We also continue to partner with the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts for our Coffee Concert chamber music series. Our annual event marking International Women’s Day features stand-up from Bridget Christie, a live recording of the cult-hit Guilty Feminist Podcast, a lecture and discussion on ecofeminism with Germaine Greer and our free day of celebrations in partnership with Brighton Women’s Centre and Brighton Museum. International Women's Day
Get involved, get radical, be inspired...
Women for Life on Earth: The Inevitability of Ecofeminism
When Welsh women turned up at the RAF base at Greenham Common in 1981, they were carrying a banner that read ‘Women for Life on Earth’. Theirs was direct action, born of gut reaction, virtually innocent of theoretical framework. Feminists can be found wherever the planet and our fellow earthlings are in trouble. They shepherd stranded cetaceans back into deeper water, stand in front of lorries carrying live animals to slaughter, march and lobby against the threat of fracking. The action they cannot be moved to take on their own behalf, they take on behalf of the planet. If the planet is to survive and human beings continue to inhabit it, this female energy must be unleashed. Australian-born writer, and major voice of the secondwave feminist movement, Germaine Greer, discusses ecofeminism in this special event for International Women’s Day. Her ideas have created controversy ever since her first book, The Female Eunuch (1970) became an international best-seller, making her a household name. Sat 4 Mar, 12pm Concert Hall £10, £8.50 concessions

‘ The most electrifying comedy I’ve yet seen on the Fringe’ ««««« The Guardian The people of the UK have voted to leave the EU, even though no-one had a plan for what would happen if it did. If you didn’t want to leave the EU, or you did, but now don’t, because you haven’t got any of the things you were promised, then this is absolutely the show for you. If you did want to leave the EU, and still do, then you will still find it funny, but for different reasons, as you witness the liberal female comedian’s exasperated and despairing meltdown.

Mexrrissey
Mexico Goes Morrissey
'Nothing the world holds could match the love waiting for me in Mexico City' Morrissey In Mexico, Morrissey has always been more than just a musician. His songs have chimed with a huge audience raised on rancheras and mariachis. Now a band made in Mexico City has reinvented the songs of Morrissey and The Smiths: a brass and string led combo from the smallest village with the biggest bleeding heart. Mexrrissey have toured the UK to sold-out crowds and released their first album, No Manchester (a Mexican slang phrase inspired by The Smiths, meaning 'Are You Kidding Me?'), to critical acclaim. Come and see what happens when songs born on the streets of Manchester change their haircut and go to live in Mexico under an assumed name.

But with perpetually high rates of re-offending and increasing costs has the time come to ask more radical questions around the appropriateness of imprisonment

The Times
This is a show about optimism and hopefulness and about looking for people and things to look up to. I’m 34, I wanted to have kids by now, and be in love, and have a country that didn’t vote with the far right parties to march us all off a cliff. And be able to do all the awesome stuff that activists do, that I can’t do, too. I thought we would have won by now. And I wanted to be taller and better looking. Following a sell-out run in London and transfer to New York, the star of BBC Radio 4's Romance and Adventure, presenter of Short Cuts and three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, Josie Long tours her eighth solo stand-up show nationwide.
