost always include extensions, the replacement of windows or doors, or altering the internal layout. External changes will generally be vetoed, especially if Grade 1, so be extra careful. To be on the safe side, the best thing to do is to take the advice of the conservation officer at your local authority well before you start drawing up any plans which are going to cost you too much. Finally, just a word of advice if you are thinking of buying a listed property: make sure you use a surveyor with good experience of such things – and by the same token, it is also advisable to use a solicitor who is familiar with the sort of anomalies that may crop up during legal enquiries. This generally means to use a local solicitor or surveyor here in Brighton and Hove as they are all used to the vagaries of local leases, freehold and planning issues which need addressing and will ask the right questions on your behalf. Do also quiz agents you deal with to ensure they give you the correct information about listing and consents. They have an obligation to ensure you are correctly advised. We have so many beautiful listed buildings in the City, if that is your wish, you should be able to find one, and it may even have a sea view! Best of luck. Paul Bonett F.N.A.E.A. M.A.R.L.A. Next generation Nissan Juke to be built in Britain ■ Second
generation Juke to strengthen Nissan’s crossover leadership ■ Further £100 million investment in future of UK’s biggest car plant ■ UK chancellor welcomes outlook for 34,000 automotive jobs Five years after inventing the small crossover, Nissan announced a new generation Nissan Juke is set for production in the UK. The estimated £100 million investment is a further endorsement of the quality of output from the Sunderland plant, and a statement of Nissan’s intention to remain the undisputed crossover leader. Following the launch of the second generation Nissan Qashqai in 2013, future Juke allocation points to a secure future for both production lines in Sunderland and the jobs of 34,000 people currently employed by Nissan and its British

suppliers beyond 2020. Nissan Europe chairman, Paul Willcox joined colleagues in Sunderland to celebrate the announcement on September 3. Willcox said: “The Juke’s unique design is one of the reasons Nissan is now the undisputed crossover leader, underpinning five consecutive years of sales growth in Europe. “With the next generation Juke now confirmed for future production, customers can be assured that Nissan is going to remain the benchmark in the crossover segment for many years to come. “This announcement
also gives security to our Sunderland plant beyond 2020, which the team has earned through many years of hard work and their ability to continually raise the bar on quality.” Giving a further boost to the UK car industry, Nissan’s European design team in Paddington, London, and European Engineering Headquarters in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, will be instrumental in the development of this new model – ensuring the European customer needs and taste are incorporated into the second generation Juke. The UK’s chancellor of the exchequer, George Osborne, said: “It’s fantastic news that Nissan will be building their new car here in Sunderland and securing valuable jobs for thousands of working people in the area. “Our ambitious plan to build the Northern

Powerhouse means building on the area’s strengths – including manufacturing - and this announcement is an important sign of Britain being chosen as a global leader in car production.” Now firmly established as the reference point for B-segment crossovers, and Nissan’s second best-selling car in Europe, Juke has been turning heads since its launch in 2010 on Nissan’s Line two in Sunderland. Its success has led to the Sunderland plant achieving 500,000 volumes in each of the past three years, with 80% of output exported to
more than 130 markets. Current models also include the Nissan Note and the allelectric Nissan LEAF, with production of the Infiniti Q30 due to begin later this year. Refreshed in 2014, the Juke is now offered with personalisation options and a host of exciting and innovative technology and styling features. Additionally and also made in Sunderland, the Juke NISMO RS is the performance version of the popular crossover, with years of racetrack heritage taken from the enigmatic NISMO brand marrying the
Juke with impressive power credentials, aggressive styling and optimum handling capabilities. Nissan is now the most substantial carmaker in the history of the UK car industry, with annual output exceeding 500,000 in each of the last three years and currently includes the Nissan Qashqai, Juke, Note and all-electric LEAF. Nissan employs nearly 8,000 people in its UK design, engineering, sales and manufacturing operations, supporting an additional 27,000 jobs in the UK supply chain plus 3,900 in dealerships.

Seagulls look to keep momentum going at Wolves Bradley Stratton @BradStrat Having carried on where they left off from before the international break, Albion will be hoping to keep their impressive start to the season going with a tough trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Chris Hughton’s side have picked back-to-back home wins over Hull City and Rotherham United to take them five points clear at the top of the Championship. It’s a remarkable start that, as has already been said numerous times, very few people would have predicted. The stark contrast with their last league campaign is clearly evident. Albion have picked up 19 points by the middle of September, and last season it took until just before Christmas to reach that amount. Ironically, they reached that tally on their

last visit to Molineux, a 1-1 draw that was Sami Hyypia’s final game in charge for Albion before tendering his resignation. At that time, the former Premier League side were among the challenging pack of sides looking for promotion to the top flight. They have, however, yet to
truly recapture that form yet this season. Kenny Jackett’s side have picked up two wins from their six games so far this season, with three narrow defeats. Their smartest business of the transfer window looks to be keeping hold of Benik Afobe, who was pursued by Norwich over the summer.

The former Arsenal youth player scored 13 goals after signing for Wolves in January and has netted three times so far this campaign. With Adam Le Fondre alongside him up front, they both know where the goal is at this level and will be a threat to Albion’s unbeaten league run this weekend.
Five points clear. How did that happen? While everyone can see we’ve clearly improved it took us until December 20 to get to 19 points last season - it’s not that obvious we’re all aboard the allconquering, Championshipdemolishing, Premier League-bound Bullet Train. Yet.
What we do seem to be doing is simply the basics quite well, with a couple of Kazenga backflips thrown in. And in Tomer Hemed, we appear to have unearthed a genuine sniffer in front of goal. We have a couple of socialmedia gurus on the show this week: Jason Thackeray and Jem Stone. On air at noon on 97.2FM, online at radioreverb.com, or on DAB
Hemed is 13/2 to score opener at Wolves Jack Milner @JJMSports The Seagulls remain 7/1 for the title at BetVictor, behind Middlesbrough (7/4); they are 7/4 to be playing Premier League football next term irrespective of whether it is automatic promotion or via the play-offs. Chris Hughton has done a magnificent job, but all at the Amex will be well aware that the division is a real marathon. That said, this is a brilliant start and they will certainly not lack in confidence against a Wolves side who lost at Bolton last weekend and were not in midweek action. Wolves are, surprisingly perhaps, 11/8 favourites to keep all three points in the Black Country - with the draw 12/5 and Albion 9/4. Tomer Hemed has scored four goals in the last three Championship games and
the Israeli international is 13/2 at BetVictor to score the opening goal at Wolves and 12/5 to continue his rich scoring form at anytime. Wolves have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight competitive games this season - although they
Wolves have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight competitive games this season” have found the back of the net in all bar one of their fixtures. Both teams to score is priced at 9/10 and
that might be the value. I think Chris Hughton’s side may have to settle for a point and a 1-1 draw (11/2 at BetVictor) is the recommendation. There are some other big games in the Championship this weekend and Burnley (11/4) travel to the iPro on Monday for a meeting with a Derby (23/20) side who have gained backto-back wins on the road in the last week and are beginning to look like the title challengers many expected them to be at the start of the campaign.
