Our Refurbishment Project
Our Venues are Coming Back to Life!
The Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre are being transformed into a vibrant, creative and fully accessible destination for everyone to enjoy. Whether you want to see your favourite artist (or be amazed by a new one), relax over a drink or bite to eat, hire the space for a private or business event, develop new artistic work or perform on our stages - these incredible buildings are coming back to life like never before. Despite the many complexities of restoring a heritage building and the challenges faced by the coronavirus pandemic, the refurbishment has progressed and is now in the final phase of development. Over the last year, the Corn Exchange roof has been fully repaired, replacing over 16,000 slate tiles which means no more water leaks! Inside the space, the original timber frame spanning 18 metres wide, has been stripped back and strengthened and interior heritage features have been beautifully crafted to how they would have looked 200 years ago. If you’ve walked along New Road you may have noticed the scaffolding has gone, revealing the beautifully renovated exterior of the 1930s Studio Theatre. We are finalising plans for a new catering partner to take on the lease of the new café/ restaurant on New Road which will offer visitors a place to eat, drink, hang-out and feel the buzz of being in the hub of our building. Keep up to date with the latest project news on our website and via social media.

‘ Naming a seat in the Corn Exchange is, for us, a unique way to celebrate both the fantastic performances we’ve enjoyed here together as well as this phenomenal venue, which is so important to the city.’ Karl & Soheila Jones, seat donors
